Printer wont connect when wep password enabled

Hi. I've had a HP Deskjet 5850 for many years. It worked perfectly with my D-Link wifi router, it connected wirelessly with no issues. I recently bought an airport extreme, I've reset everything on the printer and it works via ethernet, but it only works via wifi when airport is set for wireless security is set to none. If I assign a password of any sort it won't connect.
In the printer's admin webpage I've set and reset it for a wep password and it wont connect. Does anyone know if this printer is compatible with airports wep password protection?
Thanks!

I created a WEP password, this is what the printer supports. However, even my MacBook had issues logging in with WEP, it would get bumped off the network and then could only log into the my airport extreme's wireless network after a restart... and then it would get bumped off again. So I switched the airport to WPA/WPA2 password and the macbook works fine now, and the connection is faster than it was with a WEP password. Does the AirPort have known issues with WEP?
Thanks!

  • "Incompatible Security" when trying to connect with WEP password

I just bought my MacBook and so far AirPort has been working with all wireless connections I've used. I recently moved into a new apartment with wireless internet. The gals here are using a Motorola router connected to a Windows XP desktop.
Why is it that everytime I connect using the correct WEP password/configuration, it says "Incompatible Security"? I've tried everything with network preferences and the like. Why is it that the Macbook won't connect to this wireless router but will connect to others...?

Hello likelaurapalmer. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling the use of simple easy to remember WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys. The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a non-Apple client and vice versa.

  • Help! Getting "Connection error Check connection" when trying to enable HP Web Services on M1536DNF

Can anyone tell me what I need to do in order to enable HP Web Services on HP LaserJet Pro M1536DNF model?  Everything works fine and shows it's connected to the network but I cannot enable HP Web Services.  It says "Connection error Check connection" I've tried restarting everything; network, printer, computer.  I've also updated firmware to latest version as well.

    Hi snapry,
Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I understand that you are getting an unable to connect message when trying to enable the web services for your Laserjet CP1025nw printer.
Please set a manual IP address and manual DNS servers for the printer.  The instructions can be found in the document Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection. There is a Windows section and a Mac section.  In the Windows section you will find the instructions in the sub-section titled “Solution three: Assign the printer a static IP address”. For Mac the applicable sub-section is titled “Solution two: Assign the printer a static IP address”.  When entering the information for the Manual Preferred DNS server please use 8.8.8.8 and for the Alternate Preferred DNS server please use 8.8.4.4.  These are Google’s DNS servers.
After setting the manual IP address and manual DNS servers, you should have no problems enabling the web services.

  • Printer wont connect to computer properly

Have recently purchased HP Envy 4507 is connected to the network but will not print all trhe time. will print one day and then decides not to the next. what can we do to prevent this?
    thanks

    Hi @gemmawestlake
Do you have the printer connected directly to a wall outlet or is it in a surge protector or power bar? Even if you have been using a surge protector/power bar all this time and you feel it is not the cause, please connect it to a wall outlet just so we can eliminate the power source as the root cause.   Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector
In this document you will see, ISSUE: Problems or issues may arise when an HP LaserJet series printer is connected to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), a power strip, or a surge protector
^ This is not limited to Laserjet printers.
Also, choose the appropriate link below to ensure the printer has the latest firmware update.
Choose this link if you have a 32bit operating system: HPCOM_HP_ENVY_4500_series_x86_000_003.exe
Choose this link if you have a 64bit operating system: HPCOM_HP_ENVY_4500_series_x64_000_003.exe
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
This Firmware update improves and fixes the following issues:
    Enabled Scheduled Delivery/Printables
Improves Connectivity reliability of your device
    Fixes miscellaneous minor defects
    I hope this helps.

  • Wireless printer wont connect to samsung tab

    Hi,
Just downloaded the all in one app for a samsung galaxy tab3. The printer is a officejet 6500. Ive connected the printer to wifi but the tab wont connect to the printer. It showsnits found it, but says unavailable. Any ideas? Thanks

    Hi,
What is the exact printer model?
If it is the HP Officejet 6500 (e709) printer, I afraid it only support printing via the HP ePrint app, the printer is not supported for the HP All-In-One Remote app:

  • HP printer asks for my WEP password...

for wireless set and I put it in and it fails. It has to be the correct password because the Mac asked for it to configure the printer and it took it but the "wireless wizard" rejects it. Any way I can find out for sure what the WEP password is for my Airport?

i think it has got a pending download that is needed some apple id or password that is perhaps not the apple id you are signed in on.  go to the app store and see if there is something in limbo.
also check settings, store, and make sure your apple id is there.
Altenately, there may be some app trying to do something, but needs you to 'log in' to complete it's taks.
check the app store first to see if it is there.  then check your apple id in settings store.  Then fully close everything you can by double tapping the home key to see the task bar, touch and hold any of those icons until they jiggle, the close them all off by touching the minus sign.
lastly, if it has not stopped yet, turn off any mail accounts.
If it goes away, start turning stuff back on ntil you find the culprit.

    Introduction
The router that started it all, the WRT54G. In 2003, Columbia Law School Professor Eben Moglen sued Linksys to get them to release their Linux source code. They released it without a fight and continue release their source code to the public. It didn't take long to realize what could be done with the source. The OpenWRT group and Sveasoft were among the first to release updates for the WRT54G. The popularity of the WRT54G boomed. Linux and Router gurus soon took notice of the WRT54G. Today, WRT54Gs are used worldwide, many running third-party firmware. Shortly after Linksys released the first version of the WRT54G, they were bought by Cisco. Since then, many versions of the WRT54G have followed. In late 2005, Linksys switched the WRT54G to a non-Linux based operating system. This upset many in the community. Luckily, Linksys released the WRT54GL just for those who like to upgrade their routers.

  • Printer wont show when usb is connected

The printer isnt showing at all...its a lexmark p43500. I connect the usb, and nothing shows up..please help

Do you mean that when you go to Add the printer, it is not being displayed in the Default Browser view of the Printer Browser window? If this is the case, try opening System Profiler and select Hardware then USB. Does the printer show under one of the USB Bus entries?

  • HPC8180 Printer wont connect to wireless network, after firmware upgrade to Wireless Router

My HPC8180 has been connecting wirelessly since I bought it sometime ago.  I recently had to upgrade the firmware on my Netcom NB9W wireless router and since then my HP wont resolve to the wireless network.
I run the Wireless Network wizzard on the printer, select the correct SSID and enter the WEP key as per instructions.
    It then will not connect.
The summary I print out says it passes everything except:
    No Filtering = Fail
    Connected = Not Run
Signal Strength = Very Low (which is strange because it's about 10ft from Wireless Router).
Other networks detected matching your network name (SSID) = No
    Summary says:
    Network Name (SSID) altnet (correct)
    IP Address = Not applicable
    Configuration Source = Not applicable
    Communication Mode = Infrastructure
    Authentication Type = Open System
    Encryption = 64-bit WEP
I have NOT turned on mac address filtering
    Any ideas??

Your router appears to be a DSL modem router.  Those can be tricky to connect to.  Also, WEP can be problematic and is no longer a good security measure.  WEP can be broken in about 10 minutes with freeware from the internet.
    Let's do three things:
    1. Change to WPA or WPA2 encryption.  You can make up your own password.  Make it 13 or more characters, numbers and letters, upper and lower case.
    2. Reset the Network Defaults in your printer (Setup > Network area).
    3. Attach to the router in this way:
Sometimes DSL providers have more control over the router than the printer likes.
    - Unplug the telephone line from the router
    - Turn the power off on the router, wait 30 seconds, then turn the power back on.
    - Go through the normal process of connecting the printer to the device (Wireless Setup WIzard)
    - Now find the IP address of the printer (it should be on the self-test printout), type it into a browser.
    - On that screen you will find a Networking Tab, then on the left Wireless, then the IPv4 Tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you know what that is, set an IP outside that range but no higher than 254 (the last number in the address).
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Leave the gateway and DNS blank
    - Finally, plug in the phone line, reboot the router and test.

  • Envy printer wont connect to internet

I bought an HP printer 7640.  I am trying to get it set up.  The Network Configuration page includes the following information:1) Network Status - Ready;2) Active Connection Type - Wireless;3) Internet - Not Connected.   The printer "discovered" my 802.11 network, and I entered the password. The little blue light on the front of the printer is solid (always on, not flashing). I cannot get a Claim page printed out because after I 1) touch ePrint,2) then Accept, it goes into checking for printer updates, then tells me I'm not connected to the internet.

    1. Turn off router for 30 seconds and on again
    2. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

  • Broken connection when applying password

    Hi,
My 2 roommates and I share the network I set up with the Airport Express. When I put a password on the network, however, my roommates have connection problems. One has trouble connecting at all, and the other keeps getting disconnected, even though they have entered the password correctly. I do not have any problems with either my home computer (iBook G4) or the computer I use to work at home (Dell Latitude D630), so I was wondering what the possible cause might be. I don't believe anything is wrong with the Airport itself as both of my computers are operating just fine on the network - are there settings on their computers that they need to change?
    Thank you!

    Hi Duane,
Thank you for your fast response. The two computers having trouble are Gateway and Averitech. Both are running Windows XP.
I'm not sure if this answers your question, but Airport shows my security setting as 802.11 b/g Compatible. Is that what you need? I'll be happy to provide further info if necessary. Thanks for your help.

  • Unable to connect when 3G is enabled....

I've just noticed a problem with my 3G iPhone, since yesterday the phone refuses to connect to a 3G network, it just says 'no service'. The only way I can use the phone is by disabling the 3G, then it connects to 2G/Edge fine. Wireless works fine whether 3G is enabled or not.
I've removed the sim card and also completely hard restored the phone but nothing works. I've also used the sim card in a Sony Ericsson 3G phone and it works perfectly on the 3G network.
Has anyone noticed this problem at all?
    Many thanks,
    Dave

Yeah but the thing is I tried the sim card in another phone (a SE K800i) and 3G worked fine.
I'm on o2, England by the way.
I've just spent 4 weeks in California and had the 3G turned off for the whole time (to save battery life as I knew I would not be using data), 3G worked fine before travelling to the US.
This is very strange, I think the 3G radio chip has died, it's going back to Apple later today so I'll report back.
