Printer on one Mac; need to print from another

My USB printers are connected to my iMac. I want to be able to print from my Macbook. My have a Time Capsule as my WAP. I also have Ethernet running thru the house. How can I print from the Macbook?

On the iMac, Go to System Preferences > Sharing > click on the printer Sharing service. Look at the window to the right and see if both printers are shared. The furthest rightmost window should show the users that it can be shared with.
If the iMac sees the printer than you should be able to share it.
Gotta love Apple. Everything seems to just work! Because of a very unpleasant Vista experience a couple of years ago I switched the family to Macbooks. I've gone from being a "what's wrong with Windows? - I like it because I get to tinker a lot" to a confirmed Mac lover because everything just works. My IT skills are getting rusty, since there isn't a lot to fix.
I hear ya. I made that switch and never looked back.

According to the list, there is no driver for your printer included in OS X 10.7.
There are a couple of options:
1. Contact HP to see if they have a workaround.
2. If the model of printer is not listed but your printer is a PostScript printer or PCL Laser printer, try the "Generic PostScript" or "PCL Laser printer" drivers. Generic printer drivers may not let you access all the features of your printer.
I have not tried #2, but some people have had success.

I want to bring one mac up to date with another

I have two macs in two different houses. One in a holiday home.
I use time capsule for my backups and take this with me when we are in the second home.
From reading various articles I understand that I need to use Migration assistant to transfer data from the Time Capsule to the second mac.
As the second mac is only six months behind the first a lot of the data will be the same.
Will using Migration assistant to transfer data duplicate the data already on the second mac when I try to bring it up to date.
I hope this is clear but if not can somebody help me and put me straight on this.

Sorry for the delay in responding.
I am not quite following you.
If I create a new administrator account and then use Migration Assistant to transfer data from my first Mac using Time Capsule, will I not have to transfer all the data which will still give me the problem of duplication on the second Mac.
Perhaps I would be better off formatting the second Mac and then restoring from the Time Capsule which will be up to date.
Sorry to question your advice but hope you can help.

How to clone one mac mini and restore on another

Hi,
I have 2 mac mini's. Both are version OSX 10.6.8.
Is it possible to backup one Mac Mini and fully restore on the other so it is an exact clone? So software, files, user accounts, settings etc. would all need to be backed up and restored from the source machine to the target machine

You can use Disk Utility if you boot into recovery as described in the article
If you want to cone one Mini to the other, Boot the source Mini in recovery and the other one in Target Disk mode and connect the two via firewire

How to back up one mac to an external using another mac

I want to back up my old MacBook Pro onto an external hard drive. The old MacBook Pro is bad shape, hard to use in normal mode. The apple store genius told me I could use my new MacBook Air as a conduit for this back up. I purchased a FireWire cable with a Thunderbolt adapter for this purpose. I was attempting to use Migration Assistant to accomplish this back up, putting the old MacBook Pro in Target Disk mode, but from what I've read on these forums, mainly this article: Mac OS X v10.6: How to use Migration Assistant to transfer files from another Mac, it doesn't seem possible to back up onto an external given the options I am given in the process. So my question is (A) how do I back up one macbook in target disk mode onto an external using a second macbook as a conduit, and (B) is it possible to simply back up the old MacBook Pro while in Target Disk or Safe modes? I've not tried using Migration Assistant before so i'm not sure on that. But if you put the old Mac in Target Disk mode and connect the working Mac to that it should show as an external drive, then connect your external HDD to the working Mac, open both drives and simply copy the data over or use your favourite backup software to do it.

Buying an Hp 1050 printer from another country, now the local cartridge won't work

I received my Deskjet 1050 All-in-One J410a printer last month, I used it frequently until finished its ink.
I am in Saudi Arabia, I took the old cartridge 61 everywhere but I coudn't find the same number. Now I searched for compatible one from HP SureSupply, to find that it's available in Saudi Arabia by no. 122.
I bought the new cartridges, installed them, now they aren't recognized ! So I googled it and find that I need regon reset.
I called customer care in Saudi Arabia, unfortunately they have an old number over the website, so I called US center, they couldn't hear me well and my call cost me a lot.
Any help will be appreciated.

Ordering prints from another photo site

I'm a new Mac user and am ordering photo prints for the first time. I would prefer to order from a local retailer instead of the Apple/Kodak ship to my door feature, but cannot figure out how to upload photos from my iPhoto library to the website of other photo site. When I browse Applications from the other photo site, iPhoto does not show up.
This is probably really easy, but I give up---can anyone tell me how to do this?

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.

To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:

If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
Other options include:
1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

How to print to my USB printer from another computer on VPN

I have a laser printer (HP) attached to my Mac Pro at work via USB. I can log into a VPN from my MacBook Pro laptop to have SFTP and VNC access to my computer (it's behind a firewall, along with every other machine in our lab). Is it possible for me to set up my printer sharing such that I can print to it from my laptop remotely (when on the VPN), but not allow anyone else (within the VPN or outside) to print to it?

I can't seem to add it. I did set it up to be shared (on the Desktop). Now, I'm on my laptop, VPN active, and have access to the IP of my desktop machine at work. I try to add the printer (should I use the IPP option, or HP JetDirect or LPD?) by IP address, and it doesn't know anything about it (doesn't see its model number). I pointed it to the appropriate printer description file (by model number), and it added it to the Printers list. When I tried to print, it didn't ask me for username and password, but did say "Unable to get printer status (Bad Request)!"
What do I try next?

After Installing Acrobat X Standard, Cannot print from another Windows Program

I am having a strange problem. Once I installed Acrobat X Standard, another Windows based program stopped printing. It now comes up with a usp10.dll error, but most of the time it just crashes the program. Tried reinstalling the program and no luck. The error points at a Helvetica Font being the culprit that was installed with Acrobat. I am not sure how to clear this up.

I have not removed it. One of the things I did try was going into the Registry and to FontSubstitutions and change the Helv to Helv,186 or something like that.

Printing from another device to the HP Envy 4501

We purchased this printer because we were supposed to be able to communicate with all of our devices. We have a laptop that can print to the printer, but we are unable to scan from the HP Envy 4501 to that laptop. It only wants to scan to our desktop, but the printer was only set up as a wireless printer (no USB's). Are we able to scan on the printer to any device and if so, how do we get this set up and enabled?

You may have to start from your computer first:
    Double click printer icon on desktop,
    Select Manage Scan to Computer
    Click Enable -
You can start this automatically with Windows BUT you will get an arror message if you turn on the computer BEFORE the printer.

How do I move photos from the library of one MAC to the library of another MAC?

I have down loaded over 500 picture from a recent vacation to my MacBook I-Photo Library. Now I want to duplicate those photos on my family's main IMac. How do I move those photos from the MacBook I-Photo Library to the iMac I-Photo library?

There's another app that can move photos between libraries (but not keywords or other metadata): SyncPhotos
Here's how it works:
1 - it compares the databases and/or album.xml files of Libraries A and B.
2 - the files in A that are not in B are imported into B by copying the original files from A into B's Import folder.
3 - it then does the same for B.
4 - metadata is not copied.
It can be used to just copy from A to B and not sync both ways if desired. It will work with 2 libraries that are different versions, i.e. between an iPhoto 08 and iPhoto 09 library.

My wife and I are going to upgrade our one dumb phone to two iPhones.
I understand that it's best to have two separate Apple ID's so as to differentiate between her and my phone, correct? -- We want text messages for her to go to her and messages for me to go to me.
It's not possible to have two Apple ID's on one e-mail, so what's the best solution for a second ID?
Any other advice/suggestions appreciated.

Create a free email account at gmail, yahoo, outlook.com, or one of the other email services and use that to create the second Apple ID.
Also, create separate user accounts on your computer for each of you to avoid unintentionally mixing up your data.

Create Sequences on one computer and render out from another

Essentially what i'm trying to acheive is to use Premiere Pro (CS6) on my Mac to create sequences themselves but use a PC on the network to do the rendering work overnight.
I create a number sequences, anywhere from a few minutes each that can be combined into hour plus long final videos.
Is there a way to "package" a project onto a network drive where the PC can then see the project itself with the relevant source media?. I can move the project file and the source media singularly but I then need to manually relocate the media each time.
The workflow would then be
All source media originally loaded onto Mac
Sequences within project made on the Mac
When ready for rendering transfer to PC
PC does work with Media Encoder, freeing up Mac for other tasks.
Any help or suggestions would be most welcome!

You will first have to have a consistent folder naming setup for both computers, so PPro may find the files
You will need to have the project and all files in one place on the server, and then copy everything to the appropriate computer for work... PPro does NOT work on a network, only on a local hard drive
So... edit on Mac, copy all to server... copy all to PC... render on PC... copy all back to server

I have a requirement as follows. I have two fields (objects)
program code
contract number
one program code can have several contract numbers.
I need to provide prompts on Program code and contract number. when user selects one program from the prompt on program code then contract field should only show contract numbers belonging the program user selected.
Please let me know how to bring this functionality in Webi report.

if ur requirement is in query level its impossible.(i mean whn u click on programcode then u have to display in contract at query level)
if you want to display at report level then
The two objects Program and contract have a mapping then place a program object in query filter and use operator equal to and select prompt and run the query then it will ask you to select program .whn on choosing it you will get filtered contract numbers for that program in report level . There no need to use prompt for contract numbers object .
