Printer stops... usb error 79

Hi,
I've researched this problem on several forums and found only three similar reports with no solutions offered.
I've a Brother MFC printer that has worked fine for two years.... I can print a small amount of text at which point the printer queue reports that the printer has stopped... and a USB error of 79.
I've deleted and reinstalled drivers. Searche for updated drivers.... swapped cables, tried by USB 2.0 card and also the built-in USB 1.0. Other usb devices seem to be OK.
My next step is to find a printer that I know works and try that one... unless someone out there has already seen this problem
Thanks,
iltfp

How sweet it is.
Many thanks.
I stepped through the process above.... the Printer Setup Repair is nice software. I ran everything that it offers. It repaired a few permissions but otherwise everything was Ok.
I still had the same problem.... . which caused me to go back to basics: steps one, two, and three.... checking connections (again) and cables (again). But this time with conviction that my printer and the computer were not the problem.
I swapped out a USB extension cable... and bingo, it now works. I've printed a few documents. I swapped the extension cable back in, and reproduced the problem.
This solves the problem, but does not solve the puzzle for me because the cable has worked up until now (over a year), and it has not been abused in any way. The cable works with my other usb devices. Perhaps cleaning a port?
Interesting... but now that the printer is working, without the extension, I'll leave this little mystery and move on. I've learned about some great trouble shooting software while also giving myself a tour of the utilities that come bundled with the OS. Since the software and hardware just work... I've never had to open the hood to see what is inside. Nice. Very nice.
So many thanks....

  • Time capsule with USB printer stop to work.

Two months ago, I installed a brand new Time Capsule 2T. Initial configuration went without any issue.I installed an HP wireless printer and a second HP Laserjet to the USB port on time capsule. Everything was working well and suddenly the printer hooked on USB port stop working. Print job remains in the queue and nothing happens even using my MBP or using a PC connected to Time Capsule. The wireless printer is still working fine. So, I did a soft reset by pressing the button at the back of Time Capsule but it doesn't solve the problem. Both MBP and PC cannot connect to USB printer. The only way to recover printing capability is to unplug power on Time Capsule and re-plug it. In this case, MBP and PC could print. I don't know when this issue begins and I cannot predict when printing capability issue on USB printer will occur. I'm pretty sure this a Time Capsule issue or OS issue.
    Couple things I tried:
    - Uninstalled printer and re-added
    - All drivers are up-to-date
    - Time Capsule firmware is up-to-date
    - MBP running OS X Mountain Lion with latest patches
    - PC Windows Vista Ultimate with latest patches.
Any idea what could cause this?

Yes, your solution of the power cycle of the TC shows that this is caused solely by the poor networking ability of the TC. There is a flaw in the firmware that is causing the issue. The issue affects a number of things.. yours is just one example of it.
There is no solution. I cannot even give you a true work around using just the TC..
Best solution is of course to get a network printer.. usb is seldom designed for network usage. You can purchase an ethernet to USB print server but the cost of the item would be half the cost of the new printer. And useless item into the future. So consider carefully.. maybe time for a new printer.
In the TC do the following.
    1. Reduce the firmware to 7.6.1 if you recently installed latest 7.6.3 that could be some of the issue.. it has proven less than great update. Hold down option key when you select firmware and you can downgrade.
    2. Factory reset after you do 1. or do it anyway if you want to stick to the latest klugde firmware. But clean up the old settings by using new setup.
    3. Use all names that comply to windows standard.
Short,, 10-20 characters should be plenty.. less than 10 also good.
    No spaces..
    Pure alphanumeric.
    4. If the TC is set to main router, set the dhcp server to much shorter lease time. I suggest even 20min. The increase in network traffic for dhcp renewal will be tiny.. but it will keep ARP tables updated better than the full day used by default.
    5. From the windows side make sure the TC is set to the correct workgroup under file sharing.. generally WORKGROUP.
    6. If you still have issues.. and I think you may mitigate the problem but not resolve it doing the above.. a nightly auto reboot from an electrical timer.. crude but we have done such things before to fix crummy domestic level router to make them reliable.

  • PRINTER USB ERROR

I GET AN ERROR THAT MY HP OFFICEJET PRINTER IS USB 2.0 AND NOT WORKING WITH USB 3.0??
THIS STARTED ALL OF A SUDDEN, IT WAS WORKING FINE I TRIED ALL USB HUBS??

    Hi Christina,
Thank you for posting this issue on the TechNet community forums.
From the description I understand that you're having problems with your USB 2.0 HP OfficeJet Printer not working when plugged into a USB 3.0 port, is this correct?
This should not be the case as USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 so I decided to Google this for you and this is what I found. Let me know if it helps!

  • Airport Extreme - problem with usb printer and usb disk

I have Airport extreme with firmware 7.1. I try connect usb disk and usb printer with usb-hub to airport. I can't get disk or printer working. Also try connect only disk or printer without usb-hub to airport getting same problem. How I get disk and printer working with wireless network (windows pc computers)?
    1)
    My printer is HP PSC 1210 all-in-one ( http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=90764&lc=fi&cc=fi&dlc=fi&lang =fi&cc=fi&y=0&x=0 )
    - printer seems working fine after installing bonjour printer installing wizard.
    - I get error (in windows) when I try print document from word. Error only says "error printing" in status value.
    - In airport utility all seems ok. Airport see usb printer "Hewlett-Packard psc 1200 series"
    - printer protocol is RAW and driver manufacture HP (also try with microsoft driver)
    2)
USB disk is Targa Databox II 250
    - Airport utility says "Disk needs repair. Errors were found with a disk connected to your airport base station. please connect the usb disk to your mac or pc and use disk utility or another disk application to repair the disk"
    - I have connected Targa usb disk to windows pc and run scandisk and defreg. No errors found in windows. Result..no help for airport

I have a similar problem to your second issue. Tried connecting a Netdisk to the USB port of the Airport Extreme and it also said there was a problem with the disk. Have performed a low level format on the disk and Airport Extreme still complained the disk had a problem.
After unplugging the disk, my route decided to stop allowing wireless connections even after rebooting. Ended up having to hard reset the Airport Extreme and reconfigure it with my old settings to work again.
FWIW, the first Airport Extreme I purchased today only worked on 802.11a and steadfastly refused to work on b/g so had to get a replacement. I suspect Apple's quality control is not quite as good as it used to be.

  • My Mac desktop went offline and printer stopped working

My Mac desktop went offline and printer stopped working.  I have attempted everything I can do, without luck. When I attempt to reset my belkin router, the mac will not accept my password. My PC, set up 3" away, is online. HELP

It means, tentatively, that system files are missing or damaged and you will have to reinstall Snow Leopard. See the following:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • My printer stopped working

My computer said to replace ink so i bought new ink and installed them and now it won't print at all.  I have ran all the test that i could but nothing happened.

    Hi peneg,
Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I understand that your printer has stopped working since replacing an empty ink cartridge.
To better assist you, would you please provide some further information:
    1)       What make/model/product number of HP printer do you have?
    2)      How is your printer connected (USB cable, ethernet, or wireless)?
    3)      Is the printer plugged directly into a wall outlet instead of surge protector or power strip?
    4)      Are you using genuine HP cartridges or refilled cartridges?
    5)      Did you have any error messages before replacing the ink cartridge other than the low ink alerts?
    6)      what operating system are you using (Windows 7, Mac 10.8, or Windows 8, etc)?
    Thank you.

  • Printer Stopped Working

We are running OS X Server 10.3.9. We connect VPNs to our office and have a mix of Mac & WinXP Computers. We setup an HP Bus Inkjet 2800 off of the USB port of the Server. We then started Print Services on the OS X Server. For the Queue we used all of the protocols to share (AT/LPR/SMB). All went well to start, winXP over the VPN and in the office printed ok. Out of the blue we can no longer print from WinXP machines. Coincidentally perhaps, the first time a Mac printed over the VPN, with success, we could no longer print from WinXP. Have not been able to get it going again. Restarted print services and the server itself w/no luck. Deleted and re-added printer...still no luck.
The Log reflects a couple of "Issues". The errors shown are:
    "No Printcap File Name configured!"
    "registermessage_flags:tdbfetch failed"
I'm hoping someone can provide some insight, I'm dying here! :o)
    Acktom

    Acktom -
A few questions... Our printer stopped working out of the blue. We completely reloaded the server tonight and they still do not work.
My question to you: Did they stop working after you applied a system update. Ours did.
Lastly, do you get a message like lpr: clientconnectionfailure in the Windows service log, Print Services ( I think I have it right)? We get this error. then we check /etc/cups/printers.conf and find the name of the printer is spelled differently. HP LaserJet 5Si vs HPLaserjet5Si
I think our problem stems from spacing. But our server worked for about 2 years without any real changes. We have traced it back to that system update. For this reason, we completely reloaded the server to try to resolve it. We applied updates after the server was reloaded thinking this was a positive thing. But really, we have the same problem -- no printing from Windows XP clients.
Our next step is to rename the Appletalk name of the HP Laserjet so there are no spaces in the name.
I also have found that when we add a printer with an address of 192.168.0.51, that is now the queue name for the printer. Where we have a queue specified as HPLaserJet5Si. I think apple has created some problems here. But we have no support contact and cannot afford their support arrangments. So we are trying and not having much luck.

  • Rendezvous Printing Stopped

We had a HP Laser Jet Postscript printer hooked up to our Tower G5 running OS X Server V 10.3.9. We had print services working, and all of our clients could see and print to that HP printer. For some reason though, this morning, it just stopped working. The Server that the printer is connected to can print, but no clients can print.
I can actually delete the HP printer on the printer setup utility on the client, and re - set it back up using Appletalk printing instead of Rendezvous, and it starts working. But it has been working under rendezvous before, it just stopped for no reason.
When I look in the Server Administrator under print services, there are no jobs printing, and nothing in the logs that says any jobs or any problems.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks

  • My HP LaserJet CP1025nw won't print, "Filter failed" error

Whenever I print something, it acts like it's about to then a system notification just says "printing stopped." There is a "Filter failed" error at http://localhost:631/printers/HP-LaserJet-CP1025nw. I have hplip installed, and have reinstalled it a few times. Two things I've tried from searching the web. I cleared the pacman cache and still the same issue. I tried installing foo2zjs  from the AUR, but it would not compile (did not pass the validity check). It prints fine on Linux Mint. I'm out of ideas and don't know where else to go. Any suggestions?

That page's troubleshooting for the "Filter failed" message worked out. I consulted the Wiki before but never found that exact page. I guess I didn't use the best search criteria. Thanks for pointing it out.

  • Please HELP, "iTunes has stopped working" error after connecting iPod video

People please help me out!  I have a Razer Blade gaming laptop with Windows 8 64bit.
I have an iPhone 5, iPad 2 and an iPod video (80GB).  I had some weeks from not connecting the iPod to my computer, but this morning that I did so I can upload some new music to it, iTunes just crash, I get the "iTunes has stopped working" error message when I connect the iPod video.  I do not have this problem with either the iPhone 5 or the iPad 2, when I connect these, iTunes works fine, once I connect the iPod, then all goes down
Procedures that I already tried and that were unsuccessful to solve the problem:
    Uninstall Quicktime
    Uninstall iTunes and reinstall
    Reset the iPod (several times)
    Delete TEMP files on computer
    Restart the computer (several times)
Use a different cable and a different USB port
The iPod is working fine, if I plug it to my car stereo or if I use it with headphones it works great, no problems nor errors.  My computer also identify the iPod as a hard disk, no error messages from Windows, it is just the freakin' iTunes that freezes everytime that I plug the iPod
PLEASE HELP ME OUT, I've searched forums on this particular issue but with no luck.
    Thanks very much!

It is only when I attempt to add a song to my iPod once plugged in that I receive the error "Itunes has stopped working" and forces me to exit the program, without the song being successfully transferred.
Do you have the "Convert to 128 kbps AAC" preference enabled for syncing to the iPod, laur?
If so, it's quite plausible that you've got the iTunes 10.1.0.54 bug and we need to get you updated to 10.0.1.56 as per the following document:

    7. I blame IE11 when there was no such error before its update from IE8.
    8. This is a re-repost from here "http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie11-windows_7/print-spooler-log-error-id-808-internet-explorer/f52ff25c-4702-4ce3-827e-e1e9a5d324cf" and here "http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/7b24d6b9-171a-4703-82f9-81cb4732e02f/print-spooler-log-error-id-808-internet-explorer-11-ms-office-20032007-x86-on-win7-sp1-x64?forum=w7itproappcompat"
    w/o any good answer!
That's it. Any questions are welcome.
    Thank you.
PS: I just wanna confirm that this odd error occurs only when printing from IE11 and MS Office 2003 on Win7sp1x64. MS Office 2007 is not affected!

    OK, Z COMPLETE SOLUTION FOUND!
Although z cause of this odd issue is yet unclear. However it seems to be z HP driver problem after all.
Actually my printer is not HP Deskjet 970Cse but HP Photosmart 1115 Series. Z very nice working dinosaur, which was officially run out by HP Support from WinXPx86 times. Though it was always working
just nice with either HP Deskjet (DJ) 970Cse Win7driver (better) or HP Photosmart (PS) 7200 Series one (worse – when it works no so good with TCP/IP printer installation).
Well… when I got into z recent problem with DJ970cse driver I happened to check if printer works with z PS7200 one. Oops, same not good as before but NO LOG ERROR! A bit of study gave me understanding
that both drivers are using z absolutely same core files but PS7200 driver uses its own PCL Language Monitor as well as z Print Processor (not a standard winprint of Windows).
And while I unfortunately got no any reasonable ideas on how to solve this issue from IT Pros and others MS MVP during a few days after my posting here and there, except those very smart ones
like ‘uninstall, reboot and install again’, I had no option other than to find solution by myself.
I’ve downloaded a bunch of HP printer models Win7x64 driver pack from MS Update Catalog "http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=hp%20deskjet%20970cse" (x86 also available.
This driver pack is for maybe over 400 HP printer models incl. both DJ970Cse & PS7200) and modded its genuine INF file for HardwareID of my PS1115 as HPPHOTOSMART_11150FFF with use of 970Cse driver but also some DLLs and PCL Language Monitor
    of PS7200 one.
This modded by me INF file is attached as a Code Block. Pls be advised that all originally integrated printer devices strings except DJ970cse & PS7200 ones were deleted for convenience and
z 1 new combined string for PS1115 added. Then everybody interested can compare & track z changes done. This modded driver is now installed and working w/o any glitch on 2 of my Win7sp1x64 PCs. Although I’ve maybe spent totally a day or
so on all that fuss of posting about & studying around.
My final conclusion is z very much common one
     – f**k HP… and/or MS as well, when it’s yet unknown why this error occurred after z years of no problem use of DJ970Cse driver but after Win7sp1 updating to IE11 and/or KB2775511 and only with x64 version
    of OS.
    bye for now.
PS: btw, why I’m not able to attach any small text file or post a link to MS site here???!!!
    END
UPDATE 2014-06-12-Thu: there is one more small glitch of printing to paper from IE11 only found! now it's about a Print Processor settings...
pls set not any hp oem print processor but z standard windows one aka 'winprint' to be used for printing in Printer properties > Advanced sub-menu, otherwise a printout is incorrect in part of a printed page header &
footer. a page print preview is ok but z printed header is incomplete = cut at right side, and no footer printed at all.
pls be advised that above note is valid for both modded & genuine driver installed and for both x86 & x64 win7...

  • Printer is at error state W 8.0

Oh my god, i recalled what happened, i was unable to post in the previous post so there was no follow up, made this one today and deleted the contents due to me thinking that the old one was still active. Well, again, the long story.
some xp computers are installed to an hp laserjet 4100, the only that doesnt work is the one with w 8
Had all kind of troubles since that pc arrived.
ill try the short story. printer connected to xxx.xxx.xxx.200
1.- driver from hp (self instaler) wont find a printer in the network. (latest drivers apparently) even if i point to ut. simply wont install.
2.-cpl-->printers-->add network printer---> pl5/pl6/w update drivers (x64 in case you wonter) say that there is no communication with the printer. It wont install
3.-connect to \\xxx.xxx.xxx.200\shared printer (previous driver update in sharing center to the x64 needed) No communication.
4.-cpl-->printer-->add new LOCAL?!!! printer---> use protocol LPTx. After the wizard finished. CMD as Admin--> net use lptx: \\printerpath\printername /persistent:yes     --->Bingo, at least at the beggining.
Then, few days later, when we tried to print an excel sheet, at least just part of it ("print selected area" in pre-print menu). It printed an error message (dont remember which, but the error was that i had to update drivers). Since i had the "latest drivers" installer would not install for same reason, but this is where it stopped printing due to the "printer is at error stage" it said.
did not work until i deleted and re did step 4 (lpt2 this time, with net use/delete command before any changes)
so i reinstalled the printer with the "updated driver" which was the same it had anyways, and surprisingly, it worked (for a week or less) then it came back to the same "printer@error@State"
Could not reinstall the printer from here to date. Tried many combinations.
Hp doctor said my printer was fine. (The other printer i have in that pc), the one i want was not detected.
I did update windows/drivers (though still says win 8 instead of 8.1, but it says that there are no updates available.
Have no more ideas about this. 3 things i cannot do. Roll back to a previous windows. Reinstall windows. change the printer.

    Hi Alien_Invasor,
Thank you!  I can see you put a lot of time and effort into your post which is very helpful for those of us who try to help.
Although I would like to be the one to help, I suspect your question would be better answered in the HP Enterprise Business Community,  as the HP Laserjet 4100 is a commercial model.
My technical expertise is with consumer products and software, I am sure the commercial folks would be happy to help if you re-post your question for them to answer. The HP Enterprise Business Community is an HP Forum designed for the Commercial and Enterprise customers to help one another. I am sure you will find some HP folks there to help too.

  • HP 6500 Wireless Printer Stopped Printing Black Ink When Connected to PC

My printer stopped printing with black ink.  All the other colors seem to work fine.  I hooked up my Mac to test and see if that worked and it did!  I've concluded that it's something to do with the driver since it worked on my Mac, so I re-installed the driver and it still does not print black ink while trying to print from our Dell PC.  Any Ideas?

    Hello Libertyb,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your Officejet 6500 stop printing black ink on your Windows computer. What is your operating system on your computer? Windows.
How is this printer connected? Wireless or USB?
What type of programs are you printing from?
Please verify this information and I will assist you further.
