Printers for Mac OS X 10.6.7

I need a 4-in-one printer.  Which one is compatible with snow leopard?

I just got the HP M1536dnf ethernet attached printer/scanner/fax laser printer with AirPrint support (I did have to Flash the printer's ROM to get the AirPrint support, but that was not very hard).
I can print, I can scan, I can FAX over the network.  After flashing the ROM, I can print directly from my iPod Touch.  And I can FAX directly from the printer front panel, as well as use it as a copier.
It is ONLY a Black & White (grayscale) laser printer.

  • Compatible printers for Mac mini (Mac's)

Where can I find a list of compatible printers for Mac. My current Windows printer is a Canon LBP-1120 and cannot use it with my Mac mini. So its probably time to get another printer for my Macs.

I should add that there are a number of printers that are compatible and that don't necessarily appear to be so as a result of third-party drivers. This includes, if I'm not mistaken, some Canon models which can be plugged in and selected in Printer setup.
Others, such as at least some Epson, HP and Lexmark models, are supplied with Windows and MacOS drivers (you need to make sure they're for the right version of MacOS) or the box will be labelled such that it indicates PC/Mac compatibility.
You might take a quick look at the printers offered through the online Apple store (under Mac accessories) to get an idea of which makes to look at. This will only tell you about current models of course, but should at least prove a reliable starting point.

  • Suggested inkjet printers for mac book air 2012

what is a good inkjet home printer for a macbook air 2012?

I've been strongly recommending Canon inkjet printers for a long time. They have separate cartridges for each color so there's minimal waste of ink. They don't get clogged if you don't use them for a while (I'm looking at you Epson). I've dealt with their customer support before via email and it has been very good and fast.

  • Recommended printers for mac

We are looking for recommendations for the best printers that play very well with a Mac. We have had Canon printers but the printer interface using the Mac is not as easy to use or as comprehensive as the Windows interface.

I have a Brother model DCP-7065dn "black and white only" laser printer, copier, scanner because I not need the hassles with color inks in a color ink-jet printer.  It has it's quirks but it does what I need it to do.  It gives me the print quality I want, easy scanning of stuff to my hard drive, double sided printing(albeit, for copying, having to manually feed two one-sided documents to make one two-sided copy) and the ability to do envelopes when I need to do them(albeit having to feed the envelopes one at time).  On a rating of 5 stars, I'd probably give it a 3.

    Hello,
It isn't the fw in Network you want o use or look at, that's for something completely different.
My first suspect is the Power Adapter on the LaCie has gone.
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware>Firewire, what is listed there?
    Reset the Firewire bus
If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device.  A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:
    1. Shut the machine down.
    2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive or devices.
    3. leave it for 10 minutes.
    4. Connect back up and reboot.

  • Bonjour for Mac Not Recognizing Printers

I am using a NETGEAR router and a NETGEAR Wireless Extender. I have repeatedly tried to set up two printers wirelessly. Bonjour seems to work very sporadically. It will recognize the printers for a while, then after about an hour or so, they are not listed under Bonjour. Very frustrating, and I'd appreciate any help.

Is it just an extender, or is it a full router?
One way to tell is if it has the ability to provide DHCP services, such as assigning IP addresses.  If it has a configuration option for setting up DHCP, then it is capable of being a router.  If it is in Router mode it will block Bonjour traffic between devices talking to the other Router and those talking to this router.
You want just one active router in your home, and that one active router is responsible for DHCP services.
Another way, would be to make sure you are talking to the extender, and then using the Bonjour Browser.  If you can see items that are connected to the other Netgear device, then the extender is not blocking Bonjour traffic, and if it is not blocking Bonjour traffic, it cannot be in Router mode.
If you Option-Click on the WiFi icon on your Mac menu bar, you will see the BSSID for the WiFi device you are talking to.  Since you have 2 WiFi devices they will each have their own unique BSSID numbers.  With some experimentation, you should be able to figure out which BSSID belongs to the Netgear Router and which belongs to the extender.  That is one way to know which device you are currently talking to and then verify you are seeing Bonjour traffic from devices attached to the Netgear router.  And traffic going the other way.

  • How can I send emails to a list of email addresses using mail merge  feature in Microsoft Word for Mac? It would work with the power pc but not with macbook Air

I want to send an email and personalize it to several contacts. I could always do it with my old Power PC using Microsoft Office Word for Mac but cannot access my emailoption when I use the Macbook Air. Anyone have a solution??

No way for us to know for sure (without similar product/issues) but the
HP Support site suggests that with the current Mavericks OS X 10.9.x
their drivers should be available through Apple Software Updates:

However that may be limited to certain models of printers or scanners that
already had been known to be working under OS X as of that date in a
prior OS X (such as 10.8.5, 10.7.5, 10.6.8, etc) with earlier product support.

  • What is the best wifi printer for mac ?

i want to buy a new wifi printer / scanner / fax.
i had problems with my former one , it was HP Officejet 4500 and all of the setting was wrong for mac.
    it was a dissaster .
before i will buy a new i wanted to ask if anyone has a proposition .
    thanx

I don't have a home office - nor do I have any experience in printers the way some reviewers do. When it comes to printing, all I care is that it actually prints and doesn't jam.
Printers are so inexpensive these days and my old printer was a great Cannon that did it's job - cost about 80 bucks when I purchased. Then I bought an iPad and tried ALL the free printing apps - and even paid for an app that swore it would work with any printer. NOPE.
So, when this printer came up to test - I jumped on it! WOW. Not only is it so easy to set up, even I can do it (didn't even need the disk). It prints anywhere from my iPad and my iPhone. I also love the double sided printing and never realized how much double siding printing I actually do. It's great for long recipes. The photo aspect of it is sharp and clear. I LOVE The scanner and though I rarely use a fax - it's nice to know it's available so I don't have to drive to my local media store. For the price - it's amazing.
It's also super fast compared to my Cannon and super quiet.
I've started recommending this to my friends - even though they may not do much printing - it's amazing how much you'll start printing once you have this super hero. Kind of like my Kindle - I read way more books now than I did when reading hard/paper backs!!!.

  • Can't print wirelessly since Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 4

I have an HP Officejet J4680 All-in-One, and have been printing wirelessly from my Macintosh (OS 10.5.7) since I purchased the printer in December 2008. However, after I installed the Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 4, I suddenly lost the ability to print wirelessly. I've spent hours on my own and on the phone with HP trying to figure this out, with no success. When I uninstall and reinstall the printer, I can get to the point in the HP Setup Assistant in which the network configuration has been successfully downloaded to the printer (I see an IP address, Subnet Mask, etc.), but then I get an error message of "Device Not Reachable . . . please make sure that your Mac has access to the network and retry." My Mac does have access to the network because I can get on the internet wirelessly.
I've tried entering the IP address manually, etc.--but nothing has worked. It's as if the printer is on the network, and the computer is on the same network, but they somehow can't talk to each other. Anyone else notice this problem, and how do I solve it?? Thanks in advance for your time!

Hello Laura C. I haven't noticed any problems with my wireless connections to my Canon printers, at home or at work, and I have the Update 4 installed. I also cannot think how this update would have impacted your ability to connect to the printer, except maybe due to a reliance of the HP software using Java to operate. But this should not have stopped your existing connection from working, only a new connection...
Apologies in advance if you have already been through the following, but if you were successful in entering an IP address manually, I would then check that you can get a response from the printer. The best tool to use is Ping. Open Applications > Utilities > Network Utility. Here you will see the Ping tab, as well as several other IP tools.
Before you select Ping, select Info (it probably has defaulted to this). This pane shows you the current IP address settings for your Mac. Since you are using wireless, change the drop menu from en0 (which is Ethernet) to en1 (wireless). This will show your current IP address set in the Mac. Make a note of this.
Now select the Ping tab and enter the IP address of the HP. Change the number of pings to 4 and press the Ping button. If the addresses are correct and the network infrastructure working you should get a response. If you get something like " 4 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss", then that would explain the unreachable message.
The biggest cause of this symptom is subnetting. To explain further, an IP address consists of two parts, the subnet and network address. The subnet is determined by the subnet mask. If you have a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, the your subnet is the first three sets of numbers in your IP address and the network address is the last number. For example, an IP address of 10.0.1.10 and subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 has a subnet of 10.0.1 and a network address of 10. For devices to communicate on a local network, they typically need to have the same subnet and a different network address. Can you confirm the subnets for the Mac and printer are the same and the network addresses are different.
If you get responses to the Pings, which indicates the IP addressing is okay, the other services like firewalls can stop some printer utilities from working correctly. Have you checked your System Preferences > Security > Firewall setting is set to allow all incoming connections?

  • Has anyone managed to deploy Acrobat Pro 9.0 for Mac through ARD?

Has anyone managed to get Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0 for Mac to deploy with any level of reliability through tools such as Apple Remote Desktop?
The main CS3 apps are "better", if still kludgy to deploy somewhat silently, but every time I've tried to get Acrobat Pro 9.0 to deploy, it steadfastly refuses to do so without demanding admin access on at least the first launch, and insisting on running the Updater in the process, which is completely unacceptable.
I should say that I've looked at their Adobe Acrobat deployment site (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/solutions/it/), and it's entirely useless for the Mac version.
Why do Adobe make this so hard?

Okay, I think I've figured this out.
    * On a clean machine (ie: no Adobe software), install Adobe Acrobat Pro
    * Run Acrobat. Insert license code. Allow it to "selfheal". Quit.
    * Run Distiller. Allow it to "selfheal". Quit.
    * Edit AcroEFGPro90.plist and AcroEFGDist90.plist which can be found in Contents > MacOS within the Acrobat and Distiller apps respectively.
    * Change the "Requires" tags from "YES" to "NO" for all the file resources.
    * Copy these to plist files into /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat/ and overwrite the ones that are already there.
    * Run Acrobat and Distiller again. Allow "selfheal" if prompted. Quit.
    * Run again. Quit.
    * Build a Mac OS X installer package of the following:
    /Applications/Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0
    /Applications/Utilites/Adobe Utilities
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/
    /Library/Application Support/FLEXnet*
    /Library/Preferences/com.adobe.*
    /Library/Preferences/FLEXnet*
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin
    /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/
    /Library/Printers/PPD Plugins/Adobe*
    /Library/Printers/PPDs/.../.../.../ADPDF9.PPD (one per language)
    /Users/Shared/Adobe
    /usr/libexec/cups/backend/pdf900
    * After you've built the package, go through the Acrobat application bundle and find cupshup.pl. Copy it into the Resources folder of the installer package, and rename it to "postflight" (this gets the installer to configure the PDF printer).
    * Distribute through ARD.
    * Grab com.adobe.* from ~/Library/Preferences
    * Distribute the com.adobe.* files to all users; the .plist files can be done through Workgroup Manager, however com.adobe.118.registration must be copied as-is into the user folder, rather than being injected via MCX or the defaults command or any other method, as it's not a plist.
    Dear Adobe,
    MAKE THIS SIMPLER.

    etc...

  • Printer wireless for Mac Pro and  I pad.?

Need to get a printer wireless for Mac Pro  also can be use with the IPad  this is possible? Thank  you

Any of the current HP e-Print capable printers support AirPrint capabilities without even having to enable the e-Print stuff that's purely HP.
Also, make sure your exisiting network router at home supports multicast protocols.  The majority of retail routers support this and you won't have issues, but I've run into problems with carrier issued modem/router combo units from Comcast made by Arris that don't support multicast and other protocols and hence, will not allow for the necessary discovery protocols for AirPrint to work across the wired or wireless network.  In cases like that, the fix is to place those units in "bridge mode" and then use your own router behind it that doesn't restrict that capability.  Just FYI.

  • Dreamweaver for Mac or Windows?

Can I get some advice? I'm trying to decide whether to get
Adobe Creative Suite 3 for Mac, or for Windows. What are the
pros/cons of Dreamweaver, Mac version, versus Dreamweaver, Windows
version? Has anyone used both? If so, which one do you prefer? And
    why?
I tried asking Adobe's sales people about this but they had
no clue. Apparently Adobe doesn't have any documentation or do
benchmarks to compare the two versions.
    Thanks,
    Lisa

Well, what is your "comfort zone" of your hands-on experience
with either one of those mentioned system architecture.
I use Macs for years and I find that very useful and
reliable. However I am being so overly baised aganist Window system
architecture. You'll have to deal with it yourself and you decide,
    because I don't know you.
You have to weigh on several options... and your short-term
and long-term, and cost-wise to operate these system architecture
and types of physical equipment such as Mac or PC platform.
The thing about Mac, as you already know, the cost is very
expensive. But there is a huge trade-off... very very low
maintenance cost on side of Macs. Easy to add different kind of
devices, say printers, digital cameras, external backup drives,
external double layers DVD drive, scanners, list goes on... you
find that very easy to plug them in and ready to use on Mac. As for
Windows, it depends. You will have to add drivers every time when
you add devices manually. Mac does the rest for you.
When people tell you that there are lots of Windows
applications are avaliable for Windows than on Macs. It is simply
not true. Because you can run Windows on top of Mac by using
Parallel (specical software acts like Windows emulator).
As for CS3 on Mac or Windows, it is matter of your comfort
zone. you need to sit down and take a hard look at those systems
that works best for you. I can't decide for you. You have to make
the decision yourself. Adobe cannot make decision for you. That is
why customer service reluclantly tell you.
    Hope that helps.
    Good luck with your decision.
    Cheers, Brian

  • Printers for OS 9

    Hello:
Does anyone know if there is a printer or printers available that is compatable
    with OS 9.2.2?
Our current printer in an HP Deskjet 5550 (about 5 0r 6 years old) which has been replaced by HP with a printer that is not compatable with OS 9.2.2 (Classic).
    Thank you.

Classic means the environment within Mac OS X 10.0 - 10.4.11 PowerPC that allows you to use Mac OS 9 without rebooting your machine.
Classic driver compatibility is much less than full booting into Mac OS 9.
While you can guarantee driver compatibility when booting into Mac OS 9 when you get drivers off this site:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/macos/drivers
The same can't be said for Classic. Apple has made some tips on Classic compatibility here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300849
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh660.html
My FAQ* may help you find some that are truly Classic compatible if the ones asked for here don't suffice.

My other FAQ may help you lose your need for Mac OS 9*:

  • How do I set up e print for my laserjet P1102 for Mac

how do I set up e print for my laserjet P1102 for Mac? I have downloaded soft ware & ejected disc as directed & don't know next step. Thanks

    Hi,
As you have setup the printer now you should be having the printers IP address.
If not please connect your printer to wifi network with a valid internet network and get the IP address by printing the config page.
Make sure you connect Mac Book to the same wifi network.
Now type the IP address on a browser in your Mac Book and hit enter.
You should be able to see the Embedded Web Server page of your printer.
Now navigate to Web Services Tab.
Click on Enable to enable eprint on your printer.
This will enable the web services on your printer and print the information sheet.
The information sheet will contain the claim code for your printer.
The <Claimcode>@hpeprint.com will be your email ID for the printer.
    Kind Regards,
    Oliver

  • Download Link for Mac CS4 on Adobe site?

Adobe used to have (discontinued a year ago) a program for printers called ASN whereby we could purchase and download all  the latest versions and updates for the full suite CS4 for 2 Macs and 2 PCs at a very reasonable price. We could only download; they did not send box sets. Suddenly all Mac CS4 applications crash on our Mac. Adobe says they no longer support CS4 and won't acknowledge a place to download from their site (of course we have serial number). The other issue is that we are still running Mac OSX 10.4.11 (Tiger) on a non Intel Mac so an upgrade to CS 5.5 will not run on our computer.
Does anyone know where we can find a download of the full CS4 for Mac on the Adobe site?  We paid Adobe and feel we should have access to what we paid for. Thanks in advance.

    Dov Isaacs wrote:
There are no links for downloads of older versions of Adobe software.
Err...they are still on Adobe's ESD server.
ProDesignTools has redirecting links that go there, but you have to follow the arcane procedure they dictate: <URL-removed-by-sysop>. Read the instructions carefully.
Since the trial versions and the regular media are the same, you should be able to install and use your existing serial number.
(Dov, I was under the impression this was legitimate...)
