Printer head problem - HP Photosmart 5515 Printer

My printer has suddenly stopped working.  At first the document was very blurred and I got an error message saying something about the printer head being missing.
I rebooted the printer and tried the automated 'printer head clean' option.  Now when trying print any sort of document, the printer appears to work OK but then there is nothing on the paper.  There is also now no longer any error message coming up.
Does anyone have any ideas how I might be able to fix this problem?
Thanks

  • Header problem with photosmart 8180 when printing with company letterhead

I print many letters through MS Word 2003.  When I print a letter on plain paper, it looks fine and is the correct distance (1 1/2") from the top of the page(s).  Our letterhead consists of a 1" dark band with our logo included and our address across the bottom of the page.  I then insert our letterhead to print a final, the printer moves the letter (date, name, address and body) down another 1", meaning the printer is using the bottom of the band to measure the top margin.  It also ignores the bottom margin of 1" and just prints into the address, instead of going to the next page.  Both types of paper are the same 8 1/2 X 11.
We have Konica network printer and I previously had a HP 930 printer and never have seen this before.  I have uninstalled the printer and reinstalled and the only change I have made since is to change the the paper type, under "Print", "Properties", "Features", "Paper Type", from Automatic to Plain Paper.  Neither helps.
I have an extended email list with HP Customer Care, telling me everything from installing a 990C driver (or virtual printer?) to have me check to make sure I knew how to load paper.
I then spent over an hour on the phone with an HP rep and even gave him control of my computer, to no avail.  He thinks he fixed the problem by having me reduce the top margin, to say 1/2" and basically trick the printer into printing at the correct place below the band, but the second page is now too far up because of that.
I hope someone can help.  I found it hard to believe that this has only happened to me.
    Thanks for any help.

  • How to get How do I get my Vista PC to See my Photosmart 5515 Printer via my wireless network

I have recently purchased a Photosmart 5515 (B111h) printer and have followed the setup instructions to the letter. The printer is now connected to the wireless network with an IP address of 192.168.0.4. Nomatter what I try I cannot get my PC or laptop to see the printer, either using hp setup software, hp network diagnostics or via web browser using the printers ip address. I can use my pc to get the router to ping the printer sucessfuly. In desparation i set up my XP netbook and eventually got it to browse the printers built in homepage but i could not connect via hp software. After running the hp network diagnostics it told me that the correct software was not installed. After some further effort i eventually ended up downloding 5515b drivers and now the netbook is sucessfully sending to the printer, but I still can not get the two Vista machines to even see the printer. All the machines are running Norton internet security 2012, but turning the firewalls of does not make any difference to the Vista machines. I have repeatedly run the HP network diagnostics, this has not found the printer in (in the "HP printers found on your network" box) but does show it (in the newtwork devices list) as a device on the network with the IP address above and the name HPEC9A76C7CAB. I have also tried to brows the printers internal web page at the IP address but I get nothing, the page is in a constant state of update (No "page not found message", but no page either). Eventually (over a few min) it stop trying to update, the page remains blank but a "HP" logo appears in the browsers page tab. I have a samsung laser on the wireless network and this behaves perfectly and can easily be browsed. I also had a Kodak, which I removed to be replaced by the HP which also behaved perfectly for nearly 2 years. I am using a SKY router, which had been in use for several years now - without any problems.  So the current state of play is on the network I have A Vista PC that can't see the printer A Vista Laptop that can't see the printer Two iPads that can acces AirPrint over the network without problems An XP netbook that can access the printer without problems (other than the issues at setup) Two windows 7 laptops which I am not even going to attempt to tackle until the Vista machines are up and printing. Any help from the Experts would be much appreciated. Thanks Thanks

OK, well, I don't suppose it could have been that easy
I am thinking it has something to do with your router.  It is supplied by your ISP, right?  Try restarting the router by pulling its power plug momentarily.  Make sure the printer re-connects (with a proper IP address) after the router restarts.
Can you check to see if the firmware in the router is up to date?

I have recently purchased a Photosmart 5515 (B111h) printer and have followed the setup instructions to the letter. The printer is now connected to the wireless network with an IP address of 192.168.0.4. However I am unable to find it on the network using the HP setup software.
To test the connection I have set up eprinting and his works fine, so the printer must be connected to my route to be able to connect to the internet. I have run the printers wireless newtork test report and everything has come out "PASS"
I have tried turning off my personal firewall (Norton Internet Security 2012), but this has made no difference.
I have run the HP network diagnostics, this has not found the printer in (in the "HP printers found on your network" box) but does show it (in the newtwork devices list) as a device on the network with the IP address above and the name HPEC9A76C7CAB.

I have also tried connecting the printer via USB. This worked fine, but when I tried to use the setup software to change the USB connection to a wireless one, it identified the the printer was already connected to my wireless network, but again could not find it.
I am pulling my hair out here (and i have not got much to spare) can anyone help me out with a solution?
    Thanks

    HI,
I do not have a "Devices and Printers" option when I click on the start, The only thing I have close to that is the "Settings" then the "Printers" option but that behaves nothing like you describe from step 2 onewards.
I did have a play with the printers though and tried to add a preinter manually. When I chose the option of the new printer to be wireless it found the printer and I was able to install a driver for it from the CD. So now I have the printer working..... BUT the HP 5510 family printer software still does not work, I still can not connect it to the printer and can not install the scanner.
If I run HP home diagnostics It still can not find the printer on the network. However (now that I have installed the printer manually) the HP printer diagnostics finds the printer straight away and tells me there are no problems with it!!.
This is a far from satifactory situation. I may have the printer working (not exactly sure how I managed this when the HP software still can not see it) but I have no scanner or access to the HP tools.
Has anyone got any Idea what is going on or how to fix it?
    Cheer

  • Any way to keep faxing/scanning after "Print-head problem"??

We've got a "Print-head has problem" message.  Ordered new print-head (before seeing another poster's message saying "I did that twice and it didn't help!) but it won't arrive for several days. Meanwhile we'd love to still be able to use this alleged "all in one" to scan and fax.
Problem is, there doesn't seem to be a way to escape from the "print-head problem" message--none of the "cancel" or fax buttons will work.  Cycling the power just recovers the same message again, and otherwise locked up.
I'm hoping some old hand at HP may actually read this and know the magic fix.
So the question:  Is there any way to keep using the 7780's fax and/or scan functions after getting a "print-head has problem" message?
BTW, we've had several problems with the 7780 in the 3 years we've had it.  Had to send one back, and the auto-feeder has been hit-and-miss.  But we've been able to work thru the problems with HP support--though certainly at a high cost in our time.  Then with the problems getting a new Windoze-7 computer to work with it (certainly not entirely HP's fault but your customers could have used some better planning for the thing), we're starting to look at other manufacturers.
If any HP managers or execs ever read these boards, you might keep in mind that a reputation, once lost, is extremely hard to recover.
In any event, any help greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Hey Kappy, While my network is the only one in my preferred list, it's not the only one that the airport "sees". When I click on the wireless signal strength icon in the upper right part of the menu, when connected to my network, it says at the top of the pop up list "Airport: Scanning". It then lists about 10 wireless networks that are in range.
What I want it to do is stop "scanning" for other networks and simply lock on to my network once connection has been established. Is there a way to do this do you know? Thanks, Dan

  • HP Photosmart 5515 (B111h) printer

    Hi,
I have recently bought an HP Photosmart 5515 (B111h) printer and after printing a few pages it reported a paper jam. After removing the cleanout door as suggested in HP online support, I found another loose piece of plastic underneath that didn't seem to fit anywhere. It is about 8 inches long, and has what I can only describe as 5 broad, thin, slightly curved teeth that are connected down one of the long sides. The middle 'tooth' is much broader than the others. Overall the shape and size looks like it should fit around the rollers, as the gaps between the teeth match the roller width, however I can't find anywhere that it fits in place. It doesn't appear broken in anyway, yet it doesn't seem to have a home.
When I replace the cleanout door without this part in place, the printout is patchy - either faint or non-existent. The printer did work fine before the initial paper jam, but hasn't printed a good page since.
Any ideas what this piece of plastic is and where I should put it?!
    Thanks,
    Paul

Update: I have just realised I can attach photos to this message so have included a picture taken of the part in question, placed on top of the printer for scale, and a picture of roughly where I found the part once removing the cleanout door.
    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Hp photosmart 5515 will not print black.

hp photosmart 5515 will not print black, but will print colors (cyan blue yellow). Printer shows full inks on all colors.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

No solution. Power cycled several times, power cycled computers, modem, router, performed all recommended cleanings, changed all ink cartridges, checked it over several days - no go. Then, suddenly, after weeks, it started printing again. That's one hell of a gremlin. Throughout all of this time, my inexpensive Canon printer never faltered.

  • HP Photosmart 5515 software will not connect the printer to my laptop

hp photosmart 5515 printer is connected to my router but will not install on my laptop which is running windows 7 64 bit.  I have tried installing wilrelessly and with usb but nothing will work.   The printer wireless connections are all fine.  Test prints from laptop and printer all work, I just can't install the software drivers completely,  I can add printers ip address or name but it just goes back to same page.
I reciently moved house and before it was working. I can even print via iphone but not from laptop

  • Hp photosmart 5515 blue won't work...

    Hi,
For the past 4 HOURS, I have been trying to print my **bleep** pages in colour. Everything works EXCEPT blue. I have replaced it with 4 new cartridges, thinking it was my ink. It's not. I have now wasted 4 hours of my time, around 100 sheets of paper, and unncessarily opened 4 new ink cartridges. All of the ink levels say it's full.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem, or am I  buying a new printer?
    This question was solved.

    > fixed it at last, after 9 hours [...] switched the yellow cartridge with the blue cartridge,
    > switched the slots, then switched the slots again back to normal, then it started working.
Cannot do that with the wider black (K) cartridge (see also hp photosmart 5515 will not print black), but since the chips are just glued on, these may be lifted with a blade and flipped (while your trick did work when there was a similar problem between C/Y/M colors).
Albeit to no avail this time around, after power-cycling and the "Semi-full reset" (most comprehensive available from the Support menu one can get into by pressing right arrow, then where Home and Back icons have just lit up, repeatedly hitting the touchscreen in alternating succession) and even the "OOBE reset" ("Out Of Box Experience", from the Engineering menu) changed nothing at all.
41/43-Tap Report (Pen_tij4_new) -including the fact that it does print in the first place- confirms both Black and Color print heads are working and dismantling and rinsing by JayW's procedure is unlikely to change what is probably not due to a clogged print head anyway:
This has the hallmarks of a firmware issue (as preacheral has suspected before) blocking use of a cartridge that is actually available (maybe some overzealous anti-counterfeiting measure turning against the original?).
Will not try any further resets (e.g. NVRAM?) unless so directed by HP, whose help in figuring out a solution seems much needed by many though (cf. reviews of ASIN B006RSNXLM on Amazon, permeated by reports of buyers replacing spares only to find their printer's first cartridge has also become its last).
An HP user for decades, sadly with the PhotoSmart 5515 lately I must have spent more ink (and certainly time) on trying to print cleaning, calibration & diagnostic pages than actual documents.

  • Photosmart 5515 web services

    Hello,
Just after buying a HP Photosmart 5515 printer. Setup went well, except I cannot enable web services. I tried several times and same message - server connection error. Any help/suggestion will be much appreciate.
    Thanks,
    Dan

I would power cycle the router and the printer together by first turning off the router(usually have to unplug it), then power off the printer. Then turn router back on and wait for it to come back on fully and then turn printer on and wait for the calibration to finish. At that point try to enable web services again. If that fails you can set a static IP address and DNS on the embedded web server. Message back if you are still having a problem.

  • No apps available for my new HP Photosmart 5515?

Hi, I'm trying to make a full use of my new Photosmart 5515 All-in-one. I got everything working - from wireless printing and scanning from the computer to AirPrint from my iPhone.
My problem is I don't have any apps listed in the ePrintcenter as available for my printer. I tried changing the country of residence to US, UK, Germany or France to see if that helps - but still nothing.
I checked for software updates for the printer - says everything is up-to-date. So basically, I ran out of options.
Any suggestions where the issue might lie?
P.S. My printer is 5515 but it's listed under Windows and under the ePrintCenter as 5510d, I hope that's alright.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Thank you for your suggestion but unfortunately, it didn't work.
I followed the steps exactly TWICE:
    - Removed Web services (just in case)
    - Reset to Factory defaults
    - Turned printer OFF then ON.
    - Setup Wireless connection
-Print a wireless connection report (everything excellent)
    - Enable web services
    - Print out a printer code page (both times printer had issues connecting to server to fetch the page so there were numerous attempts until I got through)
    - Register the printer on the ePrint center
So I tried these steps twice and I still don't have access to any apps on the printer front panel and online at the ePrint center.
One odd thing I did found now that I tinkered more with it is that right after I power on the printer, when the front panel menu has already loaded, but the wireless still hasn't connected to my router... right in this very moment, if I click on the Apps icon, it gives out a warning that I need an Internet access and ONLY THEN it shows me one preinstalled printer app called QuickForms. And I can use that.
But as soon as the printer connects wirelessly, any further attempts to access Apps gets me only the GET MORE icon. Do you think I might have some sort of an internet provider block that keeps from accessing the apps?

  • HP Photosmart 5515 all-in-one not detected by HP software, driver not found by Windows Update

    Hi,
I have Windows 7 64 bits and an HP Photosmart 5515.
I had to reformat my PC, and when I tried to install the printer, Windows Update recognized it, but couldn't find the appropriate drivers, while the HP software didn't find the printer, neither with the IP address nor the Hostname.
The printer is connected to the network, and is working perfectly (we are able to print on my wife's computer), but on mine it's not possible to connect it.
I've tried both the Full Feature Software Package:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-108875-3&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...

  • Photosmart 5515 carriage jamming. Grating noise when switched on

When I switch on my Photosmart 5515 the carriage moves over to the right as usual trhen a loud noise of slipping cogs occurs and the carriage jams.
What appears to be happening is that the little doofus that wipes the printhead moves forward as it should but whatever should be telling it that it's gone far enough doesn't seem to be doing so.
I can't see any sensor at the front so I assume it must be under the back where the motors are.
I'd rather not take it apart any further unless I have to. There a lot of precarious looking springs and things under there and I reckon my chances of getting them back on are remote if I dislodge them
Has anyone seen this problem who could tell me what the likely cause is?

Hello Jerakeen, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are getting jams and grinding noises in the carriage path.  I would like to try and help.
I would first suggest performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also recommend following the steps in this document on a 'Carriage Jam' Message Displays on the Control Panel.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!
