Printers

If I am interested in purchasing a Mac, I need to know a few things first. One of my main questions is about printers.
I need a printer/fax/copier/scanner. I am hoping for an all-in-one. I have looked on the Apple Online Store, and I have found some. However, I have had my eye on another HP one. How can I tell if it will work with the Mac? (I am questioning it because I have heard Macs are a little bit fussy about printers).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I forgot the model at this time, but if you need it, I can find it out.

Hmm Dial up will make a diffrence. Most routers only support a broadband connection meaning if you have a ethernet printer+dial up you will need to split it somehow else i think. IMO your best option is a USB printer anyways. Try to find one that has a USB Cable if your not sure what i'm talking about go to a electronics store (Future shop/best buy/ or a website) and ask a saleman or on a website look for USB in the specifications. Most printers have USB plugs in and some multiple plug in options (USB and Ethernet). Try to find a printer that's right for u... good luck
Wannabe,
If you have any more questions i'll be glad to help.

    Hi,
    Before go out to buy a converter/transformer  (you need over 2KW for all 3 of them), please check the switches at the back, they may have switches to switch from 110V to 220V. I don't know your market, my suggestion: talk with an electrician who knows the real world much better.
    Regards.

  • How do I move printers to a different ePrintCenter account without losing my ePrint address?

    You may find that you have a lot of printers on an ePrintCenter account and want to divide them across multiple accounts, but they are already setup on one account and want to keep the ePrint address.
    There are some other scenarios where a printer may need to be moved from one account to another, but it does not seem it is well known.
    This is from the Help section of www.eprintcenter.com.
    Move a printer from one ePrintCenter account to another
    Removing a printer from one ePrintCenter account allows you to add it to a different ePrintCenter account. To move a printer from one ePrintCenter account to another:
    Click on the “X” on the printer's tab on your ePrintCenter account to remove the printer from that account. Note: Your printer's Print Apps and ePrint features will continue to work after it is removed from your account.
    Using the Web Services option on printer front panel menu, reprint the Web Services Information Sheet with the printer code on it.
    Log into the desired ePrintCenter account and add the printer as you normally would. If you don't know your printer ID or email address, use the Web Services menu to retrieve it from the printer.
    Note: You will not be able to use ePrintCenter to configure your print apps or manage ePrint settings unless your printer is added to an ePrintCenter account.

  • How can I share printers using a non apple router, imac to ipad?

    Newbie in osx, but experienced in linux.
    My new imac has 3 printers setup for sharing, but ipad 2 / iphone 4 fail to see them.  I am using the belkin router that I owned already, instead of buying an Airport.
    I found a solution at askubuntu.com Q 26130 at http://askubuntu.com/questions/26130/how-can-share-my-printer-so-that-i-can-use- it-with-airprint
    I setup a linux machine on the network, with no physical connection to any printer. The 1st, an hp fax psc has a usb to imac, as the 2nd, an hp psc, the 3rd printer is an epson wireless, which is only connected on the network by wifi to the belkin router. I'm certain the imac "sharing" is properly setup, because the linux machine has no trouble finding the printers.  Only the ipad / iphone have a problem.
    Once I put the linux machine (with the above changes) on the network, everything works as desired.  I can print on the ipad / iphone to any of the 3 printers, using the built in Airport printer routine (not the epson or hp apps). And the imax and linux machines can also print on all 3.
    So, I suspect the imac isn't telling the router to display the printers on the network in a way that iOS can see them. I know it would work if I owned an Airport, but I'd rather not spend that much right now.
    I'm sure someone knowledgable in OSX might have an idea where to stick an Airport definition file, created from the python script in askubuntu, that could solve this without having to run the linux laptop all the time.  Any ideas?
    TIA

    It's possible to use free software (Virtualbox and Ubuntu) to fix the broken iOS 5 Airprint printing with non supported printers.  Here's a fix that works on my imac, but should also work on even a windows pc.
    My setup is a lion imac with 2 non-airprint supported usb printers attached, a belkin wifi router that provides network connectivity for my imac, ipad, and iphone.
    Install ubuntu 11.10 in a virtualbox vm.  Specify to use the "Bridged Adapter" with "en1: WiFi (AirPort)" for the network hardware.  Make sure the imac's usb printers are setup with sharing.  On ubuntu, select System Settings > Printers and add your imac's shared printers to the list.  Then start ubuntu's firefox and set "localhost:631" in the address. On the administration tab, under the Server section, check "Share printers connected to this system" and hit Change Settings button to activate it.  Go back to ubuntu's printer setup, and right click on each printer and check that the properties Policies tab does not have any messages about it being unshared. If so, then go back to firefox and make sure the Server sharing checkbox is enabled. It may help to reboot.
    Fire up virtualbox to be able to use AirPort printing to your imac's usb printers, when you want to print from the iphone or ipad. This also works on iOS 5.
    Only problem is error message from iphone to check the printer for errors, even though it actually prints ok.

  • HT3669 HP M1213nf MFP Printers can't scan using OSX Mavericks

    I have 2 HP M1213nf MFP Printers they both install fine and printing is ok from OSX Mavericks and iOS devices however there is no sign of being able to scan from these. The articles on both apple and HP site just don't work as there are no scan options to click if you follow the instructions!
    none of the described scan methods work ie using preview, image capture etc because there is no scanner shown
    my current work around is install the scanner into windows 7 via parrallels.... nice one apple....
    I would really much prefer to be able to scan natively into OSX

    Well, you should qualify that statement.
    It does not work under Mavericks (at least it doesn't for me in Mountain Lion). The OS support for this printer is gone.
    The only "work" around here is to use the HP Scan application. Please correct me if I am wrong.
    Yes, I have the Lion version drivers installed. See: https://discussions.apple.com/message/24142631#24142631

  • Reader 9 PDF printing problem with Canon printers

    If you get no job output but only a blinking LED on various Canon network printers this might help:
    1. Open Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
    2. Choose File > Print.
    3. Click the Advanced button.
    4. Check "let printer determine colors"
    Additionally you might need to set the "Font and Resource Policy" dropdown to "Send for Each Page" as described in http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb408015&sliceId=1
    Good luck!

    Abhigyan,
    The Java Script hasn't changed in 2 years. It was developed by an Adobe Partner. Adobe Reader and Acrobat have changed.
    I'll try to step through the script but haven't had much luck in past.
    Here are the lines that Reader likely is throwing the error:
    oDoc.print(pp);
    if ( bCloseNoSave )  oDoc.closeDoc({bNoSave:true});
    As I stated, it works in previous versions of Reader (9.0 through version 9.3.2). The issue began when Adobe released version 9.3.3.

  • HP Wireless Printers cannot connect to WPA2-secured WiFi networks with Cisco/Meraki WAPs

    In the last two months, I've had the displeasure of working with two very different HP printers and attempting to make them work on a WPA2-secured wireless network.  All attempts to authenticate fail with "invalid phassphrase".
    I'm not the first person to encounter this, it's a problem with many different HP wireless printers (I just happen to have physical access to the OfficeJet Pro 8610 & Deskjet 3511).
    My equipment is a Cisco ASA 5505 Firewall running ASA 9.1x & Cisco Aironet 1142 running IOS 15.3.x.
    What does work on the WPA2/AES SSID:  Apple MacBook Air running OSX 10.10.2, Three Windows-Based laptops running Windows 8.1 Update 1, an iPhone 5s, Three Windows Phone 8.1 devices, Roku 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Sharp Aquos TV, Amazon Streaming Stick, and an Android Tablet (Jellybean).  Basically, everything.
    What does not work on the WPA2 network:  OfficeJet Pro 8610 & Deskjet 3511.
    To test the theory there is a problem with HP's implementation of WPA2 with regard to Cisco Aironet IOS, I built out a second SSID that only works in WPA/TKIP mode.  This solution works.  Both HP printers will join the WPA/TKIP network.
    So, I'm able to demonstrate there is a certain connectivity issue.  When i look at AAA Debug on the WAP's console, I can observe the HPs attempt to authenticate "Bind I/F" on the WPA2 SSID, however they do not achieve authentication and do not pass the AAA phase.  However, on the WPA SSID, they bind and authenticate successfully.
    To help illustrate this, here is my WAP running config.  It's about as simple as it can get.  There is no relevant MAC filtering or ACLs bound to any interface.  Noting that I have an ACL on remote access to the WAP (i.e. Locked down to SSH, disabling telnet).  The main point being that the ASA firewall is not a factor in this problem as the issue is at the WAP before WPA2 authentication can complete, therefore the printers never reach the network / when the printers connect to the WPA network, the operate fully & correctly.
    If anyone at HP can indicate why this particular config is somehow improper or broken, that would be fantastic.  There should be no reason why Cisco / Meraki WAP owners have to lower wireless encryption standards just for a printer, be forced into wired, create separate SSIDs with lower encryption specifically for a device.

  • Printing problems (printjob, 1.2.2, 1.3, WinNT and HP printers)

    We are experiencing a landry list of problems with java 1.2.2 and 1.3 when trying to print reasonably simple reports. I am just curious if anyone has encounterd problems like these, or if anyone has had any luck working around them. We would really like to release our software to production but I need to make sure that printing works well on all of the environments our client might run on. Here are the problems:
    * Reporting was originaly done with a proprietary tool that limits us to using java.awt.PrintJob (new code is using PrinterJob... which is working okay...)
    * When I try to use jre1.3 on my NT4.0 machine with a very simple program that gets a PrintJob it doesn't open the Print dialog and simply returns null (although it does work on my WinME laptop, and I cant find any bug reports about PrintJob dialogs on this site)
    * When I try to use jre1.2 (which was our original target) there are problems with some printers running with some drivers (in house they are all various network HP printers). The printers will take 3 minutes a page while the same printer with an different driver (non-PS or PCL) will print very quickly.
    Well I need some advice, are other people releasing software that doesn't work with all the possible ways that people could have their printers configured? Is there any hope of me finding a workaround... Is someone perhaps maintaining a list of drivers that work well with java? Or is there some empirical way of deciding (perhaps drivers that are not PS or PCL?)... Any responce would be very helpful...

    Well, I decided to post my problem in more than one forum and got a response that may be what you are looking for. I haven't tried it yet and I'm not sure I understand it correctly, but I thought it may help you since it deals with printJob and supposedly works:
    Other person wrote the following:
    I have worked on printing but through Print Job.
    i Print Multiple pages in landscsape.
    in the printer Job you can print the static information
    like if you implemented BOOk for mutiple pages it will only print the last information of your print function.
    i found many problems when i was trying to implemnet printer Job
    here is the complete code how can you print through print Job u can extends this to implement for multiple pages just use array of graphics.
    Graphics Arrpage[];
    Arrpage=new Graphics[count_pages];
    PageAttributes pa=new PageAttributes();
    pa.setOrientationRequested(PageAttributes.OrientationRequestedType.LANDSCAPE);
    this.setCursor(Cursor.getPredefinedCursor(Cursor.WAIT_CURSOR));
    Toolkit toolkit = this.getToolkit();
    PrintJob job = toolkit.getPrintJob(new Frame(), user,null,pa);
    if (job == null) return;
    for(int j=0;j<count_pages;j++)
    Arrpage[j] = job.getGraphics();
    // Check the size of the scribble component and of the page.
    Dimension size = this.getSize();
    Dimension pagesize = job.getPageDimension();
    // Center the output on the page. Otherwise it would be
    // be scrunched up in the upper-left corner of the page.
    Arrpage[j].translate((pagesize.width - size.width)/2, (pagesize.height - size.height)/2);
    Arrpage[j].setColor(Color.white);
    Arrpage[j].fillRect(0,0,pagesize.width,pagesize.height);
    Arrpage[j].setClip(0, 0, size.width, size.height);
    Arrpage[j].dispose(); // End the page--send it to the printer.
    //System.out.println("Disposing "+j+" page");
    }// end of for loop
    //System.out.println("before ending the job");
    job.end(); // End the print job.
    Hope this will help u.

  • HT5639 Can I use usb internet sticks and/ or printers which don't speak apple with boot camp and win 7/ 8?

    Hello all,
    As a reference point for my technological skills, I work in international development and in timber framed building construction and repair. Beyond Ford full- size pick-ups pre 1993, I mostly employ 19th century systems.
    This MacBook Pro is marvelous, but won't read or accept some older printers and usb internet sticks. There is also a problem with windows 8 on many of these international and older/ cheaper US devices. Will a MacBook Pro be able to communicate with them in windows 7 running on Boot Camp, or on any of the other Windows on Mac platforms? Does one work better with old stuff than another? Are any of them simpler/ more intuitive to use than others?  Any informtion or suggestions, no matter how basic would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Rob

    I have tried it with all 3 options. I tried the first two options with the printer plugged into port 1 on the adapter and the third option with the printer plugged into port 2. This means that I may have effectively installed all 3 options/scripts. Do I need to throw them away and start again?
    Running the Choose Serial Port script writes a file that is used in processing print jobs. If you run the script a second time, it will replace the existing file with a new file.
    Do I also need to configure these ports in the network settings under System Preferences?
    No.
    I notice too that no 'location' is given for the Stylewriter II, whereas a location is given for my other (Lexmark) printer, which is connected to the G5 iMac directly via a USB cable.
    That is of no consequence. Use of the Location field is optional.
    I would suggest you proceed as follows:
    1. Go to the /Library/Receipts folder at the root of your hard drive. Delete the item Foomatic for StyleWriter.pkg.
    2. Start the installation over from the beginning. Install the Foomatic for StyleWriter software.
    3. Run the Choose Serial Port for StyleWriter script. Upon further reflection of your possible use of two Keyspan adapters, I would suggest you choose the serial port with the format USA28X...P1.1 rather than KeySerial1.
    4. Run the Add StyleWriter to Printer List.
    Try printing a document. If it still does not work, download a troubleshooting script from my website http://webpages.charter.net/mbroughtn/downloads/Test7Stylewriter.command.zip Run the script. Copy and paste the contents of the Terminal window in a reply. That should point to what is going wrong.

  • HP printers in SOLARIS 10

    Dear all,
    we are using cups 1.1.20 on our Sparc running Solaris 10
    5/09 where printers from XEROX and HP are to be used.
    By copying the XEROX .ppd files to /opt/sfw/cups/share/cups
    /model we are able to setup the XEROX printers via the GUI
    where we select the relevant drivers under the Model XEROX
    menu.
    Now we want to do the same procedure with the HP printers:
    Although we put some HP .ppd files to ../share/cups/model
    Dir they didn't appear in the GUI's Model HP submenu.
    Instead of that we see all the "foomatic/hpijs" models
    stored under /opt/sfw/cups/share/cups/model/hpijs/HP.
    Why? and 2nd question: Is there any way to force the GUI
    to accept also the HP .ppd files under ../share/cups/
    model Dir.

    I found the HP JetDirect Printer Installer for UNIX on the HP website. The version is E.10.34, dated 5 Aug 2002. The HP site says it is for Solaris 2.6, 7, 8, and 9. Should this installer be used with Solaris 10?
    Alice Soteriou, in a Dec. 2001 article ("Basic Principles of Printing in Solaris 2.6 and Above") on the Sun website says, "Sun's position on this is to always use the vendor-supplied application to create the print queues. This is because it will probably supply the exact interface file to make the most of your printer's features (that is, duplexors, multiple trays, different font sizes and styles, etc.)" However, elsewhere on the Sun site, there are warnings against using such applications for security reasons and comments that the HP JetDirect Print Installer is not supported. What is Sun's current advice on this?
    Alice's 2001 article has been reproduced as postings on supportforum.sun and sunsolve.sun.com with dates in January and February of 2005, but these repostings do not address using this application with Solaris 10.

  • Windows 7 pro Auto Deleating all printers on Network

    Over the past months we have replaced all of our computers from Windows XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro unites. When the last computer was changed out, (it is the computer
    that all of our printers are connected to the network through. Printers we use on our network, an Epson Lq 570+ (Connected by parallel port), HP OfficeJet Pro 8100 (Connected by USB port),  HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A (Connected by USB
    port) and a Eltron 2844 UPS printer (Connected by USB port) they all get automatically deleted for a workstation at the same time.
    We have 6 computers on the network. I have the computers setup on / in both a Workgroup and a Home Group. 1 we store all of our files on this computer
    and is not used as a workstation, 1 has all of our printers connected to it and this is not used as a workstation and 4 computers us as workstations.   The network was working great before I replaced the last XP computer with the printers
    on it. The next day one of the workstations did not have any of the network printers in device manger so I added them back.  They automatically deleted four time yesterday and two time already today.  Now a second computer
    is doing the same thing.  What is wrong, if this continues I will need to go back to the old computer running XP Pro.
    Thanks for your help

    Karen,
    Old Network: We have 6 computers on the network. (5 are running Windows 7 Pro) (1 is running XP Pro)  the computer running XP Pro has all the printers connected to
    it (4... 1 HPOffice Jet Pro 8100   1 HP Office Jet Pro 8500   1 Eltron 2800 UPS Lable Printer and 1 Epson LQ570+)  in this configuration the network is working great all 5 computers running Windows 7 Pro can print
    and the printers stay in "Devices and Printers"
    The new network: We have 6 computers on the network all running windows 7 Pro. The only change was to  change out the Last XP Pro computer with a Windows 7 Pro Computer. We set up all the printers on the
    new computer (printers same as above) and shared the with all the other computers.   Under this setup we are loosing the printers on all the computers other then the computer that they are plug into. when it happens we loose all 4 printers
    on one of the other computers.  I then reset them up on that computer and later a different computer has lost the printers.  this goes on all day and that is why I went back to the computer running XP Pro
    I hope this explains it a little better.
    I believe it is a Windows 7 problem or it could be that I'm using both a "Workgroup" and a "Home Group".   (I had to set up a Workgroup when I had a mix of XP and Windows 7 computers.)
    Thanks for your help

  • Is there a way to stop the B8550 and D7560 printers from wasting ink?(Black)

        I am having serious ink problems on two new HP printers. A little history, have always had HP printers. First was a 600 series desk jet one of the first consumer models. Used 2 years and never had to replace ink cartridge. Then I bought an 895 desk jet when it first came out -state of the art nearly a 1,000. bucks and it would print several hundred documents per black cartridge. Only had to replace 2 or 3 over the years. Finally the little rubber cap/seal (where the print head parks when not in use) lost its elasticity/flexibility and the ink cartridges started drying up after a few weeks. In the mean while I purchased a 5P LaserJet and used 2 toner cartridges before drum went south. Then added a LaserJet 1300 for volume black and white and have used 4 cartridges in it and still printing fine. Only problem with it is the cartridge cost as much as a new laser jet! I also bought a HI-TI dye sub to print 4x6 photos when I went to digital cameras from film.  So a few months ago Late summer-early fall I bought two photo-smart HP's, a B8550 and a D7560 to print larger photos (they use the same cartridges so only need one set of spares, and it looks like HP is not developing new printers, but are concentrating efforts on the all-in-ones) and had planned to use the 7560 for occasional documents since I've retired and don't print high volume black and white documents anymore. These use the 5 ink, 564 cartridges and come in XL sizes. I bought an extra set of cartridges. The 8550 only printed 1 document before it ran out 3-4 weeks. The 7560 printed the alignment page and 4 pages on the first cartridge (Black) second cartridge, only 1 after set-up and the third didn't last long enough to print any. These printers go through some sort of cleaning/alignment/set-up procedure every few minutes and this wastes all of the ink needlessly. There is a large glob of dried ink on and under the foam pad where the print head parks. Needless to say but I can't afford $35.00 per page ink costs. Repeated calls to tech-support tell me this is the way they are designed for consistent print quality. This has to be the worst printer design in history or maybe they are designed to use supplies up needlessly (as some posters have suggested). The only way I have found to work around this is to remove the cartridges after each printing and store them in a zip-lock bag with a moist paper towel.
    I would like to be able to buy an ink cartridge, install it in the printer, print occasionally and have ink in the printer the next time I need to print., and/or only do a clean/alignment when I ask it to.
    P.S. I had a custom made computer desk and hutch built for my components and I need printers with front loading paper trays.
    HELP any suggestions???
    Thanks
    DG

    I use a HP Photosmart Premium 309a all-in-one that uses the same 5 ink system & technology that's in the B8550 & D7560.  I've just checked & since the end of November I've printed  756 pages (730 documents & 26 photos) & I have not had to change out my supplies.  On looking at the page yield info for the B8500 series (http://h10060.www1.hp.com/pageyield/en-019/yields/PSB8500_photo.html?cCode=us) it should be possible to print approx 100 4 X 6 photos with 564 supplies.The initialisation process that you mention is necessary to maintain consistent print quality and I hear this happening on my printer too but it usually only happens just before or after a print job.  If your printers are going through the initialisation process every few minutes then it may be advisable to communicate this to Tech Support because it certainly does not match my experience.You may find that by taking the cartridges out and storing them in a moist environment that you may have issues with printing when you re-insert them because the docking filters on the print head may dry out because the supplies are not connected.

  • Windows 8 Add a Device not finding all of my IP printers

    Hello all.  My organization is migrating to Windows 8. We currently use IP printers in our offices (24 locations total). Currently, in XP, we have a customized powershell script that allows users to locate a printer and install it.  In windows
    8, we'd like users to be able to click Add a Device.... scan the network, see their printer, and install it.  Im testing this on a subnet in the main office with a few test machines running Windows 8.
    The problem is, when i click Add a Device, only 3 printers show up (there should be a dozen or so).  I have tried to compare the settings on the printers that show up to those that do not, but i dont see any differences.  I have tweaked the settings
    on several of the printers with no affect.  We have a few different models, HP 4345 all-in-ones, 4700 color laserjets, 4300 laserjets, and 4515 laserjets.  We also have some Xerox 9203 and 5790 models.  Only the Xerox 9203 and HP 4515 printers
    show up.
    I have tried using some of the settings discussed here:

    but still nothing.  Hoping someone else has some experience with this type of thing and can point me in the right direction.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Considering that the issue is caused by network issue.
    Please firs try to ping the IP of the printer which doesn't display.
    If it fails, we can see that the printer is not configured correctly on the network, please reset it again.
    If we can ping the printer IP successfully, please try if we can install the printer via the UNC address: \\host\computerIP.
    If your device has a wireless switch, make sure it’s turned on. The switch could be on the front, back, or side, and it could be small and unmarked. Check the info that came with your device to see if a picture shows where it’s located.
    Post back the testing results.

  • Printers disappear when trying to print pdf/a documents...?

    The only way to get the printers back is to roll back windows. Very time consuming and irritating. Does anyone know it this is a common problem or if it is more likely to be a faulty installation?
    Cheers,
    Mats

    Is this a home system or a work environment?
    What's your OS? Acrobat version?
    We have a similar problem sometimes at work that the printers disappear, however this is due to the Citrix work environment.

  • Printers do not show up in Page Setup Format for menu

    Hello. I just installed Acrobat 9 Professional. Upgrade from AP7. For some reason, when I go to select the printer in the Page Setup> Format For> dropdown menu, the printers do not show up. When I try to make a pre-set for this printer it never works and always defaults back to Language Level 3, which gives me a postscript error when I try to print. It prints fine at Language Level 2 but I can't get the setting to stay. Any clues???
    thank you in advance,
    Randy

    Geraldine,
    There are some oddities in Pages' methods.
    What you did was save the changed template which had been altered on the page but you also needed to "capture" and save the Layout or Section over the existing one in the document using the same name to replace it.
    I will walk you through making your own version of a template.
    1 Open a new document using the template you wish to customise.
    2 Don't change anything yet, but open every section from the Sections pull down menu so you have a sequence of pages each with a page of a different section design.
    3 Make Master Objects selectable if they are not.
Change each Section to your liking.
    4 +Menu > View > Page Thumbnails+
    5 Select first Thumbnail in sidebar
+Menu > Format > Advanced > Capture Pages… > Name : Type exactly the same name as the section > It will ask you if you want to replace the existing section > Replace+
    6 Repeat this for each section until you have replaced them all.
    7 +Menu > File > Save as Template… > Save with a New Name+
    8 +Menu > File > New from Templates > My Templates > Choose your New Name template+
    You now have a document customised to your design.
