Printer glass residue

HP Photosmart C4480 All-in-One
How can I clean out residue under the sealed glass panel on my all-in-one printer scanner?   The only access seems to require a small Alan wrench in the shape of a star.  Is it possible to get the needed tool?
The printer works fine but leaves a vertical line on every page from the speck trapped under the glass.  This printer is no longer available from HP, so replacing it is not an option.. All of the new ones are black or silver - no more in white to match my decor. Since it's out of warranty, HP support would cost more than a new printer.
How can I simply get the necessary tool to remedy the problem?  If the product is not sealed enough to prevent such a problem, the tool should be included or available.
Please help!

The tool you describe is likely a TORX driver, which is common.  The security version have an additional nub in the center.  I do not know what size you need, T-10 is a common size.  You can probably find a set of TORX bits for a few dollars.
I have a Photosmart Premium c309a here that is white if it matters....

  • My printer prints from word but nowhere else. not even directly from printer glass.

I have had this printer, Officejet Pro 8600 (Model # SNPRC-1101-01)since December 2013 with no problems until recently.  Nothing has changed.  No new computers, printers, change in internet servers, etc.  I can print from word documents but the printer sounds like its working overtime looking for what to print.  No strange noices just a lot of carriage movement.  It will not print directly from the glass and the automatic feed on top of machine does not work.  The print cartridges are in correctly along with plenty of the correct size of HP paper (8.5x11).  I now get various messages, Error; Paper detected does not match paper size or type selected.  Make sure paper size is correct to continue the job; etc.  Sometimes when it does print wirelessly, the margins are off center, leaving about 2-4" blank  space from papers left edge. I have tried all the obvious fixes.  Shutting it down.  Unplugging and letting it rest for 10 plus minutes before reconnecting to power and restarting. Turning Router off for 10 minutes before turning it back on.  I even checked the settings and selected " restore to factory default settings."
Please explain in great detail what I need to do to fix my printer as I am not that tech savy.
Thank you in advance for any help and advice.

I wonder if you have a print job stuck in the print queue?  Double click the Home button and a row of recent applications should appear across the bottom of the screen.  Scroll across and look for the Print Queue.

  • The Mozilla WHITE start page is blocking the upper left Firefox to Print to Print Preview, so i can not see what is on the Printer Glass

The BIG WHITE MOSTLY BLANK , MOZILLA START PAGE was blocking my use of PRINT PREVIEW, from the orange "Firefox" in the upper left corner.
I was told i was using an out of date version of Firefox.
But no "click here to update".
So i downloaded the new edition of Firefox.
And still, i can not see PRINT PREVIEW, because the large white screen of the MOZILLA START PAGE is blocking it.
I have selected a background wallpaper, so would rather not see ANY of the BIG WHITE START PAGE, at all !!

Can you please post a [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screenshot screenshot] of the start page when it is blocking the print preview. • HP LaserJet 1536dnf MFP will not copy or scan but does print

My HP LaserJet 1536dnf MFP will not copy or scan but does print.  It does not matter if I use the ADF or the glass.  When copying or scanning I get a completey black page.  The light bar does move from one end of the printer glass to the other.  There are no connectivity issues as the printing function and the e-print function work fine.
    Thank you for your help

    Hi @akb3,
I understand that when you try to scan or copy, you are getting a black page. I can help you with this.
Please keep the scanner lid open and then press the copy button.
Check if the scanner bulb glows.
Check if the scanner moves freely across the glass.
If it does not try connecting the printer directly to the wall jack and try again.
Update the printer's firmware if the bulb glows and scanner moves freely. HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf Multifunction Printer Drivers.

  • HP 6310 AIO Printer locks up and needs to be power-cycled when faxing from my PC.

I have an HP 6310 AIO Printer; Whenever I try to fax a document from my PC, the printer locks up (All lights flashing) and needs to be power-cycled. I can fax from the printer glass directly but unable to from my PC. Also the software communicates properly whenever I am scanning from the glass or feed tray. What would make it locks up and all light flashing? it seems as if whenever I generate the fax or scan from the PC end it locks up the printer.

Completely reload the full feature software and drivers for the printer.

  • New black ink cartridge will not print from computer or glass.

Able to print from word documents, e-mails.  But cannot print off from glass copy face or internet web sites.

To reset the printer, follow these steps:
While the power is on, remove the power cord from the back of the printer. Wait at least 30 seconds, then connect the power cord to the back of the printer, then turn the unit on. That will complete a power reset.
Now, missing black during printing can be a result of a couple of things. If it is only missing say when printing from Word, then the print settings within Word are set to grayscale only (or something similar) which would exclude the black cartridge. If it is from all programs, then it is either the main print settings set to grayscale only, or the printhead/cartridge is clogged up/dirty. If it is not the print settings, then create a print quality report and follow the steps in this document:

  • 8600 all in one won't print or scan documents placed directly on glass?

I have a new Officjet 8600 All In One model N911A.  I can't get it to print or scan a document placed directly on the glass.  It will print and scan using the auto document feeder only.
I am working wirelessly and tried to run the HP Hardware Diagnostic Utility but it tells me the printer isn't connected to my computer.  Ugh!
All I wanted to do was copy a page from a magazine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK, try installing this firmware. Depending on which OS you have, please select the link below:
    Windows 7
    Windows 8
Try to copy and scan after this update.

    traumax,
Try downloading and running the print and scan doctor located here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03275041&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en
It can fix a lot on its own and if not give a better idea of what is going on and would you mind clarifying where we see the hour glass - on the printer or the desktop?

  • I don't know if this is a Firefox problem so I ask, When printing how come it always prints so small I nearly need a magnafing glass? Is this caused by something else I may have set incorrectly? help please, from a very satisfied Firefox user

I don't know if this is a Firefox problem so I ask, When printing how come it always prints so small I nearly need a magnifying glass? Is this caused by something else I may have set incorrectly? help please, from a very satisfied Firefox user

This only happens when I'm in my browser. Ex. when I'm on a site and I decide I like what I see and want to print it text that is, my printer always prints tiny. When I'm in Microsoft Word for ex. I print it and it looks like what I expect. So I don't know if somehow my printer got set to print tiny when on the web. If you can help me I would be most appreciative. Thanks again for your response.

  • Trouble printing from the glass

The printer works fine when printing from the computer however when I print from the glass the printer makes loud mechanical noises and takes several minutes to print one page.  This happened once before about 6 months ago and it took a full day to find someone to help me figure it out.  Has anyone else had this problem or knows how to fix it?

Hi , Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I understand that you're experiencing mechanical noises on your HP Officejet 5745 e-All-in-One Printer. I would be happy to assist you with this. From what you're describing, I understand that when you're performing a copy or scanning on the printer you hear mechanical noises, but when you're printing from the computer you don't. Is this correct? It sounds as though the scanner mechanism is making this noise, this will be apparent while copying and scanning, but not while printing. Please try these steps:   Step one: Reset the All-in-OneMake sure the product is on, and then disconnect the power cord from the product.Disconnect the USB cable from the product, and then disconnect it from the computer.Reconnect the USB cable to the computer, and then reconnect it securely to the product.Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet, and then reconnect it to a direct wall outlet. Do not use a surge protector or power bar.Reconnect the power cord to the product.Press the Power button () to turn on the product.Step two: Make a blank copyRemove any originals from the scanner glass.Load plain white paper in the input tray.Press Start Copy Black to make a blank copy.If there is no noise there is no need to continue troubleshooting. If the copy was noisy, there might be dust inside the product, poor internal connections, or the product might be damaged. See the next solution.Possible causes:Loose power cord connectionPoor internal connectionsDirt or debris inside the productDamaged or faulty scanner bulb or partsIf you completed all the preceding steps and your product still has an issue, service the product. Contacting HP for service in all countries/regions except Asia Pacific.First, go to Check your product warranty to check your printer warranty status, and then go to Contact HP Support to find an authorized service dealer or to schedule a repair.Repair fees might apply for out-of-warranty printers. What you can do, is use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:
    Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your
    contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on: HP contact options - click on Get phone

Case number and phone number appear. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

  • Need disassembly instructions for lid/glass plate of Photosmart 5520 printer to remove dead ants

    Forum,
I have ants under the glass of my printer.  The ants got very excited and freaked out when I pressed the copy button and the light bar turned on!   The ants are dead now as I placed the printer in the freezer for several days in a sealed bag.  Now I need a disassembly procedure allowing me to just gain access to the area under the glass plate so I can remove all the dead ants and pupa before they attract any new ants or fungi.  I am good at taking apart basic electronic products but I would rather have a step-by-step disassembly precedure if available.  The online PDF disassembly instructions for recyclers didn't help because of lack of detail.  Of course, I would also like to be able to put it back together in working order.  I could just leave the ants to mummify if field disassembly is not a good idea.
    Thank you,  Duncan

    Hi DuncanH,
I definetly wouldn't recommend disabbling the printer.  If the printer is still functioning I would let them be.

  • I want to print large enough so I can read with out using a magnafying glass because Firefox prints are so small how can I fix this

Every time I print whether it be coupons, or anything from the web the printing is so very tiny you can hardly read it. I use Firefox because I like it ... I don' t want to have to change back to internet explorer but I will if this can not be fixed.

By default, Firefox will "shrink to fit" when printing. You may need to choose Landscape mode for some sites. Depending on a site's design, you might be able to enlarge text instead of shrinking. I suggest using the controls in Print Preview to experiment with different options. Does that help at all?

  • Adhesive to reattach cover on Envy 110 printer

    Hi folks,
The cover to my Envy 110 all-in-one printer came off. (Remember when HP actually made quality stuff...?)
I'm looking for advice on choosing an adhesive to reattach it. I think we're talking about gluing metal to a glass-like shiny plastic. Perhaps superglue? But I'm worried about achieving enough contact surface, since there's lots of residue from the previous adhesive.
    Thanks,

Is this the cover inside the scanner lid or on top?
If it's still under warranty, please call HP for replacement.
