Printer Share permissions

I'm trying to modify the share permissions for a printer share in server 2008r2.  On the share tab we have  a check box for share printer.  No permissions tab.  I would like to remove the everyone permission from the share permissions.
Folder shares has a share permissions tab, why not printer shares.

Hi,
As Yagmoth555 mentioned, if you want to set permissions for a shared printer, you should click
Properties, and then click the Security tab. For details, please refer to the following article.

  • How can I migrate file shares & permissions from one volume to another on the same server?

I am replacing a storage array and as part of that process, I need to move files/folders and Shares/permissions from one Volume to another volume within the same server.
The server is Windows 2003 file server.  The file transfers are not a problem, moving all 40 shares with permissions etc. is my main concern because in order to maintain everything I need to change the drive letter of the new volume to match the old
one so that links to various resources throughout the network do not break.

    Hi,
If you want to copy files/folders from one Volume to another volume within the same server, you could use the File Server Migration Tool (FSMT) or Robocopy to accomplish your goals. The tool can move all of the files from the shares on your original volume
    to the new volume.
For more detailed information, you could refer to the articles below:
    File Server Migration Toolkit
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2006.10.utilityspotlight.aspx
The File Server Migration Toolkit (FSMT) is a free download available at:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?DisplayLang=en&id=10268
    Robocopy
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc733145.aspx
FSMT and Robocopy will not copy Share permissions but only NTFS permissions. So if the drive letter will not be changed, you can backup and restore the Share permission with steps here:

  • Windows Printer Share-Worked... now its not

I have 7 computers, mac and PC that are all able to connect to a printer share except for 1 computer. The Lexmark T522 is connected via Serial to a Windows XP box that has standard printer sharing enabled. For months all the computers on the network could print fine to it fine. 2 days ago i installed the latest security update on our intel-imac... now it cannot connect to the printer.
Was there something in the latest security update that messed up printing to windows printer shares?
I go to printers and faxes, Add a printer(the other was deleted through my troubleshooting) I have to choose "more printers", and then have to choose our "workgroup (called workgroup)" I see the shared computers and select the one with the printer installed. I hit the "choose" button and get a request for username and password. I get after about 30 seconds "Unable to connect to server with provided username and password" "error 256" and an Okay button.
NOTE: i can connect via the same method with all the other macs here at our house (none of them have been updated with the latest security update yet though).

    Hey, man.
This started happening to me, too, right after I installed the latest security update. Suddenly I could no longer print to the Windows shared printer at work. Got the exact same error you got.
Thankfully, the printer happens to be wireless and ethernet enabled, so we were able to work around it. But after 4 hours of total troubleshooting, we haven't been able to figure out how to print to it as a shared printer.

  • Connect mac client to mac printer share across subnets

I need to share printers from a Mac.  I need to connect
Mac clients on different subnets to the Mac shared printers.  I installed
a Mac mini, connected to printers via HP JetDirect Socket (port 9100), and
shared them.  I was able to print from the Mac mini, and connect Mac
clients on the same subnet to the shared printers with Bonjour and print.
I moved the Mac mini to its intended location on another subnet.  I
immediately learned that Bonjour does not publish services across
subnets.  I could not find documentation on how to connect to a Mac shared
printer across subnets, but I did find some third party documentation (only some incomplete
documentation from Apple) on how to implement DNS-SD Service Discovery.  I
enabled DNS-SD and was able to publish the printer shares across subnets, but I
was still unable to connect to the printer shares from a Mac client.  I
found some third party documentation (none from Apple) on how to manually connect to a Mac
printer share by specifying the IP address of the server, specifying the CUPS
default IPP protocol, and the print queue name.  I was unable to connect
to the shared printers.  I receive ping replies from my Mac mini, and port
scan reveals that port 631 for IPP, CUPS default, is open.  Printer
sharing is configured so everyone can print. I am able to connect to the Mac
mini with VNC Screen Sharing.  I don’t see how this can be a network
    issue.
Macs don’t seem to like to connect to our Windows
shared printers because of our PaperCut software, and connecting Mac clients to
Windows printer shares and authentication is beyond the average user,
exacerbated by Macs not behaving the same as Windows when bound to an Active
    Directory domain.
I called Apple support, they escalated to Apple Enterprise
support.  Apple Enterprise support said they couldn’t help me beyond a
single network with no subnets, but Apple Engineering might be able to solve
    the problem for $695.
Why do I need to pay $695 to learn how to connect Mac
clients to Mac shared printers, something that should be easy and intuitive and
have documentation readily available?  Windows printer sharing is easy and
intuitive and documentation is readily available, and services are published
across subnets without have to implement DNS-SD.

Thank you for your reply.  I followed the instructions in the sybaspot.com site and in some of the included references to set up DNS-SD.  DNS-SD worked, but I couldn't connect the Mac client to the Mac shared printers.
    I also found http://www.papercut.com/products/ng/manual/ch-mac-printing-10-8-9.html#ch-mac-pr inting-10-8-9-sharing-printers.
I expanded my search and found this: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13940, last modified May 8, 2014.  I started work on my project February 2014.  Apple Support could have told me about this document.
PH13940 says: "The computers must be on the same local network as your Mac".  Apple must not consider multiple subnets one network.
PH13940 says: "Printer sharing is for printers attached directly to your Mac. You don’t need to share network printers, because they are already shared on the network."
Apple must define "network printers" as any printer with a network interface.  Microsoft defines network printers as printers shared by another computer.  TCP/IP ports are local ports on a Windows computer, so TCP/IP connected printers are local printers that can be shared.  Multiple users on a Mac all see the same connected printers.  Multiple users on Windows all see the same local printers, but network printer connections can be different for each user.
Apple must not see any value in accounting for printing and assigning the cost to the user or department.  We need to account for printing and cannot have any users bypassing the system by printing directly to printers.  I have created Access Control lists on the printers to limit connections to the specific IP addresses of our print servers.
The documents about setting up DNS-SD and IPP connections must have assumed USB connected printers on a Mac.  The odd thing is that I was able to share a network printer from the Mac mini when the client Mac was on the same subnet.  Is PH13940 wrong?

  • Print Share with HP 5610 All in one series Printer

I have an HP 5610 printer connected to a pc. I'm trying to use print share so I can print using my macbook. How do I do this?

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8671.html
You will need a CUPS driver (not the HP-provided one) to print via Windows Printing. Find the CUPS driver info here:

Then download and install from here:

  • Printer Share says that my printing is complete, but nothing printed.

I am trying to print from an Android Razr to my 8600 Officejet using PrinterShare.  The phone says the printing is completed, but nothing printed.  I am also having a problem getting my phone Wi-Fi to communicate with my printer.

Hi there, if you are having trouble getting your phone and printer to communicate that may explain why nothing is coming out of the prettier. I'm not familiar enough with the service you are using (Printer Share) but what might be happening is that your job request is being received but is not able to be delivered to the printer for completion.
Can you print wirelessly to your printer from another device e.g. a laptop? Does the printer lose connection to your wireless network intermittently? The more information you can provide the more likely you are to get a solution from the Forum users. Your printer is ePrint enabled and you should be able to print to it from your Android device using HP's free ePrint Home & Biz Mobile Print app. You could try installing that on your phone and see if that solution works for you. Provided you register the phone t the ePrint service once you've installed the app you'll be able to send content to the printers email address fro printing from anywhere in the world provided the printer and the phone are connected to the internet, but not necessarily connected with each other on the same WiFi network.
Try and rule out any fundamental problems with your printers wireless connectivity and take it from there. Post back if you're running into problems and need suggestions.
    Best of luck.

  • Share permissions issue - users reporting files readonly

I have setup a share and the users need to have access to read, modify, write, delete on the files/folders in the new share. The users. For this:
    1. I added the user AD group to the Share Permissions and set 'Change' for the permissions. I noticed that there was already a group called Everyone here and had 'READ' permissions. I did not make any changes to this Everyone group.
    2. I added the user AD group to the NTFS Permissions and set 'Modify, Read&Execute, Read, Write' permissions.
It seems the users are seeing the files as 'read only'. They can view and open, but are not able to edit the file. What might be the issue?

  • Print & Share App

I have a HP OficeJet Pro L7590 on my home network and looking at the Print & Share App if it is compatible with my printer or not.  Is someone using this app with the same series printer and share with your experience?  Thanks!

    Hi Mary,
Thanks for your reply and sharing info.  Can I check with you how you connect your printer with iPad.  Currently, I have my HP printer to connect to my Netgear router using a lan cable.  My router has wired and wireless interfaces so my iPad is connected to that router via Wifi protocol.  Currently I can print the doc from my iPad to the printer via my iMac computer but the disadvantage is my computer must turn on before I can print.  With Print & Share app, I would like to print direct to my printer without going thru my iMac.  Otherwise, it is useless to me as I notice in their website saying that if fails to print, I have to install WePrint software on my computer.  I do not need this but only print to my HP printer wirelessly.  That is the reason I want to ask you.  Sorry to turn out a complicated question.

  • Printer Share Migrations when SCCM DP is replaced with new name

we are inprocess of replacing the remaining office servers which are SCCM 2012 SP1 DPs with replacement servers that are Svr 2012.  in the past when we did this for the 2003 server we were able to use printmig to create a script that the user only had
to click once on a file and all the print shares were installed on the client system without them having to reinstall every print share manually.
we tried using alias thru DNS with CNAME and IPs. outcome was the old name appeared as expected but unable to print. printer error was unable to connect to printer or printer offline.
looking for an automated means with new printer migration tool for Svr 2012 or some other recognized Microsoft tool.
Michael Pace Client Services Team Allegis Group, Inc.

i need to clarify the question.
it isn't the printer migration from one print server to another.
the issue is our company does not want our users to always have to remapp their print shares everytime a office server is replaced.
the only reason we have to do so now is that active 2003 is a DP for SCCM and the replacement server is also a DP with the print server function as the old server.  since the servers are active, and the swap out takes place within a several hour
period, we have to change the name on the replacement server due to SCCM.  that is dilemma.
prior to sccm being in the picture, we would use printmig to export data and add that to a script that would with one click by user would reinstall all print shares on their system. (server 2003 and XP)
all our attempts to use alias have failed.
so we are looking for a similar method with do the same for the users as before but now we have win 7 with no admin rights and server 2012 r2.

  • Network Magic Looses Printer Share on Reboot

    Hi Folks,
How do you setup a persistent printer share when the host machine reboots ?
My host is a Compaq Desktop with Vista and an HP 3300 printer.
I am running Network Magic 5.5.9195.0
When I reboot, the shared computer is not shared anymore, I need to go into the Sharing Screen and re-share every time.
    Any thoughts ?
    Thanks

    Odd,
I can retain a single printer on reboot, but not two.
    More testing is needed !

  • Clustered File share Permissions won't set (with error)

I have a s2012r2 cluster with a file server. When i go to create a new share it creates with read only permissions and i cannot change it to full or read/write. it is just the share permissions that won't set. when i create a share the error i get is "The
Cluster Resource could not be found." if i try to edit the share permissions the error is "Error Occurred while update an SMB share: The cluster resource could not be found" the admin share is working perfectly and the folder permissions are
    accurate.
The only solution to this problem i have found online that worked for someone is to destroy the cluster and rebuild it. I really don't want to do that.

  • Directory Share Permissions Question

Hello, Using MS server 2008 R2
On the server we have a "D:" drive with several NTFS shared directories that were setup by another team.
when I look at the share permissions, I see some that are Read/Write, and I see one called 'Contribute'.
    what is the 'Contribute' permission?
Why would this be used instead of just Read/Write?

  • Mass movement of network file shares removed SHARE permissions

We had a 10 year old server that had two iscsi drives containing all our company's shared file storage, about 2.5 TBs.
A couple of days ago, we had to move those iscsi drives to a new server in order to retire the old server.
Through previous experience, we were prepared for the loss of our "shares" but not the loss of our security permissions.  We documented every share and who had permissions to each folder. We were not surprised that this indeed occurred.
As we were manually and hurriedly reapplying share permissions, we couldn't help but ask ourselves, "what does a company like Boeing do in a case such as this?"
For our company, it took two people only about 45 minutes to complete the job but we are growing. In the future, is there a more automated procedure we could do instead of the manual flurry to quickly reset shares and their permissions after moving
iscsi shared files and folders to another server?
Please have an answer for us and thanks for your time.
    Sue

    Hi Sue,
NTFS permission is on file/folder so we could migrate it with files/folders.
However Share permission is stored in registry key:
    SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Shares
If the path of all folders will not be changed, you can output and import the key to the new server directly.
If path will be changed, you will need to modify the keys before import.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 and NTFS\Share permissions auditing and inventory

Does SCCM 2012 have the ability to run inventory and audit reports on client systems' NTFS and Share permissions?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as always.
    Thanks

Not built-in no. See this post for adding share permissions:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/31be4d1c-28d3-4f67-a2f6-823ab2b13d1e/how-to-collect-share-permissions
For NTFS permissions, something similar could be done if you had a limited set of folders or files that you wanted to inventory.
You could also use compliance settings to track if/when specific permissions change.
