Printer won't work with Ethernet cable connected to AEBS

I've been using my AEBS with built-in modem for a year with no problems. Today I got a DSL modem (finally available in my area) and when I connected the ethernet cable from the DSL modem to my AEBS, my printer stopped working. It now gives the following error message: "Printing Problem - the process "mdns" stopped unexpectedly with status 1". The printer is still available from the printer setup utility and I tried deleting and reinstalling the printer
I have tried several different variations of restarting the modem and AE in various orders, but no joy. However, when I disconnect the ethernet cable from the AE and restart it, I can print fine.
I have three computers on the network (G4 MDD PowerMac, G5 iMac, and C2D MPB) and I get the same error message from all three.
Any suggestions (perhaps an interpretive dance to the network gods?) on how to get both the DSL and printer to play nice at the same time??
Thanks, Eric

  • My TC won't startup with ethernet cables connected.

It will start up fine w/out ethernet cables, but with ethernet, it won't startup.  I have two wired connections, my thunderbolt display/mbp and my cannon printer.
It will sit with amber light solid.
When I disconnect the two ethernet cables, it will startup fine.  Then I connect the two cables and everything is good.
This is a new from apple store today 2tb TC.  It's taken about 2 hours to get it setup until now I've figured out the ethernet cable issue.  Is there a fix?  I'm probably going to exchange it tomorrow or in the next couple of days if there's no fix provided.

Well, it's working fine today.  I'll continue to try it over the next couple of days and if it happens more, I'll take it back for an exchange.  It happend quite a few times last night.
I have apple care for my mbp, so this should be covered on it.  About 1.5 years left.
    Thanks.
I'll update this post if I end up needing to exchange it.

  • AE Works with Ethernet Cable, but not Wirelessly. Please Help!!

I purchased the AE to run music streams via Airtunes from my wireless router/PC upstairs to my stereo downstairs. When I hook everything up upstairs with the ethernet cable, everything works like a charm, but the moment I remove the ethernet cable, the AE is not being picked up by the network. I set everything up for the wireless network (while the ethernet cable was hooked up) and have a green light on the AE, but when I try to use it wirelessly, it is blinking amber and not appearing within AirPort Utlity (only when hooked up with ethernet). I have a Westell 327W Wireless Modem/Router and could use some advice as to what I am doing wrong to get some tunes downstairs.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi:
I was chasing this very topic for a long while, then took a break.
You are suppose to be able to stream music from your PC to external stereo speakers via iTunes, thru an Airport Express (AE) wirelees connection.
    Here's my status:
It is pretty easy to get a wireless connection up & running so that you can play music from your laptop/pc to external wirelss speakers via iTunes, thru AE.
I have that up & running. The problem comes in when trying to add the Airport Express to an already existing Linksys router's wireless network. When setting
the AE up, you'll most likely get 4 error messages that have to be addressed before you go from from a flashing amber LED to a solid green LED. If you are just using Apple's ad-hoc wireless conncetion, you'll need to use Airport Utility to address the 4 issues. Basically, Airport Utility doesn't know how to address AE, since it doesn't have any IP address to a network. The other 3 are simlar problems. If you just tell Aiport Utility to ignore each of these problems, you will get the solid green LED on AE, and you'll be able to stream music directly from your PC to your speakers, wirelessly, once you finish the AE configuartion, and Airport Utility reconfigures the AE.
I have my HP laptop and printer setup with a Linksys 54G Router and Printserver,
so that the laptop and printer communicate wirelssly via the Linksys Router.
Now comes the fun...trying to add the AE to this already existing wireless network. I could get the AE to work when I had an Ethernet cable connected directly from a port on the router to the AE, but when I disconnected the Ethernet cable, the router no longer saw the AE in the network. I followed all of the instructions in the Airport Utility software, went seeking advice on this
newsgroup, the web, etc. Found lots of good information, but a lot of it was outdated.
I have my Linksys wirless network setup with WEP-64 encryption.
From what I have gathered, it is much easeir to add the AE to a WPA/WPA2 network, than to a WEP64/128 network, just because of newer protocols.
The problem that I have is that WPA encryption works much slower for me than
WEP encryption. Example: iTunes is roughly 60 MB is size. Downloading it
using WPA, results is a download time of 22-23 minutes; where a download
    using WEP-64 takes 75-80 seconds !
In the past, what I was trying to do was add the AE to my already existing
wireless network. Now, I have a wireless network for the AE. I want to try to add this network to my already existing wireless netowrk for the Linksys router.
I just haven't taken the time to try it yet. From what Apple tells me, Linksys makes this setup messy. The fact that the AE works by itself proves that the
    device is OK.
For a history of the problems that I have been chasing in trying to get the AE setup and added to my already existing Linksys router network, visit the following link in the list of "problems" on this Apple newsgroup's web page.
Search for the folowing topic title:
Problems Setting-up Airport Express to Play Music thru External Speakers
Currently, is is at the bottom of page 12 of this discusssion group.
The info in it may be useful to you.
Please let me know if you get yours up & running in the Linksys wireless
    network.
    Thank you

  • Printer won't work with Mavericks

Since downloading Mavericks, my HP printer won't work--at the office AND at home.  Please help.
I've done everything I think was suggested from removing HP software, reseting printing, factory default of printer--everything!
    Please help!

I guess from reading your message that Mavericks just hasn't got the drivers from HP to support this.  You don't specify what model printer you are using but I would suggest that this issue here is that either your PH printer is an old model or that you need to go looking towards the HP website and see what their responses are to providing the appropriate drivers.  You're not alone sadly and this is the problem when you move forward with the times and the ancilliary equipment you have come to rely on is no longer up to speed.  Good luck!

kodak printer will not work with Yosemite. It was fine before. Anyone have the same problem with a Kodak printer. Weirdly I can scan a document but not print anything at all. It says printing but nothing comes out!

  • HP Printer Won't Work With Snow Leopard

Hi, I hope you can help. I have just upgraded to Snow Leopard and my HP printer won't print. It is a Laserjet 1015 and new drivers are meant to be on the list with SN. My iMac recognises the printer is there but cannot make a connection. I am networking it using an Airport which is working fine. I have even reset the printer system and deleted the printer and added it again but after starting to process a document to print it just stops.
The other thing is that Pages v 1.0.2 also won't work now. I can open the software, but it can't open any existing documents nor will it open a new blank template. This is my work software (I'm a journalist) so this is a real worry. Any suggestions??
    Thanks so much
    Jo

    Hi JoJoh,
I can't be of much help with the printer but I just checked my "Pages" and my version number is 4.0.2. I'm using iWork 09. Perhaps you need to update? I just checked the "Snow Leopard Compatible" site and found "Apple Pages 4.0.2" is compatible. It didn't mention 1.0.2. I'm so sorry. That's pretty rough when it's how you make your living.
As for the printer, I have an HP Photosmart C4580 which wouldn't print. I finally just deleted all the printers on my MacBook and used my Snow Leopard install disk and selected the "Optional Install" which allowed me to just reinstall the printers. My HP is now working fine. I do feel like this is just a work-around until HP gets things sorted out. I say that because even though my HP now works, the only place it shows up is in my users folder. It's not in my Applications folder, but as long as it works for now, I don't care.
Hope I was of some help to you. Best of luck!

  • Wi-fi only works with Ethernet cable

    Hey guys!
I'm using a MacBook Pro 15" 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, with Lion. My wi-fi works fine at home and several other wi-fi spots, but at work it seems that it can only access the internet with an Ethernet cable plugged in. Immediately after I unplug the ethernet cord, the wi-fi bars turn grey with a exclamation mark on top of it, displaying that there's no internet connection. I'm pretty sure it has something do to with IP address recognition or something like that, I just can't fix it!
The wi-fi at work works perfectly for everybody else, both mac and PC users. Help?
    Cheers,

check which wifi router they are using. I had a linksys with that issue, and the firmware was old. It would connect, but no internet.
    also
try setting up your tcp/ip with manually adding a ip address, similar to an address that works on other devices.
if u check you automatic dhcp ip and it starts with 169 then u know that its Class B (APIPA) address. This range is use in Zero Configuration Network and wont have internet. try to fix it manually.

  • Printer won't work with either computer on the wireless network

Yesterday I went to the HP website and downloaded the rcommended drivers associated with my Win 7 computer and Officejet 7310 printer.  Ever since I can't print at all.  My other laptop connected to the network (Win Vista) won't print either.  My computer indicates that my printer is offline.  How do I get these devices talking to one another again
    This question was solved.

Download and run this diagnostic, it should tell us what is going on.
The IP address looks right for the printer.  The DNS server and gateway (router IP address) are often the same at x.x.x.1
I suspect a firewall issue, but let's see what the diagnostic tells us.

  • Canon MF4207 MultiFunction Laser Printer won't work with TCP/IP

Bought this printer. Very cool. Great quality. Fast...
But, we can't even get a "ping" via TCP/IP. We're about to take it back. Looking at other threads, do Canon's not work with Mac's on networks (even though their documentation says they do)?
    Anyone with ideas?
Running both from a ether wired imac and a wireless powerbook. All on 10.4.?.
    Thanks
    Doug

First of all, Canon's designed for network printing do work. Most of the posts you have probably seen are for printers that haven't been designed for network printing, yet the users are still trying to configure them this way???
Looking at the manual, there a couple of things you need to do to print across a network.
As Kappy suggested, the first thing you need to do is configure the IP address of the MF4270. By default, the machine is set to DHCP, but if you don't have something on your network allocating addresses, then it will be set to all zero's.
Now you mention it won't ping, so we could make the assumption that you have set an appropriate IP address for your network and the machine is not responding. To be sure that you do have this set to the same subnet as your Mac network, print a User Data List.
    Additional Functions > 11. Report Settings > OK > 2. List Print > 9. User Data List > OK
This will show you the IP address and subnet mask. It will also show you if LPD and RAW (Port 9100) print services have been enabled.
If you do not have an appropriate IP address set, then you need to press Additional Functions and scroll to 12. System Settings.
Press OK and scroll to 2. Network Settings then press OK.
This will show TCP/IP Settings. Press OK.
Scroll to 1. IP Address Auto and press OK. It will show ON. Scroll so it shows OFF and then press OK.
Now scroll to 2. IP Address and press OK. This will show the current address. Using the numeric keypad enter the desired IP address for the printer. Press OK to complete.
Now scroll to 3. Subnet Mask and input the appropriate subnet mask and press OK.
Now you can press the Stop/Reset key to exit and maybe print another User Data list to ensure the settings you entered are correct.
Now that you have the IP address set, you need to install the Canon UFR2 v1.60 driver for Mac OS X. If this version didn't come with the machine you can download it from the Canon web site.
Once you have run this driver installer you are ready to add the printer. Open the Printer Setup Utility and select Add. Select More Printers. Now select 'Canon IP (UFR II)'. This will show a pane allowing you to enter the IP address of the printer. It also wants a queue name. Enter LP for the queue name. Click Add and wait as the driver software will now query the printer and auto select the appropriate ppd. Once this is complete the MF4270 will appear in the Printer List.

  • My HP Photosmart 385 printer won't work with my operating system - Windows Vista Ultimate. Why not?

Is there a driver that I can dowload so my HP Photosmart 385 printer will work with my Windows Vista Ultimate operating system?

    Hey Alyssa426,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
Since the installation disk does not support Windows 8.1, I would suggest trying to download, and install the drivers directly from the HP Support website. I have included a link to the 'HP Deskjet F4200/F4224 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Driver'. Once the software is downloaded, open the software, and follow through the on screen instructions for installation.
Please let me know the outcome of installing the software.
    Thank you.

  • Printer won't work with Snow Leopard

    Hello,
I have been using a Lexmark colour printer with my iMac. I upgraded to Snow Leopard and since then my printer does not work. Does anyone have a solution to this as I don't really want to buy another printer, especially as I have bought a new stock or print cartridges for the printer.
Many thanks to anyone who can help.
    Kind regard, Maggi

    Hello Maggi:
This is a list of OS X supported printer drivers:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#lexmark
Since you did not indicate your specific printer model, I cannot make further suggestions.
If your printer is not listed, some people have had success with generic Gutenberg drivers.

I recently installed an Airport Extreme 802.11N that I bought in May 2013. It replaced an Airport Extreme 802.11N that I bought in July 2007. My USB printer (Lexmark E350d) worked fine with the old Airport, but I'm having trouble with the new one. When I try to print, I get a USB Waiting message on the printer, and when I force a page to print by pressing Go on the printer, I get a page that says ERROR: syntaxerror OFFENDING COMMAND: true.  . . .cvt . . . fpgm . . . x . . .lglyf . . . <..J head . . .     STACK: / [    -mark-   /sfnts I’ve tried shutting down the printer and disconnecting it and the Airport, but that doesn’t help. I reset the settings on the printer. I upgraded the Airport firmware and removed, reinstalled, and upgraded the Lexmark printer driver. After I upgraded the firmware and printer driver, a few pages printed correctly, but then I got the same syntax error page as before. Any suggestions for getting the printer to work correctly?

Use a powered USB hub between the AE and the printer.. the usb port does sometimes have issues.
Try deleting the printer in the Mac and reinstall it.. the change in AE can represent effectively a change of printer.. it is important to make sure that is all up to date.
Beyond that.. USB printers.. ughhh! Consider for two toners you can go and buy a proper network printer.

  • XBR55X850B remote won't work with Xfinity cable box.

The channels are listed in the cable guide tab (pictures of the listing too), but when I select the channel nothing happens.  Tried the IR blaster cable, still the same.  Xfinity cable box model # XG1-A.  Please help.

Does your cable box work when using the remote that came with the cable box? If it does not you have a problem with the box. If it does you might need to reposition the IR blaster making sure it is slightly infront of the box or run the setup on the TV again where you put in your zip code and the cable company you use.

  • Video playback from albums won't work when AV cable connected

I have created an Album on my iPhone 3G that has stills & video content. Previewing & playback on my phone works fine. However, when I playback the album hooked up with an Apple Composite AV cable, everything plays fine until it gets to the video where it just gives a black screen with the audio only playing. If I play the individual clip from iTunes on my phone, it plays back perfectly over the AV cable. Has anyone had any success playing back video in an Album over an Apple AV cable? Is it because I'm using an older model phone? Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure it is not plugged into an Ethernet port on the back by mistake? That would present a 150 ohm short circuit. The sockets are very similar, and some Ethernet sockets will take a phone cable as well.
I am surprised that a Freesat box needs a phone line, unless its for some form of remote control.

  • Airport extreme won't work with Optimum cable

Bresnan Cable just switched to Optimum.  My internet no longer works using Airport Extreme.  Cable is working as is wireless.  Optimum support says it has something to do with external versus internal IP addresses and weather my Airport Extreme was configured as a switch or router?

I have a toshiba laptop and it works prefectly with a conceptronic usb card. But you must set up the Base Station only with the default options. I mean that you can not hide the SSID, or make an access control with Airport Extreme. You only set up the default options and it works perfectly. When I try to place an access control or hide the network then it doesn´t work and wait an ip as you say in your post.
If you want to connect from Windows to the Base Station you need to close your firewall and no other cable into the Airport Extreme, only the cable that you are connecting to access the Base Station. And it will work.
