Printer friendly

I've had a request to put some printer-friendly versions of
pages on a site. I've never really thought about how thats done.
Obviously for things like documents it can be a text or doc
file. When designers are doing this for a web page do they simply
create a captured version (like a pdf created with tools like
SnagIt)?

  • Page Header and Footer in Printer Friendly mode

    Hi,
I have a report which has more than 500 rows and I want to print them.
The printer friendly mode works fine, but is it possible that there is a page "header" and "footer" on every page which is printed?
For example, that the column headings are on every page which was printed?
Or that at the bottom of each page is the page number displayed?
    Does anyone have an idea?
    Thanks,
    Tim

IE and Firefox are designed for WEB pages.
WEB pages are on Internet. Security is important and browser should not compromise user to use it.
    Many users=Many printers!
If you want to write app for especially one printer and know users (Intranet application) then here is what you can do:
    1) Use IE
    2) write your own ocx with interface for your needs.
    3) every user should implement this ocx in their browser.
    4) When they accept your ocx, then in this "small app" you could do as much as this user can do on their own windows. So setting printer, orientation and size is a peace of cake.
    5) make your report regarding this printer
    And this is it!
    And few other things...
If user choose larger font then your HTML is broken!!!
For that I think that PL/PDF or Mail merge is better solution!

  • LOVs in Print Friendly Mode

    Hi,
I have a page item of type Display as Text (based on LOV, saves state). The page shows the display value ("Pending" in this case). However, when I launch the page in Print Friendly mode, it shows the return value ("2"), instead of the display value ("Pending").
This also occurs for any other select lists on my pages if the select list is read only.
    Any ideas or workarounds?
    Thanks,
    Chaunaci

yes, this does appear to happen for items of type "Display as Text(based on LOV, saves state)", but things seem to work fine for my select list items in the production version of htmldb. i'll log the issue in a bit, but two ways to work around it for now would be to:
    1) add an extra item to your page that would render correctly in printer friendly mode. use our built-in condition types of "Current Page Is in Printer Friendly Mode" and "Current page is NOT in Printer Friendly Mode" to determine which/when of your two items should be displayed.
    2) tweak your LOV query a little bit to pay attention to the api variable, htmldb_application.g_printer_friendly. it's a boolean that returns true if your app is in printer friendly mode.
if you really are seeing this behavior with select list items, could you please provide more specifics as to how those items were set up?
    thanks,
    raj

i now see the issue w/the select lists occurs in read-only mode. gotcha. didn't read that right the first time. i'll add this to the bug rpt.

  • Change font size in printer friendly template

Can anyone please let me know where to change the font size in a printer friendly template?
    Thanks!

Basically I want to change the font size only in the printer friendly page of the report and not in the orginal report. Any ideas?

  • Change Report Font Size for Printer Friendly Page

I have a report using a template of 'Reports Region' and I have a link to a printer friendly page. Because the report text is so big I would like to make it smaller. I have already reduced the width of the report region but that has made 2 page reports run into 4 pages. I tried adding tags to the page to modify it but I was only able to make the text at the top of the page smaller and not the report. I tried modifying the theme_V3.css file but I could not find a place to modify text/font size in the report (This was trial and error as I am unfamiliar with css).
I would like to only have it smaller on the printer friendly page but if I will be forced to change it all the time I would like to know if there is at least an option.
If the only way to make this happen is to build a custom report then so be it. (But again the printer friendly page only pulls in the current page and I want it to only be small on the printer page)
    I am on V2.2.
    Thanks

You need to use a print media stylesheet. You'll need to find class(es) or other CSS selector(s) to attach the font size rule(s) to - look at the HTML source for your page.

  • I added extension: Print Friendly initial rev72.1 & Print/Print Preview 0.9 but they don't appear on the add on bar. How can I use these two?

My OS is Windows 7 and I recently upgraded to Firefox 23.0.1 and then installed the extensions: Print/Print Preview 0.9 and Printfriendly initial rev 72.1. When I go to the add on manager they are listed and not disabled. Under Toolbars, the following are selected: Menu Bar, Navigation Tool Bar, Bookmarks Tool Bar, Add-On-Bar. I don't see any of my Extensions on the Add-On-Bar. At the bottom left of the browser window appears an "x" for closing the Add-On-Bar. There is nothing else showing.

Print/Print Preview uses and appends to the default Print button that comes with Firefox. If you don't have that button, use the '''Restore Default Set''' button in the lower-right corner of the Palette.
As far as Print Friendly, the AMO download page says that button is placed on the Add-on Bar by default. If it isn't there maybe "Restore ...." will fix it, and if not I would suspect a compatibility issue.
Beyond that I can't help you, as I use the Print Edit extension which works fine with Print/Print Preview . I don't like Print Friendly due that extension using their website instead of doing the "editing" within the users browser. Potential security issues for me.
Note, I have tried the Print Friendly bookmarklet which works very much like their extension, and after examining the code and having a person who I consider well-versed with JavaScript look at it - I decided to use Print Edit instead.

I recently upgraded to 3.6.3 and since then, clicking on an icon that normally would open another windows (for example, a printer-friendly version of the current web page), nothing happens. • How do I create a printer friendly page in a popup window for a JSF page

I have a JSF page that displays a table that shows the inventory level of a particular garment style. The table is like a matrix with each row representing a color of the style and each column representing a size of the garment. So the data in the table cell is for the inventory level of a particular color/size combination (e.g. navy blue of medium size ) for the particular style. The page also allows you to dynamically select a warehouse from a dropdown to see the inventory matrix of that warehouse.
Now everything has been working fine except that the matrix table is not printer-friendly. So we need to have a Print button or link on the page that will generate a popup window that displays the same matrix table in a printer-friendly format (with different style sheet etc.). What is the best way to populate the matrix table in the popup? The data in the matrx table is stored in a hashmap in a InventoryManageBean of session scope.
Also, shoud I use window.open to get the new window and if so what do I pass in the URL parameter?
Any advice is appreciated. It would be great if you can include a code sample as I would think someone else must have had this done before.

Any one please? This is urgent. Thanks a ton!

  • Send printer friendly page per mail

    Hello everybody.
I'm very new with APEX and I couldn't find an answer to solve my problem:
I have a printer friendly page with several text elements and a report so that it nearly looks like a letter in the end.
Now I want to send this page as a "pdf-attachment" per mail when pressing a button.
I already noticed the "add_attachment"-procedure in the APEX_MAIL package, but how do i get my actual printer friendly page stored in a BLOB-column in my DB to use this procedure?
    Thanks in advance
    Carsten

    Carsten,
There are several different version of the get_print_document function, e.g there's this one:
    APEX_UTIL.GET_PRINT_DOCUMENT (
    p_report_data IN CLOB,
    p_report_layout IN CLOB,
    p_report_layout_type IN VARCHAR2 default 'xsl-fo',
    p_document_format IN VARCHAR2 default 'pdf',
    p_print_server IN VARCHAR2 default NULL
    ) RETURN BLOB;
So you could store both the XML and XSL in a CLOB. But it might be easier to get started referencing actual report queries and report layouts, which you store under shared components and then use this API:
    APEX_UTIL.GET_PRINT_DOCUMENT (
    p_application_id IN NUMBER,
    p_report_layout_name IN VARCHAR2,
    p_report_query_name IN VARCHAR2,
    p_report_layout_name IN VARCHAR2 default null,
    p_report_layout_type IN VARCHAR2 default 'xsl-fo',
    p_document_format IN VARCHAR2 default 'pdf',
    p_print_server IN VARCHAR2 default null
    ) RETURN BLOB;
Using pre-defined report queries and layouts ensures that you don't run into issues with your custom XML and XSL data.
The error message "500 Internal Server Error" is a standard Java error message that doesn't tell you anything. Maybe you could find more info in one of your log files. Are you using BI Publisher? Apache FOP? Or some other rendering engine?

    Marc

  • Printer friendly output does not print region borders

I am using theme 10 i have set up a printer friendly template which has a report region in it. The printer friendly page displays correctly on the monitor, but when i print the page the region borders are not printed. I only seem to get the corners of the region printing

any suggestions as to why this is??

    Have figured it out...

in the Printing section check the 'Print Background colors and images' box

can I change it to be more like columns side by side to save paper?

    S,
I assume that you also have Pages on your computer (or some other capable WP program). I also assume that you have eliminated any unnecessary columns, so you have a 1-column table in Numbers.
When it comes time to print, Copy the entire Table: Click on the table name in the Sheets Pane and Command-C.
Switch to Pages, open a blank WP template and set the number of columns to 3 or so. With the Text Insertion Cursor flashing on the first line of the first column of the blank template, Command-V. Your table should paste into the Pages document as an Inline Object and will Wrap on the page as you desire. Then Print in Pages.

  • Printer Friendly Version

I am currently designing a site where each page needs a
printer friendly version. I thought about creating all the pages in
a simple format using CSS and then linking a button from the
complex page to the simple page.
However, I have appeared on this forum before and have been
encouraged to look at this article (I don't expect you busy people
    to read it!)
The article sets a CSS document for the printer friendly
versions. However, when I put a button into my non-printer friendly
version (HTML) how do I make it create a new document with the new
CSS rules? Would I have to use a CSS swapper?
    Thanks in advance.

    No buttons are needed.
If you setup you page and CSS documents correctly, when a
    user chooses Print
from their browser's menu, they'll get the print friendly
    version.
