Printer Utility for Canon i9900 and OS 10.5.4

I'm having trouble getting my System to recognize the printer utility for my Canon i9900. I can print with the standard mac printer utility but I don't get all the functionality. I've tried Printfab as well, no luck. Any ideas?

How is the printer connected? Usually the utility will only work if the printer is connected via usb. I don't think there is a Gutenprint driver for this printer, but the utility will also only work when the printer has been added with the manufacturer's driver.
Hope this helps.

    No, that's not necessary.
You Mac most likely sat in inventory before it was sold so the latest drivers were not installed.
If you tried using the printer and couldn'tget it to work, go here >  http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html
If this is a USB connected printer, make sure it's connected to your Mac, then at that link click:  Detect Your Product

  • Wireless print server DPR-1260/Canon i9900 and Snow Leopard 10.6.1

    Hello,
I have recently got my Mac Book Pro and have the latest system (10.6.1) and cannot print with a wireless print server. I have a Dlink DPR-1260, and a Canon i9900 printer. I have done everything and I still cannot print. Please I need help!!!!
    Susan

Hello Susan and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Unfortunately the Canon Mac drivers have never worked correctly with the wireless print servers. I tested a Dlink model some years ago and while the Windows drivers for the same model would work fine, the Mac driver would always fail.
The only solution was to use the Gutenprint driver suite for Mac OS X. This software provided drivers for many brands of printers including Canon, and got our A3 inkjet working - albeit it wasn't always available as it seemed to never wake from sleep mode.
Checking the Gutenprint drivers included with 10.6, which are added when you do a custom install or by running the Optional Installer package within the 10.6 DVD, the i9900 is not listed as a supported model. It appears that only the Canon version of the i9900 driver is included with 10.6.
So, you have some decisions to make...
    1. Don't use wireless and just have the i9900 plugged in directly to the Mac via USB
    2. Replace the Dlink with an Airport Express. Due to the way in which Apple has made their Airport units, they will let you use the Canon driver.
    3. Keep the Dlink and purchase an alternate driver software package called Printfab. If you are printing mostly graphics on the i9900 then this driver suite can provide you with more colour control than the Canon driver. And it will work with the Dlink like the Gutenprint drivers do.
    Hope this helps

  • Looking for Canon i9900 print driver

I am looking for a print driver for my Canon i9900 large format printer
Canon support indicates no driver is available

You will have to use the Gutenprint v5.2.10 driver package. That model is too old for Canon to provide a supporting driver.

  • Printer Dialog for Canon S9000 Printer

I dug out my large format Canon S9000 printer and am having trouble color correcting the photographic prints. Part of the trouble seems to be that in OS 10.6 I don't seem to be able to get the printer dialog box from the printer utility. When you go into the printer driver all you get is Canon S9000 in the box and I don't seem to be able to get into change any of the driver settings. Can anyone help? Thanks.

    spinosaurus wrote:
I did download the latest driver for the S9000 available, although it is updated I believe only through OS X v10.5 and not 10.6.
The driver update is for 10.6. If you have v10.36.2.0 installed then at least there should be some level of comparison between my setup and yours.
I talked to Canon support and they told me that Apple writes the printer drivers for the OS systems and not them.
This is not true. Canon creates the drivers and provides them to Apple so that it they are available via Software Update.
Since you are using the same driver from Canon, maybe you could answer some of the following questions: What color space do you use for importing your photograph, sRGB, AdobeRGB, ProRGB, etc.? What color space do you use for viewing your photograph? Do use any ICC print profiles to print?
For the photo that I used to test, it was taken on my Canon EOS7D and imported using Image Capture. The Get Info for the photo shows the colour space as RGB and the colour profile as sRGB IEC61966-2.1.
For printing I selected the Canon profile to match the Canon Photo Plus Glossy, which is shown as GL3/SG3 in ColorSync. When PS was managing the colour this was selected via the PS print dialog > printer profile. When I selected the printer to manage, I used the Quality & Media tab to select the paper which in turn sets the profile, as seen in the Color Options menu.

  • Canon i9900 and Pages presets

I'm new to Mac and I'm finding the switch difficult. I have a Canon i9900 printer. This printer does up 13x17 pages. I used it to print 12x12 scrapbooking pages on my PC but switched to a Mac because of it's color matching capabilites. But now that I'm on the Mac I cannot print anything larger than standard 8.5x11. I've downloaded the latest canon drivers and installed them. Has anyone run into this? When I set a custom page size in i works '06 Pages it immediately reverts back to 8.5x11. It won't even try the 12x12. Apple Chat said this is because most printers won't do that size... BUT... mine will. If I could get it working. I'm so frustrated, can someone help?

    Hi there.
Once you have created the paper size you were after, you still must choose it. It will not automatically be chosen.
These are the steps I am using to create a template which is 30cm by 30cm (12 inches by 12 inches)
    1. with pages open, go to Page Setup.
    2. In the dialogue, select Manage Custom Sizes from the list.
    3. In the next screen it will show you the list of all previously assigned custom paper sizes. Since you want one for scrapbooking, click on the small + sign at the lower left of the list and when Untitled appears, doubleclick on it. Then change it to Scrapbook (so we are on the same page...)
    4. Under Page Size change it to either 30cm for height and width. Or 12in if inches is what you see.
    5. Under Printer Margins on the same screen you should be able to choose Canon i9900, or just use User Defined if you like. These are the margins of blank space on all sides of the paper.
    6. Click Okay. You should go back to the Page Attributes screen. You may have to select Scrapbooking from the list of available paper sizes as it will revert to the last choice.
    7. Click Okay on the page setup menu once you see it indicate Scrapbooking has been chosen.
This should give you a square Pages document which satisfies your needs.
When it comes to printing, you may still have to choose the proper paper size. Choose your printer and under paper handling use 'scale to fit paper size' and choose the paper size chosen. I think it defaults (at this point) to the sizes built into the printer. Since Scrapbooking is a user defined size, it has to be told to use it.
Good luck. let us know how it works. It appears to output to Preview, but my Printer is average sized, not in the class of John Holmes.

  • Firewire drivers for Canon i9900???

I had firewire drivers for my Canon i9900 for Leopard (10.5) but upon upgrading to Snow Leopard (10.6) the Mac wouldn't see the printer anymore. I read someone mentioning to try a USB cord for someone in the same situation and, presto, the Mac saw it -- but I prefer using the firewire port (if only to free up a USB port).
Isn't that standard to include firewire support in the drivers? Do I need a special driver?

    Update: 10/08/09
FW driver causes printer to hang endlessly without apparent reason. Print cue will show "printing" but nothing happens. Turning the printer off and on again, sometimes several times will usually get it to finally print.
Neither the FW or USB drivers seem to support edge to edge printing anymore, a feature Canon bragged about on this printer and one I depend upon; Letter Extra and Tabloid Extra have disappeared from the dialog box and choosing borderless printing has no affect and the extent slider is grayed out. Furthermore the non-print area around the paper edge seems to have gotten wider with these new drivers, all and all making this printer next to useless to me. Is this Canon's way of telling us they don't really support this printer anymore?
I'm back to the USB driver, which at least prints, after I watch the spinning beachball for 20 seconds. Anyone figured out how to get edge to edge to work?

  • Yosemite printer driver for Canon Pixma IP3000

This is not so much a question as a solution to getting my old Canon Pixma IP3000 working again after upgrading to Yosemite.
Although the printer is listed, when I wanted to add it I found no software for it from Apple. Phoning Canon they also said they have no software for the IP3000 and Yosemite. To make a long story short, after much trial and error trying out other drivers which were listed on "choose driver" I found that the IP4500 driver can be configured for cassette feed AND duplex and works on Yosemite. Hope this helps someone else to keep some of the older products going in our throw away society!

I just installed that driver on a 10.10 VM and also found that there is no Duplex Print & Margin menu - just Margin.
I then installed it on a 10.8 VM to be sure the lack of the menu was not due to using the 10.8 driver on 10.10. However I found that even on 10.8, there was no Duplex Print & Margin. So it would seem that duplex printing was not an option for the iP3500.
I then checked an alternate driver suite called Gutenprint and added the iP3500 Gutenprint printer. It also did not support the ability to print duplex.
But when I added another printer, this time using the Gutenprint iP3000 driver, there was the ability to print two sided from the Layout menu. So then I thought it might be worth checking if the Canon iP3000 driver also provides a duplex setting, but the last supported OS for this model was 10.6 so I did not even try to install that old driver on 10.10.
Here is a link to the Gutenprint driver if you would like to try that.

  • Need printer driver for Canon imageclass D320

Anyone direct me to a printer Driver for the Canon Imageless 320?
    Canon support says none available.
    Macbook pro under Yosemite.
    thanks

Canon never made an OS X version of its proprietary driver "CARPS" that is used by the D320. And the Canon driver link provided above is just for Canon inkjets - there is no support for your model.
If you want to print to the D320 from the Mac, you would need to install a virtual machine application like VMware's Fusion and then load Windows 7 into the VM.

  • Printer driver for Canon MP730

i am am totally fed up with my HP 8500 officejet printer (paper jam all the time). I want to start using my older printer (Canon MP 730) again in combination with an iMac running on OS X Yosemite
DId anyone find a printer driver for a Canon MP 730 that works properly with an iMac running on OS X Yosemite?  I am only using the printing and scanning function of  the Canon MP 730 (do not use the fax).

The MP730 was released in 2003 and support ended in 2010. The last OS X driver that Canon released was for Mac OS X 10.6 and this will not install on Yosemite.
So your options are Gutenprint v5.2.10, which is free, or PrintFab, which costs €49.
Note that Gutenprint v5.2.10 is not digitally signed for Yosemite so its installation will be blocked by Gatekeeper. To get past Gatekeeper, right-click on the Gutenprint installer package and select Open from the pop-up menu that appears. Now you will get the option to install.
