Printer goes missing on airport extreme

How do I get my airport extreme to recognize my wireless printer

You really asked two questions - printer goes missing and how to get the Airport to recognize the printer.  Does it initially recognize the printer then it disappears?  When it disappears does it really (on the front of the printer: Setup > Network > Wireless Network Test) or does it just disappear from your Mac?
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

As you know, the AirPort Extreme has 3 Ethernet LAN ports, as does the Time Capsule.

  • Epson Stylus r360 issues printing in Leopard via Airport Extreme & Bonjour

I hope I am not duplicating any posts, have searched but have not found a similar problem.
I have an Epson Stylus Photo R360 printer connected to my Airport extreme via USB sharing the resource around the house via Bonjour to all my Mac's.
Problem is it works fine under Tiger but the 2 Mac's that have been upgraded to Leopard 10.5 no longer print. It discovers the printer and loads in the printer configuration window ok, drivers are found and the printer looks good to go.
However, when you try and print, after about a minute an error appears on the printer in Leopard with an exclamation mark and is unable to continue.
If you hook up the printer directly to any Mac running leopard, it works fine!
Anyone else having this problem? Is this something Apple has changed in Bonjour or maybe printer drivers problem via Bonjour?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    G

I found a fix for the problem of not being able to print from a printer connected to an Airport Extreme.
I had similar issues with my Canon iP4200, which was connected to an Airport Extreme. Printing worked fine with Tiger, but Leopard has somehow corrupted the feature. Printing is now very sporadic, at best - and will stop a few seconds into the printing and hang. My solution was to hook the printer directly up to the main (host computer). Go into System Preferences > Sharing, and make sure you've selected 'printer sharing'. Then go into the Sys Pref for "Printing/Fax", and remove your current printer (which was accessed via Bonjour on your Extreme) - you can leave it if you like, just make sure that when you add the new one, that you make it the default. Once set, make sure that you check the box labeled 'Share this Printer'. You will also now notice that the printer's location has changed to your host computer's name. You will now be able to print from your main computer without a hitch. Now access the System Pref>Printer/Fax from any other wired or wireless computer on your network. Add a new printer, a new choice will appear on your list, which will list the printer name with the "@" symbol, followed by your host computer's name. Select that, and let it do it's auto driver check, then click 'add'.
You will now be able to print from any of your computer's on the network. Best of luck.

  • I am not able to print to my usb airport extreme attached printer from my windows aptop or window desktop

I am not able to print to my usb airport extreme attached printer from my windows aptop or window desktop

Your post did not really provide any details on what you have done in the way of troubleshooting or printer software that you have installed, so we don't have much to go on here.
For starters though, you will not be able to print unless you have installed Bonjour Print Services for Windows v2.0.2 on the PC(s) and run the program.
So, if you have not done this, that would be a good first step.

  • Printing through a Snow Airport Extreme

We have 2 Macs, a G4 PowerBook (on Leopard) and a MacBook Pro (on Snow Leopard).
We have 2 printers, an HP2605 connected by Ethernet to a 'Snow' base station, and an HP1015 connected by USB to an Airport Express on the network.
Prior to up grading the MBP to Snow Leopard both computers could print to both printers.
Since upgrading the MBP to Snow Leopard the MBP cannot print to the HP1015. Even stranger is that it baulks the PowerBook from printing to it too.
On both computers it shows "Opening printer connection" for ages before timing out.
I reset the Express and it worked fine from the PowerBook - until I tried to print from the MBP again.
    Any ideas?

    OK I have tried;
Printing from a Windows XP PC to a printer attached to an Airport Extreme Base Station or Airport Express
    http://tech.ifelix.net/1004.html
When I set up I breeze through it UNTIL I get to
:CREATE NEW PORT" I select the Standard TCP etc then I get the
"Windows won't let you create it as it already exisits"
I get lost when you say
"if you have already created the port in a previous attempt then use the drop down list to select the previous port"
I have no clue what the previous port was ?
    Any tips ?

  • Can any printer connect to the airport extreme or do i need a special printer?

can any printer connect to the airport extreme or do i need a special printer?

There are rare exceptions but any USB printer should be able to use its USB printer port. Only the print function of all-in-one a/k/a "multifunction" devices will work with the USB port though.
The Extreme will support any networked (wired or wireless) printer or multifunction device.

  • Is there a difference between AirPrint and printing via usb printer plugged into an airport extreme?

My printer does not show up in the add a printer option on my iMac when plugged into the extreme. I have a HP officejet 5610 All-in-One. I want to be able to print wirelessly using my Airport Extreme.  Thank you

Is there a difference between AirPrint and printing via usb printer plugged into an AirPort Exreme?
    Big difference.
AirPrint for one will not work via USB, so you will not be able to print from an iOS device like an iPhone or iPad using this type of connection unless you look at additional software....that may or may not allow this option.
Assuming that you get the All-in-One setup using the USB port on the AirPort.......only printing is supported.
You will not be able to use any other advanced features like maintenance, scan, copy, fax, etc when the device is connected to the USB port on an AirPort.
If you plan to use the HP for other things, I would strongly recommend that you connect it to your computer.
My printer does not show up in the add a printer option on my iMac when plugged into the extreme.
This usually indicates that your printer model is not supported. Check with HP Support to see if they have any updated Macintosh drivers for the 5610 that you could download and install that might allow this.

  • Recognizing a printer attached to an Airport Extreme Base Station

I have attached a printer to the usb port of my airport extreme base station. The printer is recognized by two of my MacBook Pros running Mac OS X version 10.4.11. However, it is not recognized by my latest MacBook Pro running 10.5.2. Is this a problem with the new system, or is there another reason? I have, of course, made sure that the printer drivers are installed, and the printer attached to the Airport works with the new MacBook Pro when connected directly through a usb port on the laptop. Any help will be gratefully received!!

Please do not pollute the OP's thread by posting here. You are clearly experiencing a different problem - different symptoms, different version of OS X, different printer - and will get much better help if you start your own thread because your problem will get lots more attention that way.

  • Iphone, IPad and printer not connecting to Airport Extreme

    Hello everyone,
I have a problem with my wireless. I have an one year old airport extreme. I can connect to my IMac wirelessly and my macbook pro without any problem, however my iphone, printer and IPad have problem connecting to my wireless network. The only way my iphone and ipad can connect is if I'm next to the airport extreme. If I go to the next room it will disconnect, even thought the signal appear to be find. This is not the first time I have this problem. I corrected the problem by going to the setting and turn off and on the Robustness which I don't know why I no longer have that option on the airport extreme. I have reset, power cycle all device and no luck.

The iPhone includes a b/g compatible wireless card, so "n" alone will not work, and the same when set to "n/a".
I have my Airport Extreme Time Capsule set up via simultaneous dual band so my MBP with an "n" compatible wireless card can connect via "n" with my iPhone connected to the other band via "b/g".
In regards to your MacBook slowing down, is this in regards to transferring data from one computer to another, or is this with your internet connection only?

  • Printing on MBP thru Airport Extreme

I got my MBP and would setup a network printing with Epson AcuLaser C1100 through Airport Extreme Basestation. However, when I start to print, I got "InterfaceType Error = -1". Then, the print job terminated. Could anyone tell me why? Now, I am using Epson printer driver version 3a and I tried other version, but it won't help.
    MBP   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

All I can say is good luck. I had mine printing through the base station before I reinstalled the OS and now it will not print and I get a similiar message. I have emailed Canon and they are not helping me at all on this. They said something like the printer doesn't support wireless printing. Apple Care kind of said the same thing but was a little less rude about it. So I am going to call Apple Care back and see if they will help me on this. So I would try to call Apple Care and also check the compatibility list too, just to make sure your printer is on the list. Good Luck!

  • How can I print from ipad2 via airport extreme to hp printer on USB.

Is there a way to get iPad2 to print via airport extreme to a non wireless hp printer?

Apple - iPad - Print right from your iPad with AirPrint.
Unfortunately, AirPrint will only work with AirPrint enabled HP printers.
Check the HP site. They may have an app available you can use for your USB / Airport printer.

  • All-in-one printer that works with Airport Extreme (n)

    Hi all,
I have recently bought an Intel MacBook and an Airport Extreme 'n'.
Now I am looking for a compatible all-in-one (multifunction) printer. I have been searching on the net all day till my eyes are sore.
I don't need to use it too often so am looking for a a cheapie under $120. I mainly need it for printing black and white, photocopying and scanning the occasional document.
Is anyone using one with decent quality or can recommend one?
I know about ifelix's list but am looking for a recommendation as well as one that is compatible...
    thanks you...

I have looked around here, and just can't figure this
out, please someone help. I just purchased a 3180 hd
with my macbook. Was printing wirelessly fine with
my previous hd and new extreme. Now this one isn't
working and hp said that it is not a supported
wireless printer. Why on earth would apple sell this
    printer then.
Could someone please tell me how to make this printer
work over my new airport extreme base. PLEASE
This is the problem with the new airport extreme(n). All the printers work when connected directly to your computer, it is when they are connected to the base station that there seems to be compatibility problems. I have ruled out buying the C3180 for this reason.
Someone may be able to help you. If not you will either have to connect it directly to your mackbook to use it or return it and buy one that is compatible.

  • Printer not recognized by Airport Extreme

I recently purchased an Airport Extreme that I'm trying to use to network a USB HP Printer (PSC 2410) and an external hard drive for access by a Macbook Air and a Windows laptop.  I had the printer working for a day with the Macbook and then it is no longer recognized from the Printers in the Macbook; the printer never got recognized by the Windows laptop via Bonjour but I'm mostly interested in trrying to at least make sure I can get this working with the Macbook.  The printer works fine if plugged directly via USB into the Macbook.  I have searched forums and tried the basics - made sure I had latest firmware, restarted the Airport Extreme and the printer multiple times, reset printers in the Macbook, etc. but no matter what I do I can no longer have the printer be recognized when connected to the Airport Extreme.  Also, I've noticed people talking about a printers tab in the Airport Utility, but I do not have a printers tab in the Airport Utility (version 6) on the Macbook.  Any ideas would be very much appreciated about how to get the printer recognized again in order to use it wirelessly.  Thanks!

  • Can't print from my printer after upgrading to Airport Extreme

I recently upgraded from the conehead airport to the newest Airport extreme.  Now my Epson Artisan 700 wireless capable printer is listed as "offline" by my Macbook pro.  I went through Epson support who indicated that my printer isn't WPA2 compatible, so I changed it on my laptop to comply. The printer shows accurate connection information and indicates it is communicating with the airport, but still can't print.  The software final installation indicates that there is no ethernet connection from the printer to the router.  The cable is connected and is the same one I previously used which worked.  So the only changes are 1) new airport, new password which I updated in the printer. 2) updated security from WPA2 to WPA.
    Any thoughts?

Open Print & Fax preferences, select the printer and CTRL- or RIGHT-click, then select Reset Printing System from the contextual menu. Then re-add your printer. See if that fixes the problem.

  • Can't set up a printer to work with airport extreme...

Alright, I've been stuck here for a while.
I have an HP PCS 1310. I can set it up perfectly using a USB cable, but when i try to set it up via Airport Extreme, i can't.
When i try to set it up through airport, the computer doesn't know what drivers to use. It can find the printer, and it'll tell me the name, and the location, but it will ask me to choose what drivers to use. I can't find my printer on the list. I don't really know what to do.
I'm sorry for being so vague...I wish i could post some pictures (and if i can, can someone please explain how?)
    Thanks everyone!!

Here is what fixed the printing issues for me:
    1) Open up the Airport Utility and determine the IP address of your Airport.
    2) Add the printer via System Prefs -> Printers (using Boujour)
    3) Then, navigate to http://localhost:631. This will take you to the CUPS setting for the printers.
    4) Go to "Manage Printers" on the CUPS setting for your printer.
    5) Click on "Modify Printer." It will prompt you for your username and password for the computer (enter your short name that you use to login to your machine and password).
    6) Click continue until you get to Device. Change this to AppSocket/HP JetDirect. Click continue.
    7) Change to: socket://your_ip:9101
    8) Continue on till you get to the end of the Modify Device section.
    9) Open up Preferences -> Printers and print a test page.
If this doesn't work, try changing the port to 9102 instead of 9101.
