Printer Icon not in dock when printing - cannot access queue

Suddenly no printer icon is in the dock when printing.
In case of an error, I cannot access the problem.
I cannot access the queue.
What's more: the printer just printed an image - but not the image that I commanded to print.
It was the image that I printed a week ago - he just printed it again.
I cannot find the printer utility in "scan and print".
How can I make the printer utility appear?

Problem solved.
Suddenly the button "printer cue" was there - which was absent until now.
I dragged the print queue window to the dock, and to make sure it stays there I added it through "keep in dock" to the dock.

  • Printer icon not in dock when printing

Since upgrading to Moutain Lion my printer icon had disappeared from the dock during printing. Previously it would show in dock when I was printing, Now nothing. Still able to print without issue and can see queue by going into System preferences. Do not see a place to make it appea again? Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance

I should have mentioned that I already tried removing then adding the printer with no success. I see the printer under system preferences and it is printing normally. Just have no icon appearing in dock when in process of actually printing a page. So since I attach to it wirelessly, I am always concerned it is not printing when I want to. So it means I have to open up System preferences>Printer Queue to make sure it is printing. Would love to get the automatic icon in the dock back in place

  • Icon still in dock when print job has finished

I am printing successfully to a Brother HL2700 Color Laser over a network. Can do this with Bonjour and also IP Printing. When my print job finishes the generic printer icon stays in the dock with the active triangle underneath it. This is not mission critical, but it is VERY annoying! I didn't need to install any drivers from the Brother site as the printer was automatically added. Could this be a driver issue?
Any ideas on a fix - short of resetting the print setup. I'm not sure this would resolve it, and I don't want to lose the other correctly configured printers - all of which demonstrate the same behaviour.
My MacBook Pro is brand new and has demonstrated this from the day the printers were first added.
Similar reports from Googling the net (some frome way back in 10.3), but couldn't find a fix or an explanation.
    Thanks for any input...

You should be able to use prnjobs.vbs
    Remarks
This command starts a script that is located in the systemroot\system32 directory. You must type this command at a command prompt with that directory as the current directory, or you must type the full path to that directory at the beginning of the cscript command.
To display a list of print jobs and their ID numbers, use this command with the -l parameter.
If the information that you supply contains spaces, use quotation marks around the text (for example, "Computer Name").
To list the print jobs in a print queue
    Top of page
    Syntax
    cscript prnjobs -l [-s RemoteComputer] [-p PrinterName] [-u UserName -w Password]
    Top of page
    Parameters
-l : Required. Specifies that you want to list all the print jobs in a print queue.
-s RemoteComputer : Specifies, by name, the remote computer that hosts the print queue whose jobs you want to list. If you do not specify a computer, the local computer is used.
-p PrinterName : Specifies, by name, the printer whose print queue contains the jobs you want to list. If you do not specify a printer, then all jobs in all print queues are listed.
-u UserName -w Password : Specifies an account with permissions to connect by using Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) services to the computer that hosts the print queue whose jobs you want to list. All members of the Administrators group for that computer have these permissions, but the permissions can also be granted to other users. If you do not specify an account, you must be logged on under an account with these permissions for the command to work. For more information on WMI, see Related Topics.

  • Printer icon stays in dock even with auto quit enabled

The printer icon remains in the dock when printing is finished, even with the auto quit option checked.
I am using an HP deskjet 5650. This behavior has only recently started. How do I make the icon go away automatically? I've checked and unchecked the option and have restarted - nothing seems to make a difference.

This problem has been bugging me since last year when I got my MacBook with Leopard pre-installed. I kept waiting and waiting for Apple to fix this "bug" with various updates but they never did. Finally, a Discussions member named pcmike provided the answer in another thread (which has since been archived, and thus I'm not replying in that thread).
pcmike's solution worked for me and is a lot easier than resetting the printing system and re-adding printers as has been suggested in this and other threads.
The solution is to not have the printer queue set to show completed print jobs. If the printer queue is set to show completed jobs when print jobs are finished, then the queue can't "auto quit" because the user would not see the list of those jobs. In other words, the printer queue stays open because it's "waiting" to show the user the list of completed jobs. Thus, it can't quit.
In my printer queue, I went to the Jobs menu and selected Hide Completed Jobs. Once I did this, the queue quit and the printer icon disappeared from the Dock just as I expected.
This solution seems obvious to me now, but it never occurred to me why the printer icon would not go away. I realize now that this wasn't a bug after all. Thanks, pcmike!

Well I have always had a printer icon in the Dock, launched or not launched (as in the screen shot below,) right next to the scan icon. Neither of which are launched at the present time.

  • Printer icon appearance on dock

I just converted from PC to iMac. Is there a way for me to have a printer icon show in my dock? Now when I want to scan a document I must open system preferences & click on scan. I'm looking for a shortcut.
    Thanks.

You don't need a printer icon on the Dock. To print the simple command from any app is Command P or if you want to use the mouse it's under the File menu just like a PC. However to scan, all Macs come with an app called Image Capture (look in the Applications folder) and you can simple drag that to the Dock and launch Image Capture that way. Another shortcut is to click Command Spacebar (this opens Spotlight) and type Image Capture or the name of any app or file you want to open.

  • Address Book "Note" is truncated when printing and syncing

I just upgraded to 10.5.2 and this is still a problem: The "note" section of a contact in the Address Book is truncated when syncing to my iTouch (and I've heard the same problem for the iPhone). I haven't run into a limit to the amount of text you can type in a Contact's note section on the Mac. I have some Contacts with rather lengthy notes. But when printing a Contact (and checking the box for the Note to be included) it prints a long note in two narrow columns on one page and if the note won't fit on one page, it truncates it. Even less of the note gets sync'd to the iTouch. If this isn't fixed soon, I'm going to go back to Outlook and my Axim pda. I gotta have my Notes!

Address works with Phonetic Name. Doesn't like the Name only for some reason.
    Solved!

  • How to stop printer icon staying in dock everytime i print

    hi all
basically i want to know to stop how to stop printer icon staying in dock everytime i print
whenever i print it stays there, and doesnt disspear everytime automatically

When you print your next document, right click or control click on the printer icon in the Dock. This will provide you with a menu of options. One of them is Auto Quit. Select it. Quit the printer queue and then print another document. The printer "app" will now quit after a successful print.
    Hope this helps.

  • Printer will not copy but will print from the computer

Hp Photosmart D110 all in one printer--I am totally disgusted with this printer...have had it a few months.  It will only get about 160 economy pages per ink cartridge which is ridiculous.  So we bought an ink refill kit and just refilled and reinstalled the black ink cartridge.  it is printing from the computer just fine but the printer WILL NOT COPY.  When I use the tool box and check ink levels it just shows question marks on both ink cartridges.
I spent 45 minutes on HP Chat Support and got no answers except that I need to use genuine HP Cartridges. They could not explain to me why the printer would print but not copy with refilled cartridge.
Any help from any of you regarding the NOT copying and the ink cartridges.....thanks so much

Did you ever get it to copy? I have the same problem
