Printer is connected. How to get rid of installation window upon boot-up?

I have an Officejet 4500; successfully connected to desktop (Windows Ultimate Vista OP). However, had a problem when connecting to laptop (Windows XP). When getting to configuration step, had a fatal error.  Folllowing instructions in auto-dowloaded "HP Installation Error - XP" application, subsequently, downloaded drivers, utlities, etc.  Finally was able to print off of laptop. However, everytime I boot up computer now, an installation window auto-appears with a Fatal Error message, then it runs through all the installation steps again, stalls at the configuration step, then I have to click a Finish button to  finish an "uninstall" (which it does not do, the printer is still installed).  So, to continue using the computer, I have to click the Cancel button in the middle of the "install" operation, use the computer for other things I need to do, then I can't shut down until it completes its "Uninstall" process again.  The printer is connected...HOW do I get rid of the install window that auto-appears when I boot up? (There is NO "Close" button or icon.)

I would get free EasyFind (Spotlight will be a total waste of time), and search for caremefile and caremefile.info. If it comes up with anything, right-click and select move to trash, or just destroy. Since you didn't install anything, shouldn't be necessary to authenticate with the admin password before it will move to trash. Could also click on reveal in finder, which will allow you to see the actual location. Set it up as per the screenshot below.

  • How to get Safari to open window upon launch?

I have my user login items set to launch Mail and Safari upon boot.  All is well with Mail.  However, now when I boot and Safari luanches it does not open a new window like it used to do, but simply shows in the Dock as launched.  I then have to click on it to open its homepage window.  It used to open the homepage window upon boot/launch.  How do I get this back?  Thanks!

Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the Desktop.
    Restart your Mac.
If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash. If not, move it back to the Preferences folder.
~ (Tilde) character represents your Home folder.

  • How to get rid of "mobilme" window?

Every time I start iWeb, I get a box pop up asking me to "try MobileMe" for free. How can I turn this off? There doesn't seem to be anything in the preferences to get rid of it. After having paid for the software, it's annoying to have an "ad" pop up every time I use it, with no clear way of telling it I don't wish to see it any more.
How do I get rid of it?

There's two ways you can try getting rid of that popup box:
    1 - get a MME account.
    2 - try the following:
Go to your Library / Preferences
Open com.apple.iWeb.plist and set the value of dismissDotMacUpsellWindow to true (checkbox checked). You can use the freeware Pref Setter to edit the iWeb preference file.

  • How  to get rid of reopen window box on shutdown

I want to have my Mac default to not opening windows previously opened and I want to get rid of the anoying default "reopen windows" box when I shut down. How do I do this?

A permanent replacement for the "Reopen windows when logging back in" checkbox is as follows:
    1. Close all apps you don't want to open at startup.
    2. Open your user Library folder. It is normally invisible, so press the Option key while selecting the "Go" menu in the Finder then select "Library" to open it.
    3. Use the Get Info dialog "Locked" checkbox to lock this plist:
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.loginwindow.*.plist
where "~" is your home folder and "*" is a sequence of characters (12 in my case). No need to lock the corresponding lockfile.
This plist is where the System stores "reopen windows" info, so the System can't change/delete it if it is locked. This won't change the "Reopen windows..." checkbox setting, but that setting will no longer have any effect.

  • How to get rid of installation alert sign on mac?

    Hi,
I have a really annoying Installation alert on my mac book pro.
Hot do I get rid of it?
    Thanks

    D

Also note that if you have multiple users logged in and another user has the applications open that the installation alert is referencing then A)that may cause the alert in your account and B)quitting those applications in the other users account may remove the alert. In my situation my wife and I use the same laptop but have separate user accounts and I found that when I got one of these alerts, logged in to her account and quit the relevant apps, then logged back in to my account the alert was gone.

  • How to get rid of installation alert sign on iMac

I have an "Installation Alert" box that I can't get rid of after trying to download a new version of ITunes.
My wife and I share an IMAC however I've exited all programs on both of our login's and tried the suggested accessing of ITunes helper and exiting it both via the red x and the "quit" command at the bottom of the window.
    Help!

    Hi jimh_CHA,
It sounds like there is some process running which is not allowing you to run the installer for iTunes. In order to make sure that this process is not running I would suggest restarting the iMac into Safe Mode, which disables non-essential processes. Follow the directions in this article to do so -

  • Printing Docs - how to get rid of 3 inch wasted space on right side of page

I tried to print out : Communicating With Objects
    http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/CocoaFunda mentals/CommunicatingWithObjects/CommunicateWithObjects.html
After trying several different settings and printed only the first page until I got the print more or less the way I wanted it, however...
I have a standard HP Color Laserjet 2600n, looked at all the printing preferences, and all four margins are set at (.25 inch), yet when the pages print out there are about 2.5 inches of wasted space on the left side. The space is there for the Table of Contents, but there is nothing printed there, the space is blank.
So I clicked on the Table of Contents header, so the TOC became hidden and the window only contained the text and images, then when I tried to print, I found that now there were about 3 inches of white space on each page on the right hand side. This is somewhere around a 40% waste in paper, trees, etc.
One would think that expensive as printing is, there would be a way to save paper by optimizing coverage on each page as much as possible.
Another curious thing is that the size of the text on the screen is easy to read at Safari normal (default) settings, yet when the first page is printed the text is really small.
In order to get the size of the print on the paper to be easily readable, I had to click on the large [a][A] at the top of the Safari window twice (+ 2 sizes). The text on the window was fairly large, but the print became easy to read. There was still an excessive amount of wasted space, which just goes against the grain...
Does anybody have a clue how to get rid of all the wasted space on each page ? There has to a simple way, this is 2010 and we've been doing this for 25+ years now.
I am sure it is something simple that I am overlooking ? I'd be grateful for any help.
    Thank You,
    Bill Hernandez

What browser are you using? Try downloading a PDF if one is available, or try printing from XCode's Deveoper Documentation window.

  • A friend gave me an older Nano 3rd generation. Can anyone tell me how to delete what is on there and how to get rid of his name. It does not connect to my itunes. I cannot even find the source or the place to restore it as suggested in the owners manual.

I have a 3rd generation ipod that a friend gave me. I cannot find anything on how to get rid of his name and music on it. This is what the owners manual says:
"Select ipod nano in the soiurce list and click the summary tab" I cannot find the source or the summary tab on itunes. Can any one help me? I would like to delete everything on it and start over but I am afraid I cannot add anything back on it. I know this is detailed and a lot, but I really need help.

    Restore
Note: Because Restore erases all of the songs and files on iPod, make sure toback up any files you've saved on the iPod disk. All of your songs, videos, podcasts, audiobooks, and games can be loaded back to your iPod provided that you have them stored in your iTunes Library.
How to restore your iPod:For Windows:
    1. Make sure you've reinstalled the latest version of iTunes.
    2. Open iTunes, and then connect your iPod to your computer.
    3. After a few moments, it will appear in the source list in iTunes. If the iPod's display doesn't show "Connected" or "Do not disconnect" you may need to put the iPod into disk mode to proceed.
    4. Select your iPod in the source list and you will see information about it appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes windows.
    5. Click the Restore button. You will be prompted with one or more restore options that may prompt iTunes to automatically download of the latest iPod Software. The 4 possible restore options are:
Restore Option 1: Restore - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod.
Restore Option 2: Use Same Version - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod even though a newer version is available.
Restore Option 3: Use Newest Version - Restores with the latest iPod Software on your computer.
Restore Option 4: Restore and Update - Restores with the latest iPod Software on your computer.
    6. A progress bar will appear on the computer screen indicating that the first stage of the restore process has started. When this stage is completed, iTunes will instruct you to leave iPod connected to your computer to complete restore.
    7. During the stage 2 of the restore process, the iPod will show an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remains connected to the computer or iPod Power adapter during this stage. Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see since the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
    8. After stage 2 of the restore process is complete and the iPod is connected to the computer, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear asking you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences similar to when you connected your iPod for the first time.
    For Mac:

Restore Option 3: Use Newest Version - Restores with latest iPod Software version on your computer.
Restore Option 4: Restore and Update - Restores with latest iPod Software version on your computer.
    6. A message will appear prompting you to enter an administrator's name and password.
    7. A progress bar will appear on the computer screen indicating that the first stage of the restore process has started. When this stage is completed, iTunes will instruct you to leave iPod connected to your computer to complete restore.
    8. During the stage 2 of the restore process, the iPod will show an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. There is screen information of Airplay popping up on the screen every second minute. It's stating: 1. Network Configuration: Connect to wifi network 2. Choose this Apple TV. However wifi is already connected and this apple tv has been chosen. How do I get rid of this window as everything is working already fine and everything is connected. Airplay and wifi are working already.

Had this happen to me after a recent update, was super annoying.  To turn off, go to Settings > AirPlay > Conference Room Display > Off.
