Printer queue keeps stopping

I’m trying to print to Adobe Acrobat (the only working “printer” I have right now) The PDF file does not appear in the chosen destination.
So I go to print Center. In the Printer list window, though it says “Printing,” I see the message:
“Printing of jobs for this printer is stopped. Do you want to continue and restart the printing of jobs? If you select continue and the printing of jobs cannot be restarted, this job will automatically be added to the queue.”
I choose “Restart.” In the Printer window it shows the progress bar.
Finally, after a long time processing, it says at the top of the Printer window, “Jobs Stopped.” (?) The file is added to the bottom of the list in the Printer window (by now a fairly long list). No file appears in the specified location.
If I click the “Start Jobs” icon, it goes through the same rigamarole and still no files appear, and again it says “Jobs Stopped.” The files remain in the list of files still to be printed.
I can create a PDF through the Mac’s “Save as PDF"button at the bottom of the print dialog, but not through Acrobat.

I don't have an answer, but I do have exactly the same problem! I was previously able to print wireless from my laptop PC and from my desktop PC to the printer connected to USB port of the AEBS. Now, I can print only if I connect the printer directly to one of the PC's with the USB cable.
I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with Apple technical support. We tried rebooting the AEBS, and well as Restarting it from the menu.
I was able to print if I set up the printer via a shared connection to my MacBook Pro with the printer connected by Ethernet cable, but that is not an acceptable solution, since it means that the MacBook Pro has to be turned on in order to print from the PC.
I have even exchanged the AEBS for a new one at the Apple store, but I am still not able to resolve this issue.
Apple Technical Support ended the conversation by saying they do not provide support for Bonjour printing problems on a PC.
This must be a software problem, because I have been able to get this functionality to work for my customers who have AEBS's in a mixed computer environment.

  • Print spooler keeps stopping on Windows 7

I have an HP desktop computer running Windows 7 it has an HP photosmart Printer and an Kodak AIO 5500 attached to it and shared over the network. Everything is fine with the HP printer but every time I try to print to the Kodak the print spooler keeps
stopping. I have tried many of the work arounds I have found but nothing helps. Every time I try to print to the KOdak I have to wait until after I have made all the print option and then I have to start the spooler.  The firmware and software is up to
date on the Kodak printer.  How can I fix this?

    Hi,
I would like to suggest you perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.
Clear Printer Spooler Files and Enable the Spooler Service
    =================================
    1. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the Search box and press Enter.
    2. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list.
    3. Click Stop and click OK.
    4. Click Start, type "%WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers" in the Start Search box and press Enter, delete all files in this folder.
    5. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the Start Search box and press Enter.
    6. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list.
    7. Click on Start. In the Startup Type list, make sure that "Automatic" is selected and click OK.
    Does it work?
    Regards,
    Arthur Li - MSFT
Thanks Arthur. Your solution worked for me and I now have both my printers back in use. I am using Windows 7 and IE9. Suspect that clicking the Print button on an internet site yesterday when reserving an item for collection at the local outlet of
a national high street retailer may have caused the problem.

  • Why is my HP Deskjet 970C  Print Queue Status  "Stopped" and won't change?

I recently installed 10.5 Leopard. Hooked up my old HP-970C Deskjet. Used the link: http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/foomatic to get the new HP Driver as recommended. Set up printer with this driver.
Each time the print command is given (Word Doc or .pdf file) nothing happens. The job is shown in the Print Queue with the Status says "Stopped." Clicking the resume button does not start the printer. Twice more and I get a message that says "Operation Could not be completed. client-error-not-possible."
Any thoughts on how to work around this?
Tried the six steps listed at: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01462601&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us &lang=en&softwareitem=bi-54970-4&os=219&rule=5837&product=3435684
Even those great steps did not help. Any other ideas? Thanks!!!

The short answer is that you have an older HP printer, and have just been bitten by HP's abandonment of older printers on both Leopard and Vista.
The foomatic drivers should work, though; I used foomatic drivers on my old HP MFD for years. They gave better output than the ones HP shipped, and actually worked in Leopard. I put the HP onto a machine running XP because scanning didn't work anymore on either Vista or Leopard and HP had no intention of fixing it.
When I see the error you quoted, there are usually three possible causes:
1 the printer itself has a hardware problem. The fix for that is to buy a new printer, it's not economic to repair a DJ970.
2 the HP drivers are present on the system and are interfering. The fix for that is to remove the HP drivers and just have the foomatic drivers installed.
3 the USB cable is bad or loose. The fix for that is to get a new USB cable and make sure that it is securely plugged in.

  • Print Queue suddenly stopped: OS X 10.4.10 and Bonjour via AirPort

I've been using an Intel iMac with no problems for many months: 2 printers attached: 1 inkjet via USB, and 1 HPLJ1200 via Bonjour through Airport/USB.
    System Version: Mac OS X 10.4.10 (8R2218),
    Kernel Version: Darwin 8.10.1
Suddenly, the Bonjour one has stopped. One minute it's printing, next minute, all jobs go into a queue but never emerge. The printer queue shows in the dock with a red "!" with all jobs in that queue stopped. If I restart the queue, it just tries to restart (green) then reverts to red "!" again. The direct USB printer continues to work fine. Problem is confined to the Bonjour printer.
    I've tried:
    1. Checking all the cables etc. Turning everything off, then one by one on. Restarting iMac, etc.
And then (after a few experiences of others on the Forums):
    2. Verifying and fixing permissions via Disk Utility (there were no problems to fix)
    3. Uninstalling the HPLJ, and then reinstalling.
    4. Installing a 2nd instance of the HPLJ to bypass the first instance (which has a little grey "!" next to it in the Print dialogue box)
    All to no avail.
    I've then tried:
    5. OnyX, running maintenance scripts, cleaning caches.
    Still no good.
    6. Finally, I've looked into the CUPS Error Log via OnyX, and I can see a number of Errors (see transcript at end of this email). I have removed the HPLJ from the printer setup, then reinstalled it. The CUPS Error Log for this is shown below, from removal, to reinstallation.
Is there a Unix or OSX expert in the forum who can help please?
    Many thanks
    LeslieB

    Dear All
I have been able to partially solve this problem myself.
I've managed to track the problem down to the Apple Airport Express (which is hosting the USB printer via Bonjour). The problem seems to be that the iMac can't see the printer, even thought it's connected.
It turns out that the problem started at the time of an internet outage, and the iMac can't seem to find the printer since that time (even though Bonjour is working fine).
I've tried resetting the Airport Express, and even upgrading the firmware, but no luck so far.
I'll close this posting, and put a new one in the Airport Express Forum.
many thanks to those who viewed this in the interim.

  • Print Queue Auto Stop

Just though I'd share this with others.
Unlike Tiger, the printer queues would not quit automatically on Leopard after a job is finished. The solution was simple.
If no queue is running, go to System Preferences > Print & Fax. Click on ANY installed printer then click on the 'Open Print Queue' button.
Now navigate to the Dock, control-click (or Right Click) on the running Printer Queue. In the pop up menu is "Auto Quit" (right above "Keep In Dock"), click on it so it is check marked. Now ANY Printer Queue will quit when the job(s) are finished. Making just one Printer Queue "Auto Quit" sets it for all installed printers!
Seems I've been fortunate and have had no problems with my 5 printers transitioning to Leopard, so I hope this tip is helpful to others.
    Cheers

Thanks for this info. Just what I need. Not intuitive at all. Jim

  • Printer spooler keeps stopping

Windows 8.1. I have checked the printer spooler service it is configured correctly as far as I can tell. Set to start automatically, restart on the first and second failure. The dependencies look ok.
I have tried to remove unwanted printers from 'Devices and printers'. They keep coming back after a reboot. Some of these are shared printers that no longer exist on the host machine. They all remove except one which stubbornly refuses to budge.
I try installing my new cannon printer, it starts the installation but then fails because the printer spooler service is not running.
    - Processing cannot be continued because the Windows Print Spooler service has been stopped. Start the Print Spooler service and then try again.
I restart the printer spooler service and try again. Same problem.
I restart the machine. Same problem.
I have no idea why it keeps stopping. How do you get the service to log errors.
I have tried to use the Troubleshooting application. It states 'the printer spooler service is not running' and restarts it. One tries to reinstall the printer, same problem.
How does one fix this problem? Is there a tool to remove all printers and start again?

Every time I reboot I get the same printers in 'devices and printers' even though I have removed them. Also there is one printer that will not be removed. If I try and then hover the mouse cursor over the printer icon, the tool tips displayed are
    "Remove failed"
    "Driver does not exist"
Ok. I don't give a stuff about the missing driver, I just want to remove it. Why  does a missing driver prevent me from removing a printer. I though that if the driver was missing it would indicate that the printer is inoperable and make removing it
    even easier.
How on earth does one get around this embargo. How does one get rid of dud printers from the control panel applet?
I am sure that these remnant printers are causing the print spooler service to keep crashing.

  • Print to PDF Causes print Queue to stop

My user has been having a lot of difficulties with Acrobat 11 (For Windows 7). When she tries to use the Adobe PDF printer and print to PDF, occasionally it will lock up the print queue and will not complete. It also will not release the prints. I have to run a repair on Adobe as restarting the spool service or going into the spool folder and trying to delete the items does not work.
I have run the repair several times and most recently totally uninstalled and re installed Acrobat, made sure all updates were applied but each time it temporarily fixes the issue for a few days and ends up coming back. Any ideas of what I can do next?

Yes, this is caused by the HP 2.10 update.
    Among other threads: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4197112?tstart=0
    Remove /Library/Printers/hp/PDEs/hpPostScriptPDE.plugin.
    Hope this helps.

  • Print Jobs Keep Stopping

I have an Epson 6600 printer attached to my New Intel iMac. I send jobs to the printer and they show up in the list of jobs to print, but the status says "Jobs Stopped." When I click on the Start Jobs button the progress bar starts, then it says Jobs Stopped again! I can do a printer self test with no problem. I have repaired permissions, and restarted the printer and the computer.
My printer just won't start jobs! What can I do?

    Hello Kevin,
To determine why the spooler is stopping we need to look at the cups error log. This is located in the Console application. With it open, click on the Logs icon and then expand the /var/log entry. Then expand the cups entry. Under here you will see the error_log. The error will be shown with an E to the left and show what process failed. To determine what that process was look back up the log for the process ID (PID) for that print job. It will probably show a filter or plugin that is stopping the print.
Now the repair permissions is usually enough to fix this. But sometimes you need to do this after booting from the OS X disc and running the Disk Utility from here so that the cups daemon hasn't started.
If that doesn't help then look at trying Fixamac's Printer Setup Repair utility and/or running the Intel Combo updater.

  • Print Spooler keeps stopping............

I have a HP Lasjet 1022 that is connected locally to the PC.
It crashes the print spooler, I have uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers and still no success.
I have started the RPC services on the server and local machine.
However in the C://windows/system32/spool/printers folder there are two strange .dll files (Shockwave i believe), I delete them and the spooler works fine for a week then crashes again, with the files appearing in the same place.
Is there a patch or a fix for this...........
    Thanks

What operating system? Do you have a 32 bit or 64 bit version?  What exactly are the filenames for the .dll files?

  • Windows 7 print spooler keeps stopping

I have two printers. Both HP, one is a PSC 1317 and the other is a Deskjet 710c. Windows will install the drivers correctly. The PSC1317 uses the drivers as supplied by HP. The Deskjet 710c uses a basic driver supplied by Microsoft.
The problem starts when i try to print anything. I get the message "Windows cannot connect to the printer. The local print spooler is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine"
If i restart the machine, and try to print, I get the same message. If i restart the Print Spooler, i get the same message.
I have tried numerous uninstalls and reinstalls of the drivers for both printers. I have redownloaded the software from HP on 3 different systems to rule out file corruption but to no avail.
    I am using windows 7 Ultimate x64
When i search for the problem on the web, i cannot find anything to do with the problem for Windows 7, only XP and Vista soutions come up
Does anyone have any answers? As i need the printers for printing out my coursework which is due in next week.

There is a known issue with the Deskjet 710c in 64 bit versions of Vista or Windows 7 that crashes the spooler.  There is a patch to correct this available here.

  • Print queue stops automatically

when trying to print a document (from whichever program I've tried), the document appears to be sent to my printer (Lexmark Optra R plus), but then the print queue automatically stops. After I start the the print queue again, the printer works for some seconds, and then the print queue will stop again. It doesn't seem to be a problem related to the printer itself, as it is printing without problems when I send the document from another computer.
Any help is highly appreciated !

  • 10.4.6 (PPC) + iPhoto 6.0.4 + Epson CX4600 Print Queue stops

Trying to print to an Epson CX4600 all-in-one printer/scanner device from iPhoto 6.0.4 on an iMac G5 running OS X 10.4.6 causes the print queue to stop.
The CUPS error_log (with LogLevel = debug) says:

    E [29/Jun/2006:04:32:06 -0400] PID 354 stopped with status 85!
I've tried deleting /Library/Printers/EPSON and /Library/Receipts/EpsonPrinterDrivers.pkg prior to reinstalling the Epson drivers from Tiger's install disks.
The printing system's been reset to delete all queues and printers.
The Epson's been added back using Printer Setup Utility -> Add -> Printer Browser -> More Printers... -> EPSON USB -> Add. (there's no option given to choose a Page Setup option in that dialog box, it's all greyed out)
Checked that the page setup, media size and type are all as they should be, and tried a different USB port (directly connecting - no hub)
Prints OK from TextEdit, but iPhoto's a no-no.
Anyone got a clue what the CUPS error message is trying to tell me? There's a full transcript of a failed printing attempt error log at http://web.org.uk/cupsfailed.txt if anyone's interested.
Two days spent trying to nail this one with no success.
    Powerbook G4 1.5GHz 15in   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Turns out the solution was to use Printer Setup Repair from Fix-a-Mac.
Used it to backup the printing system, then pushed all its buttons and rebooted. Result, printer auto-detected and set up correctly and the iPhoto printing problem is apparently resolved.

  • Print Queue "Stopped" after restarting...

I'm having problems with a Print Queue that keeps reverting to "stopped". I'll restart it using either Printer set-up utility or Server Admin but when a job goes through it just stops again.
The printer is set up to print using IPP and is set to enforce quotas (not that that should stop the print queue anyway).
Please HELP as i've got 80 students wanting to print!
    Here's the Print Error Log...

I've had problems with the print queues in 10.4.x not taking print jobs after the server is restarted. Do a port scan on the server to see if port 515 is open. If it isn't then try restarting the print service on the server. Port scan the server again and see if port 515 is open. If it is open now try printing. I also had problems with ipp printing so have reverted all my clients to LPR. Some client machines I have switched to direct ip printing to the printer. The print queues in 10.4.x haven't been very reliable. I hope this helps.

  • Printer keeps stopping jobs

I have an Epson Stylus CX4200. It keeps stopping all my jobs, even after I tell it to "start jobs". I have tried deleting the printer in my print menu (in system preferences) and then adding it again. I have also tried simply turning the printer off and on again, and I even replaced all of the ink cartridges. When I try to open the "help" menu in the print window, it says there is no help available for this printer. Yikes - what to do now? Please help.

Is the printer connected directly to your computer, or are you accessing it via a network?
With my Epson, I have problems printing from a laptop via the network at times. To fix it, I have to go to the desktop to which the printer is attached, open the printer (thru System Preferences), and clear the queue there (by deleting all the jobs). Then I tell the printer to restart (still on the desktop).
Be sure to also clear the queue on your laptop, and tell the printer to restart there.
    Hope this helps --

  • "Printing" keeps stopping

Every time I click “Print” in the Print dialog, I keep getting the message:
“Printing of jobs for this printer is stopped. Do you want to continue and restart the printing of jobs? If you select continue and the printing of jobs cannot be restarted, this job will automatically be added to the queue.”
I choose “Continue.” Print Center automatically launches and when I switch to it I see the progress bar, but then it says “Jobs Stopped.” (?) The file is added to the bottom of the list in the Printer window (by now a fairly long list).
If I click the “Start Jobs” icon, the same thing happens and the files remain in the list of files still to be printed.
I don't think it is a printer issue since the same thing happens when i try to “print” to Adobe Acrobat. I can create a PDF through the Mac’s “Save as PDF"button at the bottom of the print dialog, but not through Acrobat.
    Why does printing keep stopping?

This is not unusual with some operating systems and depending on your printer.
Often, again depending on both mentioned above sometimes when spooling to the printer if you are low on ram it will take an extended period to read and transfer the data from the computer to the printer. and sometimes will stop the printing process alltogether.
The only way I have been able to correct this issue is to Unplug your printer for a minute or so and shut your computer off also.
After your wait plug your Printer back in and then restart your computer. This Resets your Printer and Resets your Computer as well.
Next you will need to empty your QUE and start all over and I would advise doing each print job one at a time,
The reason I say this is as I mentioned above, Low on Ram, If by chance Ram is not the issue I have found that downloading Open source drivers for your printer will sometimes do the trick but if you are short on ram the transfer rate probably can't handle the amount of data you are trying to print.
    Cheers Don
