Printer Sharing Problem

I just installed NM on 4 comps.  1 XP, 1 Vista, and 2 Windows 7.  Everything works as of now except for the printer attached to Vista will not work on XP comp.  As of now it says it needs to search for .INF file?.....Of course this is the one computer i really need to be able to access the printer.  I would love any and all help on this matter.  Thanks in advance.
Adam

I had the same problem after purchasing a WIN 7 laptop. The printer (HP PSC 1210) is connected to an XP desktop, we have an XP laptop, 2 Vista laptops, and the new WIN 7. Everyting worked beautifully until I tried to print from the WIN 7. It kept searching for an INF file. When I tried to download drivers from the HP site for WIN 7, it said those drivers were already available on my laptop. I finally downloaded the XP drivers, and when cautioned that the files already existed, I clicked overwrite. After rebooting my computer, Network Magic found the printer right away and all is well.

    Oops...somehow submitted without any text.
My set-up: Linksys Cable Modem with Linksys Wireless Router.  2 Desktop Computers (Black and Grey) and 1 Laptop.  Windows XP SP2 with all current upgrades on each.
While setting up File and Printer Sharing, I have the following:
    1) The Black computer can file/printer share from both the Grey computer and Laptop.
    2) The Grey computer can only file/printer share from the Laptop; not from the Black computer.
    3) The Laptop can only file/printer share from the Grey computer; not from the Black computer.
All 3 computers were configured the same as far as I can tell.  The only difference I notice is that the Black computer boots without the XP 'login' screen (no password required), could this be causing the problem?  If this is the issue, how would I change the settings to 'login' to the Black computer?  Any thing else which may be wrong?

  • File and Printer Sharing Problem with WRT54G

I am currently having problems sharing files over my network. My setup consists of:
    3 laptops (wireless)
    1 desktop (wired)
    WRT54G V6.0 router with firmware version 1.00.9.
All of the computers have File and Printer Sharing enabled, unique names, and are on the same workgroup. However none of the computers can see one another. When I try to view workgroup computers for my network places, the explorer window stops responding for about 30 sec. and then spits out a dialog with the error:
"Workgroup is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."
I think that this problem has something to do with the router, as I have been successfuly sharing files and a printer with these settings using a microsoft 802.11b router for over a year. After purchasing the linksys and swapping it out with my old router, filesharing no longer functions.
I have spent a little time browsing the forums and have seen other posts from people with simmiler problems, but was unable to find any solutions.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

I'm having the same problems as you are, I have 2 computers on wired the other wireless the router is in between and I can't access from either side, although I can ping and remote connect but just cannot share files across the network. I have looked all over the forums too and there saying to ditch linksys and do something else.
Its not you thats caused this it is the firmware and the router that have the problems.
    My Specs:
    WRT-54G
    v5.0
That new firmware update 1.00.9 just isn't working right. I might downgrade my fireware to fix this problem.

    Hi Chamath,
I assume your XP machine is 32bit (most are)? Here are a couple guides that may help:

    and

Also, here is a Microsoft Article to ensure that you have Windows 7 setup properly for printer sharing (article is for Vista, but works just as well for 7):

  • HP Printer sharing problem

I have a 27" iMac (iMac12,2) running ML 10.8.3 with an HP P1006 laserjet printer direct-connected to it.  The iMac is on a network with a MacMini running SL 10.6.8, a MacBook Pro running 10.6.8, and an old G5 PowerMac running 10.4.11.  I have the printer set up to be shared and I can print to it from the MacMini.  The MacBook sees the printer but it won't print to it.  The G5 doesn't even see the printer.
The iMac is new in the system and I'm just setting it up.  The printer was originally connected to the G5 and all 4 computers would print to it that way.  I moved the printer connection to the iMac because I want to take the G5 out of service.  If I re-locate the printer connection to the MacMini, the Mini and the iMac can still print to it, but the situation is the same for the MacBook and the G5 - the MacBook sees it but won't print, the G5 doesn't see it.
All four computers are hard-wired to the network, no wireless base stations in the way.  I've got all of the latest drivers I could find for all four machines.  I could (possibly) understand the issue with the G5 since it's still running Tiger but I can't make any sense out of the failure for the MacBook to print since the set-up is identical to that of the Mini.
    Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions?
    Dennis

Hi there, I just wanted to let you know what has happened with my printer since.
I called hp, and they said that because the printer didn't have some sort of extended care plan, that they would charge me $45 or I could call Apple. They said specifically that it was Apple's problem (yeah right).
Talked to the most friendly techies ever, and they spent hours on the phone with me trying a bunch of different ideas. Apparently, from what we can figure out, hp simply stopped updating the drivers. When I did try to download the 1022 driver from the website again, it downloads, says its installing, but never actually functions and just disappears. So after everything, even trying the original install cd, we determined that we just can't get it to work.
    One interesting thing though:
The printer is plugged into my imac, and I was trying to print to it (using printer sharing) from my macmini, macbook, or macbook pro. None worked.
But, if I plugged in the printer to any other one of those computers via usb and tried to print wirelessly from the imac, it worked perfectly!
Hope things work out for you!

  • File Sharing & Printer Sharing Problem

I have an Intel Duo Core 20" and an older G4 Flat Panel iMac. Both were connected to my old airport extreme with few or no problems. File sharing, printer sharing etc. worked great with virtually no delays.
I recently purchased and installed the new Airport Extreme. Both computers connect to the network created with no problem, ie: the internet, however when I try to connect from the Duo Core to the G4 via the network for file sharing,or printer sharing, my Duo Core freezes. The file sharing settings for both computers are set appropriately as before. I have shut off file sharing for both, restarted, then turned on file sharing on both but the issue continues.
Any suggestions? I'm pretty 'Apple Savy' but not a 'genious'.

Sorry..one other note that may help in narrowing this down. When I go to print, the printer that is connected to the G4, shows up on the 'shared printers' list, however, it just never connects when selected. Just the 'beach ball of death'.

  • OSX 10.6.8 Printer Sharing Problem

Ok, I have the weirdest problem when trying to share a printer across the network.  I did just upgrade my iMac (20") to Snow Leopard and have run Software Update until no more suggestions come up.  My iMac has the 2.16 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 1 GB of RAM.
Here's the deal, I have a network and everything else is working fine.  When I attempt to share my printer I enable printer sharing as directed, check the box by the printer I want to share (there is only one) and then, 5-10 seconds later the printer un-selects itself so it's no longer shared on the network.
I also go to Open Print Preferences and check the box next to Share this printer on the network and the same thing happens.  The box clears all by itself in 5-10 seconds.
I've re-downloaded the HP print drivers (HP F4440 printer), reset the printing system and nothing helps.
    Any ideas?
I do have more RAM on order and once it's installed I will upgrade to Lion.
    Thanks,

  • Epson Printer Sharing Problem

I have two printers connected to my MacPro - a cheap Canon iP2600 and an Epson Stylus Photo R800. I have Printer Sharing switched on on both the MacPro and my iMac G4 800, and they are linked through a wireless router via AirPort card in the iMac, and Ethernet from the MacPro.
Here's the problem: for some time I've had the setup described above, but always printed to the Epson from the MacPro (usually from Photoshop or Lightroom). From the iMac, I've always printed to the Canon (and or to the Samsung which the Canon replaced recently), usually from things like MS Word or Excel.
Tonight I've been trying to set up the iMac so my wife can print to the Epson from Lightroom, but I find that it is not possible to do so - I get a Communication Error, and it's clear that the iMac is not able to communicate with the Epson unless I actually connect them directly by FireWire. Also I don't get the full range of options in the driver - two key items (Print Settings & Color Management) are not present in the "Copies & Pages" drop-down menu - when I try to connect to the Shared Printer.
I know that the PowerPC and Intel Macs use different drivers, and suspect this may be the problem.
Can anyone suggest a way forward for this? Or Have I hit the buffers on printer sharing here?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions...
    Jim

    Thanks BDAqua -
That's got my iMac speaking to the printer again. Unfortunately it's not giving me all I need to use the R800 as a photo printer, as I'm still not getting all the options I should get in the Driver dialogue. If I pick the driver for the non-shared R800 from the Printers drop-down, I get the following list in the 3rd drop-down (after the Printer and Presets menus):
    Copies & Pages
    Layout
    Scheduler
    Paper Handling
    ColorSync
    Cover Page
    *Print Settings*
    *Color Management*
    Extension Settings
    (App Name*)
    Summary
If, however, I pick the R800 from the Shared Printers list in the Printers drop-down, I get this truncated version
    Copies & Pages
    Layout
    Scheduler
    Paper Handling
    ColorSync
    Cover Page
    (App Name*)
    Summary
*Note: The app name is present in these menus if trying to print from MS Word or Safari, but is not there in the case of Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom. It's of no real interest in this context, though - in the present context it is the absence of the "Print Settings" and "Color Management" options which is critically important.
I guess this is maybe an Epson thing rather than an Apple thing, so maybe I will need to post elsewhere to get to the answer, but I'm really not sure where that might be.
So once again, any suggestions most welcome
    Jim

  • All-In-One printer sharing problem

I am unable to set up network printer sharing.  When I click on sharing, from the printer icon in Printers and Faxes, I get the error message:
Printer setting could not be saved.  Operation could not be completed...Has anyone had this problem?

Can i also share the scanning features also?
    No, only printing is supported.

  • Printer sharing problem: printer not found by other Macs over network

We have 2 iMacs and 1 PowerBook, all connected to network through a Belkin router. One of the iMacs has an Epson Stylus hardwired (USB) to it. Printer sharing is ON. In the past, the other two Macs found the printer over the network and printed fine. Recently, they can no longer find the Epson over the network, indeed, when we try to "add printer" in their Printer Utilities, they no longer find any printer at all. Why did it use to work and then stop for no apparent reason, no changes were made (except for occasional need to restart the router if we lost our connection)? What are we missing?

As you suggested, I repaired permissions in all my Macs. That helped; the other Macs could find the shared printer. Then later on I needed to shut off both the host iMac and the printer. When I turned them back on, once again the other 2 Macs couldn't find the printer?! Since I had just repaired permissions earlier in the day I didn't think it could be that again. Then, I printed one page from the hardwired host iMac, and voila!, right after that page printed the other two Macs could spot the shared printer over the network again. I'm glad they came back online, but wish I knew what the heck was going on?! Why would printing one page from the host bring the others back, and did the earlier repair of permissions really have anything to do with it??

  • Printer sharing problem in Network Magic

I have a desktop computer running Windows XP connected to a HP Photosmart 1115 printer.  I have a laptop running Windows 7.  I installed Network Magic on both machines.  The network map is showing the printer with a yellow directional arrow going both ways.  When I right-click on the printer and choose "Complete printer setup"  a pop-up screen appears "Connecting to hp photosmart 1115 series on (name of desktop)."  Then another screen pops-up "No driver found".  Then another screen pops-up "File needed:  Printer driver INF for Hp photosmart 1115 series".  Not sure where to look on desktop?  I tried some inf printers drivers but I get "Windows cannot connect to printer".  I also get error 0x00000214 which tells me to set-up the printer by creating a port with \\desktopname\\printername.  This changed the look of the printer icon in the control panel but the printer did not work on either of the machines.  The only way I can print from the laptop is to save my files into a shared folder and then go to the desktop and open the shared folder and print.  Is there any other solution to this problem besides buying a new printer that is compatible with Windows 7?  There are no drivers from HP available to work in Windows 7.  I also am using Norton Security Suite with Comcast.

    Hi jamhome,
You will not be able to use the Printer from your  Windows 7 Laptop without compatible Windows 7 Drivers. I purchased a Lexmark X6570 which is Wireless and works in Windows 7 Utlimate 64-Bit Version Computer.
You need to purchase a Printer or All-in-One that plugs into the Router or is Wireless to each computer.
You also need to open up Windows 7's Network and Sharing Center which may  or may not help.
If you need additional help include the information that the posts at the top of the Forum asks for.

  • Printer Sharing and Windows Sharing with Windows Vista

Today I tired setting up a printer sharing network over my linksys wireless router. I turned the printer sharing on and the windows sharing on my mac. Then I launched my notebook with vista on it and installed Bonjour for Windows 1.0.3. Once the installation finished I ran the wizard and installed the shared Epson Stylus Photo 1280 printer.
Once I finished the wizard I gave the printer a go.
I tried printing a word document on my Vista machine using the new wireless set up and nothing happens the printer queue gains the document spools it and then it's gone. Then, I tried using Vistas Sharing set up. After setting up another printer icon (the same printer). When I go to print I get an error message.
Also when I try accessing my shared folder from my vista machine. I use my Username and password for the login. The computer responds that my Mac Mini's username and password is incorrect. Thus, I cannot fileshare between by Mac Mini and my Vista Laptop
What can I do to get my printer sharing and my windows sharing set up to work.
(also, my Epson Stylus Photo 1280 Printer is hooked up to my mac mini through USB).
    Please respond
    Thank you

  • Problem with HP Printer Sharing?

I have an HP laserjet 1022 printer that has always worked shared. It's connected to my iMac via usb, and I have always been able to print to it with printer sharing. A few weeks ago however, the print sharing with my macmini and macbook wasn't working. Usually I delete and then readd the printer, but it didn't work this time. Also, now it recognizes the printer, but its trying to use the wrong ?driver? It's trying to use Generic PostScript instead of the normal 1022 it used to use. After my macbook was stolen, I tried to set the printer sharing up with my new macbook pro. That didn't work either. I called HP, but they said there was nothing they could do because it isn't a network printer, it's just printer sharing, and therefore a mac thing. What do I do?

Hi there, I just wanted to let you know what has happened with my printer since.

  • Problem with file and printer sharing

I just installed a Linksys WRT54G to replace a D-Link wireless router and cannot reestablish my file and printer sharing since replacing the router.  I had file and printer sharing working fine before installing the WRT54G.   All of the computers are running either XP Pro or 2000 Pro.  I have two printers attached to one of my computers that I was previously sharing with all of the other computers on our home network.  One is attached via a parallel port, the other via a USB port.
Here's what I've tried so far without success.
    1.  The IP of the WRT54G is 192.168.1.1, and the IP's it assigns to my LAN computers begin 192.168.1.XXX.  The old IP of the D-Link was 192.168.0.1 and its LAN IPs were 192.168.0.XXX, so I've gone into my firewall and changed the settings for the range of trusted computers to correspond to the WRT54G's IP addresses.
    2.   I've tried uninstalling the printers and reinstalling them, including reinitializing printer sharing.
    3.  When I try to use the Windows  "Add printer" wizard to add a networked printer, it can see the computer that has the printers attached, but it does not see the printers.
    4.  I haven't fooled around with the file sharing settings, but they've all be lost too, so I suspect there is a common problem for both printer and file sharing.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.  I don't know what would be different about the WRT54G that would cause this problem.

Try this to Enable File and Printer Sharing...Turn Off the Router Firewall...Make sure the Windows Firewall is also Off...

  • Print authentication problem with a shared USB printer

I'm trying to assist my brother with the setup of his new iMac i3 (running 10.6.4).  He is converting from a G5 iMac (which was, I believe, on Tiger) to the i3 and has a Canon MP610 printer.  The Canon MP610 printer has been connected via USB to the G5 with printer sharing on, and his wife has been able to print to the printer over Bonjour from her MacBook Pro  (OS 10.5.8) when it was shared via the G5.
As soon as we moved the printer to the i3, she became unable to print from the MacBook Pro, because it began putting documents on hold in the queue and requiring authentication to print.
Nothing we've tried will ether allow us to get past the authentication or get rid of the prompt.  We've deleted and re-added the printer multiple times, assured that the new i3 is the only one set up for sharing its connected printer - tried different user passwords to authenticate - we're stuck.  My brother is the sole user/administrator account on the i3, his wife is the sole administrator/user on the MacBook Pro.  The MP610 has been totally deleted from the old G5 so we don't think it is interfering.
They're in California, I'm doing remote support from Texas.  The computers and printer are all in the same room in their home.
I've read posts this morning in the community about this issue but they all reference Windows networks.. there is no Windows or mixed Windows-Mac model in our scenario.
    Please help!  thanks in advance.

The layout of the print window is not the same as OS 9.x and prior. There will not be a choice for double sided printing as there was pre OS X unless the printer comes with an automatic duplexer.
You will have to figure out how to print odds and evens in separate jobs and do it manually.
