Printer User Code

I use a network printer that requires user codes. I have been unable to find where I can enter this code on my mac in order to print to network printer. Any suggestions?

There are two ways you can achieve this. One is to use Presets and the other is to use the CUPS web interface.
With regards to the User Codes, if a user will always be using the same code and they have the only user account of the Mac they use, then the CUPS interface would be better as you can set the code as a default (and b&w printing for that matter). But if a user has different user codes, or they are not the only user on a particular Mac, then the Presets could be a better option.
To create a Preset, select to print a document and with the print dialog open, set the user code in the appropriate menu. Then click on the Presets drop menu (located under the Printer name) and select Save As. Give an identifiable name and select it for this printer only and then OK. Now when you print you can select this Preset and the user code fields will be correctly entered.
You could take this a step further and save the b&w setting with this preset. Or you could make two presets, both with the same user code but one as colour and the other as b&w.
If you wanted to make the settings default rather than use Presets then you can open the CUPS web page (http://127.0.0.1:631/printers/) in Safari. This will show the installed print queues. Select the Lanier queue, this will show another page that will have a Maintenance and Administration drop menu. Via the Administration drop menu, select Set Default Options. With the next page that appear select General and then scroll through the listed options until you see the User Code entry. Set your number and then if you wanted to scroll through to the Colour setting you can also set it to B&W. With these set, scroll all the way to the bottom and click Set Default Options. If prompted, enter your Admin name and password to save the change. Now you can exit Safari and test your print settings.

  • How do I configure an IP Printer that requires a user code?

Hi, I am using my Macs in a shared office environment where we have a Ricoh printer accessible via an IP address. The instructions for configuring the printer are written for Windows Vista and Windows XP users (sigh). I am able to add the printer by typing in its IP address, and I get a list of some printer options. But apparently this printer requires clients to log in with a user code before starting a print job and therefore my print commands from my Mac don't get processed. How do I do this from Leopard?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    DXB Law wrote:
Yes, I am aware that it is my own IT management that requires the user code, not the printer,
I only mentioned it because there are many people that think it is all "the printer's fault" that they need a user code.
and my IT management has given me step-by-step instructions for how to configure Windows Vista to transmit that user code to the printer. But it seems that you are saying there is no configuration option in Leopard that allows for the transmission of a user code to a network printer?
I don't know enough about Windows to comment on the different way things are handled. In the case of the Ricoh printers, the user code is submitted with the print job. PCL printers include PJL data along with the job. For PostScript printers, Ricoh does supply drivers with printer extensions that allow for the user to input their user code via the normal user interface.
For non-PostScript network printers, Ricoh uses either a PCL 5 variant or PCL 6/PCL XL. There are several generic drivers for these printer languages, so users on most, if not all, other operating systems can print to the Ricoh printers. Further, Ricoh actually provides the PPDs for their printers that include all the extra functions (user codes, stapling, etc) that are available for a particular model. These PPDs get included in the OpenPrinting foomatic database. That way users of any system that can utilize the foomatic scheme will be able to print to Ricoh printers. This is not limited to Mac OS X. Foomatic supports CUPS, LPRng, LPD, GNUlpr, Solaris LP, PPR, PDQ, and CPS. It would be nearly impossible to write a specific graphical user interface for all the variants of Unix and Linux. That is why you must resort to editing a PPD file by hand.
You may be able to eventually help other Mac OS X users by letting Ricoh tech support politely know that it would be *most helpful* to have an easy to use user interface to input your user code. With there being more and more Mac OS X users, I hope they will do something to keep their customers happy.
Just remember, there are some manufacturers that still use proprietary printer languages for network printers. If they don't support your system, tough luck.

  • Where do I enter a user code for a shared office printer?

    Hello All,
At work we have a shared printer and everyone has separate user codes so we can identify who prints what.  In previous versions of Windows, there is a "Valid Access Tab" which leads one to a place where one can enter a Valid Access code, or
a user code, or a PIN, or whatever you want to call it.
I can not find a place to enter this number in Windows 8.  Please help.

I can not find a place to enter this number in Windows 8.
On which version of W8?  Others have noticed that some functionality related to printing is only available in W8 Pro.  However, so far as I am aware nobody has bothered checking if that is only affecting the availability of GUI support or all support
for such functions.  For example, I showed one poster that it may be that WMIC could be used to provide an alternative to GUI display and left it as a TBD whether that idea could be extended to control via WMIC as well.

and that reminds me that there is even simpler access via Powershell.  So who knows, maybe simpler control too?   ; )

  • Print Dialog box and User Code on Reader 10

    Hello,
I recently updated to Adobe Reader 10 and when I go to print there is apparently a new adobe print dialog box. Which is ok except that it doesn't seem to get my user code info. When I print using the printer... button it prints fine. But if I push ok from the new adobe print dialog it causes an authentication error in the log on the printer. Is there anyway to put in my user code to adobe reader so I don't have to do this extra step? Can I turn off the new Adobe print dialog box and have it just go directly to the OS print dialog box like it used to?
    Thanks,
    dave

Can you tell us if you are using Windows of Mac OS? The Mac OS version of Reader has a Printer button on the bottom of the Print dialog box that brings up the standard printer dialog box.

  • Printing at Ricoh C3501 with user code

My MBP running below printer drivers for printing to Ricoh C3501 with user code.
    foomatic-rip-4.0.6.230.dmg
    gplgs-8.71.dmg
    pxlmono-1.9.dmg
    RicohUserCodes.command
As Matt Broughton recommanded before upgrade. The printing worked fine.
After upgrade to Yosemite, my MBP can no longer print on Ricoh c3501. Checking the printing queue, the print job is gone, but, actually, the doc is not printed.
This was happen if I select color print but using grayscale user code, but this time I select grayscale printing and using grayscale user code and still could not print as my MBP did before iOS upgrade.
After checking my colleagues, all the Mac in my company upgrading to Yosemite have the same printing problem.
Please help out what else I can do to fix the issue.
    Thank you.

  • Printing with user codes on an INFOTEC 2245 network printer

I am trying to print over a windows printserver to an INFOTEC 2245 network printer, using samba. Though I can download a printer driver, there is no possibility in system preferences to specify a user code, needed to get access to the printer. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

    foow wrote:
    using consecutively the manufacturers driver,
If you used the INFOTEC driver from their web site, you will need to run the following command in the Terminal (/Applications/Utilties):
    <pre style="overflow: auto;font-size:small; font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; color: #222; background: #ddd; padding: .3em .8em .3em .8em; font-size: 9px;">sudo chown -R root:admin /Library/Printers/RICOH/</pre>
This assumes that your printer has the PostScript option installed. You can then enter your UserCode under the JobLog section of Printer Features in a print window.
the Gutenprint driver and the generic Postscript driver. No joy.
Neither of those drivers contain options to set user codes.
What puzzles me is that I can print to that printer, with user codes, using CUPS and Samba under Linux. I also tried to use the Linux PPD, or the part relating to user codes, in the OS X PPD, but that did not work either.
There are two PPDs for use on Linux. If your printer has the PostScript module installed, you could use the PostScript PPD from http://openprinting.org/foomatic-db/db/source/PPD/Infotec/PS/Infotec-IS2245PS.ppd
Enter your user code under Printer Features > Feature Sets: JobLog
If your printer does not have the PostScript module installed, you can use the pxlmono drivers from http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/pxlmono
I probably have to conclude that the drivers that are accepted by Snow's CUPS do not provide for user codes at the moment.
There should be no problem getting UserCodes to be accepted -- at least with a direct connection bypassing the Windows print server.

  • Setting the User Code for RICOH Aficio MP C 4000

Hi guys, initially I had trouble setting my office network printer. But the thread at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2235451 helped a lot. Now I am still stuck as the office uses "user codes" for each of the staff but when I tried to set it up, i couldn't punch in any numbers as only 4 options were presented ie nos from 1001-1004.
I might be wrong but it seems to me that the user codes could be hardcoded in a text file somewhere. Question is how do I do that?
    Thanks

so ive read and done everything on this feed. i also noticed that this question was marked at answered but it doesnt seem like the answer should be to hook into another printer.
im trying to print to my office printer, Ricoh aficio mp c5000, and im so close i can taste it but i must be missing something.
ive called applecare, ricoh, downloaded wayyy too many drivers, done everything in this feed and still nothing... well not exactly.
when i hit print the printer wakes up and makes noise but it doesnt pickup any paper or actually print. i can hear things startup and start spinning but nothing prints.
i know that for all the pc's that work on this printer, have to print in black and white or otherwise enter a Valid Access for color. I dont even see the option of valid access in the print settings.
    also
i saw an option of finisher, option tray, upper internal tray, and internal shift tray. would those settings play a part as to why im not printing (using the Ricoh Aficio MP C5000 PXL driver)
    Please help

    Hello Devster,
Thank you to post your question on TechNet forum.
After reviewing the whole post, I have a question to you. You can access the report via the link, http://myServer/Reports_DEVPROJECT/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fData+Mgmt%2fSample+Letter.
From the URL, I can see that the report is located at: /Data Mgmt/Sample Letter, instead of /DataMgmt/Sample Letter. In addition, I found that the target report is "/DataMgmt/Sample HAP Letter" instead of "/DataMgmt/Sample Letter" as the error described. I
am not sure whether you post out the correct code segment.
Please check the above things on your side, and hope it is helpful to you.

  • How to print BAR code in SMART Form

    Hi All,
I have the requirement to print BAR CODE in Smartforms.
For this, I create a character format with Bar code in style forms and create a text element in Smart form and associate bar code character format with this text element.
Now when I look the print preview for the data, then it shows me data in bar code format but not in right format i.e. its shows me all the similar block in bar code.
If you look the bar code in SAP script, its always show you bar code with similar block, but in SMART FORM it will show you exact bar code; as in SAP Script, bar code is generated at printer end and in SMARTFORM bar code is generated as graphic in SAP and then sent to printer for print.
PLease let me know, why in SMARTFORM its not showing BAR CODE in correct format in print preview.
    Thanks

    Hi,
To Create a Bar code prefix:
    1) Go to T-code - SPAD -> Full Administration -> Click on Device Type -> Double click the device for which you wish to create the print control -> Click on Print Control tab ->Click on change mode -> Click the plus sign to add a row or prefix say SBP99 (Prefix must start with SBP) -> save you changes , it will ask for request -> create request and save
    2) Now when you go to SE73 if you enter SBP00 for you device it will add the newly created Prefix
Create a character format C1.Assign a barcode to the character format.Check the check box for the barcode.
The place where you are using the field value use like this
    <C1> &itab-field& </C1>.
You will get the field value in the form of barcode.
Which barcode printer are you using ? Can you download this file and see.
    http://www.servopack.de/Files/HB/ZPLcommands.pdf.
It will give an idea about barcode commands.

    Detailed information about SAP Barcodes
A barcode solution consists of the following:
    - a barcode printer
    - a barcode reader
    - a mobile data collection application/program
A barcode label is a special symbology to represent human readable information such as a material number or batch number
    in machine readable format.
There are different symbologies for different applications and different industries. Luckily, you need not worry to much about that as the logistics supply chain has mostly standardized on 3 of 9 and 128 barcode symbologies - which all barcode readers support and which SAP support natively in it's printing protocols.
You can print barcodes from SAP by modifying an existing output form.
Behind every output form is a print program that collects all the data and then pass it to the form. The form contains the layout as well as the font, line and paragraph formats. These forms are designed using SAPScript (a very easy but frustratingly simplistic form format language) or SmartForms that is more of a graphical form design tool.
Barcodes are nothing more than a font definition and is part of the style sheet associated with a particular SAPScript form. The most important aspect is to place a parameter in the line of the form that points to the data element that you want to represent as barcode on the form, i.e. material number. Next you need to set the font for that parameter value to one of the supported barcode symbologies.
    reward if useful
