Printers Prefs in osx 10.6.8 in a classroom

I want to change the default printer and list of printer according to the room the people log in  . Presently i copy the user template (2 different ones) but the printer preferences show old ones. I want the list to show the right and default printer because, if i do not, they print on the color printer (first in the list). I don't know where the old list is created and kept.

Apple only made Czech system language available starting with 10.7.0.  Just upgrade your OS to have it.
Sometimes localization files for earlier versions were available via the Apple organizations in the countries where the language was spoken.  You might check with  http://www.apple.com/cz/

  • Which all-in-one printers work with OSX 10.9

Which all in one printers work with OSX 10.9?

See: This article is a comprehensive list of currently supported printer and scanner models and associated software provided by third-party vendors as of 23 January 2014.

  • What printers work with osx 10.8

I was running OSX 10.6 and upgraded to 10.8.2 and my HP 6000 printer no longer works.  I am not able to find a driver for this printer. Should I be looking for a new printer or is a driver going to be released sometime soon? Thanks.

Printer and scanner software available for download ill contain information about printer driver support.. You should also ask tech support or check available drivers for the printers in which you are interested.
Apple does not supply printer drivers other than those provided by printer manufacturers for distribution with OS X.

  • Pref File (OSX 10.5)

So I'm using Lightroom 2.2 in OSX Leopard, and I'm having a bit of a weird issue.
For the last few weeks, LR has been prompting me to do a backup of the catalog every time I open it. I looked to see if the setting was correct, that it was to do it every week, and it was.
I found this annoying, but couldn't really think of what else to do so I ignored it.
Today, however, I decided that I was going to split up my massive catalog into one for each year (going back to '07), which I hope will lead to better performance. Well, I split off one catalog, and went to switch to it to see if everything was kosher. LR closed, re-opened (and prompted to do a backup again, naturally), and then I noticed that the catalog wasn't changed.
A little bit of poking around later, and I've determined that Lightroom can't modify it's own .pref file (In /Users/Steve/Library/Preferences). If I delete it, Lightroom won't make a new one either, and then every time it opens, it acts like it's the first time. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, and fiddling with permissions. No dice.
Anyone have any idea what might be causing this, and what I can do? I'm fresh out of ideas. The only other info I have is that the current permissions on the file itself I don't think matter, because LR can't make a new one either, and the permissions on /Preferences right now are dwrx---wrx+. The + irks me, because I get the feeling that it's some immutable tag, but OSX doesn't seem to have a problem with this, and no other apps are having a problem.
    Thanks!
    Steve Gaucher

Alright guys, I fixed the issue, with a little help from Apple's tech support guys. Here's how:
    1. Turn the root user on. The procedure for doing this can be found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1528
    2. Log out of your main user, log in as root.
    3. Move the Preferences folder onto the main user's desktop.
    4. Log out of root, and log in as your main user again. OSX will recreate the Preferences folder (which in my case may have been corrupted somehow), and will recreate some .plists.
    5. Open Lightroom. Everything works now, including switching catalogs, etc. Some settings will have to be reset and stuff, but that's no big deal.
    6. Move all the files from the Preferences folder on your desktop back into the Preferences folder, overwriting nothing that has anything to do with Adobe. Log out, and back in, and everything should be back to normal for the most part.

  • Can't edit printer list, can't set up printers - Powermac G5, OSX 10.3.9

    Hi,
I recently installed a new hard drive to our Powermac G5 and reinstalled OSX 10.3.9. While we had no problems printing previously I can't even install a printer now.
When I tried to print for the first time it automatically detected the Konica Minolta Bizhub printer we have, however it used a generic post script driver.
As soon as I saw that, I tried to install the printer properly, by doing this:
Click system preferences > click print and fax > click set up printers. Clicking set up printers has no effect. Neither does selecting 'Edit printer list' from the drop down menu of printers below.
The generic postcript driver will not work for us because there are certain functions that need to be enabled using the manufacturs driver for it to print properly. Consequently when I try and print it doesn't work.
    What I've tried so far:
    1)Restarting the machine. No effect.
2)Following some advice on the Apple website I have deleted the Library/printers folder, and reinstalled the driver from the Konica website then restarted the machine. No effect.

    Surely not?

  • Printers compatible with OSX on macbookpro with intel chip

Can anyone reccommend a printer for the macbookpro which seamlessly prints photos from iphoto 6? I have an HP 8250 and it is a pain and doesn't work.

I've had very positive results with my Canon PIXMA IP8500. Canon put out new drivers very quickly.
I'm getting great photo printing from the MBP, either directly hooked up to the printer or via wireless printer sharing with my PowerMac. Borderless printing works well.
I also like the Canon's double-sided print feature for documents -- saves a lot of paper.

  • Dell Printers with OSX and Apple iBook G4

I recently made the switch from a desktop Dell to an Apple notebook. I have not been able to configure my printer with my new Mac. When I try to setup the printer, there is a huge list of possible printer manufacturers, but no Dell. Are Dell printers compatible with OSX? If so, how do I install it?
    My dell printer model: A920
    Thanks for the help.
    -Mac rookie

The A920 is made for Dell by Lexmark.
It is virtually identical to the X1150.
The relevant Lexmark X1150 driver (from information posted on these forums) does not work with the A920.

  • New printers with OS9....please help

New to the forum, but am hoping someone can help or point me in the right direction, I have a Power Mac running OS X and Mac OS classic. Due to two recent accidents I have had to replace my printers in new ones, I have a Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and a Stylus SX415. My problem is that I use Mac os 9 running as classic to print my images out in Photoshop, but the drivers supplied with the printers do not support OS 9. I also have Quark running in 9 so I am going to get the same problem I think. Is there a solution????..........any advice would be appreciated.

When OS9 was created there were not a lot of fancy printers. When OSX was released there were. Since the companies that made the printers didn't have the new printers drivers were not made for OS9. I would recommend saving the Photoshop documents as a PDF and then save them to a flash drive.
Then open OSX and print with preview. You could maybe do a lot of digging to find one that worked. But if it is a recently new printer there probably wouldn't be any drivers for OS9 because to them it is obsolete.

  • Managing users printers

I am trying to manage a group of users printers. Under OSX server 10.4.8 I am trying to push down printers from our OSX print server - separate server from OD server. It appears that I am able to push down printers that are using an LPR or IP connection to the printer from the OD server directly. What I do not seem to be able to do is push down a printer that is "connected" to the OD server via the OSX print server. To put it a slightly different way, I cannot push down a shared printer from the OSX print server using OD. I am able to get as far as the OD server having this printer in its local list but it does not show as an available printer in OD.
Is this a known issue with OD and/or is there a workaround for this currently?
    Thanks

I may have answered my own question here by removing the user-folders that live in the (client-machine)/Library/Managed Preferences/ folder where I found both the
    com.apple.MCX.plist
    AND
    com.apple.mcxprinting.plist
files - I still have to have a few users test this out, but I have the feeling this is the case.

  • How do we setup OSX Server 10.4.9 to allow Windows XP SP2 to print?

    Background information:
We have 3 printers setup on OSX Server 10.4.9.
All 3 are shared in the Print Server as IPP & SMB.
Windows Services are up and running as a PDC allowing users to login and use anything in their respective home folders from the Windows computers.
All computers are on the same network/subnet.
We have made no major changes to OSX Server at this point.
    Problem:
Someone logs into one of the Windows computers using the Domain ran by OSX Server.
In Windows explorer they goto \\SERVER. Once there they see all 3 printers and a "Printers and Faxes" folder containing the same 3 printers.
The 3 printers inside "Printers and Faxes" allow their queues to be looked at in Windows but will not allow themselves to be connected to the Windows computer. They give the same message that the 3 printers outside of the "Printers and Faxes" folder give:
"A policy is in effect on your computer which prevents you from connecting to this print queue. Please contact your system administrator."
    Question:
What must we do in order to get the printers working for use with Windows?

  • Do DVD's from a Macbook Air (OSX 10.5) work on an eMac (2005)?

I purchased a used eMac for my daughter but it did not come with the discs. The previous owner wiped the system and now I need to install the OS to the eMac. I'd prefer installing OSX 10.5 since it will work on the eMac, but want to know if I can use the discs from an older Macbook Air with 10.5 discs for this eMac. Thanks in advance.

Thank you! I am a native Dallasite but headed north about 27 years ago. I now say I am bilingual--I speak both English and Texan!
As you are in the US, you can try a long shot action. Get on the phone and call Apple's Store at 1-800-MY-APPLE. Ask to speak to an operating system specialist. Give them the serial number of the computer. You can find the number easily inside the door for the optical drive.
If they have the software for your model/sub-model on their servers, they can burn you a copy at a nominal charge, usualy around US$16 per disk.
You can also ask if they have 10.5 available on disk. Some people get the right agent and find they can still get burned copies from Apple. Again, both are long shots.
Before going much farther, let's deal with the two elephants in the room:
Elephant #1: Even the fastest eMac (1.42gHz 2005) is going to be a struggle with the modern internet. You will have an old version of Safari that many sites will reject as out of date. The modern internet has abandoned support for the powerPC processor used in all eMacs. You can get a browser, TenFourFox, that keeps the sites from rejecting your browser because it causes the sites to show you are using a recent version of FireFox.  However, it does not support Flash Player so videos are out. And it is slow. I use TenFourFox on an old G4 tower I keep running and, even on our speedy 50MBps cable conecction, many sites run slowly. That said, if you have older games contemporary with eMacs (2002-2005), they will do OK on faster eMacs. Same with productivity programs--Office 2004 runs quite nicely on G4 Macs.
You will not be able to find much new software that runs on that computer.
Elephant #2) A very large number of eMacs with USB 2.0 logic boards and 1.0 and 1.25Ghz processors have a fatal logic board fault that is not worth trying to fix, even if you can find someone who claims to be able to do it. See if the serlal number falls in any of these ranges:
    G8412xxxxxx- G8520xxxxxx
    YM412xxxxxx - YM520xxxxxx
    VM440xxxxxx - VM516xxxxxx
If it does, my recommendation is to stop any action on the computer now and don't throw any money at it.
So we need to pin down your version (there were four versions in two "families"). Please use this Apple article to find which you have and tell us:
eMac: How to locate the serial number and identify your model - Apple Support
Then we can recommend whether to proceed or look for a used Intel Mac--the better choice.

  • Truetype, postscript, opentype problems

We have several macs that we use for publications. Since upgrading from system 9, where all fonts were in one folder and we could limit fonts to postscript (which our offset printers prefer), we have all sorts of font problems.
When we take a quark file, for example, created on one computer and open it on another. Quark sometimes looks for missing fonts. That is not the problem, the problem is when it pulls a truetype (pick any name) font and replaces the postscript font with the same name.
This really is not a quark problem; it just illustrates the problem well. OSX have lots of font folders, so it is hard to pinpoint which ones to focus on. The problem, I guess is that the system require certain truetype fonts to operate and you can't remove them to replace them with postscript versions.
So who can help me isolate the minimum TT fonts needed and how can I use postscript fonts of the same name?
And for a bonus, how do opentype fonts play into this equation

    Hi Scott -
It isn't entirely a QX problem, but that seems to be one of the most prominently problematic apps. I can't begin to sum it up as well as Kurt Lang has here:

  • Photoshop CS 'Program error' but works in different account

My version of Photoshop CS suddenly stopped working. It said 'program error' when I try to load any files. Then, after quitting, it failed to reload each time.
I have tried reinstalling, then uninstalling fully (through Adobe's uninstall procedure). Also, deleting the preferences and font caches but still no luck. So I downloaded the try out version of CS2 and it installed fine. But it now says exactly the same thing '
I created a new account on the computer and tried it from there - and it worked! So I then copied my preferences to that account and it still worked, so I guess it isn't the preferences.
It seems there is something wrong with my main account but not sure where to look. Is it easy to transfer all setting and all files to the new account?
    Thanks
    Alan

I had a lot of grief with this exact problem. I fixed it by deleting my printers in mac OSX preferences. I have not re-added them yet, but since removing the printers I have not had the problem occur since - and this is after an erase and install, an archive and install, upgrading to CSII and calls to Adobe phone support were of no help. Everything else in the CS suite worked, except photshop. Photoshop would work if I created a new user account, but this work-around was not acceptable to me. In desperation, with deadlines looming, I was about to do another erase and fresh install when I found this:
Solution 6: Re-create your printers in Mac OS X.
To re-create your printers, first delete them and then add them again.
    To delete your printers:
    1. Open System Preferences from the Apple menu.
    2. Select Print & Fax, and click Printing.
    3. Select each printer in the list and click the delete key (the minus key).
For instructions on how to add your printers again, see "Setting up to print to a printer" in Mac Help or search Help using the phrase "add a printer."
    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/331627.html
That fixed the problem for me and I really hope that helps someone else. This was a terrible and frustrating problem for me, not only am I a design student but I also earn a living using the Adobe software and my mac, and Photoshop is one of my primary tools.

  • HP Remote Print Drivers

    Hello,
Just to give you some background, I have a HP PhotoSmart 6180 multifunction inkjet machine.  The printer has been wirelessly attached to my home network for about two years now (Linksys WRT54G).  All print functions work (printing to photo tray, using the document feeder, accessing the scanner, printing via bluetooth dongle, etc) when I am home on the network.  I even have on my Windows Mobile phone an application called HP iPhoto which allows me to wirelessly print to the photo tray.  You see, there are no problems on this end.
Here is my problem: Using my Windows-based PC, I have the ability to print to it remotely via the internet.  I use the HP Remote Printing, v 2.323.0.0 driver and Instant Share through HP's site. I can also print remotely using any program that has a print function, i.e... Internet Explorer, MS Word, Adobe PDF, HP Solution Center, etc.). However, I cannot choose the photo paper tray.  I am only able to change the size of the print job, for instance: 4x6, 8 1/2X11, Hagaki.  In the HP Remote Printing Preferences, only two tabs are available: Paper/Quality and Basic.  In the Remote Printing Properties, the Device Settings tab (which is one of the tabs available when I look at the properties of the actual printer) is not available.  This is where I would add the available trays.  I believe it has to do with the driver version.
It would help me tremendously if I can have the ability to choose the photo paper tray when printing remotely.  Most of the items that I send to my printer are photos. I've tried and tried to get help from HP, but to no avail (my printer is out of warranty, not applicable for free support, etc.).  Please help. It would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanking you in advance.

    Hi again.
You're quite correct, it is CUPS (Common UNIX Printer System).
Is http://www.linuxprinting.org/database.html what you were looking for?
There are many '1100' HP printers listed.
OSX also installs Gimp print drivers, I'm a total ignoramus as to how you set them up though, sorry.

  • Epson Stylus Photo R320 Won't show in OS 9.2.2 Chooser

I just purchased an Epson Stylus Photo R320, primarily to print on CDs and DVDs. This fancy new inkjet replaced my dependable Epson C-86. My problem is that after installing the Epson printing software on my G5 2.0, I can print, as usual, great in 10.4.5, but now, not in OS9.2.2 anymore. The R320 icon shows up in the left side of the Chooser, but when I select it, nothing shows up on the right side. I really don't want to go back to my C-86 since it doesn't print on CD/DVD media and I still use some old OS9 software that still works great but now won't print. I've done all the little things one might expect (i.e., throw away prefs, reinstall OSX and OS9, reinstall only OS9, permissions, etc.) but to no avail. I even reinstalled the OSX software. Nothing.
    Any thoughts on this?

    Hello 64M,
Is Chooser showing your USB bus or is it showing the default Modem or Printer port Setting?
