Printer Migration

We currently have 2 standalone 2008 R2 print servers that have separate objects. We plan to consolidate
the objects on those servers onto one 2012 R2 print server. If we follow the steps here will
the objects still exist on the old print server after the migration?

Hi,
Since it is related to printer server, I moved it to this forum so that it can benefit  more forum members. Thanks for your understanding and support.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Printer Migration

    Hi Guys,
This is more of a reassurance than a question but i just want to be 100% sure.
I'm a second line engineer trying to gain exposure into third line and i have been given a small project to migrate some printers from a Windows Server 2008 machine to a Server 2008 R2 machine which is an already established priner server hosting 95% of
    our printers.
My (possibly silly) question is if i export the printers from the 2008 server can i import them onto the 2008 R2 server without overwriting whats already there.
I have seen printers migrated from scratch but i just wanted to make sure i can add the to whats allready there,
All the drivers x64 and x86 are already in place.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Sorry for my delay.
Based on your description, did you mean that migrate Print Servers from Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server
    2008 R2?
You can use the Printer Migration Wizard or the Printbrm.exe command-line tool to export print queues, printer
settings, printer ports, and language monitors, and then import them on another print server that is running a Windows operating system. This is an efficient way to consolidate multiple print servers or replace an older print server.

  • Print migration - after migration not able to put spool to cluster drive

    Hello
I am performing a migration from standalone server 2008 to 2 node printer cluster 2008.
All my spool are configured to D drive in cluster - when i migrate the printers from standalone server to cluster printer server, Spools are not able to load in D drive (data drive in cluster) its residing in c drive it self in cluster node. In standalone
server all spool are residing in c drive. Can any expert let me know how to solve this!!

    Hi Prasad S,
Based on your description, I understand you want to migrate a standalone printer server to a clustered print server. However, the Spool can’t be loaded. Would you please
let me know whether use resource kit utilities (such as Print Migrator tool) to help you automate the migration or migrate manually?

  • Print migration and old eDir object assoc. to manager

I did a print migration from NW 6.5 SP7 to OES 2 SP1 linux. It said it completed but with errors. On first look, everything seemed fine. But now I found that if I manage the Print Manager and go into Printer Agents --> Tasks and look at the 'edir object name' some of the printers have the old printer name (i.e. printer_nw.printers.company). There were 21 printers migrated in this run and 4 have the _nw objects assigned to them. If I try to manage those printers I get an error saying "Invalid Object: The selected object is not a valid type for this property book. ". Whilst, the other printers (without the _nw) are fine. Also, I looked it consoleone all of the new printer objects have been created. It just seems that the manager has the old edir names assigned to some printers.
I know I can just recreate those printers and thatd care of it, but Id rather not. Is there any way to change the "edir object name" in the manager that points to the printers?
    Thanks!

    hi,
In iprint migration in order to create the iPrint Printer Object in the
same context we have to rename the existing object. Sometime it happens
that when we have renamed the objects and if you login to iManager
iPrint Manager Print Manager it still shows the Older printer object.
This is a typical problem of eDirectory not syncronized with other
replicas. May if you would wait all the printer which you would have
tried migrting would have been renamed to _nw in the same container.
Please try migrating and ensure your replicas are in sync. It will work.
The newer iPrint printer agent would have been created on the same
    container.
    thanks

  • Printer Migration, Error: 0x800706D9.

    Hello all,
we have more than 500 Printer. After Migration only 10-20 was succesfully moved to new Server.
I thinks only the reg path Printers is missing. When I Import Printers Reg than I can see all Printers.
    EventId: 81
we have a Problem with PrinterMigration from 2008 to 2012R2.
Printbrm.exe (the Printer Migration Wizard or the command-line tool) failed to restore print queue RP45074. The restore process will continue, skipping this queue. Error: 0x800706D9.

    Hi Chris,
Regarding to the Event ID 81, please refer to the following article.

Based on your description, did you mean that can only move 10-20 printers to new server once a time? In addition,
it seems that you have checked and enabled firewall service. Please check if disable the sharing for the printers on server 2008. Then monitor the result.

  • Printer migration from HP-UX to AIX

    Hi Experts,
We are planning to migrate our systems from HP-UX to AIX, What are the steps we should take to move printers from HP-UX to AIX, we are not using any 3rd party to tool to manage the printer. They are just regular Unix spoolers.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    hi!
You can start to migrate the printers to type U (UNIX Berkeley protocol) and leave unix spool.

  • IPP printer migration has strange behavior

We have PM from the 6.5 suite. We set up a template to migrate printers, My Documents, and bookmarks. It collects the DNA correctly. when it restores it (Windows 2000 to Windows 2000, or Windows 2000 to Windows XP), everything comes back...EXCEPT we get a shortcut on the desktop that says "Reconnect ipp/..." which points to the ipp printer that was collected. When you click on this shortcut, the Add Printer wiz starts.
IF you REBOOT after the DNA restore without clicking on this shortcut, it will disappear when the customer logs in, but then the Add Printer starts automatically. If you CANCEL the add printer, everything works fine, and the ipp printer is present and correctly installed.
Is this correct behavior? How do I eliminate the shortcut/add printer wizard from starting since it appears it is not needed?
    thanks

  • SAP Printer migration from AIX to windows

    Dear Experts,
We migrated our ECC from AIX to Windows.
We want to migrate printers from AIX to windows.
Do we have to create queues from scratch in SPAD?
Can we use existing queues in SPAD?
Please guide what all steps are required.
Your help will be highly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Harry

    Hi Hary,
For windows environment you need to change the spool server hostname in SPAD and activate all the relevant printers.
Please check whether you had any network printers configured on AIX host. You can use command
    smitty spooler  or
    lpstat -W -p<queuename>
If there are any spoolers configured for SAP system, you need to recreate them on windows.
    Hope this helps.

  • Printer Share Migrations when SCCM DP is replaced with new name

we are inprocess of replacing the remaining office servers which are SCCM 2012 SP1 DPs with replacement servers that are Svr 2012.  in the past when we did this for the 2003 server we were able to use printmig to create a script that the user only had
to click once on a file and all the print shares were installed on the client system without them having to reinstall every print share manually.
we tried using alias thru DNS with CNAME and IPs. outcome was the old name appeared as expected but unable to print. printer error was unable to connect to printer or printer offline.
looking for an automated means with new printer migration tool for Svr 2012 or some other recognized Microsoft tool.
Michael Pace Client Services Team Allegis Group, Inc.

i need to clarify the question.
it isn't the printer migration from one print server to another.
the issue is our company does not want our users to always have to remapp their print shares everytime a office server is replaced.
the only reason we have to do so now is that active 2003 is a DP for SCCM and the replacement server is also a DP with the print server function as the old server.  since the servers are active, and the swap out takes place within a several hour
period, we have to change the name on the replacement server due to SCCM.  that is dilemma.
prior to sccm being in the picture, we would use printmig to export data and add that to a script that would with one click by user would reinstall all print shares on their system. (server 2003 and XP)
all our attempts to use alias have failed.
so we are looking for a similar method with do the same for the users as before but now we have win 7 with no admin rights and server 2012 r2.

  • Cannot migrate users print queues to new print server

I am needing to move the print queues on users computers to a new print server that I have set up by I am not able to do so. I have over 200 users at the office. I am thinking it is a problem getting to run it on the clients, but not sure where it is failing...
To start... I have moved the print queues from Server 2003 to Server 2008 R2. The machines are both 64 bit. I was able to export the drivers and the print queues to the new server using the print migrate tool. The names of the printers are the same on both...
The names of the print servers are different. I added a print queue to a test client and was able to print to it without a problem mapped to the new server, so that's not the problem.
What I can't do is use the script (see below) to remap the clients to the new server. I have tried and configured the script as a user log on script, configured a group policy and placed my test user in the OU. Rebooted the machine, logged
on with the test account but the print queues stay the same. I have even tried to run the script locally but still no joy... it runs but the queues stay the same. I used RSOP and see that the script is being applied... I am running Windows 7 Professional.
I really need to get this resolved as the server is being decommissioned within the month.

    Hi,
    àI added a print
queue to a test client and was able to print to it without a problem mapped to the new server, so that's not the problem.
    àWhat I can't
do is use the script (see below) to remap the clients to the new server.
Based on your description, I understand that you have moved print queues to new print server via print migrate
tool successfully. However, when use this script (Remap Printer Connections) to re-map Printer Connections, the script seems to not be ran as expected. Meanwhile,
I noticed that you had ran the script locally. Did you find any error when ran this script?
On current situation, this issue seems to be more related to this Remap Printer Connections script. I suggest
that you would post it in
Official Scripting Guys Forum. I believe we will get a better assistance there.
If anything I misunderstand or any update, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

  • Windows 2008 R2 Print Server DRP

Hi all, I have two servers Windows 2008 R2 with the print server rol on different sites.
One of the server is productive and has around 600 printers and the second one should be the DRP server on another data center.
I need a way to synchronize the changes from the productive server (add, remove or queues and drivers changes) to the DRP server.
I tried to make a backup and do a restore on the DRP server but it's a very large file to transfe from one data center to another, is posible to create a script to keep the changes up to date on the DRP server or do I use any application to do that?
    Thanks in advance
    Fer

I think there is no better solution than using the printer migration tool.
A script could add and remove queues, ports and even drivers but you'll get stuck on the printer preferences. Those settings are driver dependent and even driver versions can be different in the way they store there settings.
If you don't want to use the printer migration tool you should use print manager to manage both servers from one console and just do everything twice.

  • Printers won't migrate correctly from 2k to xp

We use Personality Migration from ZENworks 7. Everything seems to be working ok except for the printer migration. I'm able to export the settings from a win2k installation, but when I try and import them back to a windows xp installation the printers don't migrate correctly. Usually it will spray printer icons on the desktop and then bring up the add new hardware wizard. If I cancel out of the new hardware wizard most of the printers install correctly, but sometimes the printers just don't import. I can see them in the registry, but they don't show up in the control panel. They won't show up either if I just try and reinstall them. I have to completely remove the printer from the registry and then reinstall.
I've seen a couple other threads on this with no responses. Is there no work around for this?

    Eric
Had the same issue. I'm going to guess the printers are IP based? What is happening is DNA can't see printers that aren't in the default Windows cabs/drivers. So, if it can't find the driver, it runs it's own "add printer" routine, which puts the icons on the desktop.
We tried restoring, then running some reg hacks to delete the icons and reset some registry keys (the runonce key in particular). It didn't work because when you run a restore, it unloads Windows Explorer to do so...which unloads the nal. When done, it reloads Explorer, not the NAL. So, if you do a restore and then try to do "run after" scripts, the nal isn't there to finish them out.
The commercial version of the product has a script that will prevent Windows Explorer from closing....but the Novell version doesn't. Using the registry hacks can help you brute force the problem, but without the script, you are stuck.
We gave up. All our printers are iPrint, so we don't migrate them, customers have been acceptable to go install them again from the maps.
IF you happen upon a good solution, please post it.

  • Need help with Automating Printer and LPR installation

I work for someone who has a need for automating the print installation of LPR print port to mac laptops. Obviously this will need to cover anything OS X 10.3 and above. All of this needs to be done command line via a batch file of sorts.
I am a windows and Linux guy, however I just bought a Mac and starting to like the new Leopard OS and the capabilities of boot camp.
    What I need:
    1) how to install LPR port to the laptop
    2) installing a printer from a some sort of cab file with correct port and drivers. (in windows we use print migrator, however the cab files we use for windows will obviously not work with different port types and drivers)
    3) finally some clean up type script that will clean up any temp files I had to create or such.
I kind of need this soon so if anyone knows how or could point me in the right direction. It would be greatly appreciated.

If you force restart the computer on the freeze up, or force quit the printer adding window, does the printer appear in the print and scan system preference?   In other words, did the printer successfully install?  (is it possible that the setup part of the install failed, but the actual install worked?)
If so, you might be able to set the configurations yourself.
Open up the print and scan system preference.  Double click on the printer.
When the printer queue window opens up, you should be able to click on the printer setup button.
Go through all the tabs and set things up the way you like.
