Printer profile default

I would like for the last used printer profile to be renabled following a shutdown in LR 2.1. Lightroom always defaults to "managed by printer" which is ok for my disub printers but not for my Epson inkjets. Have I overlooked a simple setting in prefs? I have lost a lot of time and paper and I can't seem to remember to reset it. Thanks jc

James, you can simply save print presets that contain your settings, including your print profile choice.
Jim, your feature request is probably better placed in the feature request forum rather than as a comment on an unrelated problem. :-)

    see question

    Hola Gustavo,
your task is for me not quite clear. I can see two scenarios:
    a) Calibrate the press for  ISONewspaper26v4 ink (your standard process) on salmon colored paper.
Print the target by press on this paper, measure and build the profile. There is no problem so far.
But preparing CMYK data with this profile for printing by press requires a very complicated gamut
compression, becauses the gamut of the actual process on salmon paper is small and excentric
in Lab. As mentioned in my previous post.
    b) Simulate the appearance of press prints on salmon paper, disregarding the salmon color by profiles.
This shall be done in your case by a toner printer.
The toner printer has to be calibrated with white paper. As a result one gets a valid Printer Profile.
The proof printing happens for a CMYK file, for instance a PDF/X-1a file so:
        Input profile: ISONewspaper26v4
        Output profile: Printer Profile
        Printed on salmon paper!
The printer profiling converts the toner printer into a more or less reliable proof printer. This has nothing
        to do with colored paper.

  • Printer Profiles in Lightroom 4

I have a Mac Mini and Lightroom 4.  I downloaded printer profiles from a local lab but don't know how to get Lightroom to recognize them for soft proofing and printing.

You need to put them in the correct location for the system to pick them up. This is in /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ or in ~/Library/ColorSync/Profiles. After you put the profile there, restart Lightroom and they will show up when you select other in the profile dialogs in Lightroom. Unfortunately in the last versions of Mac OS X, the finder hides these folders by default. Simply go into the Go Menu and select "Go to Folder" or hit Shift-command-G and type the above locations. The drag the profiles in the resulting finder window. If you're the only user on the machine either location is fine.

  • Color management/print profile setting in LR2

I tried to set a custom print profile in the LR2 Print Module. Specifically, I picked print to JPEG and under "Color Management" I picked "Profile/Other. When I pick other, an empty pick panel pops up. I use Vista 32 and under "\Windows\system32\spool\drivers\color" there are lots of ICC profiles available. How do I point LR2 to the location where Vista stores these profiles?

    franz:
    >As described in my opening problem description, I would like to print to JPEG and using the new LR2 ICC profile option provided under "Color Management" / "Profile/Other" and pick an ICC profile.
I'm not sure what the solution may be. When I chose to print to a .jpg file I see four profiles show up: sRGB, Adobe RGB, and Pro Photo RGB in addition to my normal printer profile. If I chose 'Other' then I see all of the profiles in C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color. If I deselect 'Include Display Profiles' then I only see those profiles associated with my default printer. I know that sRGB and Adobe RGB are installed by the disk that installed my V500 scanner drivers, but those are 'generic' files and may also have been installed by other driver software.
Note, none of the profiles in that folder were copied there by me. All 31 were installed either by a printer driver installation, monitor installation, or installation of my Epson V500 scanner.
Quite possibly some were there after I installed the system but before I installed any drivers--I can't say for sure because I never looked at that folder before installing drivers.

  • Elements 6 Printer Profile not showing up on Elements 10 when I go to Print

A third party created a printer profile that I successfully used on Elements 6. However that Printer Profile is not functioning with Elements 10. I would definitely like that Printer Profile to operate when I print on Elements 10. What to do to accomplish that goal? That's the overview. Here's the details: In Elements 10, I press Print. then Change Settings. Then Print Quality (Listed as default 720dpi,terrible print quality). Press Change. That takes me to Epson Stylus 3800 Properties. That box has the right Printer Profile I used in Elements 6. I press OK to get it embedded in Elements 10, but it won't embed and I'm stuck with the 720dpi default. Can someone help with this enigma? I thank you in advance for your time, expertise and willingness to help me!

  • Embedding printer profile in pdf doc? (e.g. forcing it to print Landscape)

    Hi there!
I just sent a client some .pdfs. They were exported from InDesign and are formatted for Landscape. The client wants to know if there's a way to ensure that the document will default to Landscape if a recipient tries to print them out (to save on paper and inconvenience).
I've looked around and couldn't find a solution to this. Any ideas / help would be hugely appreciated!!
    Thanks in advance!
    Stu

No, you can't do that. There's no such thing as an embeddable printer profile for PDF. And everyone has different printers with different capabilities and limitations.

  • Printer Profiles Not Visible in LR4 Mac

Hey guys, just checking to see if there is something I'm missing.
Short version: My printer profiles are not showing up in the "choose profile" dialog in LR4.
Long versioin: I'm trying to print an image from LR4 to my Xerox Phaser 8560 using a custom color profile I created with my ColorMunki. However the profile isn't showing up in the "choose profile" dialog box. There is also no apparent way to open a dialog box to search for the file. The profile is recently created. Works in Indesign CS4. It's located in the main Library/Colorsync/Profiles/ and my user (~/Library/Colorsync/Profiles/). It doesn't show up even when checking the "include display profiles" checkbox which is the only option available.
    System: iMac 27" 3.4Ghz i7 16G Ram; Xerox Phaser 8560DN; LR 4.0
    Am I missing something here?
    Thanks,
    Jason

You likely made a CMYK profile for the printer and LR doesn't support CMYK profiles. You'll have to remake the profile to be an RGB profile. ColorMunki can do that although it'll default to CMYK unless you override that...

  • Which printer profile do I use?

I have a Epson Stylus Photo R360 printer connected to a Intel Mac running OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard.  I am currently using Adobe Lightroom 3 as my main image browser and would like to know what the correct profile is to use to gain desirable prints when using Epson Premium gloss paper.  At the moment I am trying to print Canon CR2 camera raw image files and find that when I try to output these they come out very dark and over saturated.  If I just use the "managed by printer" option and then the "layout" option in the print dialogue, I get better results but not perfect! Do I need to set up a different print profile within Lightroom?  If I turn off "managed by printer" in the Lightroom dialogue I get many profiles to choose from (see below) so would appreciate it if you could advise me on this.  I have turned off the printer management as shown below - if this is correct! Other than trying out each profile on the list I don't know what to do. I would greatly appreciate any help on this please.

First, I second the previous post that your monitor needs to be calibrated and most important that the brightness is not set too high.
Even if your monitor has been calibrated, the brighntess might still be too high. Strangely enough, some calibration softwares recommend a brightness that is too high.
Your monitor brightness should be set to between 100 - 120, or else your prints will come out too dark.
Secondly, when you select "managed by printer" make sure that in the printer's dialog you select proPhoto RGB. By default most printers (I don't know the Epson R360) are set to sRGB.
LR by default (and it cannot be changed) uses proPhoto RGB (or to be precise a color space derived from proPhoto RGB).
When you select "managed by printer", LR sends the image file to the printer as proPhoto RGB and the printer interprets it as sRGB. The result is a print that is overly saturated.
So in a way you have to make sure that LR and your printer speak the same language. You can do it in two ways:
    1) Let LR manage the colors by selecting a profile for your printer AND the paper you are using. You then have to switch off your printer's color management by selecting "Application managed" (or similar wording) in the printer's dialog.
    2) Or you select "printer managed". In your printer's dialog you then have to select proPhoto RGB, or Adobe RGB but NOT sRGB. The prints will probably not be optimal when your printer's dialog does not give you the option of proPhoto RGB. If you have Photoshop, you could change the color space of your image to Adobe RGB or even to sRGB and thus achieve that your imgage's color space and the printer's color space match exactly.

  • Missing Printer Profiles in InDesign

I have just installed CS4 on my Macbook Pro/10.6.2 which had lots of printer profiles on it.  When I try to print and go to the Color Management section of the print dialog box, the Printer Profile drop down is greyed out and inaccessible.  No default option is shown in the drop down.  In Photoshop's print dialog, I can see the printer profiles.  So, I am confident they are installed correctly (and I have checked my Colorsync folders to confirm this).
What could be stopping InDesign from accessing them?
    Thanks!

Thanks much for your help.  But, I'm having no luck.  I have tried the following:
    1) Making an alias of /Library/ColorSync/Profiles and putting it into /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/
    2) Making an alias of every profile in /Library/ColorSync/Profiles and putting them into /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles/
    3) Copying one profile into an empty /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles/
After each effort, I would quit and restart InDesign.  Each time, the drop down is greyed out and inaccessible with no option displayed.

  • Printer profiles LR & PSCS2

On my Vista x64 desktop , profiles for my Epson R2400 printer which have been loaded do not appear in either LR nor PSCS2. Other profiles, default PSCS and others I have loaded are present. HELP!!!!!

    John,
In the case of the R800, 3.0 has been around for about one year. However, 3.09 was first posted to Epson Europe on 29 October 07 and 6 November 07 to Epson Oceania (Australia and New Zealand). The driver is supposed to be fully compatible with Leopard, but I have no way of checking. According to both Europe and Oceania, drivers for the remaining R series printers (1800, 1900 and 2400) are due out later this month.

  • Printer Profiles and Onscreen proofing

Is there a way to adjust the options for Onscreen Proofing with ICC profiles in Aperture?
I downloaded and installed the Premium ICC printer profiles for the Epson Stylus Photo R2400 printer and have noticed an issue when I use Onscreen Proofing with these profiles, especially the matte ones. The screen display is muted as if the contrast is lowered and the colors compressed. I viewed the same image in Photoshop with Proof Colors and did not see this problem until I turned Simulate Paper Color on in the Customize Proof Condition dialog. Then the image took on the same appearance. Interestingly, the problem does not occur when I use the Epson profiles that are installed by default with the software that comes with the printer. The images print fine in Aperture (better than from Photoshop) using either the premium or default profile. I just can't use the premium profiles for onscreen proofing.
The bottom line is that the Epson Premium ICC printer profiles appear to be incorrectly built and do not simulate paper color accurately. In addition, Aperture appears to simulate paper color by default and I can't find a way to turn it off. This is unfortunate since the default Epson profiles, which are less accurate for printing, provide more accurate onscreen proofing.

  • Windows Printer Profiles

Please can someone tell me if it's possible to save print profiles on printer drivers shared by SMB?
I have followed several posts/internet how-tos on setting up automatic download of printer drivers to Windows machines from our Xserve and it appears to be working fine.
We have an HP Color LaserJet 4700N using the latest driver from HP. We have set the driver to default to printing in grayscale to save color toner. Some documents we print need to be printed on a specific paper with color so I wanted to save a "Print Task Quick Sets" to allow the user to specify this without having to remember all the options. When I edit the server printer properties it appears to save the "Quick Sets" but after closing the dialog and re-opening, the "Quick Sets" are missing. Is this supposed to work with Samba sharing or am I expecting too much?
If it should be working, is there something I should check/do to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Richard.

  • Printers not listed after printer profile installed

I've been enrolling a number of Macs in Profile Manager and trying to push printer configs out to the Macs. It seems to work well enough - the clients receive the printers and are able to print. But with the printer profile installed, no printers are listed in System Preferences > Printers & Scanners. I can see that the printers are present from the lpstat command and if I open a document or webpage and try to print, all printers are listed and usable. As soon as I remove the printer profile, printers are once again visible. This is happening on all client computers.
I have tried resetting the print system on clients (both through the UI and by just replacing /etc/cups/cupsd.conf and other similar files with their defaults), and this problem still occurs. I've also removed all profiles (including trust profile and enrollment profile) from clients, removed the computer from the server's config, removed printer profiles on the server, and then tried re-adding and re-applying a brand new profile. Still no luck. Even a brand new client with a brand new profile ends up with its printers being hidden in the System Preferences UI.
I suspect there must be something wrong on the server rather than on the clients, perhaps some file that I need to replace with default config, though I don't really know where to start looking.
Any ideas? All suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
    System Version: OS X 10.10.2 (Build 14C109)
Server Version: Server 4 (Build 14S333)

I have actually seen this as well but have no clue what causes this issue. It's annoying because I have also seen this happen where it will hide local printers.

  • Screen & Printer Profile settings CS3

    Hello there,
I have been given completely varying (and conflicting) information from different sources (internet, colleagues, suppliers, lecturers) and want to put to bed how is best to set up color profiles.
    Kit:
    Windows 7 PC
Printer Epson R2880 with continious ink flow system
    Custom Photo Paper
    LG Monitor
    Photoshop CS3
Below is how I set up my colour profiles in the pc control panel:
Printer Default Profile (applied under color management, devices):
Photo paper / Ink Company give us a custom profile for the printer / paper / ink combo we have
Monitor Default Profile (applied under color management, devices):
Custom profile created by us using an Xrite i1 display pro
Photoshop Color Settings (Edit, Color settings):
"Working Space RGB" - i select the custom profile that I created for the monitor - this doesn't seem right
"Management Policies - convert to working RGB"
    Print settings:
Select the Epson Printer and also select" color management tab" (rather than "output")
"Document selected" ticked in brackets says "custom RGB profile"
"Color Handling - Photoshop Managed Colors" is selected
"Printer Profile - custom printer profile" is selected (this is the same one applied to the printer elsewhere)
"Perceptual" & Black Point Compensation are also selected
I feel like I am double applying profiles, very lost and needing help (one socalled professional I spoke to didn't even know you could manually apply a profile in windows to a device, he just always selected using print preferences in photoshop!)
I used to work in a pro photolab and colors are critical, with the digital era I find getting from what is on the screen to the print very difficult to get accurate and more consistent.
Any help and opinions would be greatly appreciated .
    Thanks

    Steve,
Have you tried a custom RGB test sheet (maybe with notes on settings written into it for each combination) and a waste of raw materials?

  • LR and Printer Profiles

Okay... I shoot in RAW. I make adjustments in LR before I make the move to my final edits in PS. SO every change I made in LR becomes worthless. What AM I  doing wrong?

You should NEVER assign the profile. You should convert to it. Costcos will get you very good prints if you convert to their profile or simply use sRGB.
Since you are doing this in PS. Your workflow should be to softproof to the drycreek profile, adjust (typically using adjustment layers) for any color shifts that you don't like. And then finally convert to the profile. Then you want to save as a jpeg, stripping out the profile, and upload the resulting jpeg to costcophotocenter.com. Make sure you set it to full resolution (very obnoxious that it defaults to scaling down your picture) and make sure you turn off their color correction.
P.S. drycreek's website explains all this in detail
Lastly, as Seán (never noticed the accent on the a before!) notes using printer profiles is useless if you do not accurately calibrate your monitor.
