Printer no longer works w/computer

Hello and HELP!    Recently I switched ISP and was provided with a wireless router which I had never had before.   My HP 6310 printer no longer prints off of the computer and HP is telling me I need a new printer.   Is this the only way to go as I am on a limited income....Thank you and Happy Holidays!    Trekbabe

Which type of connection are you using with this printer?
Is your printer connected with a USB cable or is it a wireless model?
How is it that HP is telling you that you need a new printer?
Has your printer been diagnosed as failed by an HP service technician?
Is it no longer in the standard (one year) warranty period?
Kind regards,
erico

Since upgrading to Mavericks, my Canon MP980 printer no longer works. I've tried deleting the printer and adding it again. I've downloaded the driver software from Canon. My Mac dropbox tells me "the selected printer software is available from Apple", but when I click to download it, the process ends with my mac saying the software is not currently available from the software update server.

Open Finder and click on Go > Go to Folder. Then type
    /Library/Printers/Canon
and press Enter. This will show the BJPrinter and iJScanner folders. You could try moving or trashing this folder and then installing the driver that you downloaded from Canon again.

  • Just upgraded to Mavericks and my HP6100 printer no longer works, when I try to reload the software it says PowerPC apps no longer supported.  Is there a way to use my HP6100 Printer with Mavericks?

Just upgraded my 2009 iMac (3.06 Ghz, core 2 duo $GB 1067 Mhz DDR3) to Mavericks OSX 10.9.5 and my HP6100 printer no longer works, when I try to reload the software it says PowerPC apps no longer supported.  Printer says the software was improperly installed. Is there a way to use my HP6100 Printer with Mavericks or do I need to go back to Mountain Lion or Snow Leopard?

It's not clear whether your printer is included in the Apple list - there is an Officejet 6100 and a couple of other types. Go to the page linked to above and use the browser search for 6100.
I'm afraid HP are notorious for not supporting older printers - I had the same problem. Probably they hope you will buy another printer (I did, but it was a Canon). I did look on HP's site and couldn't see a driver - you could give it a try (make sure you have the exactly correct printer name):
    http://www8.hp.com/uk/en/support-search.html?tab=1#/qryterm=HP6100&search_search type=s-002
Alternatively ou could try Gutenprint (open source software):
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php
I found it would indeed drive the printer, but the colour dithering wasn't very satisfactory and the duplex printing bolt-on wouldn't work. However as Gutenprint is free it's worth trying to see if it's any good for you.

  • My XP printer no longer works with snow leopard over the network

My XP networked printer (Samsung 4200) no longer works with snow leopard after Mac update.  Printer hooked up to XP and can access it through network.
When I print it requests that I to authenticate the printer with a user name and password but it's not password protected. I don't have a password, but I tried all the usuals anyways.
It worked fine a couple days ago, and I've tried everything since.  I've reset my printers, turned off both computers.  Plugged the printer directly into the Mac - didn't work at first but downloaded a new driver Splix - 2 (Samsung doesn't make an OS X driver for this printer) and got it working.  Reinstalled Bonjour on the PC, which can't even see a printer now.  Any help would be hugely appreciated.
    THanks in advance.

Connecting from a Mac to Windows is password protected. If you tried to connect to a shared folder on Windows you would also be prompted to enter your Windows credentials. So when you do print next time, enter your Windows user details and password. If XP has no password then set one - it is bad practise to have a Windows computer without a password. And updates to Mac OS X expect you to have one set in the Windows computer.
If for some reason you don't want to set a password in XP then enable the Guest account and you can use this on the Mac when you get the prompt (either select Guest or type it in).

  • Printer no longer working after wireless network reset

OfficeJet Pro 8500A, MacBook Pro, running Mavericks.
Since 3 days ago, when we re-added a password and locked our wireless router (ATT modem, UVerse), our printer is "off-line"   Print jobs queue up, but do not print.  When I go in and check it says "printer off-line."  Or in the print queue, it is something like "looking for printer."
It worked briefly when we found a cord and plugged it in to the laptop, but will not work wirelessly, which it was doing before.    No changes except to re-do password for the network.
I have the manual and have turned everything off, then back on in the order recommened (router, then printer, then laptop).  Still off-line.   Can someone please help?   Thank you!

    Hello @LindaGrace,
Welcome tot he HP Support Forums!
I understand that since re-adding a password to your wireless router your HP Officejet Pro 8500A e-All-in-One Printer is not communicating wirelessly with your Mac OS X 10.9 computer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this wireless communication issue.
Now, making a change to your network, such as a adding a password or altering a password, results in having to reconfigure your printer on the wireless network. At this point your printer is being 'blocked' access to your wireless network due to the change that you made. To correct this issue you simply rerun the wireless setup for your printer to 'tell' the printer the network name and password. Once the wireless setup is run successfully everything will continue working for you as per normal.
To run the Wireless Setup Wizard on your printer please follow the steps below.
On the printer touch screen, touch the Right Arrow () to display the second navigation screen.
Touch Network () to open the Network Menu screen.
    Touch Wireless.
Touch Wireless Setup Wizard, and then touch Continue.
Wait while the printer searches for routers that are within range. The Select Network (SSID) menu displays.
Scroll down the list of network names until you find the name of your network.
Touch the name of your network.
If prompted, enter the WEP or WPA key. This is the password for your wireless. The password is case sensitive.
Wait for the printer to connect to the network
    - Source
Once your printer is connected to your network again, please try to print. If printing still fails you may need to re-add the printer to your Mac because of the printers new network connection. Please follow the steps below to add the printer back to the Mac.
    1. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
    2. Click Print & Scan, and then check if the name of your printer displays in the Printers list.
    3. If your printer is already listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm communication with the Mac. Click the name of your printer, click the minus sign (), and then delete the printer
    4. Click the plus sign (), click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer
    5. Click Add to add the printer to the list.
Now that the printer is successfully configured on your network and added to the Mac please try wirelessly printing again.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Good luck!

  • Printing No Longer Working After Recent Upgrade

My printing suddenly stopped working after the latest upgrade (which upgraded the kernel from 2.6.15.2 to 2.6.15.4).
I discovered that arch is no longer auto-loading the parport_pc module.  This is strange.  If I run "hwdetect --show-modules", parport_pc is shown.
I do have MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes" in my rc.conf file.
The quick fix is to add "parport_pc" to the list of MODULES in rc.conf.
    Are others having this problem?
    Rob

I just read your post.  I am sorry I could not join irc.  I was actually at work.  It is very hard for me to use irc at work.  Firewalls make life difficult!
In any event, I think I solved the problem.
    Please see http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=18747
    Here is the complete post:
In my /etc/modprobe.conf file, there was the folloiwng line:
    # Load lp support with parport_pc
    install parport_pc modprobe -i parport_pc ; modprobe lp ; true
I believe that this line was in the original /etc/modprobe.conf file that came with arch 0.7. I don't remember ever adding it.
I commented out this line and I removed "parport_pc" from the list of MODULES to be loaded in /etc/rc.conf.
I rebooted and it worked. The modules lp, parport and parport_pc were all autoloaded at boot-up.
I should also note that right after the arch upgrade, I was experiencing CUPS daemon failure once and awhile at boot up. Somtimes cupsd loaded and sometimes it failed at boot up. Now it seems that cupsd loads reliably at every bootup. Problem solved!
The following are the remaining lines in my /etc/modprobe.conf:
    # Load ppp-generic with modem drivers
    install Intel536 modprobe -i Intel536 ; modprobe ppp-generic ; true
    install Intel537 modprobe -i Intel537 ; modprobe ppp-generic ; true
install ltmodem modprobe -i ltmodem ; modprobe ppp-generic ; true
install ltserial modprobe -i ltserial ; modprobe ppp-generic ; true
install slamr modprobe -i slamr ; modprobe ppp-generic ; true
install slusb modprobe -i slusb ; modprobe ppp-generic ; true
    # OSS Compatibility
    #install snd-pcm modprobe -i snd-pcm ; modprobe snd-pcm-oss ; true
    #install snd-seq modprobe -i snd-seq ; modprobe snd-seq-oss ; true
    # --- BEGIN: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
    # --- ALSACONF version 1.0.10 ---
    alias snd-card-0 snd-opl3sa2
    alias sound-slot-0 snd-opl3sa2
    options snd-opl3sa2 fm_port=-1 midi_port=-1 port=0x538 wss_port=0x530
    options isapnp=0 dma1=1 dma2=0 irq=5
    # --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
The modem driver lines came with the original /etc/modprobe.conf file in arch 0.7.
Should I also comment them all out?
Perhaps I should only have the lines for my old ISA sound card in the /etc/modprobe.conf file. Please let me know.
Has there been a change in the kernel or udev which makes it neccesary to make all these changes in the /etc/modprobe.conf file?

  • Printer no longer works after upgrading to Maverick

I have an Epson TX810FW, multifunction printer/scanner.  It wwas working fine until I updated to Mavericks.  I now get a message that the scanner function is not supported and I cannot get the printer to work.  I need both working, and I have loaded all the latest updates from Epson up to 2.15.1.
Can someone provide an answer that will restore the mrinter to fully operational?  Otherwise, how can I reomve Mavericks, as the loss of functionality is more of a downside than any enhancements that Mavericks might claim.

    Hi,
I've been experiencing a similar issue with my old, yet working until Mavericks update, OKIPage 14ex. No problem at all with both Lion and Mountain Lion but after Mavericks update the printer cannot print any longer. The printer is connected via a regular USB port, the system recognizes it, I can send a print to its queue but as soon as the print is enqueued the printer goes into hold status and nothing can be done to resume the print.
Since the printer model is quiet old, no driver is avaliable from OKI support, however I'm wondering what Apple did with this update thus being able to produce such a mess.
Of course I tested the printer conncted to another PC and it perfectly works!
I would really appreciate some advice in order to restore the previous situation.
    Many thanks.
    Marco

  • Update, printer no longer working

    hi,
i've had the 1.4.x series of CUPS for a while, and had to rmmod usblp to print. not a big deal.
this is no longer working, and i'm not sure why. i've blacklisted usblp, still no dice.
print jobs are permanently reported as:

Try re-installing (go over the settings again) in the cups web-interface.  I had do this when I just updated for some reason.  Process is like: Maintain Printer, then go through all the steps to set it up again.

  • HP 4050 Printer no longer working

not sure if its related but since I've updated the software release on both 10.6.4 on the macbook and airport extreme, the printer is no longer working and has dissapeared from the airport extreme usb summary. I've changed the Parallel to US cable, thinking it may be the cable, but still have the issue.... My option is to either keep troubleshooting this or by a HP Jetdirect 610B ethernet card. Does anyone know if this card version works with the latest OS?

I'm afraid you are the victim of a silly HP-policy to limit functionality after a system-upgrade. Try HPIJS, a Linux-driver. Follow the instructions on the page and after a few downloads and installing software you will probably be able to print wireless again.
My PSC 1315 didn't work wireless after I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. And scanning also wasn't supported anymore. With HPIJS I got wireless printing working and for scanning I use VueScan. I must add that now with Snow Leopard HP got the wireless functionality back, but scanning is still a problem although HP Architect on this forum says they got it working again with latest software update. So far I can't get it working... VueScan still works though.

  • Just updated software and now epson printer no longer works

I'm frustrated.  I updated software ( as recommended by apple) and now my epson printer no longer is working. I've read through some threads about throwing the extension /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext/Contents/MacOS/AppleUSBEthernetHost  away... and that is not working for me.  I cannot print. I have also followed the info on the apple site about deleting the printer and then readding it, all to no avail.  please help. thankyou.

Without knowing anything about the printer, version of OS X installed, or how the printer is connected it is difficult to help you out. When posting please post specifics.

  • Canon MP600 printer no longer working with Yosemite

I have an iMac, Mid 2011 with OS X Yosemite Version 1010.2 installed.  It has 4gb of memory and a 2.7GHz Intel Core i5 processor.  Of my 1TB of storage I have 934.81 GB free.
Since returning from a recent holiday my Canon Pixma MP600 printer has not been recognised by my iMac and I am no longer able to print from it.  It did work with Yosemite before I left and I have been unable to restore the printer on the on the Printers and Scanners list.  I have tried to uninstall the printer software and go back a step to install it with OS Mavericks but having gone through that process once it did not work.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?

    Hi trev1124
I have tried a number of ways to reinstall my printer but it does not appear in the drop down menu under Printers and Scanners and no matter what I seem to do will it come up.  I am just about at my wits end with this.  Short of binning my current printer (which was working perfectly well by the way) and buying a new one I do not know what else to do.
If anyone has any other suggestions I would be most grateful.

  • Upgraded to Maverick and printer no longer works

I upgraded to Maverick and my printer: Canon MX850 no longer works.  I downloaded drivers from canon website but did not seem to work

First, delete the driver you downloaded. OS X includes a driver for your printer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#canon-inkjet
I would delete the printer from the system, restart, and the system should "find" your printer.

  • Just upgraded to CS 4 and duplex printing no longer works

I'm trying to print a 2-sided document to an HP Laserjet 9500 from InDesign, and the duplexing no longer works. The printer still duplexes from my other Mac running CS2, so I'm wondering if something happened when I installed the upgrade.

I cannot get the dueplexing feature to work on our HP P2055  with InDesign CS3 & CS4 for the MAC.
HP P2055 Printer Driver from Snow Leopard.
From InDesign CS3 or CS4 (MAC) I send a two page Landscape document to duplex print. Only 8.5" from the left edge on both sides print. It's like it is only printing through a portrait mask.
Now if I make the document Portrait, then it prints fine.
The booklet printing is ever worse.
If I print with PCL instead of Postscript (Generic or the HP Postscript) the dueplexing works, but it prints the oppisite side flipped.
From a Windows Vista machine running CS2 everything works great.
On the MAC I can create a PDF from InDesign, open the PDF and duplex print the the same file fine.
On the MAC MS Word duplexes fine.
Anyone have insight on this InDesign/Printer issue?

  • Duplex printing no longer working

I occasionally use duplex printing, but when I tried recently it no longer worked. I am using 10.5.8 on a MBP. Used to work just fine, even say 3 months ago, but not now. I tried with VMWare Fusion running XP and selected the same printer and duplex. Using the same document this prints duplex OK!
This behaviour seems to now be true for me with all printers. The first was a HP 2420dn, but the same result also with Xerox 7750. Must be a system problem, but what? The only apple updates I can think I've done recently are Safari and iTunes, and of course security and java updates. Very strange.

Well I seem to have found the answer, but I don't quite understand why it works. It seems I was not using the standard preset in the printer dialogue. If I select "standard" then I again get back duplex printing when I select it. However when you compare the printer summary settings for the two cases "standard" and the previous one I was using, there seems to be absolutely no difference.
    Odd really.
    Well, life goes on.
