Printer drivers will not delete

I recently upgraded to Windows 8 on a brand new computer. My faithful laserjet 2100 would not work. However, the printer (several copies of it) show up in MS Word, Excel and other programs when I go to print. I replaced the printer with an HP LaserJet
Pro 400 MFP and now I'm getting copies of this printer also when I try to print.
The dilemma is that the laserjet 2100 (several copies of it) are in the print queue when I try to print a document even after I removed the drivers from the system. How do I get rid of these copies?

Marymajik,
It sounds like while you’ve removed the drivers for your old LaserJet 2100, the computer thinks that printer still exists and is defaulting to a generic driver.
The good news is, it’s easy to remove any old printers and any copies that might exist by following these steps:
Go into Devices and Printers by swiping in from the right edge of the screen and tap
Search.  (If using a mouse, point your mouse to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and click
Search.)  Type in “Devices and Printers”.
Once the window comes up, you’ll see your printer(s) and any copies.
Right-click on any of the ones you want to remove and select Remove Device.
Continue following step 2 until you’ve removed your old printer, all of its copies and any copies you might see for your new printer
Right-click your new printer and select Set as default printer.
I hope this helps!

  • Print job will not delete

A print job will not delete from my computer despite several restarts of both the computer and printer.

    Hi,
From the Desktop, hold down the Windows key and press R.  Into the Run window, type services.msc and hit enter.
Browse down to the print spooler service, right click it and select Properties then click on the Stop button.
Now browse to C:\Windows\System32\Spool\PRINTERS and delete the job inside this folder - You may need to click a prompt to gain the appropriate authority to open the PRINTERS folder.
Restart the computer and you should find the document has been removed.

  • Printer drivers will not download

I have an HP Pavilion dv6 2113 sa laptop running W7 Premium 64 bit & a HP Photosmart Premium c309g-m all in one printer. They are connected by a USB cable. (too many problems running a wireless system).
I can not reload the printer drivers.
Printer function always runs perfectly but very occassionally I use the scanner & that nearly always causes problems. Tried to scan a document but could not do it by selecting 'Computer' on printer window so used a memory stick but it saved the letter as a JPEG file not a PDF. Strange! I could not change the setting to PDF. Then got a message telling me that the printer drivers were not functioning. Went online, followed good advice to uninstall the printer software & reinstall. I have tried this about 3 times using my CD (V14.1) & 3 times downloading the software (v14.1) from HP website but it always gets stuck at the last section. The NEXT box on the CONNECT YOUR DEVICE NOW is always greyed out so I can not complete the process.
After uninstalling the software the printer does not appear in the START>DEVICES & PRINTERS. After installing it as far as it will go,  I can see or can add my printer in this area. In fact, the last time I tried, 2 printer descriptions were there: c309g-m & c309g-m BT.  Not sure what the BT refers to.
The loss of printer drivers has happened several times since I bought it & is always problamatic trying to sort it out, but this time it will just not respond. Any ideas would be most welcome. PS I am reasonably savvy with my computer but not that technical so please keep replies simple. Thank you.

Update... After I posted the above question, I read here in another thread about somebody else having this problem and being instructed by a Brother support person to do a hard reboot of the computer right after the message appears from Apple that it "Can't install the software for [insert name of printer] because it is not currently available on the Software Update server."
I just tried this with the HP printer and, lo and behold, the printer appeared as installed after the reboot. I have also tested the printer and the Macbook does, indeed, print to it.  I have no idea why this trick worked, but I thought I should pass it on to others.  Now, I will try the same trick with the Brother printer and, hopefully, it will also install. Since the Brother is a combination printer/ fax/ scanner we shall see if the hard boot trick gets all of these features to work equally.
But I still don't understand why Apple itself is not posting this fix as a temporary solution to what obviously is a bug in Mountain Lion.  Customers should not have to be relegated to looking on Apple Community boards like this to resolve software problems that Apple created and should be acknowledging it is aware of, is working on resolving and, in the meantime, has a workaround to suggest.

  • HP Deskjet 3920 advanced printer drivers will not install on my laptop

I can't share HP Deskjet 3920 with Win 7 64 bit cause can't install advanced printer drivers for x64 on Win XP, error message like: "need some drivers from Windows XP CD-ROM" - and can't find it there (need for sRGB.ICM file).
If I manually point this file, the install process loops endlessly.

    Hi Yaugen,
Try these instructions.  The main task is to get Windows XP and Win7 to share resources.
Step one: Windows 7 Homegroup must be setup
Printer sharing must be setup in the Homegroup settings, if one of the computers in the network is using Windows 7.
    1. Click Start
    2. Click Control Panel
    3. In the upper right corner ensure that View by has Large icons or Small icons selected.
    4. Click Network and Sharing Center.
5. Click Choose homegroup and sharing options
    6. If the Homegroup is not setup, you need to set up your homegroup before continuing.
Step two: Set the Workgroup on each computer
Each computer on the network must be set to the same Workgroup.  The workgroup name needs to be changed from the default to a new name.
    Windows XP:
    1. Click Start.
    2. Right click Computer and then left click Properties.
    3. The default Workgroup is WORKGROUP.
    4. The name of the Workgroup should be changed from the default.
    5. In System Properties, click the Computer Name tab.
    6. Click the Change button.
    7. Enter the Workgroup name that is used by your entire network.  If you are changing the Workgroup name, use the same name used in Windows 7.
    8. Click OK.
    9. You must restart your computer for the change to take effect.
    Windows 7:
    1. Click Start.
    2. Right click Computer and then left click Properties.
    3. The Workgroup is listed in System Properties.
    4. The default Workgroup is WORKGROUP.
    5. The name of the Workgroup should be changed from the default.
    6. Change your Workgroup in Windows 7 by clicking Change settings.
    7. Click the Change button.
    8. Enter a new Workgroup name that will be used by your entire network.
    9. Click OK.
    10. You must restart your computer for the change to take effect.
Step three: Setup a share account on each computer in the network
Create a common share account on each of the computers, including the computer that is sharing the printer to the rest of the network.  This share account must have the same name and password on each computer.
If you decide to use an existing account that appears on each computer all ready, this existing account must be password protected. If you do not want to password protect your default login, create a new share login as described in the following steps.
     Windows XP
    1. Click Start
    2. Click Control Panel
    3. Click User Accounts
    4. Click Create a new account.
    5. Enter the same user account name created as the share account on the Windows 7 computer.
    6. Click Next.
    7. Under “Pick an account type”, select ‘Computer Administrator’.
Note: In Windows XP you must select Computer Administrator in order setup a printer.
    8. After you new account is created, select it under ‘pick an account to change’.
    9. Click Create a password
    10. Enter the same password used when creating the share account on the Windows 7 computer, following the directions on the screen.
    11. Click Create Password button.
    12. Log off your current user account and log into the new share account to activate it.
    13. Once the computer is ready after logging into the share account, you can log off the share account and back into your regular user account.
    Windows 7
    1. Click Start
    2. Click Control Panel
    3. In the upper right corner ensure that View by has Large icons or Small icons selected.
    4. Click User Accounts
    5. Click Manage another account
    6. Click Create a new account
    7. Select Standard User
Note:  The account created should be created with the lowest security setting necessary.  Creating the share account as an administrator is discouraged.
    8. Enter a new user account name.  Use a name that is easy to remember as the account used for sharing resources across your network.  For example: ‘ShareAccount’
    9. After your new account is created, select it under “Choose the account you would like to change”.
    10. Click Create a Password
    11. Enter a new password, following the directions on the screen.
    12. Click Create Password button.
    13. Close any remaining opened windows, making a note of the new account name and password as you will need to create identical accounts and passwords on the other computers on your network.
    14. Log off your current user account and log into the new share account to activate it.
    15. Once the computer is ready after logging into the share account, you can log off the share account and back into your regular user account.
Step Four: Share the printer to the network
The computer that has the printer attached and installed by USB must have the printer shared to the network.
    Windows XP
    1. Open the printers and faxes folder in Windows XP.
Note: A hand symbol under the icon for the printer indicates it is already shared to the network.
    2. Right click on the printer to be shared to the network.
    3. Left click on Sharing.
    4. Click “If you understand the security risks but want to share printers without running the wizard, click here”.
    5. Select “Just enable printer sharing”.
    6. Click OK.
    7. Select “Share this printer”.
    8. If the Share name is acceptable, click OK.
    9. If you want to change the Share name, enter a new name. Click OK.
Note: If the Share name entered is longer than 8 characters, you will get a warning that the printer will not be accessible from MS-Dos computers.
Step five: Install the appropriate software for your printer
Install the printer software on the other computers on the network that will need to access the shared printer.  Install the correct driver for the printer model for each computer on the network. Not all printers will need to have a driver installed, only newer printers.
    1. Check for available drivers – visit the HP website and download available drivers.
Note: Even if you have an install CD for your older HP product, there may be an updated driver for your printer.
    2. Launch the driver setup by double-clicking on the downloaded driver.
    3. If the driver install process requires you to attach the printer USB cable to continue, click cancel instead.  This will roll back the install, but it will leave the driver files installed.
    4. Select the USB connection type. Look for the checkbox labeled “Connect later – Do not connect to the printer now.  I will connect it later”.
Note: You might have to select USB connection type before the checkbox is visible.
    5. Complete the install without attaching the USB cable.
    6. After the software is installed, delete any icons created on the desktop.  They will not be linked to the shared printer and will only result in errors if used.
Step six: Install the shared printer.
Note: Computers that are not sharing a resource to the network may not show up by name when viewing the entire network.
    Windows 7
    1. Click Start.
    2. Click on Computer.
    3. In the lower left pane, click on Network.
    4. Double click on the computer that is sharing the printer.
    5. Enter the name of your share account as the “User name”.
    6. Enter the same password created for the share account.
    7. Check the box labeled Remember my credentials.
    8. Click OK.
    9. Right click on the printer, left click Open.
    10. Windows will find the previously loaded driver for the printer and complete the install.

  • Print job will not delete, which halts other print jobs

Maddening issue with some print jobs sticking in print que, then failing to delete when attempting to clear que, which halts any print jobs that follow. Que shows "deleting" but in reality it does not delete. I have tried to go into spooler system and it seems to work when I hit "Stop" then "Start," but do NOT want to have to do this every time. thx for any help.

On order to clear the Spool, the easiest way is to turn off your printer,
Reboot your PC and then cancel all the documents from the Printers screen.
After the documents has been removed, turn the printer back on.
As the issue ocours more often, please let me know your printer model, how it is connected to your PC and your operating system version, it will help to better understand any possible cause.

I have upgraded my iMac to Yosemite but now my two Canon Printers no longer print from Photoshop CS6. I have upgraded the drivers. All other applications including Lightroom are fine. I am receiving an error message as follows:"There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents." How can I get the OS to return a list of printers to Photoshop when Photoshop requests a list.

Have you printed to this printer from 10.10 before?  If so, check your connections.

  • What other hp print drivers will work with the officejet pro 8600

I have an Officejet Pro 8600 and like many others here, I am having a problem printing a custom size envelope (6x9). I did find that I can use the drivers for a deskjet 450 and setup  my 8600 using those drivers. However, the 450 6x9 does not have a portait option in the layout.
My question is, what other hp print drivers will work in the 8600? I'm hoping one will have a 6x9 portrait layout?

    Cheetah12 wrote:
    Hello wingcheck,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're receiving a problem printing a custom envelope size (6x9). You did state that you installed a Deskjet 450, but it doesn't come with a portrait option. I will do my best to assist you!
First,  I need to find out your operating system on your computer? Windows or Mac?
If you have a Windows computer and using this Deskjet 450 driver, have you checked Devices and Printers on your computer to see if you have this portrait option:
    1) Right click on the Deskjet 450, then click on Printer Preferences
    2) Very top you should see a tab called "Finishing" and look for Orientation
    3) You should see portrait, landscape, rotate by 180 degrees or mirror image.
    4) Let me know if you don't have this option on this post
If not, then I would recommend installing a Deskjet 9800 to see if you have this option. Please follow this HP document on Installing an Alternate Print Driver in Windows 7 for a USB Cable Connection. When setting up this custom size, change the paper type to "Other Specialty Media". Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great night!
Hi Cheetah .... I don't have access to my printer at the moment due to travel, but here's what I have right now. My operating system is Windows 7 64. That's not much, but it is a start. I will have the additional information for you in a day or so. Something else I discovered in the user guide, which I didn't know, is that each tray will only handle specific media. So, when I print envelopes, I will have to use Tray 1 in order to do so.
Now I do have another question for you. Can I have installed, 2 different sets of print drivers at the same time without it causing a conflict? I'm assuming the diffenent driver will simply show up as a different printer in the listed printers, right?? Any way, thanks for your quick response, and upon arriving home, I will follow your previous suggestions. I will also keep you posted as to my success or failure.
    Thanks
    Paul

  • There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents.

I've never had this problem before. It only affects Photoshop CS6 and CS5 that I have installed. I'm running MAC OS 10.9.5
I have three printers and HP and two Epsons, and I get this dialogue when trying to print from Photoshop CS6 or CS5.
There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents.
Other applications print fine on all three printers.  I tried deleting the Photoshop Prefs numerous times without results.
Does anyone have an answer for this?
    Thanks.

Using Photoshop CS6 and after printing approx. 10 cards on an Epson R3000 printer the program gives me a dialog box saying "There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents."  Even after closing and reopening the program, the print command is greyed out so I cannot select any printer. This also happens with a Brother laser printer. Both printers will produce a test page out side of the Adobe product. Help!

I cannot get any help either.  I get the message "There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents."  I have reinstalled all drivers, powered off/on all printers (2 of them - a Brother HL - 4040cn and an Epson Stylus Pro 7890 - which all worked fine until this morning).  There appears to be no path to a solution.  I have read all the forums and tried about 20 different suggestions all to no avail.  Reboots, changing cables, reinstalling printers and drivers and Photoshop CS6 - ALL TO NO AVAIL.  On a macbook pro retina with 10.10.3.  This issue is out there and some get solutions - but not all - that's my crowd...the not all crowd.  I have yet to be able to print from CS6 any more.  This is a show stopper and my patience is wearing thin.  And I'm tired of stupid questions like "is your printer powered on?" give me a break.  This appears to be an adobe photoshop cs6 problem - as I can print from every other application.  Anyone have any ideas?  Adobe should have something?... • Envelope in print queue will not print.

Envelope on print queue will not print.  other documents print ok.
I tried "RESTART" of the document to no avail.
problem started after I ran the utility to clean the rollers because envelope would not feed.  In the past this has worked fine.
I can print regular documents, just not envelopes.
Tried, power down/power up.  Tried reboot.
    Windows XP
    2575 photosmart all-in-one

Problem solved. I deleted the printer and reinstalled a few times and it now works.

Trash will not delete from trash folder! What can cause this effect?

u can actually force it to delete, oviously i assume you dont have the application or data etc open neware else?
try restarting your computer, go into finder close all your open applications etc, servers, **** even clear your data in your web browser, do a disk utility check and verify your drives and repair em if nessicary.
as chamar suggested look at http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/trash.html
i had the same problem before but with a good 5-10 minutes of googling i was able to solve it..
    best of luck

  • There are 26 songs on my iphone that no matter what I do will not delete or play, they play on my computer but on my phone they wont go away, i tried swiping to delete them and unchecking them but they are still there. Any advice?

There are songs on my iphone 4 that will no play or delete. They play and work on itunes on my computer but they will not play on my phone and I am trying to delete them. I deleted all the songs, but these will not delete. Any help?

They are not on the iphone in the first place.  It is just a setting that allows you to see the songs that are available in icloud, but not on your iphone.  If you turn the setting to off, then you no longer see the songs that are in icloud, but NOT on your iphone.

    Please help!
My Itunes says there is a corrupt file and will not open (IMac 2010). I couldn't fix it by reinstalling ITunes so I moved ITunes to trash. It will not delete from my trash as it is saying "Japanese.lproj" is in use. I have never opened or used "Japanese.lproj". I can't delete ITunes or open ITunes to close the Japanese.lproj, what do I do? Thank you for any help you can provide..

It will not delete from my trash as it is saying "Japanese.lproj" is in use. I have never opened or used "Japanese.lproj".
Interesting. This sort of thing is more common on Windows systems. Taken at face value, one of the iTunes program files (one of the Japanese language resources) is damaged.
I'd try running your Disk Utility over your startup disk. Does it find/repair any damage? If so can you empty your trash and reinstall your iTunes successfully now?
