Printer keeps defaulting to Fax and Photo tray paper

Hi.The printer keeps defaulting to  FAX and the photo tray paper.  How do I correct this on windows Vista?

When you open an application's Print dialog you will see a drop down menu labeled Printe:. Select your printer from the list before clicking on the Print button.
In Print & Fax you can set whichever printing device as the Default by selecting it and clicking on the Default icon in the toolbar. You can also select it in the Print & Fax dialog.

If you manually manage the device the you can remove the content from the PC after you have put it on the device. However this isn't the recommended way. At some point you'll probably need to restore it which involves wiping all the data. If you don't have all this data to hand then you'll have to try to recover it from a now problematic device first. It's much easier to sync with your library - yes you have two copies, but that's not a waste, it is prudent. As long as you have two copies you can afford to lose one knowing you have a backup. In practice I keep a complete backup of my library, in addition to the subsets of it that I can put on my devices.

  • I am trying to change the Apple ID on my I phone and my Wife's I phone.  Is it possible to keep our contacts, calander, and photos by doing this?  We do not care about our music or apps.  Is this possible?

Photos should be copied to the computer and synced back via iTunes.  They are unrelated to the Apple ID unless you are using PhotoStream.
Depending on how the contacts are synced the the device, chaging the Apple ID may wipe them.
Why do you want to change the Apple ID?  If it's an email address change, simply change the email associated with the Apple ID.  Do NOT create a new Apple ID.

  • Other than screen shots, for printing purposes, I want text and photo on jpeg or .tiff formats? The printer only accepts jpeg and tiff and can't use screenshots.

  • HP Photosmart C5180 and Photo Tray

I just updated to Leopard and iPhoto 7.1 (ver 347) and now I can't seem to print from iPhoto to the photo tray on my printer. The photo tray typically uses 4x6 paper. No matter whether I try to print with 4 x 6 borderless or not borderless it tells me that size is out of the range of my printer and to change it to 10cm x 15cm. It looks like my 4x6 choice is now 10cm x 20cm.
Do I have to wait for an updated driver to be able to print from my photo tray again?

I figured it out. If you have HP All in one like my c6180. Go to HP website search your model i.e. c6180
Then download driver fix for OS X
This works. then hit print and then paper size or quality. select photo tray. etc.
see other posts on this topic.
But nothing works until you download new drivers for HP C6180
    Hope this helps. GB

  • C8180 On Off error msg and Photo Tray Error msg

I have a C8180 AIO printer with the two problems above. Upon turning the printer on the LCD announces that I should always use the on off button and not unplug it even tho It's always been plugged in.  After I press OK the photo paper tray msg states the tray is not pushed in all the way so I push the tray in to no effect. The printer recycles and displays the same  error msg again and again and again.
This is a show stopper. As long as this error msg is displayed I can't print.  I've seen these error msgs in the forums for other models in the 8100 series but I've never run aross a solution.  This printer was used with XP Sp3 and Vista.  However, the problems exist even when not connected to the PC in any way. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Removing all the cartridges, power cycling from the wall, and replacing them did the trick for my C6140. Great solution!!!
I feared I had broken it by using the main tray instead of the smaller photo tray for 4x6 paper, which resulted in grinding noises. As soon as the cartridges were removed, it was able to suck in and push back out the photo tray.

  • Do I need to keep all my music and photos on my pc after I sync them?

It appears I must first load all music and photos onto my pc, then sync them to my iPad or iPod. Ok. Now I have all this data in 2 places..the pc and the target device, which is a gross waste of pc space. Can I delete all these things from my pc after they've been synced to the target, or must they stay on the pc forever??? Can't I delete from my pc all that's been synced, then if I want to add 1 song just add that song to what's already on the target, or must I reload EVERYTHING all over again just to add 1 more song?

  • HP M551 Color Laser Printer keeps asking for password and I did not set one

I've had this printer for just a few months.  I installed it as a local printer (USB).  I did not install a password on it.  It will print sometimes, but much of the time it will not because it keeps wanting a password, and when I press the print button, the printer will go into a fault state.  Since it is a local printer, I do not want it password protected.  Any assistance would be appreciated

Perhaps you are inadvertently selecting 'Job Storage Mode - Personal Job' (or something like that), in the Print dialogue, when you generate your print requests?

  • Photo tray paper won't load. Paper tray empty message received

Photosmart Plus B210 - Error Message when sending photos to print by wireless 'Paper Tray empty' even though phototray fully loaded.
Printer about 6 months old and has performed ok up until now. Normal printing on A4 OK

    Any suggestions

Hard Reset – While printer is powered ON, pull
the power cord from the printer then from the
wall. After 30 seconds reconnect power to
wall and printer. This will trigger a ‘dirty power
up’ and restore the printer to a known good
condition (if it is possible). No user settings
are lost with a ‘hard reset’.
This ‘Hard Reset’ is one of the most powerful
tools to use when the printer hardware is not
    functioning properly!

  • Balky printer keeps jobs until que and prints one at a time when computer is turned off

6300 printer is holding jobs in a que (sometimes saying it is on "pause") but refusing to print after it is changed to "print".  Then suddenly prints one job after computer is put to sleep, sometimes as much as an hour later!  HELP!!!

    Hi catawba ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having some communication issues between the printer and the computer.
Seeing that HP has many models of printers with 6300 in the title, please respond with your printers Model Number:
How Do I Find My Model Number?
Once I get the printer information, I can then do that appropriate research.
    Cheers,

  • I have used a Seagate external hard drive for my Mac desktop. It is malfunctioning. Can I disconnect and depend on iCloud to keep my documents, music, and photos backed up safe and secure? I use the Cloud for phone, pad and desktop.

Can I expect iCloud to safely back up and secure my documents, music and pictures? I am using Cloud on phone, pad, and desktop. Have depended on external hard drive in the past. It is malfunctioning. Will the Cloud replace it for storage and safety?

Time Machine in itself, without an external drive may well be good for instances where you accidentally delete documents that you later require. However in the event of a hard drive failure, if Time Machine backup is kept on the same drive as the original items, it will not be much use to you.
In my opinion, it is vitally important that you have an external drive for backup, whether you use Time Machine or a another backup solution is entirely up to you.
My situation is slightly unusual, I have four hard drives in my computer and multiple arrays of hard drive enclosures with multiple hard drives within them (in total I have 40 TB of storage). As a result of this I tend to employ more than one backup procedure, I use Time Machine to backup some items and a utility called tri-backup to backup other items. I also keep two backups of everything.
Time Machine is free, it's included with your operating system, I wonder if you mean time capsule.

  • HP Officejet 6310xi won't print - keeps blinking "reset power" and all lights flashing.

I have an HP Officejet 6310xi that won't print.  When you select print, the paper begins to feed then suddenly stops before any printing begins and all lights on the face of the printer begin blinking and the message "RESET POWER" blinks in the screen readout of the printer.  When I turn printer off and back on, the screen indicates a used color cartridge is inserted and I hit OK, then indicates used black cartridge is inserted, then I hit OK, then it says it needs to align cartridges, I hit OK.  After trying to align cartridges, it suddenly stops and goes back to all lights flashing and screen flashing "RESET POWER".   I can hit cancel during cartridge alignment and printer goes to normal ready position.  I can then print a test page.  But as soon as I try to print anything else, even the diagnostics page, it goes back to flashing all lights and "RESET POWER".  I did a semi reset (unplug, wait, plug in holding #6) and a full reset (with #9).  That did nothing except wipe out the date on the screen read out of the printer.   So I know the full reset executed correctly but it did not solve my problem.  Please HELP! I am reposting with email me selected - I'm new at this posting to forums...

  • Aperture 3 Slideshow keeps defaulting to Black and White?

It seems every time I am moving photos around in the bottom panel of the slideshow all of the photos go black and white. I am holding command key, selecting multiple photos and moving them with track pad. I end up selecting all photos unchecking the black and white box and it seems OK until the next time I move a photo. Anyone seen this one yet?

No, it sounds like a software problem.
Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPhone?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds). No data will be lost.
If these don't work try using Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

  • Printer plugin - defaulting to adobe

I am trying to select different printer drivers to suit a Tallygenicom printer. When I choose other driver ... nothing changes.. i noticed in Finder that the plugin files where "adobe photoshop" what should they be?

    Hi @drodavis,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums! I see your HP Photosmart C309a keeps defaulting to the photo tray as opposed to the main tray, you went in and changed the default tray back to the main tray but it still pulls from the photo tray.
I want to make sure when you are selecting the main tray you are changing the settings for ALL print jobs and not just a single job. If you are changing the settings for a single print job this would be why it keeps defaulting back to the photo tray. Take a look below to get started and change the print settings for ALL jobs:
Changing the Print Settings in Windows
