Printer loads on 1 Mac but not another

I have a Lexmark x517 that will work great with my G4 TiPowerbook but not my G4 Quicksilver. The printer came with printer drivers on a CD which have been loaded onto both machines. Both are running OSX 10.4.8, so I don't get it.
When I open Printer Setup Utility on the Quicksilver and try to selct "add" it will act like the button was selected but then it won't do anything. I've tried to download every possible driver, etc. Nothing works. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall the printer on my compuer using the Lexmark utilities that worked on my laptop.
One day I was really frustrated with the fact it wouldn't work so I started trashing everything I could find on my compuer having to do with Lexmark and then I re-installed everything. It still won't work.
If anyone could help. . . that would be fabulous! Thanks in advance!
G4 Quicksilver   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Printer Setup Utility won't add printer

Paul, thank you so much for trying to help!
I tried the OS 10.4.8 update and that didn't work.
What's so weird is that my system profiler knows that a Lexmark 510 series printer is connected to the USB port. . . I just can't get the Setup Print Utility to add a printer.
Anyway. . . here's the print error log. Hopefully it tells you something. (cross my fingers!)
Thanks again so much!

  • Syncing iPhone with one Mac but not another

I have a home Mac and a work Mac.
I want the iPhone 3GS to sync with my home Mac, and it does so perfectly.
Sometimes I'm at work and I need to charge the phone, so I plug it into the work Mac, and it launches iTunes and attempts to sync with it (which, if I let it continue, would erase all my loaded stuff). I always stop it manually.
I see the option in iTunes checked for "Always sync the iPhone to this Mac" (or something like that). If I uncheck it, it fixes this, but next time I go home, the iPhone doesn't sync with the home phone because this option unchecks itself at home too!
So how do I make sure it syncs to the home Mac, but does not erase itself when plugged into the work Mac?

From the user guide, page 16, http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf
You may want to prevent iPhone from syncing automatically when you connect iPhone to a computer other than the one you usually sync with.
    1. Turn off automatic syncing for iPhone: Connect iPhone to your computer. In iTunes, select iPhone in the sidebar, then click the Summary tab. Deselect “Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected.” You can always sync by clicking the Sync button.
    2. Prevent automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods: In iTunes choose iTunes > Preferences (on a Mac) or Edit > Preferences (on a PC), click Devices, and select “Disable automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods. If this checkbox is selected, iPhone won’t sync automatically, even if “Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected” is selected in the Summary pane.
    3. Prevent automatic syncing one time, without changing settings: Open iTunes. Then, as you connect iPhone to your computer, press and hold Command-Option (on a Mac) or Shift-Control (on a PC) until you see iPhone appear in the sidebar."
I use option 3 without any problems.

  • IPod recognized by one Mac but not another

I have a fourth-generation iPod. My home computer, which has stopped recognizing my iPod, is a PowerPC G4 running 10.4.11. My work computer, which does recognize the iPod, is a 20-inch iMac (whose specs I don't recall). All software is up to date on both Macs, and I've tried resetting my iPod as well as putting it into Disk Mode to try to fix the problem at home. No dice.
The only thing I can think of that might have affected it is my recent problem with my home Mac's sleep function -- that being, simply, that my Mac doesn't go to sleep when I select it from the pull-down menu.
Could I have affected the iPod by putting my Mac to sleep while it was attached? I've done it many times before without any problems. Or, is there an improper way to wake up the Mac while it is sleeping? Could the iPod be thinking that my Mac is still asleep?
I've also noticed that my home Mac takes longer to boot up and shut down since these problems (iPod, sleep function) developed.
But, again, the iPod works fine with my work Mac.
Needless to say, I am flummoxed. Thanks much for any insight!

Do you use FireWire or USB to connect the iPod?
If USB, try disconnecting ALL of your peripheral devices including any hubs, except for a standard keyboard and mouse. Try the iPod connected directly to the Mac's USB port. Be sure to try more than one port.
If FireWire, make sure it is connected directly to the Mac's port instead of daisy chained to an external drive or connected to a FireWire hub. Try it on more than one port, since it is possible the port has become faulty. If you have another FireWire device, use it to make sure the port is OK.
If the Mac itself is running oddly, you need to start up from your Mac OS X installation disc (for the OS version you are using), and run Disk Utility from Installer's menu. Then run +Repair Disk+. If that completes with no errors or errors that are repaired, restart normally. Then run Disk Utility and use +Repair Disk Permissions+. Hopefully, those actions will fix the Mac.

  • Can see ATV on one Mac, but not another in a network..

Linksys 4 port router, Wap54G wireless, Mac Pro 10.4.9 wired to the router, MacBook Pro Wireless, ATV connected via wireless, 10.4.9
MacPro Itunes 7.1.1 (5) will not show the ATV period in devices. I go to my macbook pro, fire up ITunes 7.1.1 (5), connect via wireless, ATV shows up ready to be configured.
Both machines: firewall not on, check for appletv checked in both ITunes. ITunes on MacBook is "virgin", eg not associated with an ipod, just 4 little things in the library and not an authorized computer. MacPro libary well used, photos, audiobooks, videos, podcasts, purchased music, etc, eg a normal itunes world, authorized machine.
No internet sharing on either machine. MacPro has Windows sharing turned on. Other difference is that one is connecting to the net via wireless (Macbook PRO), the other one is wired, but just doesn't feel like this is the issue, but am stuck chasing it further. Ideas?

    Hi Techweenie,
Okay if the Mac Pro cannot see the Apple TV, and it is not listed in the sources menu of the Apple TV. You might try going to the sharing preferences on the Mac Pro and turn on internet sharing from the one ethernet port to the other, and then plug an ethernet cable into the Apple TV. The Apple TV should show in iTunes (assuming we have iTunes 7.1.1 in stalled). If it works and the firewalls are not on in the Mac Pro, then I would say it must be being blocked by the router.
If you do have both computers listed in the sources of the Apple TV, then it would seem that the MacBook Pro is synced and the Mac Pro is set for streaming.

  • Print Crash on Intel Macs but not on PPC Macs

I have two MacBooks exhibiting the same problem. When I try to print from nearly any application over the network, the application quits when I try to print. I restart the application and it usually prints. The printer I try to print to is an HP Deskjet 6540 that is shared from a G5. The G5 has no problems printing to the same printer; it never crashes. The log has been unhelpful -at least to me. I have already reset the printing system and manually installed the printers from scratch a couple of times to no avail. Any ideas would be apreciated!

    Hi there,
You may have a compatibility problem with PowerPC and Universal applications and drivers.
Your MacBooks are Intel-based. Most of the supplied applications are written in Universal Binary, meaning that they will work on Intel and PowerPC Mac's. But there are still a lot of applications and drivers that are written just for the PowerPC chip and to work on the Intel they have to use an emulator called Rosetta.
If the driver that is installed for the HP is PPC, then sometimes that can cause spooler errors, especially ones written in Universal. The workaround is to get a Universal version of the driver or to make the application run using Rosetta.
Now, given that the HP is shared by the G5, this may be causing the problem also. The HP driver on the G5 will be PPC and if you have added the printer on the MacBooks by just connecting to the share, then you may have PPC drivers installed instead of Universal but more of a problem is that you will have version differences. I have seen this cause the most amount of problems for shared printers.
Check HP's web site for the latest version of driver for the printer. If they have a Universal version, then download this and install it on all Mac's so that you are using the same version on all three. (You may find this driver is already installed on your MacBook's so if you can get the same version for your G5 that would help heaps).

    Paul

  • Wireless internet access works on one Mac, but not another

I have a Time Capsule connected via Ethernet to a Linksys ADSL2 gateway.
I have set up a wireless network on the TC, which both Macs (MBP and MB) can see and log on to.
The MacBook can get an internet connection wirelessly, the MBP can't.
The MBP does get an internet connection if connected to the TC via an ethernet cable
I have the connection assistant, but it get as far as asking for my airport password before giving up - I have entered the password correctly.
    Any suggestions?
The MBP is running 10.5, the MB 10.4

I have fixed the problem with a reinstall of OS X. Before that, i had tried trashing the keychain, repairing it an also deleting the wireless networks plist. No luck.
    Anyway, all OK now...

I can print from my Mac but not from my iPad ,any ideas?

you can read here about airprint
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
if the printer don't support that then you need to find a printing app in app store
which will act the role as printer driver for the device to speak with the printer

To add to Niel's comment bear in mind that if you have a backup copy on an external HD and later delete the orignals on your Mac HD you will then only have one copy - so no backup.
If the pictures are precious you should have at least two copies, and ideally another copy kept off site,

  • Map Widget - Works on Mac but not in Author

OK, I'm a nube when it comes to Dashcode just so that's out there. I managed to build a custom map widget with Google Maps. The widget works perfectly on my Macs but not in Author. In Author the default place holder remains empty. If I click "edit HTML" I get the Google map, but it's just a generic USA, not the one I created w/ places. Also iBooks refuses to import the book to my iPad until I delete this map.
Do I need to do something or insert special code in Dashcode to make this widget "Author compatible" or are map widgets not allowed?

jfk0404 - I believe that what you're referring to as the "unattractive cartoon-like figure in the widget" is actually the placeholder image for the widget as it appears inline on the page. Once you click that cartoon image the actual widget takes over full screen and loads the html content displaying a functional full size google map.
To replace the cartoon icon you have a few options. The first thing to do is create a new .png file to represent your widget as the placeholder image enticing your readers to click to open the full screen widget and load its dynamic contents. Perhaps a screen grab of your map would be a good idea?
    Easy:
Drag your brand new .png image from the Finder into your open source iBooks Author file dropping it on the cartoon image. Done.
    More Complex:
Right click (control-click) on the xxx.wdgt file that downloaded from http://classwidgets.com and choose "Show Package Contents." A Widget file is really just a special folder bundle with a .wdgt extension. In there you will find the Default.png file. Highlight the file and press the space bar to see a preview in the Finder's QuickLook feature. That's your cartoon image. Now replace that file with the one you created above. Done.

    Hi,
Apple's AirPrint only support specific models while using wired or wireless network connection.
Plugging a printer into a USB port of Apple base is not supported for AirPrint:
AirPrint printers connected to the USB port of the Apple AirPort Base Station or Time Capsules are not supported with AirPrint.
As well you must use AirPrint enabled printers for a such, none of your printers are AirPrint enabled:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
There are 3rd party solutions which allow sharing a printer connected to your Mac as AirPrint, Printopia as example provide a such:

  • Printer shared from my Mac is not seen from a PC using Bonjour for Windows

I am going nuts here, hope someone can help.
I have a Canon multi-function printer (MP830) attached via USB to a Mac G4 (with Mac OS X Tiger). At one time, I had it set so a Windows 2000 PC could print to it but deinstalled it after some printing issues, and have been unable to get to working again. The machines are connected together via a Netgear router. As far as I know, everything is the same as it was before, yet I cannot get it to work as it did.
    - The printer works fine from the Mac.
    - If I connect the printer to the PC, it works fine.
    - On the PC, using Bonjour for Windows, I cannot see the printer attached to the Mac but I can see, and print to, an Epson printer that is attached to a different Mac.
    - And from the second Mac, I am able to see -- but not successfully print to -- the Canon printer. The print job stays in the queue of the second Mac and says "Unable to connect to SAMBA host, will retry... Error: Connection failed with error."
    - I have tried:
-- de-installing and re-installing Bonjour for Windows and the Canon print drivers on the PC
-- and have de-installed and re-installed the Canon drivers on the Mac
-- I have removed and re-added the Canon printer on the Mac. Printer Sharing is on, and this printer is checked in the Sharing box.
    Any suggestions?

Thank you. Those are beautifully written procedures.
Looks like it's a network issue. I reach the step, "Adding a printer using the wizard":
You must enter the following URL, you must use the Queue Name you noted down earlier
    http://<IP address of Mac>:631/printers/Queue Name
    which I do, entering
    http://192.168.0.4:631/printers/MP830
and I get the following error:
"Could not connect to the printer. You either entered a printer name that was incorrect or the specified printer is no longer connected to the server."
    And then I am toast!
Using the other procedure, I simply don't see the Mac's printers in the Bonjour Wizard's "Browse for Bonjour Printers" window.
Not sure where to go from here -- any ideas?
The Mac's IP (set via DHCP) is 192.168.0.4, subnet mask 255.255.255.0. The PC is 192.168.0.5, I can't find the subnet mask.
Pretty sure it's a network config issue, especially isnce I can Bonjour to my other Mac.
    TIA...

It's probably because of the way the html that's calling the applet is coded, in conjunction with the vendor (Sun or MS) and version of the Plugin/JRE. This will help you ger started with diagnosis:

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
