Printer selection problems iPhoto 6

Since upgrading to iPhoto 6, I have to change my default printer in the printer setup utility in order to print to the printer I want. Before the upgrade I simply selected the printer I wanted to print on in the print menu (just like in any other application!) and no problem. Now when I want to print on my Epson R300 instead of my HP3330, which is my normal default printer, I have to make the Epson the default and then switch it back when I'm done printing. If I don't do this iPhoto prints to the HP3330 even thogh I've selected the Epson in the print dialogue. This is new problem and is unique to iPhoto as all my other applications print as they should once I select the desired printer. Anybody know why this is happening or how to fix it?
Thanks in advance

I have the same problem w/ iphoto 06! I suddenly cannot print my photos to my HP photosmart unless I change it to my default printer... even if I have selected photosmart in the drop down menu... the image is still sent to my other hp printer?

Hello. I feel your pain and frustration with the print selection problem in safari, especially in Snow Leopard. I have spent hours trawling help pages and forums etc. BUT YEE HAA (sorry got a bit excited, but it really was hours) I found the answer. So here goes.
    Click on Safari
Scroll down to services then slide to right
Scroll down to services preferences and click
Scroll down to the Text section
If you Tick the Text box it will choose all options for you. Or if you don't want all options in the Text list, then untick Text box and tick options you do want.
BUT for your print selection problem make sure you tick NEW TEXT EDIT WINDOW CONTAINING SELECTION.
Then when you want to select something in a web page you want to print (including pictures etc) then highlight it, then Right click. And low and behold, in the list is NEW TEXT EDIT WINDOW CONTAINING SELECTION. Click that, Then press cmd+p and your printing.
I really hope that helps with your problem

  • Printer selection problems

I had to reinstall my PSE 10 and my HP printer prem410 series and when I select the printer in PSE it goes to the 410 series fax printer, no matter what I choose.  The prem 410 series printer is set as the system default and other programs correctly go to it.  How do I get it to go to the printer I select?

    Kent,
This is a known issue, esp. with HP Printers. See here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/865/cpsid_86566.html
In Windows, go to Control panel>Devices and Printers. Right click on the default printer, go to Printer Properties, and change the name to something short, e.g. MyPrinter.
I don't know how to do do it on a Mac.

  • Can no longer print selected iPhoto photo with HP printer

iPhoto 09. Cannot print selected iPhoto photo with HP printer. I select the photo from iPhoto Library, go to File>print. The screen for Print comes up with another one on top of it that is blank but with text "Print...Processing 1..OK".  Clicking OK prints from that screen "Print, Processing page 1" (on correct 3x6 photo paper in black!).
I have run Apple Software Update. Run Permissions with problems (one: "Permissions differ on Library/Printers/h...". Have reinstalled iPhoto which has left one icon on Dock and 3 on desktop: iPhoto 07-27-19.app; iPhoto.app; iPhoto Library that I don't know what to do with with them, so just use the one on the dock which opens iPhoto Library.
Believe I read that after reinstalling iPhoto, a plug-in (possibly third party plug-in for HP?) must be installed. I have updated my HP printer to latest driver.
Would you advise how I can print photos in my iPhoto Library again, and also get those iPhoto icons off my desktop which only confuse me.  Thank you for your prompt attention.
    Out-of-patience Great Gramma

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • IPhoto Printing - sizing problems

After many hours of frustration I am about to give up on iPhoto 7.1 printing. The Print Settings dialog does not match the choices of settings or paper sizes of my printer. I enter a custom size [tedious to have to do when it is a standard photo paper size such as "L"], enter, then when I add a border the paper size reverts to A4. If I don't add a border or otherwise customize the picture, then go to "print" on checking the advanced print options the paper size does not match that set in the "Print Settings" dialog. Even if the preview looks right the print size does not match. I called into my local Apple store and tried this at the Genius Bar - they found the same issue on their Mac and after an hour of head scratching they could not figure it out. Any thoughts? This should be dead easy - I am back to adding borders in PS and printing from Aperture; not what I want to do for snapshots.

    Daniel:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Can you provide a little more info regarding the paper sizes available, printer type, etc. Not familiar with paper size "\L\". What language is you Mac set up for? What sizes are you trying to print? Are you cropping the images to the paper size selected beforehand?
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Problem iPhoto 09 & Printing with Epson R2880

I have an Epson R2880 and I'm having print driver problems with iPhoto 09. I am using a Dual Processor G5 PowerMac running OS X 10.5.8. I've tried contacting Epson Support about this but they refuse to accept that the problem is anything to do with them. They insist that the problem is Apple's and that I should contact them about this.
The problem is this, my R2880 recently stopped working normally with iPhoto 09.  It did this after a cartridge change from Photo Black to Matt black.  This problem only affects iPhoto.  My R2880 works normally with all the other programs that I use to edit or print images namely Lightroom 2.6, Photoshop CS3, Photoshop Elements 6, Apple Preview & Bridge CS3. I have tried connecting my R2880 to a powered USB socket on my computer and via a hub and I get the problem in both cases.
By not working properly I mean that the normal Print Settings part of the printer driver menu is now not available when I try and print from iPhoto. Instead, the printer driver now displays a menu item called Printer Features that not only appears to be incomplete, it also does not offer the functionality of the normal Print Settings menu.   Actually, in addition to Print Settings, the Page Layout Settings & Paper Configuration are all now missing from the iPhoto Print Driver dialogue.
When I first installed the R2880 printer driver (back in November when I bought the printer) I also discovered that I had this problem with iPhoto.  After installation, the R2880 worked with all my programs except iPhoto.
I contacted Epson support about this. They advised that I re-install the driver after downloading it from the Epson website.  I did this.  It did not solve the problem.  In the end I found that I needed to reinstall iPhoto 09. Once I had done that, it too then worked properly with the R2880 ie the Print Settings part of the printer driver menu was now present.  This was the case until I changed cartridges as described above.
Strangely, I have also found that I can get iPhoto to display the normal Print Settings part of the menu but only if I do not select the R2880 as the printer when I first select Print from the File Menu in iPhoto.  When you select Print from the File Menu it brings up an additional Menu that asks you to select the printer you want to use.  I have three printers, an Epson D120, an Epson R2880 and a Dymo Labelwriter 450.
If I select the R2880 and then press the Print Button , the Print Driver that is then displayed contains the non functioning Printer Features as described above.  Strangely, if I select the D120 and then press the Print Button and then change the printer selection to the R2880 when the Print Driver is displayed,  the Printer Driver then displays the normal Print Settings.
I'm be interested to know if any other R2880 users have experienced this problem with iPhoto 09. As I said above, Epson insist that as the driver works normally with other programs the problem is with iPhoto and therefore I should contact Apple. This isn't really a practical: I have no Apple care as my machine is five years old and Apple only give 90 days telephone support with software.
I maintain that as the driver isn't installing properly with iPhoto 09 that the problem is an Epson one.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

If you run CS5 or LR as a 32bit application you will have all these option available to you. You can then save these options as presets that can then be applied when you are running the applications in 64bit mode even if you can not access them individually.
Also you might want to check Epson's download site especially the European site to see if there are newer drivers or updates for your printer. The newest drivers for other printers like the 7600/9600 support application running in 64bit mode.

  • Hi!  I am trying to print pictures from iPhoto.  I follow the directions and select a photo and click file-print-but it doesn't give me any size/printing options.  Instead I get a message that says "no themes available".  Do I need to install themes?

Hi-I am trying to print pictures from iphoto.  I selected a picture and tried file-print.  But instead of giving me size/layout options, it gave me a message, "no available themes".  Not sure what to do next--something I need to install?

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Installing FF cause tray selection problem on printer

After installing Firefox cannot print selected trays. Just prints to bypass.

I experienced the same problem with our Canon imageRUNNERs on Leopard using the Canon PPD's. If I used the Canon PS driver the same symptom did not occur, however for some apps it was necessary to use the ppd's only.
The only workaround I found was to print via paper type rather than paper source. By selecting to print via paper type, this meant that if A3 heavy card stock was loaded in the stack bypass, as well as A3 80gsm plain paper in one of the trays, only the paper from the bypass was selected.
I don't believe it is ppd corruption. It has more to do with CUPS not parsing the ppd data correctly. For the drivers that do not rely on CUPS, such as the Canon PS driver and the new imagePASS (Fiery) drivers, the same issue does not occur.

  • Problem with printing selection of web page

Print selection function from webpage don't print correctly. If text is marked then first line of text is printed not correct (printed only lower part of line). If text is longer than one page there is similar problem at the end of first page and begining of second. The problem occurs on HP LaserJet 4015 printer, and PDF creator too. Firefox 18.0.2 and firefox 19.0 , Windows 7 64bit

Hi mrbcl1, unfortunately the answer is that Firefox has some bugs when it comes to printing selections!
Typically, where the top of the selection is cut off, it means that Firefox is applying some style rules meant to position that part of the page on screen -- even though they are irrelevant when printing a selection. There's no built-in way to get Firefox to ignore those rules. You can try a different selection (keep more stuff above) or other interventions, but it can be a waste of time in many cases.
Here are two workarounds. In both cases, the idea is to isolate the selected part of the page (hide everything else) so you can print it ''normally'', bypassing the limitations of the Print Selection feature.
    (1) Use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nuke-anything-enhanced/ Nuke Anything Enhanced extension]
See: [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/927457#answer-333518 When using print selection in Firefox 12.0, it prints wherever the selection is on the page (on paper) instead of at the top of the page (of paper).]
    (2) Use a bookmarklet (snippet of JavaScript saved as a button on your bookmarks toolbar) to isolate the selection for printing.
This is the technique I generally use due to force of habit. The details are in [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/943039#answer-384875 this post].

  • Having a problem printing photos from Iphoto.  Seems that "themes" are required in order to accomplished the task.  Where are the Themes found?

Where can I find the themes, possibly formats, for printing photos for Iphotos?  Are these still being used or have they been upgraded to another program such as ilife?

You'll need to reinstall iPhoto.  If you MBP came with Lion preinstalled move the iPhoto applicaiton to the Trash bin in the Dock, go to the App Store, go to Purchases, download and reinstall iPhoto.

  • I can no longer print photos from iPhoto.

When I try to print photos from iPhoto, I get the error message:  There were no themes located. Until at least one theme has been installed, this feature will be unavailable. The solution offered by iPhoto help is ridiculous as it assumes that you can get past the error message and on to the option to choose a theme. No so.  The error message is the end of the road.  This is a new problem for me.  Apparently there was an automatic update and now I am updated to no longer being able to print my own photos. Apparently (according to traffic on Google) this is not a new issue, but I haven't seen a solution.  Can't deny that I am royally ****** off.

when i try to print a photo: select>file>print a box comes up stating ' no available themes'

  • Cannot change Print Presets in iPhoto 08

Although I have saved multiple printing presets for other applications, in iPhoto 08 only "Standard" is available. This holds for all user accounts. Any way to correct this?
The problem is that "standard" prints on standard paper for my ink jet. Photos are therefore printed in low res.

Try the simple fix: delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and try again.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Purple hair! - colors printing wrong w/ iPhoto '08 and Canon MP780

I am trying to print some photos of my strawberry-haired daughter and her hair keeps coming out electric purple. It looks very Warhol, but I wasn't reallly going for that effect... Other dark bits in the pictures are coming out purple too.
This has only happened since upgrading to '08. I am still using 10.4.11. I looked for an updated driver on the Canon website, but the latest update is just for Leopard. I've tried printing through the file menu as well as the print button in iPhoto. I get a range of larger or smaller purple highlights, but can't seem to get it to come out without purple hair.
Any ideas? I don't know enough about tweaking settings randomly to get beyond where I've gotten (about a dozen tries with paper options, color sync vs. BJ Standard in Color Options, printing from a PDF).
    Thank you.
    d.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Have you tried cleaning the printer's nozzels with it's printer utility? That happened to me when one of the colors got plugged and the prints were not unlike you are experiencing.
