Printer won't accept new black cartridge

laser jet 2605dn does not accept new black cartridge

There are Black cartridges and Photo (black) that are not interchangable.  Some further information that may help identifying the correct cartridge is shown here.  Your B209a does not use a Photo cartridge, you need Black.
If you Contact HP they may exchange the Photo cartridges with Black.

  • Help! My printer won't accept new cartridge

I bought a Photosmart C6283 All-in-one when I lived in the Middle East about 2 years back.  I've now moved to UK and need to get new ink cartridges for it.  On the HP UK site I got the HP 363 cartridge as recommended for my printer. But on loading it the printer says my printer is configured for HP cartridge 177 only.  That was the old cartridge that i used before but I can't get HP177 in the UK.  Plus I bought two HP363 cartridges which seem a waste now. Is there some way I can use both HP177 cartridges which I already have and new HP363 cartridges for the one's that are empty.

You will need to Contact HP to request a "Regionalization Reset". There should not be any charge for this, it is covered as part of the cartridge warranty. You will need to have access to your computer and printer while on the line with HP. You will also need to have a set of cartridges for the new region, once the reset is complete cartridges from the original region will no longer work.  It is not possible to mix cartridges from different regions.

  • Printer won't recognize new cartridge

My printer (All-in-one, 1200 series) won't recognize a new cartridge.
When the present one ran out of ink, I purchased a brand new Hp cartridge.  When I installed it, it says E (error) and won't do anything.  Thinking there was something wrong with this crtridge, I purchased another one....same thing.
I put in the empty cartridge, and it prints, but nothing comes out as it is empty.
Today, I called HP tech support, and they told me my printer was old and that I need to buy a new one!!!!!
    Some help!
I didn't have any refill black ink, but I do have colored.  I put blue ink in the empty black cartridge, and it is printing again beautifully.
Can anyone tell me why the printer won't print with the brand new cartridges????

    Hey Foldy,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
For the printer not recognizing the new ink cartridge that is installed, I have included two documents for you to follow. The first one is 'Check Print Cartridge Light Blinking'. Some of the steps you have already completed, please do the steps that you have not done already.
The second document is 'The Print Cartridge Detected is the Wrong Type'. Again some of the steps you will have already completed, please complete the steps that you haven't.
If you are still having the same issue after this, please let me know if the error has changed, and what lights are blinking on the printer.
    Looking forward to your reply.

  • My 4355 officjet will not recognise a new black cartridge when inserted

Hey ,  Thanks for getting back to me regarding this issue.  Because the troubleshooting steps provided failed to resolve this black cartridge detection issue, a new black cartridge will need to be inserted in your product to verify if the cartridge you're currently using is defective or not. If a new black cartridge resolves your issue, then the current cartridge is defective. If the current cartridge is a Genuine HP Cartridge it will have a warranty date on it and will be entitled as per the cartridge warranty to a replacement through HP.  If a new cartridge fails to resolve this issue then the printer will need to be replaced.   Please respond to this post with the result of trying a new cartridge in the printer. Best of luck!

Hey , Welcome to the HP Support Forums!I understand that your HP Officejet 4355 All-in-One Printer is prompting for the right cartridge to be installed, after you inserted new cartridges in your machine. I would like to assist you today with resolving this cartridge detection error. Thank you for including the troubleshooting steps that you have attempted prior to reaching out for support. At this time there is either a dirty cartridge contact in your machine that may be blocking your printer from detecting the new cartridge as installed. There is also a chance that the new cartridge is defective. Therefore, I am going to have you perform some standard cartridge troubleshooting steps below to isolate this issue and resolve this issue.   Step 1: Remove Cartridges:  NOTE:  If the product is off when you open the print cartridge door to access the print cartridges, the product will not release the cartridges for changing. You might damage the product if the print cartridges are not docked safely on the right side when you try to remove them. 1. Make sure the product is turned on. The On button is lit when the product is on. 2. Open the print cartridge door. The print carriage moves to the far right side of the product.  3. Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on the right  print cartridge to release it. Please remove just the right (Black) cartridge. (1) Print cartridge slot for the tri-color print cartridge(2) Print cartridge slot for the black and photo print cartridges 4. Pull the print cartridge towards you out of its slot. - Source  Step 2: Check for Packaging on Cartridge: With the cartridge removed from the printer, we are now going to check the right (Black) cartridge for any remaining packaging that may be causing cartridge detection issues.  Make sure that the plastic tape is removed from the cartridge by using the pink pull tab.   (1) Copper-colored contacts(2) Plastic tape with pink pull tab (must be removed before installing)(3) Ink nozzles under tape NOTE:  Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.  Once the packaging has been confirmed as removed from the new cartridge, please proceed to the next step.  - Source   Step 3: Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Gather the Following Materials:  Dry foam rubber swabs, lint-free cloth, or any soft material that will not come apart or leave fibers. Tip: Coffee filters are lint-free and work well for cleaning print cartridges.  Distilled, filtered, or bottled water (tap water might contain contaminants that can damage the print cartridges). Caution: Do not use platen cleaners or alcohol to clean the print cartridge contacts. These can damage the print cartridge or the HP All-in-One.  Perform the Clean:  1. Inspect the print cartridge contacts for ink and debris buildup. 2. Dip a clean foam rubber swab or lint-free cloth into distilled water, and squeeze any excess water from it. 3. Hold the print cartridge by its sides. 4. Clean only the copper-colored contacts. Allow the print cartridges to dry for approximately ten minutes.   5. Leave the cartridge outside of the printer. 6. With the printer ON, disconnect the power cable from the rear of the printer 7. Examine the right cartridge slot inside of the printer. If you see debris or ink buildup please clean the cartridge slot. Allow the right slot to dry.  8. Plug the power cable back in. Your printer should start back up on its own.  Once the cartridge and slot have been cleaned, please proceed to the next step.  - Source   Step 4: Install Cartridge:  1. Slide the print cartridge forward into the empty slot. Then gently push on the upper part of the print cartridge forward until it clicks into the socket.  2. Close the print cartridge door.   Once your cartridge has been installed, please test printing to confirm that the cartridge detection issue has been resolved. Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you. Good luck!

My iPad won't accept new bookmarks in safari.

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the iPad shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the iPad back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.

  • IPod Nano won't accept new songs

When I try to add new songs to my iPod Nano in iTunes it LOOKS like they get added. I can see them on the iPod, both at the top-level and in whatever playlist I put them in, and I can even PLAY them from the iPod in iTunes.
But once I disconnect the iPod from the PC they're gone from the iPod - they're not in Songs or in any playlist. The only sign that I did anything is that Info shows the amount free space decremented by the size of the songs. So they're taking up space on the iPod but they're not visible.
If I reconnect the iPod to iTunes it doesn't show them either (and it fixes the available space discrepancy, too).
FWIW I currently have 291MB of free space, and 314 songs on my 2GB iPod Nano, PC is Win XP.
    Thanks in advance!

    > I'm sorry that there doesnt seem to be a better
solution unless the post above applies :)
Reloading the the songs seems like reloading the whole OS on a PC just because one DLL or Registry entry is bad or replacing a car engine because of a blown head gasket.
Right now I have an Ipod with lots of songs on it that plays just fine. It just won't accept new songs. What if I dump everything to my PC, blow-everything-away, and try to reload it and it won't load ANY SONGS? I'm 4000 miles from home, so then I'm really stuck, with no tunes! From an engineering standpoint this approach just doesn't make sense to me. This is my first Apple product - are they all like this (i.e., if something acts up start over from scratch)?
When I have my iPod connectd to my PC I can see all kinds of system files in iPod_Control\Device. Aren't there any diagnostics we can run on those to simply solve the problem?

  • 5520 New black cartridge won't print

Just installed a new HP 564xl black cartridge in my 5520 and it will not print anything in black? Shows that it has a full black cartridge? I've run diagnostics and cleaned and alignged and still nothing in black, only color?

Hi - A couple of things you can try.  First, follow the steps in this document - at least solution 3 since you've already replaced the cartridge.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, try following the steps, beginning with solution 3 in this document, which will walk you through resetting the printer and cleaning the contacts - even though it is a new cartridge.
    Hope that helps.

  • HP B210 all-in-one Photosmart Plus won't print black when new black cartridge installed!!

Ugh!! This printer is driving us insane! EVERY time we install a new black ink cartridge (HP 564) the printer decides it doesn't want to print black any more! I've tried the whole cleaning this and that they say is needed. I've aligned, reset, etc. and nothing works. What makes me mad is the printer works fine until the day we swap out the black ink. I've had this issue before but it was random luck it came back to life and we have no idea how it happened.  What can we do to fix this ANNOYI NG problem?? Thanks in advance.

  • New black cartridge is not printing

I inserted new yellow and black cartridges yesterday. The yellow works but the black is not printing. I took it back to the store, got a new one, and it is still not printing.

I would suggest you Contact HP as described in the post here, even if your printer is no longer under warranty.

  • Black does not print after installation of new HP cartridge

When printing black text the ink stopped. I exchanged the old cartridge with a new one of the same type, 364. The printer thanked for installing an original cartridge and according to the system the black cartridge is full. But black ink is not coming. I cleaned the print heads and printed a Quality diagnostic sheet. The black box is empty and the text is brown. Only the line "ALIGN PRINTER if lines are crooked" looks black.
I looked at the cartridge and all seems to be ok, tapes removed and the opening looks moist.
Any idea what I should try next?

    Hi reza1 & superma,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are running into some print quality issues on your HP Photosmart 5520, you are unable to print in black ink,
I would like you to complete ALL steps listed here: Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages, I understand you may have done some of these steps already but I need you to complete all steps in order to resolve the missing black issue you are experiencing.
Please note: There are three printhead cleaning stages. Complete all three stages if necessary. If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes after the last (third) cleaning stage to start the first stage of the cleaning process over again.
If you are still unable to print in black ink, I suspect the issue may be the printer and not the cartridge. Please let me know which Country/Region you are in as well as the product Warranty status: HP Warranty Checker
I hope to hear from you soon.

  • New black cartridge doesn't work. I get no error messages, it simply does not print in black.

As stated above, the printer simply doesn't print in black.  It's a new cartridge.  Not my first rodeo, I've replaced that cartridge several times, so I know how to do it.  I get no error messages.  When checking the ink level, it registers as full.    What's up with that?

Hi, for the OJ 6500 try the steps in the link below...
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c01641815
Failing that, if the printer is out of warranty one thing that might be worth a shot is soaking the printhead...
    1) Get a pan and put 1/2" of very hot (not boiling) water in the bottom.
    2) Next remove all the ink cartridges, then remove the printhead assembly.
    3) Gently put the printhead nozzles down in the water and let it soak for five minutes.
    4) Remove the printhead and gently dry the electrical contacts.
    5) Put the printhead back in the printer and then reinstall the ink cartridges.

  • Photosmart C7280 All-In-One won't recognize new black ink cartridge

Black ink was very close to running out, purchased a new one and replaced it. Now whenever I try and print something I get a popup that says: "Install new black ink cartridge if available. To continue with other colors, press Continue. Black color will be simulated. Text and photo quality will differ from those printed when using all cartridges. If empty ink cartridge is not replaced soon, all printing will stop. To cancel, press the Cancel button on printer."
I've tried turning it off and back on, taking all the cartridges out and putting them back in, etc. I printed a test page and black prints just fine, but whenever I try to print from Ctrl+P I get that error. How do I solve this problem?

Thank you for your updated information.
Since you are able to print from you computer and the printer isn't indicating this message, then I would recommend uninstalling the software. I will provide a HP document here to help you. (If this printer is connected by a USB cable, then please remove it from the computer.)
Next, please clean your Temp folder on your computer. I will provide a document on performing this step here.
Now, install the full feature software from the HP website here. Make sure you choose your correct operating system; Either 32 bit or 64 bit. I will also provide a HP document on Installing the Printer software; Either USB or Wireless Connection.
This should remove this error message you are receiving. Please let me know if you are still receiving the same message.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

  • Officejet Pro 8610 won't accept new ink levels

I love my new printer but of course, I have run into problems.  Once I was warned about ink levels in some of my cartridges getting low, I went online and purchased brand new HP brand replacements.  The printer report confirms they are HP despite getting some sceptisicm from a tech agent about the authemticity of the ink since I didn't purchases directly from HP.
In any case, I know how to replace the ink cartridges and have done so for the 2 colours needing  the change - cyana and black.  Now, the printer does not recognises that it has new full cartidges.  The printer keeps warning me that the cyan and black are critically low.  Eventually, I expect it will stop printing full stop.
This is annoying.  It seems like some kind of sensor issue and the printer is not getting the signal.
I have shut down the computer and printer altogther and rebooted both, no luck.
I have done another alignment and then shut off and on again (both computer and printer).
Nothing seems to work.  Please help and don't tell me I need to buy new ink cartirdges again.  They clearly WORK as I can print with them but the pronter WILL NOT RECOGNISE the new full ink levels.  I need to know the levels in order to know when to purchase more ink in time for the next dry out.

    Hey @CanadaMona,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you with resolving the cartridge detection issues that you're experiencing on your HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer. I understand that you have already replaced the black and cyan cartridges to no avail. This issue does sound like it may be a printhead issue. The printhead is what reads your cartridges and controls the ink for going on the paper. If the printhead is defective it can cause issues with detecting cartridges. I'm going to run you through some troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue.
    Step 1: Check the Printhead:
    1. Place your fingers into the slot on the left side of the printer, and then pull to open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the left side of the printer. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before you proceed.
1 - Slot for opening the cartridge access door
    2.  To the right of your black cartridge you will see the grey printhead latch. Please lift that latch.
    3. Grasp the sides of the printhead, and then lift the printhead and pull it toward you to remove it. Please leave the cartridges in the printhead while you remove it.
    4. With the printhead removed, close the cartridge access door.
    5. Power off the printer.
    6. Power the printer back on. Once the printer comes on it will give you an error indicating that the 'printhead is missing' or that the 'cartridges are missing or damaged'. At this point, open the cartridge access door.
    7. Reinstall the printhead.
    8. Ensure that you snap the printhead latch back down to lock the mechanism in place.
    9. Close the cartridge access door.
Is the low ink message still displaying on the front panel of the printer?
If so, please proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Clean the cartridge contacts:
Find a clean, lint-free cloth (eyeglass wipes or coffee filters work well) that you can use to clean the cartridge contacts.
Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
Place your fingers into the slot on the left side of the printer, and then pull to open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the left side of the printer. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before you proceed.
     Open the cartridge access door
1 - Slot for opening the cartridge access door
Push in on the front of the problem cartridge to release it, and then pull the cartridge toward you to remove it from its slot.
Remove the problem cartridge from its slot
With a clean, lint-free cloth (eyeglass wipes or coffee filters work well), wipe the copper-colored contact on the cartridge.
     Copper-colored contact on the cartridge
Carefully reinsert the cartridge into its slot, and then push the cartridge forward until it clicks into place.
NOTE: Make sure that the colored dot on the cartridge label matches the colored dot on the carriage slot.
Insert the cartridge into its color-coded slot
Repeat these steps for the other cartridges, if necessary.
    Close the cartridge access door.
    Close the cartridge access door
Please let me know if the steps I've provided resolve your issue. Good luck!
