Printer policy keeps trying to install the printers on every policy refresh

I have a number of machines(Win7x64 11.3.2) that have a printer policy
assigned to them that installs a few SMB printers but no drivers. I can
install the printers manually no problem. When the policy runs I get the
windows progress box for each printer every refresh. Also if the printers
have been manually installed the same progress box still comes up every
refresh. What is real bad is if the machine is not connected to our network
the policy runs and pops up error boxes that is can't install the printers
and if you cancel it it comes back shortly later.
I have other machines assigned to the same policy and don't have this
problem and no errors in the message log. I have deleted and recreated the
policy with no change. I think it started showing up after one of the ZCM
updates but no sure when. It seems more prevalent on machines that have
been around for a while and have gone through more updates
I see the following errors in ZCC in the message log for the affected
devices.
The action printer policy (IDrinter policy) failed due to the reason :
partiallyFailedToEnforcePolicy, however the action is set to continue on
failure.
Additional Information: None
Failed to add smb printer \\<my server>\<printer to install>.
Additional Information: The RPC server is unavailable.

Debug Logs should have the exact string.
I wonder if its a rights issue to those printers.
Are some devices in a domain and others not or perhaps in different device folders resulting in different rights to those SMB printers?
I reference device rights because these printers may be installing using device rights via the policy instead of user rights.
This would be why it works when done manually.
Also when done manually, verify the exact parameters you are using vs what is in the logs.

  • I keep trying to install the latest version of firefox and it's not working

I'm running firefox 3.something, I think, and I keep trying to install the latest version on my mac. I go through saving it, opening it, dragging the icon to my apps file...and when I drag it to my apps file it takes a few seconds to do *something*, pings at me and then...nothing after that. I try to open it and it tells me I have to close firefox first, so I do (restart even) and when it opens again it still opens the old version.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
    *Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • Keep trying to install update for itunes and keep getting 'invalid signature'

keep trying to install the new updates for itunes and keep getting 'invalid signature' and it won't download

That suggests that the installer is getting damaged during the download.
I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

  • Send To Handheld keeps trying to install an invalid file.

I made the mistake of trying to use Send To Handheld to install a .wmv file. It gave me an error message saying that I don't have an application that is compatible with this file on my Palm. OK. I can't install that file on my Palm. However, it keep trying to install this file every time I sync my Palm. I have deleted the file from my computer and Send To Handheld still keeps trying to install the file. Each time I get the same error message. So, how do I get Send To Handheld to stop trying to install that file?
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

Unfortunately, no, I have not found a solution to this problem other than to make sure that the SD memory card is not in the memory slot when I sync. The installer is trying to install to that. So, if it is not available, it skips the attempt to install the incompatible file an syncs everything else.
It is really annoying that I can't find some other solution. One would think that the people who wrote these programs would know that some idiot would try to install an incompatible file with them and write in protections against that and/or a way to take the incompatible file out of the installation list. Back when I had to take a computer programing class in college, that was one of the things that they emphasized, idiot proofing our programs. The lab tutors were specifically told to try to crash our programs and if they succeeded, then we had to back and fix it so that it would happen again. It seems as if the people who wrote this program did not learn this lesson, as attempting to install an incompatible file is a fairly obvious potential error that should have been addressed.

  • I am trying to install the latest update for HP Printers, it will not completely install ,now my printers won't work. Help!

I am trying to install the latest update for HP Printers, it will not completely install ,now my printers won't work. Help!

Hello Carolyn -  Thank you for your quick response to my concerns, I had already gone to the HP support site and tried to get the latest HP drivers, the site said for Lion 10.7 there was NA version.  So, I just used my time machine to replaced the OS from that time spot. I got my printers working again, so all right with the printer.  But, the fact remains that I still keep getting the New Update HP Printer in the software update window.  But, what happens if I try to download and install it is this:  It starts the download, everything seems to come down fine, it starts write the files and then starts moving items into place, the blue bar fills to all most the end and slows down to a stop and never completes the installation.  I have left my laptop on over night and it never finishes the operation.  I can only force quit the software update.  Which has knock out my printer drivers.  Now, I just keep unchecking the box in the software updates for new HP printer software. Is anyone else having this problem or is it just my system?  Sincerely: Professor G

Sometimes the App Store version doesn't work correctly. In this case, install 10.8.4 with the Combo version > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1659?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
The Combo installer is the safest way to update OS X, and it allows you to update more than one computer with a single download

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

Trying to install the new itunes update and it keeps saying error could not install itunes. Currently I am running windows 7. Any advise to fix this problem. This is doing this when installing itunes/quicktime, safari 5, mobileme control panel, and the software update itself. The itunes version is 10.3.1

That suggests that the installer is getting damaged during the download.
