Printer software issue? I'm not sure. Super frustrated

I am beyond frustrated. At this point I want to just destroy my printer. It stopped working a few days ago. And would register an error when printing. I finally got it back to printing items, but the software for the printer on my computer isn't working. I've updated all drivers. Used the HP Doctor scan program. NOTHING. Issue: Clicking on the HP Photosmart 7520 series program on my desktop launches the setup. It use to launch the program to allow me to scan items. Now all it does is continually lauching the setup. And, for some reason the setup won't complete. Printer, I hate you.

Hello , Welcome to the HP forums, and thanks for posting. I can certainly understand your frustration with this issue, and I'd like to help you get your HP Photosmart 7520 e-All-in-One printer installed and working properly. I'm going to recommend we remove all the software you currently have installed first.   From your desktop, either swipe right to open the charms bar, or press Win key + C on your keyboard.Select settings from the bar on the right.Select Control PanelUnder Hardware and Sound, Select Devices and PrintersRight click on each icon you see for your 7525 (even if there is only one) and select Remove Device, or Delete.Once the software has been uninstalled, I suggest doing a cleanboot of your computer (to make sure there aren't any non-microsoft programs running that may be affecting your installation). How to perform a clean boot in Windows  Once the computer has restarted, try downloading the HP Printer Install Wizard to complete the installation for you. It will automatically detect your device, and install the appropriate software. Please respond to let me know if this resolves the issue.Good luck!

My Airport wireless is working for my two MacBook Pros and my daughter's iPod, but our iPad, Iphone and other iPod all say they need to set up an Airport Base Station but do not have the proper software.  I'm not sure what to do to remedy this situation.

This might sound like a silly question, but are you sure the iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch etc.) are still trying to connect to the same network from your own Airport router, as the MacBook Pros are? If you tap Settings on them, is the network name next to where it says Wi-Fi, the right one?
I've got a weird feeling that either in the past couple of days, a neighbour got an Airport device and hasn't set it up yet (causing your iOS devices to try to help), or that perhaps there's an issue with your Airport router and they're noticing it and trying to help out, while for whatever reason, Airport Utility isn't opening itself on the MacBook Pros like it normally should if there's a problem.
If you open Airport Utility on one of the MacBook Pros, does it report any problems with your Airport device, and can you view/edit the settings on it?

  • How do I report a bug: HP Printer Software Update 2.7 not compatible with HP C5200 series (C5280)

    Hi
I've recently updated my 2011 vintage 22" 3GHz iMac recently bought from Apple themselves to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and my HP printer/scanner (C5280) has just stopped working - printing half a page and then complaining:
"Communication Error: Unable to send print data ..." blah blah.
It was working fine under 10.6.7 ...
What seems like several months later, I have
    1) checked the cable
    2) checked  the printer (it works on a Windows machine)
    3) Downloaded the "latest" drivers from the HP website (dated 2009)
    4) Scrubbed the HP software (using HP uninstaller option with Cmd-Cntrl-Opt pressed)
    5) Downloaded the "Software Update" version of HP Printer software update 2.7 .....
    6) Installed the HP software again (just in case it needed to be in that order)
    7) Scrubbed it again
    8) RE-downloaded HP Printer Software Update 2.7 via Software Update
and tried printing again ..... still no joy.
My view is that this is a bug.
Is it possible to report such a phenomenon to anyone in Apple / HP who would actually take notice (or, whisper it) care?
Any further suggestions - or perhaps ideas for places to take a restful vacation - gratefully received.
    Thanks

Is your wretched printer the same model? How about the Mac - and your OS.
I have tried to persuade HP that this should be investigated here:

Please do contribute to that discussion too, since I assume that HP will be the organisation to investigate/correct any driver problems.

  • Need some help on Software Installation... not sure what is going on!!

OK... this should not be an issue and should be fairly straight forward. Having only been in the Mac world for a few months... I am still learning.
I purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac... got it in today... thought I would just pop it in... go through a simple install... but no. Now let me say that I did download and run a demo version of this same software a month ago. Ran out of time and thought I had removed everything... but something is not right.
This is the message I get...
Critical errors were found in setup
    - Incompatible payloads already installed
Please see the Setup log file for details.
I have looked everywhere for the Setup Log files and don't have a clue where it is... used finder and spotlight. I don't understand the term incompatible payload.
Can anyone help me with this?? Please
    Thanks,
    Ronnie

Usually an Uninstaller does not have to be in a particular location to do its job. It knows the pathway to the files it is scheduled to remove. Download the uninstaller from Adobe and try running it from the Finder.
If for some reason that fails I would do two things. First download and install the trial or demo again. Then run the uninstaller. That should remove all vestiges of the demo.
I would also run the uninstaller, if there is one, for the purchased version and then do a fresh install. If there is no uninstaller for the full purchased version I would install it again over your first install to make sure any corruptions have been replaced with a fresh install.

  • All software reverts to start, not sure what happened

This is hard to explain since I am unsure what is actually important. Christmas eve our power went off. (this may have nothing to do with what happened) I have a battery back up. When the power went off I shut down the computer and all peripherals. The next morning we turned everything back on and it appeared normal. I personally did not use the computer until later in the day. My son tried to access a web site but since my backup software was running, it took too long so he left it. Later in the day he accessed a web site and all seemed normal to him. Another son later accessed his email (both of these are not apple mail users) He also accessed Skype and thought he had exited it. Later in the day I was going to check my email and skype was still not shut down. I forced it to quit. The desktop looked normal. All my icons were where they should be.
At one point, not exactly sure when, I had finder open and somehow inadvertently dragged my personal home folder out of finder and it went "poof". So my home folder did not show up on the left of the finder window. I opened the Users folder and picked my name folder and drug it back. (This may be the problem)
I tried to access my mail and it took me to the set up as if I had never used Mail before. I then restarted the computer and when it came back up all the icons that had been on the desktop were gone except the HD and my two back up discs. Any software I have tried to open is as if it has never been used. I had almost 10,000 photos organized in Lightroom and it is now empty. The photos are still in the pictures folder, but not in Lightroom. Same with my genealogy software, all addresses are gone from my address book, all history and bookmarks in Safari. As if it is a new computer.
I have repaired permissions, restarted several times, removed Turbo Tax (which I had installed yesterday) removed Skype which my son had used. Started up in safe mode. It is as if I just began using the computer yesterday. No logs, when I open finder it goes to icon mode and I change it each time but when I close and reopen it goes back to default.
It has to be something simple, doesn't it? I hope this makes sense to someone.
    Thanks
    Judy

If you want to play it safe, and you have an external drive, you may want to drag that folder with all your data to the external drive as a backup. It would be bad if you did something that caused you to lose that data. If you already do backups using Time Machine (or some other method), that's great; you should be fine. If you don't do regular backups of at least your user data, you should.
To get things back to the way they were...
Open a Finder window. Click on +Macintosh HD+ in the sidebar. Over to the right, you should see a folder called Users. Open that folder. For every user account you have on that Mac, there should be user home folder (plus one called Shared ). Is there one there now for your user account (with your user account short name)? When you moved your user account folder, the system probably created a new one. If so, look around inside to make sure it does not have any of your user files.
I have not had a need to do this myself, but it seems to me you will not be allowed to directly replace the new user home folder with the old one, because there are files inside the new user home folder that are now being used (because you are logged into that account). So I would create a new folder in the Users folder, and name it something like Temp. Drag that new user home folder to the Temp folder, so that it is out of the way.
Open a new Finder window that shows your original user home folder in the Applications folder. Drag your original user home folder from that Finder window to the Finder window that shows the Users folder. Your original user home folder should now be where it was previously located.
Restart your iMac. Hopefully, it will start up and log in using your original user home folder. If it works, you can delete that Temp folder.

  • Mac and software issues, Dictation does not work....another update another round of new software.

just installed Mountain Lion, tried to use Dictation in Pages 08 and nothing worked, tried turning it on, activating it using fn fn and nothing!!  Does this mean i am going to have to buy new software AGAIN??

    Russrwl wrote:

The single beep could indicate that you don't have your cursor in an area that can accept text input.
In other words, Dictation cannot be turned on unless you are in a place where you could be typing on the keyboard and seeing it appear on the screen - in an email, Word document etc.  Dictation can only be turned on when you're ready to use it, it doesn't wait in the background.

  • Windows 7 operating sys is not supported by 3910 printer software

Bought a new HP laptop with Windows 7.  HP 3910 printer software is shown as not supported, it does not meet 1 or more of the install requirements.  Can I get a download to upgrade the printer software to work on Windows 7?  Thanks and God bless.

The first problem is you have WMP on the computer roll it back and install WMP0 if you updated from 0 to just roll it back making sure to remove the WMP runtime from the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS (have it set to show all updates) so you can find it. Instructions for removal here. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...tallation.mspx If you need WMP0 go here? http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...0/default.aspx? to download it.

Have HP C4599.  Trying to reinstall software after uninstall.  Not sure if fully uninstalled.
during install stated system could not find file specified.  Error report sent and then system downloaded files from internet and then install continued.  Stopped after time advising that HP installer uninstaller stopped working.  Windows close program and notify if solution available.  Nil info received.  Appears I cannot take any further action.  can anyone assist.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @Tassie1
I noticed your post about the installation that may not be completing successfully, and I wanted to share my suggestion with you, that might help!
Try a level 3 uninstall to completely remove all of the HP printer files, and then reinstall the full driver. The steps are as follows:
    1. Click Start and type %temp% in the run field, press enter to open the temp folder
    2. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356) (If there is more than one, choose the most recent folder)
    3. Open folder Util
    4. Open folder CCC
5.Run the L3uninstall.exe (may also be a .bat file)
    6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
    7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
    8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player
    http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
    9. Download the full feature software and drivers from here: HP Photosmart C4500/C4524 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Driver
    10. Run the download and reinstall the printer
Please let me know if that helps and what happens!

  • Missing HP Utility (Officejet Pro 8600 Plus); need to reinstall - cannot uninstall printer software

I had to wipe my iMac and resinstall IOS Mavericks (10.9.5).  Printer (Officejet Pro 8600 Plus, 9N11g) is working, but will no longer scan (double-clicking icon results in "original item cannot be found") and the HP utility icon on dock is missing, replaced with a "?."  I located directions to uninstall printer software so I can reinstall... but there is no longer any HP folder or "HP Uninstaller" on my Mac HD.  Neither is there an HP folder within Library/Printers folders.  Spotlight search shows no HP or Hewlett-Packard folders on my hard drive.
I have downloaded an "HPPPrinterDrivers3.0.dmg" and "HP-Injket-SW-OSX-Mavericks_v12.34.37.dmg," one of which I'm hoping will contain updated software/drivers to reinstall the printer and hopefully the HP Utility so I can regain scanning function, but I cannot figure out how to remove the current printer software, and I do not know if those are the currect files to use.  I understand just deleting the printer will not suffice.
Can anyone provide step-by-step instructions on how to remove the software as well as installation (since I am unclear if I have the correct dmg files)?  Thank you.

    Hi,
First I would suggest repairing the disk permissions, then try reinstalling the HP Software.
Follow the steps below to repair the disk permissions:
    1. Open the the Applications folder.
    2. Go to the Utilities folder.
    3. Double-click on Disk Utility.
    4. Select the hard drive containing the boot volume.
    5. Go to the First Aid tab and select Repair Disk Permissions.
Note: This process may take several minutes depending on the Mac and amount of permissions that need to be repaired. The Progress Log will indicate when the process has been completed.
Once you are done, run the HP-Injket-SW-OSX-Mavericks_v12.34.37.dmg file and follow the steps on screen, be sure to select the HP Scan option while installing to get full functionality of the software.
Please try the steps above and let me know the results,

  • Iphone camera shutter not opening...not sure if software or hardware issue.

    Hey everyone,
So I've had my iphone 4 for about 3 months now. It was working perfectly until last week. The camera shutter will not open for some reason. I can't use the front face or the regular camera. This also does not allow me to facetime. I would turn off the iphone, cancel all the apps, and SOMETIMES it would work, but now it just doesn't. Now the weird thing is that when I downloaded third party camera apps from the apple store, my regular camera was working, but my front face camera was not. Also facebook allows me to snap photos, but not front face photos....
I'm not sure if this is a hardware issue, only because my iphone was working perfect for months before this problem occurred. Should I restore it?
I've had such terrible luck with iphones, if i can't do anything about it and Apple has to replace it, this is the second time i'm going to have to replace the phone since getting the iphone in april.
    PLEASE HELP!

A simple search via the forums here or google would have revealed a multitude of posts about this issue, basic troubleshooting, and possible resolutions.
The "More Like This" section to the right of the posting should also be helpful.

  • Keyboard does not connect - have narrowed to a software issue as it works in safe mode, but do not know how to resolve the software issue

I was in the process of connecting a Razer Blackwidow USB keyboard to my iMAC and something went wrong.
The new keyboard doe not respond and now my bluetooth keyboard does not work either. No connectivity whatsoever.
I've tried a number of things, including resetting the PRAM / NVRAM and SMC (interesting that the computer responds to the keyboard commands that are required to reset the PRAM). I also checked all the universal access setting to make sure nothing was interfering with normal keyboard operation.
btw, blutooth seems to think the keyboard is connected I get a gree light. I can even go through the process of unpairing and pairing and it allows me to type in the numberical code to pair the keyboard, but after that, it still does not work.
When I start the machine in safe mode, the keyboard works fine. So I've narrowed this down to a software problem. I tried to go to another user account to see if it's just associated with the current user, but since I have no keyboard connection at all, I can't type in a password, so that's no good.
I've eliminated a number of applications that I have recently installed (including the Razer set up app) that might interfere with keyboard operation, but no luck.
Any suggestions on how to go about tracking down this software issue?
    Thanks - musikman7

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” (without the quotes) and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Copy or drag — do not type — the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|edu\.mit|org\.(amavis|apache|cups|isc|ntp|postfix|x)/{print $3}'
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|edu\.mit|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null
Important: If you synchronize with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null
Remember, steps 1-5 are all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • HP Printer Software Installation will not complete

I have an HP Officejet 8500 wireless bought in late 2011.  Never an issue until a recent new printer added to the computer seems to have changed an unknown setting and now printer or computer will not recognize or initiate a wireless print request.  Have tried all firmware updates, software updates, etc.  Printer is perfectly connected to wireless network established by router.  Any wireless print request from my MacBook is met with a "printer offline" description and sits in printer que.  Printer works(ed) fine when connected via USB to MacBook.
Thought to uninstall/reinstall printer software hoping to reachieve initial set up defaults which have been working well prior to addition of new printer to computer.
Uninstalled HP software; result was normal.  Inserted original software CD and tried to re-install software; result was as expected until step 5.  Comments now read Installing HP Scan, Install was successful.  Software has stalled on "5 items remaining" and will not move on to "4 items remaining" as next step.
HP Uninstaller is not yet in HP application file, Attempting to "quit" HP Installer generates a warning window indicating "files could be damaged" which is same window generated when trying to shut down computer using Apple shutdown command. Shutdown ends up being cancelled by HP Installer.
Computer is stuck and I'm stuck and I still don't know if reinstall would have solved original problem.  Hours into troubleshooting... any help available would be appreciated.  MacBook running OS X 10.6.8 all updates complete.  Thanks

Thanks Bob - yes - setup from printer display to wireless network was done originally when printer was new and again today in attempt to reestablish whatever setting might have been accidentally changed.  Printer is "perfectly" connected to wireless network with Excellent signal quality, etc... As is Macbook perfectly connected to wireless network.
Problem now is that when trying to reinstall original HP printer software to computer the installation process has frozen.  I now cannot end the installation process or shut down the computer without potential fear of "damaging files".  I also am concerned that if I power off manually (hard shutdown) that I will not be able to uninstall those HP files that have been installed thus far before the process stalled.

It is quite possible the battery door may get your phone in working order again. I'm not sure if the store has it in stock, but it is available in our warehouse for $14.99 which can be ordered via customer service.
