Printer jobs won't restart

Hi there, I'm hoping someone might be able to help me out with a printing problem I'm having.
I have a 1.42ghz PPC mac mini running ver 10.3.9, my printer is an Epson R200.
The computer has suddenly developed a fault whereby printing to this printer is not possible, as any time you send a document to the printer the icon with the exclamation point appears in the dock and it says that the printer job queue is stopped. If you click on the button to re-start the jobs, a message comes up for a few seconds saying "opening printer connection" After a few seconds this dissappears and the jobs remain stopped.
I have tried repairing/verifying permissions , this did not appear to have any effect. I tried deleting the printer and re-installing it, again with no luck.
I also downloaded an application called printer setup repair, which allowed me to restore OS X's printing system. This actually seemed to fix the problem, however after printing 2 documents the problem re-surfaced.
I have ruled out there being any hardware problem with the printer, as I can print perfectly from my powerbook. In fact, the only way I can print to the R200 from the mac mini is by using my powerbook with printer sharing turned on.
If anybody has any suggestions on how to fix the problem, any input would be most gratefully received.
Gordo.

Hello Gordon,
First of all, welcome to the Apple discussions.
`I tried deleting the printer and re-installing it, again with no luck.
What are you meaning with I TRIED DELETING THE PRINTER??
On the in-stall CD that came with your printer is a un-installer, you have to use that to get rid of ALL drives. After you finish re-install the printer.
When you do so unplug everything that is connected to the computer to the printer. Shut down the printer, when everything is back on an plugged in than press the power button on the printer.
Let me know if so ...
Discussions is a ongoing process. Hope to see you around anytime you need us, or can offer help to others.

  • HP 1522nf printing job won't start

    Hi:
I have the HP 1522nf. I always leave the printer power on. Sometimes like once a month, the printer job will not start. I can still go into the printer setting website. (192.168.1.x) But whenever I print, the transfer will stuck at about 68.2kb, and just won't print anything. I have a restart the printer, and then everything is back to normal. I also tried to unplug the printer's network, it will print out eventually just right after I unplug it. And then print out a error message saying "syntax error" offending command: --nostringval--. What's the problem here?
    I have the newest firmware.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
From the Desktop, hold down the Windows key and press R.  Into the Run window, type services.msc and hit enter.
Browse down to the print spooler service, right click it and select Properties then click on the Stop button.
Now browse to C:\Windows\System32\Spool\PRINTERS and delete the job inside this folder - You may need to click a prompt to gain the appropriate authority to open the PRINTERS folder.
Restart the computer and you should find the job has been removed.

  • Print job won't delete on my 8600

I have a print job in my que that is stuck in delete mode.  I did change print cartridges halfway through that print job, though I am pretty sure it did get finished the other day.

I have a Dell C3760dn printer set up as a network printer on my server. 2003. There is a print job that will not delete. Two questions:1) short of uninstalling and reinstalling this printer, how do I get the document to delete? I've gone into the control panel, Devices & Printers, found thenetwork printer, right clicked, cancel all documents. Didn't delete.I have stopped, restarted the print spooler, there's nothing in the Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS file. I've tried deleting the document in the queue directly from my server and from the end user that generated the print job. I've turned off the printer, restarted print spooler, tried to delete the document...nothing.I have tried everything and it just will not delete. I don't want to have to uninstall and reinstall this printer every time a doc from this one user hangs up. Is...

  • Print Jobs won't start

After several years of trouble-free printing from my Blue Dalmation iMac to a HP Deskjet 630 printer, it's all suddenly gone wrong.
Recently I zapped my PRAM and ever since I've been unable to get the Print Jobs to start. Every time I click 'Start Jobs' it immediately goes back to 'Print Jobs Stopped' and nothing will print.
I went into the Printer Setup Utility, hit Reset Printing System and tried to add the HP printer again. But when I do that I get "Error:-9672".
Someone please help! I can't print anything at the moment and I'm in a right old stew without a printer!

    Hi again!
Right - I've sorted out the repairing permissions problem (I had indeed accidentally trashed the BaseSystem.pkg - I replaced it from my laptop and all is fine).
Having done that I repaired permissions, rebooted both my Mac and the printer...
But I still get exactly the same error message when trying to add the printer.
Could this be something to do with HP Printers and the latest OSX Security Update? I've noticed a couple of HP printer users further down this part of the forum seem to have had the same problem.

  • Print jobs won't stop printing...ever.

Since upgrading to Leopard, I've got a problem with an old HP PSC 750 where the print queue seems to generate unlimited copies of one print job. I printed a three page document and went and made coffee and came back to what seemed to be +War and Peace+ in the output tray.
I'm not sure I want to download a driver that's not been updated in a couple years, but I don't want to abandon this printer, which, although problematic over the years, is a cheap workhorse. I've not seen a lot of discussion of this problem on the web, is anybody familiar with this? Thanks in advance...

I found the solution on this site : http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/59912-29-1022n-printer-stop-printing
You just have to uncheck the chekbox "Enable two-way communication" on the "Ports" tab of the printer properties and it works normally again !!!!

  • Print jobs won't automatically drop from the print queue after printing

I just bought an Envy 7640.  When printing multiple documents, the first print job hangs in the queue after it prints, which prevents subsequent jobs from printing.  The first job continues to show a status of Printing after it prints the job.  I have to manually go into the queue and cancel the finished job before the next job in the queue will print. Having to clear the queue manually each time a print job finishes is not an acceptable fix to the problem.  How can I get the printer to automatically delete the print job after it prints like it's supposed to do?

Thank you for your reply.  The steps that you sent are for print jobs that you cannot delete from the queue.  I also found those instructions earlier, however, it doesn't apply to the problem I'm having with my printer. I don't have a problem deleting print jobs from the queue.  As my previous post stated, when I print multiple documents, the first document prints but it stays in the queue with a status of Printing.  Because it stays in the queue with the Printing status, it prevents the second and subsequent documents from printing. My problem is that I have to go to the queue after every single job prints and delete it from the queue to allow the next document to print.  It's ridiculous to have to delete every job from the queue after it prints.  The printer should automatically delete the job after it prints it, and then print the next job in the queue. How can I make the printer delete a job automatically after it prints it??  Can you please give me a resolution to this problem? Thank you.

  • Print jobs won't collate with quarkxpress 6.1

Recently upgraded to imac running mac os x 10.4.4 and it will not collate, when printing multiple docs in quarkxpress 6.1. I have most recently updated ppd and have tried all different printing protocols. Does anyone know what this might be about? It collates when printing through other programs, but not quark! Any help would be much appreciated.

The information about your print server from the dlink site are as follows:
    "Product Features:
    • Version 1.1 USB Port for Connection to USB Printer
    • Includes Windows-based Administrative Program"
The link you referenced was for a connection to a Mac OS X Server with 10.5 server software.
    That is not your setup.
    - Make sure the printer does not need USB 2.0
    - You must have had a Windows based computer to set it up originally.
    - The server may need to be configured for the printer - which means you need a windows machine to configure it and you likely will need to install the drivers on the windows computer.
    - If you did not need a printer driver for the previous printer then the print server must have been configured with the driver and it is unlikely you need to install a driver with Leopard.
    - You likely will only have to choose the shared printer from the shared printer section of the Print window, once the print server is configured with the new drivers.

  • How to cancel print job?

My HP 1200 won't stop printing.  It started printing gobbydygook - 1 line a page - and it won't stop.  The document has been deleted on my computer, and the printer ran out of paper.  Two weeks later, when I add paper, it starts over again.  I unplugged it, and replugged it and it still wants to print this.  What do I do?

Make sure the document is really deleted in the print queue.  You did not say what operating system, I'll assume some Windows.
Start > Control Panel > Printers.  Double-click the printer, select File > Cancel all print jobs.
    Now, restart your PC.
Finally, turn off the printer, unplug power from the back of the printer (not the wall), wait 30 seconds and plug back in and turn on.

  • Print Jobs are Stuck in the Print Queue

This has been going on for way too long.  It's been happening with Windows 7. It happens with HP Laser jet 500 Pro color Printer.
Print jobs won't print; but, when you try to delete the print job, it just stays there.    Cancel
    does nothing.  Delete
    does nothing.    Stopping
the spool via services does nothing. Powering
off the printer then re-powering does nothing.  Rebooting
does nothing.    After everything...still...."1 document pending".   It won't go away.  The only way to fix it is to
delete the printer and re-install.   This is getting really flipping' old!
I have tried print spooler services stop and start. after that its works but some printing
its stuck again. very fedup about it.  i am using Microsoft windows original software. please help me out on it.

  • Can't clear a .ppt print job on an OfficeJet Pro L7680, attached to a Lenovo PC w Win7 32-bit

I was printing a .ppt print job that aborted and didn't complete.  I tried to delete the print job. I tried to reset the printer.  I turned the printer off/on.  I took the printer offline/online.  The print job won't clear and although I can submit new print jobs, the printer can't print anything else (because of the .ppt job that can't be cleared).   I was using the HP Solutions Center (HP print utility on my laptop)) and Windows print tools.  Any thoughts on what I can do to clear this print job?

Delete the printer in Control Panel as it appears it is hung up (if there is more than one instance of it, delete them all).
Next, re-add the printer in this manner:
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Devices & Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.

I cannot cancel print job or restart, so I cannot print new job. How do I clear this off?

    Hi,
From the Control Panel, open Administrative Tools and select Sevices.  Browse down to the print spooler service, right click it and select Properties then click on the Stop button.  Now browse to C:\Windows\System32\Spool\PRINTERS and delete the job inside this folder - You may need to click a prompt to gain the appropriate authority to open the PRINTERS folder.
Restart the computer and you should find the document(s) have been removed.

  • Since installing Mavericks, my HP Printer adds an extra page to every print job, and iCal won't synch via iTunes with the Calendar on my iPhone 4s. Can Mavericks be uninstalled?

Can Mavericks be uninstalled? Don't know if the discussion title pulled in all of my problem, so here it is again. Since installing Mavericks, my HP Printer adds an extra page to every print job, and iCal won't synch via iTunes with the Calendar on my iPhone 4s.
And no, I was a bad boy and had not been Time Machining. Guess I will now.
    So, can Mavericks be uninstalled?

Uninstall CleanMyMac2 >  How To Uninstall CleanMyMac
Uninstall Cocktail > Uninstall Cocktail for Mac OS X
Third party cleaning utilities are not necessary on a Mac and can only cause problems.
Your Mac runs maintenance in the background for you >  Mac OS X: About background maintenance tasks
Growl is un necessary and can slow  the system down > Growl - Removing Growl
If you want to monitor the system, use the pre installed Activity Monitor app located in HD > Applications > Utilities
    Then restart your Mac.

  • Initial Print jobs 'communication error with device'. Pause and restart job

So, I have an odd variant of the Leopard print problem; on 3 separate systems.
When I print to an HP Photosmart C7180, which setup fine, which I can scan to fine, the print job throws an error :error communicating with device, switch on and off' and so forth. It does that from any app, and consistently. I am printing via bonjour, the printer is networked, but on a static IP.
To fix this EVERY-TIME I PAUSE printer, then start printer again. It immediately starts working, consistently until I sleep, log out, or don't print for a while.
This seems to be some timeout issue or such. I tried IP printing, but no difference.
Resetting the print system also did not help.
It's not catastrophic but sooo annoying. Any input appreciated!
    Thx,
    Dan

Hello SunnygirlQ. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Unfortunately, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations. In addition, the AirPort's USB port does not support the "advanced" printer functions, like scanning, copying or faxing, of multi-function printers.
To see if your printer is compatible, take a look at this iFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility link.
If your printer isn't listed, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.
Also you can try this Apple Tech Support article to see if it will help:
o Printer troubleshooting for AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express
I assume that this printer works just fine when it is connected directly to your Mac ... correct? If so, has it worked when connected to the AX in the past ... or has it always had this problem? If it did work correctly before, did you do any updates, especially to the AX, recently?

  • Jobs show twice in print queue - won't delete and won't print

I have an HP Laserjet P1006 running on a HP laptop running Windows 7 64 bit.  Printer has worked fine for 8 months but recently ran into problems.
When I send a print job to it, the printer doesn't print.  If I open up the print queue, the job shows up twice.  If I try to delete the jobs, they don't delete.  I can use the HP Print Diagnostic Utility to get the jobs cleared out of the queue, but the same thing happens the next time I try to print something.
A Few Other Items to Note:
    - I don't get any error lights on the printer.
    - I brought home a laptop from home running XP and installed the printer using the CD.  The printer worked fine with that computer, so I don't think it's a problem with the printer hardware.
    - I have tried uninstalling the printer, both using the CD that came with it and with the latest drivers/software from the website.  Didn't do anything (same problem occurs when printing a test page).
    - HP Print Diagnostic Utility doesn't find anything wrong.  Likewise, if I right click on the printer and click Troubleshoot, that doesn't help either.
    - I've tried restarting the print spooler, but that didn't do anything.

Hard Reset – While printer is powered ON, pull the power cord from the printer then from the wall. After 30 seconds reconnect power to wall and printer. This will trigger a ‘dirty power up’ and restore the printer to a known good condition (if it is possible). No user settings are lost with a ‘hard reset’.
This ‘Hard Reset’ is one of the most powerful tools to use when the printer hardware is not functioning properly!
Although I am working on behalf of HP, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

  • Print job starts, stops on last page of job, then finally restarts.

Hello, I have an HP Office Jet Pro 8500 (A909), connected via router (ethernet cable). Windows 8, HP Pavillion machine, i5 processor, 64 bit, 6gigs ram
The print job starts, stops on last page of job, then finally restarts, then starts whole print job over with same results; pausing for about a minute, restarting and finishing job but the driver must detect that the job - still in the queue - is not done and starts again.
I've swapped ethernet cables with the same results. I can print over the wireless network with other computers and do not have this issue.
I thought it was a driver issue so I uninstalled/reinstalled HP software, with all available updates, same results.
The only work around at my disposal now, other than printing from another machine, is to wait for the last page to print and manually clear the queue so the job doesn't print again. Suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hey @DavidWW ,
Thank you for joining us on the HP Forums today, hope you enjoy your time with us! Also thank you for taking the time to thoroughly explain the issue, much appreciated.
I understand you are having an issue with the last page printing late, the computer not recognizing it, re-printing and so on. You need to print, wait for stall and then last page and then clear queue to stop the printer. That is truly annoying, however; I might have a fix for you in 1 simple post... maybe not, but maybe at least.
Try the tool I have posted below and run the print fix option.
Click here to download and run the Print and Scan Doctor >>> www.hp.com/go/tools
If that doesn't fix your issue make sure you let me know and we can continue.
