Printer utilities no longer exist

for my HP Deskjet 940C, I used to be able to click on a tab for the printer to check cartridge levels and to print a test page.
Now, under 10.6.2, the "supplies" option returns "information not available" and there is no way I have found to generate a test page from the computer.
The driver seems to be one I never used before: Gutenprint v5.2.3. The printer is recognized as a bonjour device.
Is there a way to get my supply info and test page back?

What a bunch of cr@p! (Not your posting, but HP's attitude toward its community of MacOS customers).
They would not DARE to tell Windoze users that they will not support Windows 7 for a whole class of printers. They have behaved like this for years. If only there was another printer company that gave them tough competition!
Here is the relevant text from the link you posted:
+If you are using the Mac OS X 10.6 operating system on your computer, please consider upgrading to a newer HP product that is supported on Mac OS X 10.6. The majority of HP peripherals on the market are supported with Mac OS X 10.6.+
+A small set of HP Inkjet printers beyond 5 years old are not supported with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.+

  • After loading OSX 10.9.2, my Canon printer is no longer found when trying to print from my MacBook Pro.

After loading OSX 10.9.2,  my printer is no longer recognized by my Mac.  I have a Canon MG 7120 and it is connected wirelessly.

    Try:
uninstall all printer manufacturer apps and "utilities"
go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print
control-click on your printer in the column on the left
select "Reset Printing System..." and "reset" in the dialog that follows
do a factory reset on your printer. You'll have to consult the printer manual for how.
power down everything: modem, router, computer, and printer
power up each item in turn in the same order: modem, router, computer, and printer. Let each power up completely before moving on to the next
enter your wifi password in your printer so it can connect to the network
go back to printers & scanners and it should see your printer and download a driver for it from Apple (if there is one)
if that doesn't work there are a few options
look on the printer manufacturer's website for an updated driver
see if Gutenprint for Mac OS X has a driver
see if your printer will work with AirPrint or a generic driver. See: OS X Mountain Lion: If the software for your printer can’t be found (the reference says Mountain Lion but it still applies for Mavericks.)

    Mac OS 10.5 /
I deleted the " Private" folder ... and emptied the trash. So the folder and its contents no longer exists on my computer at all !!!
I do have the OS 10.5 dvd that i purchased years ago...
But my computer will not start from it on its own.
My question is what is the open source or terminal language code used to tell my mac to look in the DVD rom drive for startup info?  I know that im not the only person in this world who has deleted the "PRIVATE" folder and emptied the trash so it no longer exists on their machine...
That said theres gotta be a common fix for a Power PC G4 that has the OS X dvd in the rom drive but wont look to it to reinstall the vital contents of the PRIVATE folder.
Once again there is not a copy of this file or its contents in the recycle bin...
Also rebooting the machine , pressing and holding the letter C does not prompt the machine to look to the dvd rom drive.
I was reinstalling pro tools and figured I would make some room by cleaning my computers HD...
Lol It was a bad choice to delete this file ...
    Thanks guys

Okay sorry it took forever to respond... But for a while there I gave up on this computer!!!!
Money's been tight lately , so taking it in to a professional was not yet an option... though I did consider it eventhough.
Anyway long story short im glad I didnt spend any money because I already had all the tools necessary to fix this issue but was going about it in the wrong way. Okay so here is my scenario and the breakdown... Though this may not fix the issue for everyone :( which *****... But I know we all will have different circumstances.
    Anyway here we go...
Okay so first things first....  Years ago I purchased the OS 10.5.1 disk ... So that has always been in my possession!!!!
I realize that some may not have a disk to reflash your OS to your hard drive... but if you do your in luck.
2ndly ... I had an external harddrive with all of my itunes downloaded music so it was more than okay with me to delete my primary HD because all the important stuff could either be copied over or repathed to be located.
-------If you dont want to read through the whole story the fix is summed up in the bottom section-------
    Okay so now the SOLUTION!!!!
By trial and error , and pure boredom I opened up my computer to clean the inside...
    AND
    "Disconnected the primary HD"
and just because ....... REBOOTED my computer. Just to see what it would do.
Upon restart and though it looked like it would repeat its usual cycle...
About 1 minute in to that process my computer froze for about 2 seconds and flashed to the OS installation screen.
Mind you I havent seen this screen yet... Probably hasnt been since I installed the OS years ago.
After a bit of trial and error...
I decided to tell my computer to startup from the OS 10.5 disk located in my dvd rom drive and restarted once again...
    this setting is under
    Utilities / startup disk
After a little more trial and error ... I realized that I could reconnect the primary HD , restart the machine and return to the OS installation menu.
    So upon this discovery
I went to the Disk Utility located under Utilities
Highlighted my primary HD located in the left hand column
    Once highlighted ...
In the heading section on the right I selected the option
    Erase
in which I erased My current OS on my primary HD ...
I used the first option in the list under security... Because it seemed like the least invasive and would take the least amount of time to see if this process would actually work.
    I FORGOT to add something...
Another reason why I deleted my primary HD!!!!!
I forgot to say that it WOULD NOT!!!!! Show up in the STARTUP list as an option...Even After multiple reboots....
But like clockwork... Once I deleted its name IT SHOWED UP as an option!!!!
So back to the next step...
I returned to the STARTUP option under utilities ... And was then able to see MY primary HD now as a startup option...
But ofcourse it had no name because it we previously erased it.
So when Clicking my newly erased HD ... I was almost immediately prompted to REINSTALL the OS ...
Which said it would take about 57 minutes ... But I believe was alot less...
My issue was resolved ... My computer then stated the install was SUCCESSFUL!!!!!!! :))))))))))) lol ;)
It was like I was setting up for the first time ;) asking for my registration info...
The dilemma of deleting the private folder and emptying the trash is finally over resolved. Done ... and no extra money spent!!!!!!!!!
Its really crazy that the information for such a simple thing is not readily available. Especially being such a simple fix.
I know im not the only person who's had this issue , because i've seen numerous posts with similar wording.
I also know I wont be the last person to have this issue... So I hope this synopsis makes sense.
    -------One more time the fix------
*Insert your OS dvd into your dvd rom drive.
*Unplug your primary HD or corrupted startup disk
    *Reboot your machine...
Upon restart your primary HD will not be recognized...
    * you will then be prompted to select your language.
    Once selected
*Click Utilities/startup... Highlight the the selection that refers to the OS dvd located in the dvd rom drive.
    * Click restart...
!!!!!!!!!!Be sure to reconnect your Primary HD Before your computer restarts and you hear the chime!!!!!!!!
If you do not replug your HD before the chime it will not be recognized.
    In that case restart again.
    Upon restart once again
    *Choose your language...
    *Click Utilities / disk utility
In the left column select and
    *Highlight your HD ...
Then towards the top portion / center of the page
    *Click the heading Erase
Then on the page toward the bottom
    *Click security options
This will then provide erase options.
    I USED THE FIRST OPTION
    "Dont erase data"...
    *click OK
    * click erase...
Once erased which should take a few seconds
    *Cancel the disk utility...
    * Click Utilities / startup
And your newly erased HD should now appear in the list.
    * Select your drive from the list by highlighting
It should no longer have a name.
*Once selected, you will then be prompted to restart and install the OS to your newly erased HD...
    Thats it!!!!
Once everything reinstalls re-add your personal info or registration info and you are up and running.
    Goodluck ;)

    Dear All,
I created the EventListener for "before Print", Its working fine, but some times its shows the below attached Error.
    "Error #:30476
Error String : The requested action could not be completed because the object no longer exist."
I used 3 scripts for "EvenListener"
    (1) Main Script [before print]
    (2) EventListener On
    (3) EventListener  Off
I placed the scripts in the below path
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Startup Scripts CS4\Adobe InDesign\
I'm unable to find and solve this problem, Some times its working fine and some time its not working.
But this is not affected my hole project, while creating the  ".ps" then before its showing the Error.
I checked so many ways and source code also, but I'm unable to solve this problem.
Please any one can suggest or give the solutions.
    Thanks  in advance

    Thanks Jongware!
I can see that the code is working when integrated into my script, but I don't understand why it's working. Any explanation you can provide is greatly appreciated, or can you point me in the right direction to read up? (I'm a newbie).
I guess I was using cached variables?
The solution you provided, does it use a specific programming concept I can research more?
    Thanks again!

  • Error message: "playlists selected for updating no longer exist"

I tried to update my ipod nano and I guess I had deleted a playlist, but since then, I have not been able to update. Every time I try, I get the following message:
"Cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for updating no longer exist."
I haven't been able to highlight which playlists are selected to begin with.
I read through the manual and thought that maybe rebooting the whole system might work. So I deleted Itunes from my computer and re-installed.
Then I tried re-setting my ipod. So now I have nothing on my ipod.
I also deleted everything from my library, thinking it might help to start from scratch. Nothing has worked.
How do I "select" and "unselect" playlists so I can get up and running again?

    Here you go.

  • Error message iPod cannot update b/c all of the playlists no longer exist

Hello. I have been getting this error message. "Songs on the iPod "MAR(the name of my iPod)" cannot update because all of the playlists selecting for updating no longer exist." And my playlists are still on the left side in my iTunes. They do exist. I have a feeling ths might have to do with the fact that on vacation the person I was visiting gave me a gift of putting all of his music that would fit into the external hard drive part of my iPod, and for the past week or so I have been putting that music onto my 40 GB portable hard drive at home. I suspect I took a vital folder out of my iPod by accident. Right now I have the folder iPod_control if I open my iPod up in My Computer. Am I missing something? Right now my iPod is empty because iTunes made a composite playlist last week and I deleted it thinking I could get my real playlists back. Can you help me, or reccomend a site/someone who can? Thank you.
    PC   Windows XP

    hiya!
And my playlists are still on the left side in my iTunes. They do exist.
let's just doublecheck this. folks get this message if they have "automatically update selected playlists only" selected in their itunes "ipod" preferences tab. so bring up that tab ("edit > preferences", click "ipod" while the ipod is showing up in the source list), and do a playlist by playlist crosscheck of the playlists selected in that tab, and the playlists showing up in the itunes sourcelist.
is there any playlist selected in the preferences tab that isn't showing up in the sourcelist?
    love, b

  • TS3249 How can I delete an iMovie file reference to a server that no longer exists?

I am using iMovie 11 and used to have a NAS that I've removed. Whenever I open iMovie, i get a prompt stating that the NAS server (name) no longer exists.  I thought I had moved all my project files to an external hard drive but I must have missed one.  I've tried deleting the com.apple.iMovieApp.plist file but this didn't stop the prompt.  The prompt happens every 5 seconds or so until I close iMovie.
Is there a way to reassociate the missing file to my iMovie project?  When I clip on the "missing source clip" in the preview window, I cannot change the properties of the clip to reassociate it to the correct location.
    I am running OS X lion v 10.7.4, iMovie 9.0.8.

Yeah, this is quite late. Here's how I think you can do it. Run Show Package Contents on the .rcproject file. Find the file simply called "Project". Make a backup copy, and then open it with TextWrangler or similar program*. Search for the path in the file, fix it, and save. Try it in iMovie again. (The version I have is 9.0.4).
    * TextWrangler allows you to edit binary XML files, which is what Project is. I'm sure there are other programs that can do the same. This one is free.

  • Songs cannot be synced: playlists selected for syncing no longer exist

"Songs on the ipod cannot be synced because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist"
I finally filled all of the memory in my nano for the first time, and I got a popup to put all of my playlists in one file so it wouldn't take up as much space. When I saw it, I deleted it, I wasn't aware of what was going on. I tried to fix it by changing the settings to manually sync music but that didn't work. Then I restored my ipod and now it doesn't have any songs on it. So I tried to uninstall everything, itunes and ipod to restore the settings back to normal but that didn't work either. Everytime I connect my nano, all it says it can't sync because the playlists don't exist anymore. I don't know what to do anymore. Can someone help me?

Not sure what I've done. I recently downloaded newer version of itunes. Then when synching, I had too much music in my library for the ipod to handle so it told me about doing the smart playlist. • "cannot be updated because Itunes selected no longer exist"

Hello. When I hooked up my Ipod for the first time it sucked up the 800+ MP3 files from My Music folder. Now I want to update my library and delete them all from the Ipod (not my hard drive) and start over with songs from the Itunes folder.
I unchecked all of the songs in the library and reconnected, but it will not delete them and I get this error message:
"Cannot be updated because one or more of the Itunes playlists selected to update no longer exist"
I'm thinking I need to "reboot" the Ipod and clear out the memory but I don't know how. Or somehow figure out how to get around this error. Can anyone help???

The instructions in that link are for an older version of iTunes. If you have got as far as creating a new playlist to sync from (contained in the first part of the instructions), connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod

  • Playlists for syncing no longer exist?!

so yesterday i had an urge to finally download the newest version of itunes. everything went smoothly until it was complete. i noticed that all my songs on my ipod got deleted. when i tried to sync all my songs again, a message popped up:
"Songs on the iPod "Win's iPod" cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist"
i went on control panel and deleted the program and then downloaded it again (even an older version) but it still brought me back to my old itunes with a song i added before to see if it syncing would work. i thought if i downloaded it again, i would have a new itunes with the playlists needed from the message.
do you happen to know what playlists the message is talking about?
    thanks!

what version of itunes are you currently running? (checking on this because the instructions for getting past this one differ, depending on whether you've got a version 7.0.x or an earlier version.)
