Printer Setup Utility will not allow new driver to be added

I just bought a Canon Pixma MP960, installed the drivers and then downloaded the driver from their website. When I go to add a new driver in Printer Setup Utility--i highlight the MP960 connected thru USB, but the 'add' feature is not lit up. When i have it search for new drivers, it detects a new driver, but when I hit 'add'--Printer Setup Utility "unexpectedly quits" every time. The only drivers in there are beta thingies that do not work w/ my printer.
The Canon tech guy says that there is a problem with my Printer Setup Utility--but i can't seem to find a solution online. I don't know much about macs, but can I update the Printer Utility program or something? help!

Part of the problem might be if you actually have more than one version of the driver for the printer installed on the computer. Check the drivers at Mac OS X disk/Library/Printers/Canon/ and make sure there is only one plugin for the printer. If you have more than one, trash both and download and install only the driver from Canon that is compatible for Mac OS X 10.4.x. After you install the driver, run Repair Disk Permissions using Disk Utility. If you have only one correct printer driver plugin installed, it should work.

Set up a new time capsule, did not migrate setting from old just in case I needed it for a backup,
Gave the new time capsule the same name and all other information, just as the original to clone it.
With the exception of all the port mappings;  system allowed me to setup "Personal Web Sharing, IMAP Mail, IMAP Mail with SSL, POP Mail, SMTP Mail and Apple Remote Desktop, but will not allow me to add any others with names like, Kerio Workspace, VPN, SSL Web, some have the same Private IP as the allowed port mappings and other have different ones.
    what am I doing wronge?

Loads.. one of them being vpn passthrough having issues due to the TC using IPSEC internally for BTMM.
You might find this is not possible to fix.. but make sure the TC is not double NAT.
If you have another router in the network the TC must be in bridge.. but if the TC is the main router and no double NAT you might need to replace it with something less Apple!! Something that tells you by logs and SNMP what is going on.. and keep the TC bridged for TM backups and wireless..

  • DIsk Utility will not recognize my drive to erase.

    Hello,
I am trying to erase my hard drive to install a new OS. I will be installing either OS 8.6 onto the 12 GIG ATA internal hard drive - the original hard drive.
I am using an OS 10.1 installer CD.
(I thought that DIsk Utility would be a better hard drive formatting utility than OS 8's drive setup utility.)
I first started up from the OS 10.1 installer CD and it first takes me through a few basic questions about the language (I chose English) and then a licencing question and I clicked agree. When it asks me which volume I would like to choose, both of my hard drives are shown but they are greyed-out (dimmed). When I hover over them with the mouse pointer, a small message appears to the left that says something like:
"This hard drive is dimmed because the CD installs all the languages"
This doesn't seem to make any sense. I was booted form the CD.
Why can I not use this installer to erase my hard drive?
This is a retail version of OSX with a white label. It came with two disks: OS9 and 10.1. The symptoms described above happened with the 10.1 disk. Next I will try OS 9. However I would like to know why my DIsk Utility on the OS 10.1 CD didn't show my drive as available. Any suggestions why the hard dirves were grayed out?
    Thanks

    Thanks Lau for you comments.
I need to install os8 because I need to run some old apps and I am using my os 9 for another computer I have.
By the way, the HFS+ file system was suuported from OS 8.1 and after and so that is not an issue. Good idea though.
And so I am back at my original question. It would appear that my OS X install disk doesn't like my blue and white G3's internal 12 GIG ATA drive and so I cannot format it with OSX Disk Utility. I would like to know why but for now I will just use OS 9 or OS8 drive setup. And so I have two choices: OS9 drive setup or OS8.5 Drive setup. Does it matter which I use? In other words is one better than the other? I will be later installing OS 8.6 onto this drive - and maybe OS 9 in the far future. I will try OS9's drive setup first.
Yes, and so this is my most immediate question at this point:
is there a difference between OS8.5 drive setup and OS9's Drive setup? (in terms or formatting a drive to install OS 8, 9 or even X maybe one day?) I will be using HFS+.
And then my second question is my original question which is why doesn't my OS 10.1.5 Disk Utility select my 12 GIG ATA drive? (its greyed out - dimmed?)
    Thanks

  • Contacts will not allow new cards, unresponsive

I have 10.8.2 on an IMac 27" year 2011, Mountain Lion. Contacts app will open, toolbar, however cannot create new cards or view address book. How do I resolve this? I tried repairing permissions which didn't help. Thanks!

Disable Contacts in the iCloud System Pref, if you are using that. Then, try the steps I outline here: After Lion upgrade, my addressbook does not work++
If that fixes it, re-enable iCloud.

  • ITunes 10.5 (on Win7 Pro) will not allow movies (.mp4) to be added to the Movie library.

In the previous release, iTunes 10.4.080, I had no problem with drag & drop of movies (.mp4) from a windows folder to the Movies library.  After installing 10.5 today I have lost the ability to sync my own .mp4 content with my iPad.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Similar problem here, one pc with iTunes 10.4, the other with a fresh install of everything, including iTunes 10.5. My online classes use iTunes U for lectures. • Printer setup utility not allowing re-adding printer to list

I've bought a Brother MFC (Model 210 C), and haven't been able to finish the installation because my operating system's Printer Setup Utility is not showing the new printer...in fact no dialog box shows up at all when I tell it I want to "add" a printer. I'm using a USB cable. A further discovery: when I try reconnecting my old printer, it shows that one listed, but if I then hit "delete" and ask it to find it again, it doesn't show anything or go anywhere. Is the problem possibly that I had the USB cable connected too early in the Brother installation? (I did, unfortunately). What do I do to get the multi-function center recognized?

    Cornelius,
I've tried all that, reinstalled and re setup. Plus I ran a patch from Brother for this problem: when the Printer dialog doesn't run. I even went to the manufacturer, and the Brother tech said it had to be my operating system.
Uh-oh. I just went back on a whim and discovered the patch was for OS 10.4! That can't be good… I'm on 10.3.9. That probably explains the problem. I didn't mention the patch to the Brother tech, as I recall.
Guess I should go back to Brother. Thanks very much for your help!!

  • Blinking Printers in Printer Setup Utility

Hello - Let me start by saying I am no Mac expert at all. I am the network admin for my company but only support two Macs and thus do not have much interaction with them but I am tech savy.
We have one of our Adv department living remote in a different state. Suddenly yesterday, when she went to print, she was given an error that there was no printer selected. Her only option was to install a new printer. This is strange because she has two network printers (one wireless and one by network cable through a small switch) and has Adobe Acrobat 7 so should also have the Adobe Printer available.
I had her go into the Printer Setup Utility through Apple->System Preferances->Printers. There she sees her three printers but they are all blinking on and off. What I mean by that is, the three are there, then gone, then there, then gone. She said they are not graying out but actually disappearing. She is unable to select them to delete them.
We have tried setting up a new printer but it does not detect the printers. I have had her power off both the physical printers to see if some type of network issue was causing the problem but the blinking continues.
I did have her try booting in "Safe Mode" which I understand does some system repair but after that was done and a reboot, the problem persists.
Does anyone have any ideas for this issue. Of course of all days, she needs to get a project printed to PDF by the end of the day for our printer to meet the deadline.
I would be very greatful for any ideas or help!
    Thanks,
    Daniel

    Hello All,
She was able to get the catalog out via an export to PDF option in Quark. Unfortunately the files turn out to be about 25MB per page that way and she had to upload over 600MB via her DSL connection. But it got done.
Now the problem still persists. I have some new info from working on the problem.
We were able to get the blinking to stop by selecting the check box to share the printer from within the Printer Setup Utility. This allowed us to click on the Delete button but we receive an error saying "Server error service unavailable". We are also getting the same error we when try to add a printer.
Doing some searching, I found that that points to the problem being related to the cups printing system in Mac OS X. I did the fix listed in this article twice
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107054
describing how to reset the printing system in OS 10.3 but it did not help.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Daniel

  • "Error:-9672" Printer Setup Utility

Trying to install a Canon Pixma iP6000D via wireless network - getting error message "Error:-9672" -says printer setup utility is not responding/working. Successful installed an HP (direct connection, though).
Confusing to me, since this printer (the Canon) was connected to the wireless network before. Had problems getting it to print, so I deleted the printer and can't re-install it.
Any help or leads are appreciate

I was having the same problem with my HP 3180, MacBook and APE. I googled the error and found this link to some helpful advice that instructs you to uninstall the printer software and select a different built in print driver. It worked for me and took just minutes! hope this helps you too...

  • No IP Printer option in Printer Setup Utility

    Hey-
Trying to add a print server and instructions say I need to add it as an IP printer. I go into:
    - printer and fax settings
    - add printer and there is no IP printer option. There is HP IP printing and epson TCP/IP but no IP printer option.
I have mac intell running 10.4. Where can I find IP printer option and how can I install?

If you open System Preferences > Print & Fax and click the + button, the Printer Browser from the Printer Setup Utility will appear. The Printer Browser has two options appearing at the top of this pane, Default Browser and IP Printer. This would be what the instructions were referring to. Under IP Printer, you have three default protocol options, LPD, IPP and HP Jet Direct (which is port 9100 printing). So it will be one of these three protocols you will be expected to use.

  • Printer setup utility- driver not appearing in list

Hi - I have installed a Canon printer driver (latest version as I checked), restarted my new MacBook (with updated OSX) but the driver does not appear in the list when i try to set printer up. Printer is connected to USB. It is a Canon Pixus iP7500. Latest driver is 4.1.9 - I checked.
I think my question is - how do i get the driver to appear in the Utility's list?
    Thanks.

For the Canon PIXMA drivers (or PIXUS in Japan), the Print Using menu is meant to automatically change to Canon IJ Printer when it detects the USB connected printer. If it doesn't change, you cannot manually browse to it like you can for other drivers.
Often the cause of the correct driver not being selected is that the software hasn't installed correctly. Following is some steps that I have used myself and offered to others that has resolved this problem.
    1. Open Printer Setup Utility, click on Printer Setup Utility and select Reset Printing System.
    2. Close the Printer Setup Utility.
    3. Go to Library > Printers > Canon and delete the contents of the BJPrinters folder.
    4. Go to Library > Receipts and delete the file Canon iPxxxx xxx.pkg
    5. Empty the Trash
    6. Restart the Mac
    7. Install the latest version of the Canon driver (which you have).
    8. Once the driver installation is complete, go to Applications > Utilities and open Disk Utility. Run the Repair Disk Permissions option.
    9. Open Printer Setup Utility. If the printer is not already displayed, click Add.
    10. Select the Default Browser view and select the Canon printer connected via the USB port. The Print Using menu should automatically change to Canon IJ Printer.
    11. Click Add to add the printer.
If the Canon IJ Printer doesn't appear automatically then please reply.

This has been posted for almost 2 weeks and not one reply. Thanks a bunch! As a newbie to OOo and Mozilla, I am not impressed with responsiveness to support needs with either. So, the future of my new experiment with going non-Microsoft remains an open question.
Oddly enough, the problem mysteriously went away. I have followed the same routine and changed no settings. Suddenly all of the downloaded spreadsheets were no longer read-only. So I consider the matter resolved.

  • My new iMac will not allow me to daisy chain my external hard drives - what can I do?!

I just purchased the new late 2013 iMac 27" and all is wonderful except it will NOT allow me to daisy chain my external hard drives which is a HUGE problem because I'm a professional photographer & I won't be able to access my images unless I can sort this out.  I know I can purchase a new giant hard drive but i'd prefer not to because I have about 12 TB of data which will be expensive & time consuming to transfer & I'd also prefer not to have that much info tied into one device.  Ultimately I will need to get a Drive with multiple bays but I'd really like a short term solution that works for the drives I currently have.  Any help is GREATLY appreciated!  Thanks!!

Why can't you daisy chain your drives. If it's because the iMac only has a Thunderbolt port and you have Firewire drivers purchase the Thunderport to Firewire adaptor from Apple: Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter - Apple Store (U.S.)
