Printer friendly version of a page
Is there a way to display/print a printer friendly version of a page (without all the graphics, etc.)?
Any ideas?
bob
Bob:
Duplicate the page in iWeb but don't include it in the navbar, remove everything but what you want on it to print, name it "printpage" and publish. Go to your site and enter the URL: http://web.me.com/YourMMe_Account_Name/SiteName/printpage.html. Check to see that it is what you want.
Open the site in iWeb and on the original page add a hyperlink titled "Printer Friendly Page" or something like that, select the text and use the Inspector/Link/Link pane to create a link to that printpage url as an external page and set it to open in a new window.
To make the site more printer friendly set the page and browser background to white and remove any items that don't need to be printed. Also make sure any text is in a Web Safe Font and there's no drop shadow or other enhancement that would convert the text box to an image.

Opening a saved printer friendly version of a web page (PDF) opens a print dialog.
On the web I asked to view a printer friendly version of the page which opened a PDF which I saved. When I attempt to open the saved PDF it automatically brings up the print dialog. If I cancel the print it opens in Adobe Reader. What can I do to open the file without the print dialog popping up
Hi Stanley Trela,
If you are on Windows, open up your application preferences, then go to the "Security (Enhanced)" category and deselect "Protected View". If you are on a Mac, unfortunately, the only workaround is to "print as image" - you can select that after clicking on the "Advanced" button on the print dialog. -
I am running XP SP2 fully patched. I recently upgraded to 3.6.3 and since then, clicking on an icon that normally would open another windows (for example, a printer-friendly version of the current web page), nothing happens. In these situations, I have been forced to go to IE or Crome in order to accomplish what I need to do. Very frustrating. Also clicking in the slider area has no effect. "Page Up" and "Page Down" keys work. Holding down left mouse button on slider works. Also very frustrating. Can someone help

With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:

I am currently designing a site where each page needs a
printer friendly version. I thought about creating all the pages in
a simple format using CSS and then linking a button from the
complex page to the simple page.
However, I have appeared on this forum before and have been
encouraged to look at this article (I don't expect you busy people
to read it!)

The article sets a CSS document for the printer friendly
versions. However, when I put a button into my non-printer friendly
version (HTML) how do I make it create a new document with the new
CSS rules? Would I have to use a CSS swapper?
Thanks in advance. No buttons are needed.
If you setup you page and CSS documents correctly, when a
user chooses Print
from their browser's menu, they'll get the print friendly
version.

JSP for Printer Friendly Version - urgent help
Hi all,
I have a JSP web application to collect student's homework. It needs to render the webpage to a printer friendly version with custom headings for easy print out by the teachers. The different submission should be printed out on seperate pages, but since the length of each homework is different, I cannot find a better way to reach the goal. Does any one have any ideas about this?
Any input would be highly appreciated!
Thanks.Yes, it's such a shame. If it hadn't been an urgent question there might have been some point in my answering it. Obviously too late now though...

I can't print printer friendly version on Ancestry.ca whereas Internet Explorer can.
I have a family tree on ancestry.ca that can be printed on using a printer friendly version. I have used Firefox in the past with no problem printing, but recently when I tried to print, it would only print the first page. I went to print preview and it would only show the first page. All the rest were blank except for the headers and ancestry logo. When I emailed them with the problem, they suggested that either the web browser I was using or my antivirus program was the problem because they went into my account and everything seemed to be working properly. I tried Internet Explorer and everything worked fine. No problems printing. Fire Fox is my default browser and I prefer to use it but something has changed recently. I don't recall changing any settings so perhaps you could tell me what the problem is.
Hi Bigggtommy, you wrote:
<blockquote>When I click print (top left) it says "an error occurred while printing"
</blockquote>
Do you mean you can't even call up the Print dialog from the File menu without getting an error, or is that after calling up the dialog and clicking OK?
When you select Print from the 3-bar menu, Firefox should call up Print Preview. So neither method is working for that.
It seems that Firefox is having a severe issue with reading some metrics from your printer driver or has some other setting or program problem.
In case one of your extensions is involved, could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).

When attempting to print from a printer friendly version the print window is empty.
When attempting to print from a printer friendly version the print window is empty. I have also noticed if I click on all programs and Acrobat.com the window that opens says unable to connect to the internet. I can even be on the internet and do it. I have downloaded the reader DC suggested under document to print. [personal information (email address) removed by moderator]
Hi,
Would you tell us the exact name of the application that you use? What is your operating system?
Is it "Adobe Acrobat Reader DC", "Adobe Acrobat Pro DC", or "Adobe Acrobat Standard DC" for desktop computers?
Or "Adobe Acrobat DC for iOS" or "Adobe Acrobat DC for Android" (for mobile devices)? -
Regarding the printer-friendly versions of wiki articles...
Hey, I just have a suggestion for the layout of the wiki. I don't see why the little translation/language box is needed for the printer-friendly versions of any of the articles. It's a minor complaint, really, but it gets on my nerves a little bit. I propose you get rid of it. (the categories at the bottom are also not very necessary for a printed article)
Anyways, like I said it's just a suggestion, do with it what you will.is there a chance you could take a look at the css for printing and give me a patch? I agree with you about htem being unnecessary, but i'm not sure it's possible to get rid of the translation box because of the way it's set up. The categories are probably just a display:none somewhere.

How can I make the annotation box show in the printed word version on the pages app?
I want to insert annotation box on the side of the text. But I found that i cannot do that, and the annotation box disappear on the printed version of my document. How can I make that appear on my printed verison? Thank you!
You are referring to Comments and Apple has removed the old method from Pages 5.
If it is important to you go back to using Pages '09 which should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.

Hi,
My JSP needs to generate a "printer-friendly" version of a page.
1) As you know, the JavaScript print() method prints the page currently loaded in the browser. Can I, in my "Printer-unfriendly" page, have a Print button, which on click, calls a JSP/servlet, generates a "Printer-friendly" page BUT DOES NOT LOAD IN THE BROWSER, but prints? Or do I have to show the user the "Printer-Friendly" page before printing it?
2) What are the points I need to take care in order to make an HTML page Printer-friendly?
thanksHi!
I, just recently, made this kind of page you're talking about and didn't find a simple and good way of achieving this through anything but a simple print-friendly page.
I did it using
# body-onload triggers the print() function
# through some logic (counting html lines) in the page I inserted the folowing html code to achieve
page breaks in the printed document:
<p clear=all style='page-break-before:always'>
# After the print method I forwarded the client to another page (which will happen even if the user
clicked cancel in the print dialogue)
If you find a better way, I'd br glad to hear of it...

About printer friendly link in iProcurement purchasing
Hi Guys,
This is a very strange requirement for me. In iProcurement, when the user tries to create requisitions, it will go thru some process .... , approvers, billing, etc .. and lastly you will click submit to create the requisition. Before you click submit button to create the requisitions, you will be in a page where you can view the details of all the lines you created to submit them. If your requisition has 3 lines, then you will have 3 lines with "view" link on to the left, if you click one view, it will expand and show all the details of that line. At the same time, if you see on the top of that page, you can see "Printer Friendly version of this page" link. if you click that link, it will display in a printer friendly format with all the details of each line expanded in a printable format and it can be printed.
my problem is, after the requisition is created, you can go to requisition details and click a requisition to see its details. if the requisition has more than one line, you can see that many lines. If you want to see the details of each line, then you need to click each line "view" link on to the right side to see their details. Now here you cant see that "printer friendly version of this page". How can i implement the same concept of "printer-friendly version of this page" which comes while creating the requisition.
can it be implemented thru AK Developer.
Help Appreciated
ThanksHi,
We are interested in this functionality also.
But I did not see a link like you have explain. Our version is 11.5.10 CU2 and I see a button 'Printable Page' in the ReviewSubmit page.
Is your version the same as ours?
We want the Approver to print the page also. Is there a facility for this?
Appreciate it if you can provide some information.
Thanks

Hi,
I have a page item of type Display as Text (based on LOV, saves state). The page shows the display value ("Pending" in this case). However, when I launch the page in Print Friendly mode, it shows the return value ("2"), instead of the display value ("Pending").
This also occurs for any other select lists on my pages if the select list is read only.
Any ideas or workarounds?
Thanks,
Chaunaciyes, this does appear to happen for items of type "Display as Text(based on LOV, saves state)", but things seem to work fine for my select list items in the production version of htmldb. i'll log the issue in a bit, but two ways to work around it for now would be to:
1) add an extra item to your page that would render correctly in printer friendly mode. use our built-in condition types of "Current Page Is in Printer Friendly Mode" and "Current page is NOT in Printer Friendly Mode" to determine which/when of your two items should be displayed.
2) tweak your LOV query a little bit to pay attention to the api variable, htmldb_application.g_printer_friendly. it's a boolean that returns true if your app is in printer friendly mode.
if you really are seeing this behavior with select list items, could you please provide more specifics as to how those items were set up?
thanks,
raj

i now see the issue w/the select lists occurs in read-only mode. gotcha. didn't read that right the first time. i'll add this to the bug rpt.
