Printer fail with Snow Leopard 10.6.1

I have two GCC Elite printers (XL 20/600 & XL 12/600) connected on our office network. Upgraded to Snow Leopard, got them to print by using LPD process but now find that printing fails intermittently if there are a number of files in the queue.
We are design studio, using Adobe CS4. The files are no bigger or detailed than when we were on Leopard.
Any ideas?

Hi TDCP - welcome to the forums.
Printer drivers have taken a hit with SL.
Unless you know for certain that your current drivers are fully compatible with SL, you may need to look for updates in that regard. Same goes for your Adobe products.

Airport express printing problem with Snow Leopard

I am no longer able to print to my shared printer after upgrading to Snow Leopard. I get a message that starts with "communication failure the computer is no longer able to communicate with your printer". My network consists of a dual-band Airport extreme and an Airport Express. The dual-band Airport Extreme creates the network and is connected to the internet. The printer (HP LaserJet 1012) is connected to the AirPort Express. The AirPort express joins the dual-band Airport extreme network for the sole purpose of turning the HP LaserJet 1012 into a shared wireless printer. Everything was working fine before the upgrade to Snow Leopard. When I connect the printer directly to my MAC via USB, it prints fine. I can "see" the printer fine through bonjour when it is connected to the AirPort express, but I get a failure whenever I try to print to it. I have tried plugging and unplugging the device. I have effectively redownloaded the print-driver by connecting the printer directly to my MAC. It sounds like a Snow Leopard bug. Any suggestions for a work-around? Thanks.

I upgraded to Snow Leopard and had difficulties connecting to my HP Photosmart 7150 printer through Airport Express. Apple setup found a 3rd party printer driver by Gutenprint, which I downloaded and the printer works. But like it did under Leopard. Under the 10.5 OS, a print command would send a wake up signal to the HP, which automatically turned off after a period of idleness, and then print. Under 10.6, there is no wake up and I need to manually activate the printer. I went to the HP web site hoping to find a "new" driver for 10.6 and HP has posted a message saying it does not and will not be providing print driver for 10.6. It then has a long list of HP devices that cannot or will not print with Snow Leopard. So those with no-printing issues should check your model against the HP driver listing. I believe this is a neat way for HP to force Mac users who upgrade or install 10.6 to buy a new printer for which HP has a 10.6 driver. At least I can print and the only inconvenience that I can see if the lack of that wake up signal. My wife says it won't hurt me if I have to get up and walk to the room with the printer to turn it on!

My cannon printer worked with snow leopard but does not work with Lion

My Mf 4350d printer does not work with lion Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2., it worked with Snow leopard no problem. I am a novice with apple so can you tell me how to do any changes carefully.

A Temporary solution to printing problem with snow leopard

I have an HP Color laserjet 3600 that wouldn't print after installing Snow Leopard. Not only that, but I couldn't print from another mac that had 10.5 on it.
By trial and error, we discovered that if you reset airport by disconnecting and reconnecting the power cable then the printer works.
One word of caution. If you reset airport while in 10.6 - then the machine in 10.6 will print. If you then try to print using a machine with 10.5 - it may not print until you again reset airport.

As strange as it may seem, the error can be caused by the driver. The Canon driver for your model has not been designed to work with mixed networks. It will only work with a direct USB connection to the Mac. When connected to the Dlink router, the driver cannot communicate correctly with the printer and will cause all sorts of errors. Therefore you need to use a CUPS based driver, such as those provided by Gutenprint.
So, I would add the printer queue again, using the same configuration that Windows uses (IP - 192.168.1.3/lp1) but for the Print Using menu, type 3000 and select the entry showing 'Canon PIXMA iP3000 - Gutenprint'.

I9900 printing options with snow leopard

I have recently (3 weeks ago) purchased an imac 27" with snow leopard, I have an i9900 canon printer. When I add the printer and download the most recent driver per canon. I have no options (print quality, media type...nothing) the only option I have is page attributes. This is with any program word, CS4 etc.

If someone could explain to me how to delete a printer correctly or do I go to the preferences and highlight the i9900 and click - sign. Then explain the proper procedure to connect and install driver maybe I can try that and see if it works. I would greatly appreciate the help. I did go to the canon website and download the most up to date driver as per canons directions.

Printer problems with snow leopard

I updated to 10.6 and was fine with it until i tried printing on my HP laserjet P1006 not only was it not recognized, i even downloaded the driver from HP to no avail!!!! Next time i won't be so hasty to rush and upgrade my macbook. I should have know better because i never upgrade my Itunes because you lose the previous settings!! i am kicking myself right now!!!:(

Andrew, you seem to know what's going on around here. Have you any solution for the fact that my HP psc 1355 all in one printer will not print now I have upgraded to Snow Leopard? I see from all these posts that very few printers seem to have been catered for by this upgrade.
The HP site doesn't even mention this printer but it is only 3 years old at the most. I tried uninstalling it and downloading Rosetta before reinstalling but for some reason Rosetta would not download! I am now without a printer and getting preeettty mad!

Network printing problem with Snow Leopard

Hi everybody,
I am setting up a home network, mostly wired, with XP desktop and Macbook Pro (SL) and so far everything is OK except for the printer.
It’s a Canon Pixma IP3000 plugged over USB on a D-link router (604UP) configured as a switch.
* This printer works over the network with any XP computer. All I need is the router IP (192.168.1.3) and the queue name (lp1);
* This printer works over the network with the Macbook on virtual OS (XP on Parallels desktop), same parameters as above;
* This printer works with the Macbook on Snow Leopard when connected over USB (with the latest drivers from Apple BTW);
* This printer doesn’t work over network with the Macbook on Snow Leopard.
I have already tried several fixes and none worked so far. In the “Add printer windows”:
* The default tab shows nothing;
* The Windows tab shows my workgroup and the XP computers and that’s it;
* A manual configuration with the IP tab, using IP “192.168.1.3” and “lp1” for queue stops when I select the printer driver : a small windows pops up a tenth of second and I am brought back to the “select the printer software” list;
* A manual configuration with the Advanced tab using the address smb://192.168.1.3/ip3000 brings back a “NTSTATUS_ACCESSDENIED” error, that’s the best I got right now. I have tried several variant with different printer name or adding the workgroup name in the address, to no effect.
As the printer is connected to a router and not another computer, I don’t have any username or password. Or have I ?
Or it could be something very stupid as I am newb to networking and Mac OS X. Anyway I am lost and I thank you in advance.

HP 7210 cannot print wirelessly with Snow Leopard

After updating to Snow Leopard on my sons Mac Laptop his HP 7210 will no longer print wirelessly via airport extreme.
I am able to print with the printer directly hooked up to my computer with USB.
I reinstalled the printer driver, same results.
Then I d/l the drivers from Apple and still the same results.
Airport shows the printer as being hooked up.
Whenever I try to print wirelessly airport says it cannot find the printer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

How do you have the Officejet 7210 hooked up wirelessly? Is it plugged into the USB port on your Airport Extreme (which I assume is the case based on your comments, but I'm not 100% sure)? We have been receiving many complaints about this setup not working (as have other vendors) but I don't have a good answer why yet or how to work around it.
Out of curiosity, have you tried creating the print queue using the IP address of your Airport instead of using Bonjour?
Just trying to nail things down.

Printer compatible with Snow Leopard?

I think my 5 year old Canon iP4000R workhorse printer may have died... I may try to get it repaired; but wondering if there are any of you out there who can recommend another printer? IT MUST HAVE WIRED INTERNET CONNECTION. I like the 2 side printing and the CD/DVD printer - and the quality and build of Canon-- but it must work with Mac OS X 10.6.x
I've seen the PIXMA MP640 and the MP990 both seem to have internet cable connectivity (and WiFi and the other things) - they seem to be copiers / scanners which is OK but not necessary - I have a fine copier and scanner already. But OK if no printer exists with internet... I guess I could consider a color Laser- they must all work with Mac OS X 10.6.x???
Thanks for any input here - of course the key is compatibility with Mac - that's why I am posting here-- but any experiences with Canon or other printers - been 5 years since I've looked and in a bit of a jam now - glad my 13 years old Apple LaserWriter 12/640 PS is still doing fine!

I use an MP980 at work and the photo printing (I use a copier for document printing), scanning and CD/DVD printing have all been good on 10.6. I have it connected via wireless to a NetGear access point and have had little trouble with its operation. I would therefore expect the MP990 to work in very much the same way.
I was also looking at replacing my iP5200R at home, which connects to my Airport Extreme via wireless, and had a look at the iP4700, thinking it was a very similar looking model. However this printer does not offer any sort of networking - it's USB only. And checking further it appears that all the current models of iP only have USB. If you want network you have to look at the AIO MP or MX series.

External HD Boot fails with Snow Leopard

When I try to boot from an external HD with 10.6 installed I get a kernel panic "unable to find a driver for this platform". My internal drive has 10.7 installed. Any suggestions as to how to resolve the issue?
Here's a bit of background. I have some files on my computer that are produced by applications no longer supported on the Mac. They worked fine under Rosetta with 10.6 but when I upgraded to 10.7 and Rosetta was dropped, so did my ability to access the files. I'm really keen to be able to at least open the files and see if I can export them to useful format, or even print them.
Today I purchased an external 1TB HD in the hope that this would solve my problem. I intended to boot up using Snow Leaopard. I installed it using the DVD purchased as part of the Mac Boxed Set a while back. There are two partitions on the HD, a 50GB section with 10.6 on it and a 950GB which is blank.
When the installation was complete the Mac automatically rebooted. Unfortunately it panicked midway through the restart. I've tried re-initialising the drive and checking the firmware. Everything seems ok there. I'm not sure what to do next.

Well, the clone didn't work. I copied the following files/folders to the external as advised by CCC:

Multifunction Printer issues with Snow Leopard

Dear Apple members,
I have found out something worth sharing. I believe that since Apple has updated to 10.6.8 the socket file has a few bugs which means that multifunction printers stop working unless you reset the printing system, or restart the MAC itself.
I have a HP Photosmart C7280 printer which has now stopped working since the upgrade - I have to reboot my machine everytime I need to print.
Apple, please sort this out as people are reverting to older files which cannot be good - especially with the pending release of Mac OS Lion.

If you want to report this issue to Apple's engineering, send a bug report or an enhancement request via its Bug Reporter system. To do this, register as an Apple Developer—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report or enhancement request. You'll get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.

HP Color Laserjet 3600 with Snow Leopard

I know this model of printer (HP3600n) does not have a good reputation. But I have to deal with that because our school bought them before I started working there. The printers had been working 70% well with Leopard/Tiger last year. This year we upgraded our machines to Snow Leopard and now they only work 30%. In Leopard I used to add the printer through the "More Printer". With Snow Leopard I don't have "More Printer" option any more, so I added the printer though IP (LPD).
The problem:
1. When I print the 1st document, it prints sometimes. But, it still sits in the queue so the 2nd document could not print. I have to log in as administrator to use the "cancel -a -" command to clear the queue before I can print the 2nd document. It's so frustrate.
2. Sometimes the document seems to print out, but when you go pick up the print out, it's not there. I have to power off the printer and power it back on and then the print comes out.
Any clue?

It all depends on the driver files used by the LJ3600. If it uses only a PPD, then you could simply copy the PPD to the /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources folder for the Mac's that don't have the driver already installed.
If there are other files required by the PPD, such as plugins and filters, these are probably located in /Library/Printers/HP. So you could also copy this folder with the PPD to the other Mac's to reduce your setup time.

Using Epson Workforce 40 with Snow Leopard and an AirPort Extreme

Hi. Long night working on this but I figured something out, that might help others out there in the same/similar situation.
I have an Epson Workforce 40, and an AirPort Extreme. I had previously set up the EPWF40 (Epson WorkForce 40) before I had installed Snow Leopard. After installing Snow Leopard, the printer would not work and would not be recognized by my MBP 15". The document would just hang and I would have to force quit the printer or delete the document.
Bullet points on how I made it work:
- the most important thing is to have the printer recognized by the router and have an IP address installed and registered first, then you can install the Epson Mac EasyPrint software and "find" the printer over your wireless network
- Goto:

and download the Epson EasyPrint v3.10 file called: "epson12433.dmg"
- Unfortunately, Epson does not make software to "install" the printer to the router for Snow Leopard
- I re-installed the printer to the router using my wife's HP laptop and the original CD that came with the EPWF40.
- Follow the instructions on the CD for the install for "First Time" setting up the printer.
- After following the original instructions from the CD on her PC, the router assigned a new IP address to the printer, and the printer was "connected" to the router wirelessly
- Then, on my MBP running Snow Leopard, I ran the dmg file downloaded earlier from the Epson website.
- After running, go to the printer/fax preferences, click the "+" sign and add a new printer.
- As long as you are connected wirelessly to the router, under default, your mac should "find" the Epson printer. It is called something like "EPSON5A2EAA". There should be at least one, if not two options.
- One of the options should be "EPSON5A2EAA Bonjour" and the other "EPSON5A2EAA IP". Click on one, install it, and then go back and click on the other and install it (just to be sure).
- You will not be able to use the standalone Epson Apps installed from the DMG, however, the printer preferences for the epson, will be available through the printer preference boxes when you go through the system preferences.
It didn't make any sense at first for me either. Once I understood that:
- you can't install the printer from a Mac to your router
- after the printer is installed and linked with your router, your Mac can find it and use it
...I was able to complete the installation and have a fully functional wireless network printer.

Actually, you have.
Rosetta was incorporated into both Tiger and Leopard. But it was invisible, of course. Snow Leopard is the first OS that offers the choice of whether to install it or not.
Any suggestions on how I find the recent article or make my printer work with Snow Leopard?
Don't know about the "recent article", but you can install Rosetta by inserting your Snow Leopard DVD and clicking on the Optional Installs package. When the configuration choice window comes up, just check Rosetta alone and carry on.

Printing Password NO LONGER WORKS with Snow Leopard!

Ive searched this forum and most people have the opposite problem I do. They want to disable password requests when printing, but I want them!
With Leopard, I was able to set up our networked color printer on every mac and students who logged in with their Active Directory accounts would then try to print but fail because they weren't part of the user group that were allowed to print to our color printer. When the password screen showed up, all I had to do was type in my account name and password, and the student's work would print. This was perfect for our lab set-up so we could supervise printing.
However, with Snow Leopard, this feature no longer works. The password box pops up but it doesnt matter what name/password is inputted, anything will print. By anyone. Yikes. My IT is not too happy and Im trying to find a way to fix this.
I saw Kiraly's tip on using Server Admin tools but it didnt work for us. Error 14071 something.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It could be falling back to Kerberos authentication, where passwords aren't needed every time. I'd suggest telling your IT people to disable kerberos on the Windows Server. If Windows is allowing users to access services with the wrong username and password, then that bug needs to be sent to Windows as a security vulnerability.
Otherwise, if they narrow it down to a problem on the Mac side, tell them to submit a bug to Apple.

Why won't Lexmark T430 printer with Snow Leopard?

Lexmark T430 will not printer with Snow Leopard. Error Message: “The printer software was installed incorrectly. Please reinstall the printer’s software or contact the manufacturer for assistance.”
The printer is connected via Ethernet from an iMac; I have an airport wireless network. Oddly, I can print wirelessly from my MacBook Pro, but not from my desktop iMac. Both computers were upgraded to Snow Leopard at the same time, but only the iMac refuses to print.
Tried:
-Reset printing system
-Downloaded Lexmark drivers and reinstalled them
-Connected printer directly to iMac instead of through the Ethernet switch
-Repaired disk permissions
When ‘adding printer’ the Lexmark is recognized and configured, but it only results in the same tired error message.
Suggestions will be appreciated.

A follow up on my previous report.
I installed 10.6 on an external USB drive and booted my iMac from there. Result: was able to print successfully to the T430, both via Ethernet and via USB cables. Previously, I also tried to print from the iMac (booted from the internal drive) via USB and that failed; although, as I said, I was able to print to a Canon printer. I conclude that there must be some conflict between the Lexmark drivers and something on my internal iMac hard drive.
