Printer not on list...

I installed an Epson Stylus CX7000F to the USB attached to a PC (Win XP) desktop. It replaced a CX6600. I was able to print from my MacBook Pro (OS X v10.4.9) through the Network Neighborhood, as the 6600 was listed on the drop down menu.
I installed the latest CX7000F drivers for OS X on the Mac, but I don't see the printer on the drop-down list. The Epson site said the driver was for Intel based Mac's 10.4 and later.
I'm not very experienced in installing stuff on a Mac (I have more of a PC background). I don't know what I'm looking for. Any Ideas what I need to do.

Unless the printer has built-in wifi or ethernet, the driver supplied by Epson only works via USB. You need a CUPS driver to use the built-in network printing protocols on OS X. Apple included the Gimp-Print drivers (CUPS drivers) in 10.4 to get around this, but many new models aren't in that. I think you should try Gutenprint, the new name for Gimp-Print, because many new models have been added:

Edit - I don't see the CX7000 in there, so I think you'll have to wait for an update. You can also check www.printfab.net for their (CUPS) drivers.

Trying to get old printer (not on list) running on new computer

New computer = Satellite L755-S5349, running on Windows 7, 64-bit.
Printer = HP Color LaseJet 3600n (which doesn't appear on the computer's list of recognized drivers).
HP Download web-site says their Vista version driver for the 3600 should work on this computer.
I have downloaded that driver.
When I plug in the USB connector, the computer seems to recognize the printer's existence, but puts it into the category of "Other Devices", not "Printers and Faxes";
and, when I try to print a document, the computer seems to be trying to send it to a Fax (I don't have a Fax).
In any case, it doesn't print and the document doesn't show up in the printing-monitor area.
I'm thinking I may have done something wrong in designation which "port" I wanted it to go through; I don't recall seeing USB as an optio. As noted, I'm connecting the computer to printer via a USB cable - which has worked fine with 2 previous computers.
As you may tell, I'm a real Newbie at this - pretty non-technical - so: 1) if it's something really "obvious" (to you), please don't flame me too bad; and 2), if you've got a solution, be prepared to walk me through everything in baby steps, with as little jargon as possible (assume no pre-knowledge about the innards/workings of a computer).

The file I downloaded from HP is called "HP Color Laserjet 3600 host based driver" version 61.082.61.41 dated 26 November 2008. It's 14.2 MB in size. Unzip it to the folder of your choice (e.g., C:\HP CLJ3600 Driver) then add the printer through Win 7's Devices and Printers. Point Windows to that folder (instead of a CD) and it should do the job.
HP's printer group seems fond of stranding it's users, I've had to struggle to get a few older LaserJets to work in a few different installations. :-(

Adding shared printers? Network printer not showing up in list

I have a network printer not showing up in the Bonjour Printer Wizard. There is not a place to add a printer to this list. Does my network printer need to be installed under the Windows side as well, or can I share it using Bonjour? I'm confused as to how the shared printer program works. Also, my Adobe "print to pdf" option shows up as a printer, but how do I change the file destination location? It doesn't give me an option to change the "saved to" location. I am using these printers through Parallels in AutoCad, and that should be the only reason I will need to share printers. But I am in AutoCad a good deal of time, so I need to know how to quickly print my drawings.

You don't say if you installed after downloading the Printer you deleted, but I suspect it's one not showing, and that you need to reinstall.

New printer not showing on printer dropdown selection list

Hi.
I had a canon MP600 printer that I removed and replaced with Canon MG5350. It prints fine for word/excel but for adobe pdf the new printer does not appear in the select printer list, but the old one still does. I can't print any pdf file and don't have the old printer.
How can I get the new printer to appear in the list?

OS is windows 7, and I had no problems with printing other docs, only pdf, but....
I was searching around other forums and came across this fix, hooray

However, if the permission is denied, click on edit tab and allow permissions. Then you can delete the device printer.
Then, I went back to control panel, devices and printers, selece the new printer as default and hip hip hooray.
Anyone else having problem where the new printer, or indeed a printer doesn't show on the printer dropdown selection list, can try and use the above method. It worked for me.

HP Printer not appearing in Printer Setup Utility LIst

My HP Deskjet 6980 printer used to work fine when I first bought it. Then my laptop stopped bring able to connect to it. I contacted HP and they told me to remove the printer from the list and re-install the latest driver. I did that, and I also reset the printer setup utility preferences, but the printer never comes up. The printer does work. I printed out a few test pages from it while disconnected from the computer. How can I make the printer appear on the Setup utility list?

HP provides this troubleshooting tip.
From what I can determine the printer is an Ethernet printer. I assume you have it connected via an Ethernet cable either to your computer or a network router. You may need to add the printer as a TCP/IP printer using the IP Printer option in Printer Setup Utility. Consult the printer's manual for information on configuring the Ethernet settings. You probably should be able to configure the printer's Ethernet to use DHCP. Your Network preferences in System Preferences should also be configured to use DHCP.

Printing iCal weekly list view

Experimenting with a trial version of Missing Sync to sync my Palm with iCal. Is it possible to delete the notes that appear under each event when I print the weekly list view? I print out 8 days and I want to keep it to one page. Eliminating the notes would help. Or is it possible to add the time frame to each event in the week view so you can more easily see the begin and end time for each event?
Is the Missing Sync program worth it or should I just use the sync program that came with iCal?

Is there a way to print an e-mail without also printing a long list of addresses?

I am a recipient of some newsletters whose authors include recipient e-mail addresses in the To and CC fields. Occasionally I want to forward the newsletter to friends who are not on-line. (Yes, there are still some around.) I do this by printing the newsletter and forwarding it via snail mail. I could reduce the number of pages if I could avoid printing the address list.
I have not found any discussion of this topic in Thunderbird help or Mozilla support.

Unfortunately, there is no built-in way to easily modify the Subject/From/Date/To section of the print layout.
Thunderbird can be customized with style rules, but since you only want to omit the To on a case by case basis, that would not be a convenient approach. (Unless one of the rules could limit To to no more than one line. Maybe that would be a reasonable workaround?)
You could check for an add-on.

Can I print out the list of Dictation commands?

I use dictation a lot but I can't memorise all the commands until I've learned them. The trouble is that to find out what they are, I have to go into system preferences, and from there to Accessibility, and from there a whole series of other steps before I get to the on-screen list of commands.
By which time I've probably forgotten what I was trying to do anyway.
Isn't there some way of printing out this list of commands?

Unfortunately I do not know of a way to view more than one "batch" of ten purchases at a time, and there is no way to print the list directly. Grab a screenshot and print each one is the only way I can think of.

Printing Notes in iCal

I need to print notes with my calendar in a weekly format - I don't see the option. Can anyone help?

may i suggest a work around? ical>file>print, then select the "list" view, and in time range select 7 days, select the items you want to print, such as only events for example, you will then see events with notes for seven days.

Load the drivers and you should then be able to add it in Print Center.

I can no longer print using wifi. I have to connect a USB cable to print. Setup and pref show that I should be able to print wireless but I keep getting printer not found msg when trying.

Sys pref shows printer with green light next to idle. Sending a print prompt results in "searching for printer, printer not found, ensure printer is turned on". I have reinstalled printer in my print list and reinstalled printer software on macbook. Kodak 5250 AiO printer shows it's configured for and on wifi channel. I go online with laptop using wireless but cannot print. Help!

If you know the IP address of the printer, then you can check if there is a working path between the Mac and printer. This can be done using Network Utility or a web browser.
If you open Network Utility and select the Ping tab, you can enter the IP address of the Kodak and then press the Ping button. If there is a working connection then you should get a reply to each packet sent.
With the web browser, many devices have a built-in web server so you can type the IP address of the printer into the browser and if there is a working connection then you will open the printers web page.
So, are you able to confirm you have a working connection between the Mac and printer?

I turned all off for the night, then turned back on this morning. When I tried to print, it said "printer not connected". Then I removed the printer from the list (system preferences--printers & scanners--hitting the - sign). Then I tried to repopulate the list (still in system preferences--printers-- hit the +) . Nothing shows up. No printers to choose from. And no printing "no printer selected". I turned all off again, hoping the list would populate when I turned it back on, but still no list to choose a printer from.
My printer does show up on the list when I plug it in with a USB cord, but still doesn't work. (can't remember if I had to do this in the very beginning). I don't know about reinstalling.....don't have the cd, but don't think the cd was used anyway. I have looked all through the printer instructions on the printer small screen (HP deskjet 3054A 611j) and did hit return to default settings. Could I have reset an address or something? Of course I did this after I already had a problem.
All other literature refers me to the printer cd for reinstall.
Very frustrating. Thanks for your efforts, any other ideas?

HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401a Laser Printer Not Saving Downloaded Fonts

we have recently purchased an HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401a Laser Printer which needs to be used with a system that downloads fonts for correct style printouts. The problem I am having is the fonts download initially which is great, but they are not saved by the printer after 1 printout so the user is having to download the fonts everytime she wants to print something.
All other printers in the office are HP2055 and work as expected saving the fonts after the initial download. I have asked the support team of the application to have a look at the situation and they say everything is setup correctly so it may be an issue with the printer. Printer is installed on a Windows XP SP3 PC.
Firware version: 20121205 (15 Dec 2012)
Driver Version: 61.140.04.14138 (1 Jan 2013)

If the downloaded soft fonts are definitely not being saved (despite the download presumably terminating with a 'make soft font permanent' escape sequence), then the problem must lie in the firmware - and the only resolution is if HP releases a new version with a fix.
To be certain about which PCL5 fonts are resident in the printer, you have presumably printed off a 'PCL5 Typeface List' via the relevant front panel menu (assuming this printer has one).
Or you could send the following direct to the printer to invoke that report:
<Esc>%-12345X@PJL COMMENT Print PCL Font List
@PJL DMINFO ASCIIHEX = "040004010105020402015E"
<Esc>%-12345X
where <Esc> represents the non-graphic) Escape control-code character (the character with decimal code 27, or hexadecimal 1B), and each PJL statement is terminated with a LineFeed control-code (decimal 10, hexadecimal 0A).
Assuming that the printer is USB-connected, you could send the contents of the file (name, say, testfile.prn) holding the above to the printer using the copy command in a command-prompt session:
copy /b testfile.prn \\computer-name\share-name
where:
computer-name is the name of the host workstation
share-name is a share name of the installed Windows printer instance.
I don't have access to your model of printer, but I do use a LaserJet Pro 400 Colour MFP 475dn (MFP equivalent of M451 printer), and this does appear to retain downloaded 'permanent' soft fonts - but only until the device goes into 'sleep' mode!
So it is probably a common 'fault' (or 'design decision'?) across this family (LJ Pro 400) of printers.
