Printer prints garbage

I have my Photosmart c4180 All-in-One printer plugged into my Time Capsule. I have a wireless iMac, PC and Laptop and one wired PC all connected to it.
The iMac prints fine but the PCs all print garbage. They FIND the printer but still print garbage.
I have the HP drivers installed on each PC but it does not help.
Also, the scanner does not work now that it's plugged into the Time Capsule. I'm assuming thats normal, but if not, add THAT to my problems.
iMac running Leopard 10.5

I had to physically plug the printer INTO the XP PC for it to install the remainder of the drivers before unplugging it and plugging it into the Time Capsule.
And apparently HP doesn't make their scanners to work over a network (at least they don't have any patches so it'll work)

  • Need help! Printer printing garbage characters and non stop until out of paper

    Hi,
I have a computer lab that has 25 workstations. The workstations are installed with Adobe CS5 suite. Sometimes when trying to print Indesign files, the printer started to go haywire. It will print out garbage character and printing non stop until ran out of paper.
Any help will be great. Thanks in advance.
    Network printer: HP colorjet CP4525
    OS: Win XP SP3
    Software: Indesign CS5

There is no such thing as a Generic Adobe PostScript driver. What is posted on the adobe.com website is a driver installer that simply associates PPD files with the standards Windows PostScript driver that comes with Windows itself. That installer only works with versions of Windows up to and an including Windows XP 32-bit. It does not work with Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server, or any 64-bit version of Windows.
Also note that although the HP CP4525 “supports PostScript” it is not a printer with Adobe PostScript 3, but rather, CloneScript from a third party.
Having said that and understanding that you are currently using a PCL6 driver, I would recommend the following:
    (1)     Try using the PCL5C driver for the printer. PCL6 and its drivers was always dodgy anyway.
    (2)     Turn off the printer's automatic page description language sensing. That feature attempts to guess as to whether PCL or PostScript is currently being sent to the device and switch language processors. It really isn't necessary because HP's drivers prepend the print job with information as to which page description language is being used.
Given the unreliable nature of HP's emulation of PostScript, I would not recommend using any HP LaserJet's PostScript mode for any model of LaserJet in recent memory.

  • Printer prints only crap

what i am describing here has happened with a powermac G4 running panther as well as with the new macbook (black) with tiger.
both these computers as well as the printer are connected to the university network, the printer (HP laserjet 4250n) has an IP adress. i can set up the printer as an IP printer with the adress, it is found and recognized (and of course i have installed the driver). i can do the same by using the default browser option, then the computer recognizes the printer and says connection: bonjour. of course i can also directly connect to the printer with a usb cable. i have tried all of these options, with both computers, and from several applications, and the results are the same:
the printer prints and endless stream of pages with a few lines of nonsense on each of them, stuff like

  • Xerox Printer prints, but out comes pages and pages of garbled information!

My office Xerox (DocuPrint 210) printer isnt on the list. And i have downloaded the drivers and installed them but it doesnt show up on the list either. However before i upgraded to SL, the printer worked perfectly! i forgot what settings i put and what driver i used to get it working correctly.. I dont have a backup and i've wasted a few rims of paper just trying to print one test page.. I've tried all the Generic drivers and some dont work, some just print out garbage. HELP!

Ahh.. finally got it solved after going rounds and rounds of useless printing.
Tried everything from reseting settings, deleting folders, reinstalling, downloading the drivers from the xerox website.. bla bla all didnt work for me.
    Went here;
    http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs
    downloaded these..
    1. http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/macosx/gplgs-8.64so-ub.dmg
    2. http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/macosx/foomatic-rip-4.0.2.211.d mg
    3. http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/macosx/hpijs-3.9.2-ub.dmg
They must be installed in the order above or they wont install.
Then add new printer, IP, put in the IP, driver selected HP Laserjet Series PCL 6 CUPS. and it printed like new again.
I so thought i needed to throw away SL and downgrade back to Leopard.

  • HP Smart Web Printing (print is to small)

How can I make the font / text size bigger? When I print a web page it's so small I can't read it. I have a HP Photosmart C8180   all-in-one printer. Help Please  :-(

Problem "Smart Web Printing - Print too small"
I have experienced the same problem on Windows 7 / IE8 with Photosmart C6280, but same problem apparently(?) not on other PC running Windows XP Pro / IE8 with same printer.
Note: A clip ("cut" of a screen area) is NOT a piece of text, but an image, and "text" in the image is not directly editable.
Solution (mine): After cutting the desired area select clip in the SWP window (green tack in upper left corner of clip), click 'Edit' (or right click in selected clip and 'Edit this clip...'). In window 'Edit clip' popping up, select clip by clicking it. Clip now marked "selected" by dashed line with green corners. Enlarge clip på dragging (left mouse button) lower right corner to right. Print page.

  • Cannot Print to any Printer / Cannot Preview Print (Printing from Classic Reader Works)

I'm having the same problem noted here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/989426?esab=a&as=aaq
I will check if reinstalling printers helps - note that I'm trying to print to a virtual pdf printer. However, as the title suggests, I have been successful in printing from the Classic Reader found by navigating as per:
more > view using the classic reader
Once in that mode Print Preview is available and Print reveals all the relevant printers and the one I selected worked.
I'm sure that this is not the design intent. Feedback would be useful.
I would also point out that the circuitous path to register for support is confusing. I found this bug report in my search to find a way in:
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=972269
It seems daft to raise a new question to an old problem when replying to an existing discussion would be less time consuming and more logical to my way of thinking - refer bug report (seems I'm not alone in that view).

If you select the email and then use:
'3bar menu icon' > 'Print' > 'Print Preview'... is this also greyed out?
    Have you tried...
    * deselect and then reselect the printer as default via Control Panel > Printers?
    * uninstall and then reinstall printer?
    Can you post this info:
    * In Thunderbird, Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * click on 'Copy text to clipboard'
    * then use Ctrl+V to paste into this question.

It depends upon the capabilities of your printer. If you have an HP printer with a photo tray then the Photo app will print to whatever size you load in to that tray.
    There's some more information here:
Using AirPrint to Print Various Photo Sizes
With other printers the user is given a choice from the printer's loaded paper sizes. You can see an example of that here:

Not with the built-in AirPrint print function.  However, you can download free and cheap print apps that can provide some (limited) printing abilities.  HP's iPrint is one of those.

  • My hp wireless printer prints from computer

my hp wireless printer prints from computer, but not ipad or i phone. officejet 7500a no wires hooked up. wireless is working. router works and network works. please help

I assume you have enabled Web Services from the front of the printer?
First, try restarting your router by pulling its power plug momentarily.
If that does not work, let's set a static IP address & external DNS for the printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
    - Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS.
    - Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.

  • Printer prints off the wrong pages - HP Deskjet 3050 all-in-one J610 series

    I have a HP Desket 3050 all-in-one J610 and I am running Windows 7 64-bit.
I'm trying to print off some pages, first through google chrome and then through adobe reader, and the printer prints off the wrong pages. Eg, I told it to print of pages 41-64 odd only and I got all of the even pages. Now, if I try to print anything off, I get the odd page below and the settings are set to 'print all pages'. It was working fine a week ago and nothing's changed since then.
I tend to use fast draft paper quality as these are lectures notes and not particularly important, but I have tried the normal quality paper and it does the same thing.
    Could anybody help?

I am having the same problem as Daviemj with HP Desktop D110.  Really tired of the time it takes to use this printer. Solution?   Does anyone know of a good 3 in 1 printer?

  • Printer prints blank pages

I received a message low toner. Before I replaced the toner the printer printed blank pages. After I replaced the toner, the printer printed for awhile the same day and now prints blank pages. I took out the toner and moved it back and forth and replaced it and still nothing on the paper. Do I need a new printer? Thanks, Sally

    Regarding blank pages printing:
Which printer model do you have?
Does it print a blank self-test page?
What operating system are you printing from, and what application (if not all apps)?
    What driver are you using?
More info from you will help us offer suggestions to resolve the blank pages issue.

  • Why won't my printer print with Windows 8?

Why won’t my printer print with Windows 8?
Have you just upgraded, or purchased a new computer with Windows 8, and now you can’t get your printer to work?  If so, this may help you.  A lot of people have questions about installing their printer on a new OS.  This will help you answer those questions and make sure that you get everything installed.
    Before You Start
Before you try to install the printer on a Windows 8 computer, you should check to make sure the printer is compatible with the new OS.  The link below will give you a list of the printers that will work in Windows 8.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03168175&lc=en&cc=us&destPage=document&dlc=en
If you have upgraded your computer to Windows 8 form another version of Windows, make sure to completely uninstall all of the software for your printer.  It should still print, but to use all the functions you will need to reinstall the software, if it’s available.
Another thing to consider is how you want to connect the printer to the computer.
USB.  You should make sure that you have a USB cable that is no longer than 6 ft. (roughly 2m).  Make sure to connect the printer directly to the computer.  Do not use a USB hub.
Ethernet cable.  Make sure you have the network setup, that you have a free cable port on the router, and that you have an Ethernet cable available.
Wireless.  You should make sure that you have the wireless network setup, and that you have the password for the wireless network.
     1.     Installing Via USB
Installing via USB in Windows 8 has become much simpler for HP printer users.  In other versions of the Windows OS you had to start the installation and wait for it to ask you for the USB connection.  If you didn’t, you would have to uninstall the printer from the Printers/Devices folder, and then start the install.  In Windows 8, that will not be a problem.  If you plug the printer’s USB cable in and then install the printer’s software, it will still work.  Now for in depth instructions on installing the printer via USB click the link below.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03460670&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&la...
    2.     Installing Via an Ethernet Network Connection
For an Ethernet network connected printer the install is amazingly simple.  All you have to do is connect the printer to the network.  Once you have that done, Windows 8 will automatically install the drivers for you.  Then, all you have to do is install the rest of the software, if it’s available.  It’s really that easy.
    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html
    3.     Installing Via a Wireless Network Connection.
For a wireless network connected printer the install is amazingly simple as well.  All you have to do is connect the printer to the network.  Once you have that done, Windows 8 will automatically install the drivers for you.  Then, all you have to do is install the rest of the software, if it’s available.  It’s pretty much the same as an Ethernet install, just wireless.
    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html
    Alternate Install Methods
With Windows 8, many printers’ drivers are installed with the OS.  These are known as InOS drivers, since they come built into the operating system.  If you have one of those printers, all you should have to do is connect it to the computer via USB, or connect it to the network via Ethernet or wireless.  Once you have that done Windows will handle the rest.  There are alternate methods of installing your printer if the normal methods are not working for some reason.  You can install the printer either using the Printer Install Wizard, or through Windows Updates.
    Printer Install Wizard:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02681060&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&la...
    Windows Update:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03460648&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&la...
Note: The Laserjet drivers for the Asia-Pacific and Japan won’t be released until a later date.  Check the support site linked below for driver availability.  I will update this post once they become available.
