Printers recommended for mac os x 10.6.8?

Printers recommended for a macbook os x 10.6.8?

Personally I would never recommend any kind of inkjet - I've had two and abandonned them. Endless trouble with ink drying out and cost a fortune to run. I now use a Samsung ML-1610 mono laser - canNOT recommend it because officially it is not Mac compatible at all but more recent models are. If you must use an inkjet, check out consumer test mags, in UK "Which?" and "Computing Which?" It's very interesting to see the huge difference in running costs between different models. I'm using OS X 10.6.8, also have 10.7.2 on a bootable external drive where it can't do any harm.

  • Printer recommendation for Mac os x 10.4.11?

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a printer for my Mac os x 10.4.11?
None of the printers I've looked at instore(s) state whether they are compatible or not.
I'd like to print both B&W, Colour and photos too. It would be a nice optional extra to get an All-In-One with a scanner, but it is not a necessity.
    Any recommendations?

I have a Canon model i960 for the past 10 years & never had an ink clog or jam. I have printed thousands of photos. I would recommend a Canon printer. Look at these various models. I believe all will work with 10.4.

  • Website building software recommendations for Macs

Looking for advise on web-building software that is Mac friendly, easy to use and cheap. I have a career counseling practice and want to build my visibility and do not anticipate needing more than 5 pages but would like blog capability as well.
Kind thanks for recommendations and advice as to a more appropriate forum for this question if appropriate.
    Thanks so much.

    Hi Connie
No problem! I think there are 25 or so ... it's really a very straightforward program to use, I suggest you have a look at the tutorials and then jump in and see how you get on. You can always post back if you have specific questions (though I do recommend you post in the iWeb forum section, just because you'll get more specific help there).
    good luck!

  • Need Digital SLR recommendation for Mac

I hope this is posted at the right location.
I would like to buy my first digital SLR camera.
Can any one recommend a digital SLR that would work well with my Mac (presently 350Mhz G4, 384MB, OS10.3.7, but can upgrade to 10.4, and would like to get a new Mac within the year; photos would be stored on an external Lacie 160 GB HD).
I am interested in, but not limited to, the Canon Rebel XT, Canon EOS 20D, Nikon D50, and Nikon D70S.
I know there are sometimes issues with cameras and Macs - do any of these perform better than others with the Mac and iphoto (which I have not used yet); any not well at all?
From what I have read, I favor the Canon EOS 20D.
On the other hand, It's been my impression that Nikkor lenses were at the top, and buying a Nikon gets you into that line of lenses. But that may not be so any more, if it ever was; Canon has a good reputation also.
I seem to recall Macworld giving a stromg recommendation to the Nikon D70 some time ago, but I can't track that down.
Any input at all would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    G4   Mac OS X (10.3.7)

All the cameras you mention will work fine with the Mac and iPhoto, though iPhoto isn't a capable enough application to make the most of the pictures any digital SLR can produce — before long you'll want an image processing application that offers more features and control.
Don't choose a camera on the basis of Mac compatibility or iPhoto compatibility — those are non-issues. Choose the camera on its own merits as a photographic tool and on the basis of how each one feels and handles. Don't buy any of these cameras without handling it. And don't choose on the basis of either manufacturer's reputation for lens quality: those reputations were made by their professional lens lines, not the cheap amateur lenses that are offered with these low-end cameras. You can replace them with the better pro lenses, but at a considerable increase in cost.

  • Recommendations for Mac for Final Cut Express

Hello all- I'm a lifelong p.c. user who is going to make the jump to macs so I can use audio and video software for editing and rendering much more smoothly. Initially, I'm going to be using Pro Tools and Final Cut Express. This computer will be dedicated, where I'll be using ONLY Pro Tools or FCE on it. I have an HD camcorder that records to AVCHD, and want smooth playback while editing. (Sony Vegas 8 on my p.c. just ain't cuttin' it- very choppy).
My quick question is if anyone could recommend a macbook/macbook pro, either present or past, that could handle FCE smoothly. I am on a bit of a budget. I'm searching ebay, craigslist, and the apple site as well, but since I'm not so familiar with macs, I'm a bit overwhelmed. I can't tell the difference between older and newer macs!
I know with FCE, question of the video graphic chip, rendering time, etc. come into play. I may also in the future move to Final Cut Pro, and so I would like to make sure that I don't get frustrated by a mac that can't handle that.
If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd be really grateful. Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum,
If you want to go AVCHD is pretty simple.
You require a Mac that has _Intel processors_ and expandable to at least _two gig_ of RAM.
This type of Mac will be fairly recent.
FCE 4 is required and there is an free update to 4.0.1.

  • Need a recommendation for Mac music management program

Can anyone recommend a good music management program for the Mac that will allow me to tag and rename all my mp3 files in bulk mode? Thank you.

Search one of the compendium sites such as MacUpdate for "MP3 tag". You'll find a number of possible options, one of which may work for you.

  • Need advice on what antivirus/security measures are recommended for Macs

Between us my husband and I have a MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air.
I'm looking for guidance on what might or might not be useful, beyond what is standard on a Mac, to protect against viruses and improve security on our system.
    Thanks in advance!

    (1) Don't install any commercial anti-virus software. It's all useless garbage.
Not true, at least if you email or send files to Windows users. It won't do you much good if your Mac isn't compromised but theirs is by something you pass along to them. Any info about you on their computers is put at risk of exploitation. We live in a connected world, & like it or not we are all in this together.
    (2) Use your administrator account (the first one you created) only for administrative tasks such as installing software.
This offers reasonable protection but some malware is potentially capable of exploiting unpatched vulnerabilities that allow privileges to be escalated to admin or even root level without a user's knowledge. And even if an exploit is confined to the domain of a regular user account it can still do damage or compromise information.
NEVER enter your administrator password when prompted to do so by an application UNLESS it's a built-in application, such as the Installer.
That would preclude the use of a great deal of commercial software that doesn't use Apple's Installer.app, including most Adobe products.
NEVER install any third-party software except by drag-and-drop into your Applications folder, or by download from the App Store.
Same as above: not everything users want or need uses Apple's installer or can be installed by a simple drag & drop. And obviously, if the system is already infected all bets are off: you can no longer trust Installer.app to be what it says it is.
NEVER run any program you receive as an unsolicited email attachment, even if you know and trust the apparent sender.
This does not apply only to attachments containing executable code, or even just to email. Apple has provided security updates to patch vulnerabilities that can be exploited just by clicking on links to maliciously formed web pages. This kind of attack is becoming more popular, in part because browsers send info about the client computer to the server that can be used to tailor the attack to the specific vulnerabilities of the platform, & in part because browsers increasingly rely on executing scripts & other instructions provided by web pages to render them.

  • Recommended printers for mac

We are looking for recommendations for the best printers that play very well with a Mac. We have had Canon printers but the printer interface using the Mac is not as easy to use or as comprehensive as the Windows interface.

I have a Brother model DCP-7065dn "black and white only" laser printer, copier, scanner because I not need the hassles with color inks in a color ink-jet printer.  It has it's quirks but it does what I need it to do.  It gives me the print quality I want, easy scanning of stuff to my hard drive, double sided printing(albeit, for copying, having to manually feed two one-sided documents to make one two-sided copy) and the ability to do envelopes when I need to do them(albeit having to feed the envelopes one at time).  On a rating of 5 stars, I'd probably give it a 3.

  • SOME Windows machines can't browse for Mac printers

I have a Mac mini with an HP 5940 attached to it. I also have three Windows machines hanging around: my laptop, my wife's laptop, and my wife's desktop. My laptop and my wife's desktop are running XP Pro SP2. My wife's laptop is running XP Media Center Edition SP2. My mini is running 10.5.3.
My laptop has no difficulty with the printer. It can print all day long, browse for the printer, anything I want to do.
My wife's machines cannot. They cannot browse for the printer (browsing ends at the computer entry for the Macintosh). They had a previously set up print queue (evidently this did work before), but cannot print using it; documents pile up on the PC.
If I create a new printer on my wife's machine and enter the \\machine\queue stuff manually, I am prompted for a username and password for the connection. Entering my Mac short username and password allows me to print from her machines, until they reboot. Upon reboot, the print queue no longer works; documents pile up at the PC, etc.
I can see no difference in the way the print queues are set up on all of the machines.
I do not know why my laptop can browse the Mac's printers while my wife's cannot.
I do not know why my wife's machines require a username and password in order to connect to the printer, while mine does not.
I do not know how to enter a username and password for my wife's printers upon rebooting without deleting and recreating the printer. Which means I have to type the lengthy \\machine\queue stuff again, because browsing doesn't work.
    Any ideas?

And I have now fired up the desktop PC I retired when I installed this Mac mini.
Like my laptop, it has no trouble browsing the printers on the Mac or printing to them.
So, I have a total of 5 machines trying to print over the network to the Mac:
    - My laptop PC works
    - My desktop PC works
    - My NetBSD box works
    - My wife's laptop PC *does not* work
    - My wife's desktop PC *does not* work
I don't know how the Mac can tell whether a machine is mine or my wife's so it knows whether or not to work...

  • Which O/S upgrade is recommended for a MAC Book Pro17 with Intel Core Duo 2.16 GHz

Which O/S upgrade is recommended for a MAC Book Pro17 with Intel Core Duo 2.16 GHz
    I am using os x 10.4.11.
Do I need to upgrade to 10.5.xx? Will this platform suport 10.6.xx? If 10.6 will work do I need to install 10.5 first?
    Thanks...

Hi. Your computer can be upgraded to either Leopard 10.5 or Snow Leopard 10.6. 10.6 will be much easier to find and will be less expensive. Leopard is not required prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard.

    Hello,
It isn't the fw in Network you want o use or look at, that's for something completely different.
My first suspect is the Power Adapter on the LaCie has gone.
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware>Firewire, what is listed there?
    Reset the Firewire bus
If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device.  A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:
    1. Shut the machine down.
    2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive or devices.
    3. leave it for 10 minutes.
    4. Connect back up and reboot.

  • Compatible printers for Mac mini (Mac's)

Where can I find a list of compatible printers for Mac. My current Windows printer is a Canon LBP-1120 and cannot use it with my Mac mini. So its probably time to get another printer for my Macs.

I should add that there are a number of printers that are compatible and that don't necessarily appear to be so as a result of third-party drivers. This includes, if I'm not mistaken, some Canon models which can be plugged in and selected in Printer setup.
Others, such as at least some Epson, HP and Lexmark models, are supplied with Windows and MacOS drivers (you need to make sure they're for the right version of MacOS) or the box will be labelled such that it indicates PC/Mac compatibility.
You might take a quick look at the printers offered through the online Apple store (under Mac accessories) to get an idea of which makes to look at. This will only tell you about current models of course, but should at least prove a reliable starting point.

  • Recommended lowest Mac Specifications for 32-Channel Recording.

I've been looking a lot into using Logic for Multi-Track recording our bands in a Live setting.
I mix on a Yamaha M7CL and just purchased two MY16-AT Expansion cards that each give us 16 Channels of Digital Direct Out output, 32 Channels output in total. To go with that, I picked up a Presonus Firestudio Lightpipe 32-Channel Interface. For the time being, I only have Logic Express 8 so I will be using that on my Macbook Pro recording 16 Channels.
My question is, what is recommended for best performance on a desktop machine when recording 32 Channels once I upgrade to Logic Studio? I'm shooting to get a new iMac, but want to be sure that I am getting a machine that wont struggle too much when I'm editing the tracks. For example, the 20" (Current Generation) iMac, 2.66ghz and 4gb ram. I'm curious how that would handle it, especially on a bit of a budget.
Any ideas or suggestions are helpful, thanks.

I've never used my Mac to record live, but I have had more than 66 mono tracks running at once in LE7 on my Macbook from an external drive without a hitch. For 32 tracks the specs you listed should be plenty of machine to handle it, IMO.
