Printhead problem

I have a photosmart b109a. i haven't used it for about a month but the ink was needing replaced. i switched on, all fine. i changed the ink then i got a message on the printer saying to remove ink, then printhead, then replace. i did nothing happened the computer says the printhead is either damaged or missing. how can it be damaged? i haven't touched it. i have already changed the black awhile back and all was fine.
please help.

It may be a false error message, or it may just be that when you replaced the ink that the printhead got jostled.
Try unpluging the printer and powering back on with the cartridges and printhead out.  If that doesn't resolve the issue try this document

  • HP Photosmart Premium C310 Series.......Printhead Problem

I have the HP Photosmart Premium C310 Series Printer. It will no longer print. There is an error message of "Printhead Problem", with the instructions of:  Remove all Cartridges. Next, left black latch and remove printhead. Then re-install Printhead and Cartridges. I have done this several times with no success. Even went out and bought all new ink cartridges and tried those as well with no success. With this error message on the printer screen, it won't let me get off of that screen.

Hi annie47here, and thanks for the reply.
After reviewing the issue, it's possible you are experiencing printhead failures.  The best recommendation I could make would be to contact HP directly.  You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide.

  • Printhead Problem....I could really use your help. (Thank you!)

Thank you to anyone who might help me.....
I have been a loyal HP customer for a long time, but this printer (Photosmart Premium c310a) has been a problem from the beginning.  I am a painter who depends on crisp, clear prints.
Now the error message on the printer is Printhead Problem.
I have gone to the website and repeatedly cleaned the printhead, unplugged the printer and waited.....and still Printhead Problem.
It is suggested that I buy a new Printhead, but my experience over the years is that, if I go out and buy it, it won't solve the problem.  And I have invested a lot in ink cartridges for this model, so I'm not inclined to just junk the printer.
I would really, really appreciate help.  Thank you.....
    Richard

    Hello rheyster,
You are correct in stating that it could be an issue with the printhead. And Printhead needs to be replaced.
However the only best option i think would be to trade-in this printer for a different model.
If you are in USA, please call HP Tech Support. Tech support may provide a Trade-in option.
Please call HP Tech Support for further assistance.

  • How to resolve a printhead problem on a HP Officejet Pro 6835 printer

I replaced the black printer cartridge and now I am getting a message saying there is a printhead problem.  Went on line and followed all the suggested fixes, ran the Print and Scan Doctor, still not working.  Any suggestions?

    scarlattid3,
The cancel button should be located in the bottom right corner of the screen. The only thing is it's not going to show up until you start the print job or copy and then it should appear for you.
Let us know if you are able to find this.
If I helped you at all it would be great if you clicked the blue kudos star!

  • 'Printhead Problem' on week-old HP Officejet Pro 6830

I purchased a HP Officejet Pro 6830 for around $130 only a week ago to be used at home for my study requirements. I was anticipating that this printer would be reliable and, for the price tag, last me a little over a week..
Unfortunately 7 days after purchasing, my printer has displayed the message 'There is a problem with the printhead 0xc19a0023'.
With very little instruction on how to solve such an issue I have spent hours searching online forums, the HP website and beyond. I have turned off my printer, 'reset' it, attempted to clean the printheads all to no avail and resulting in a colossal waste of time. Unfortunately your call centre is also closed so I am stuck without a way of printing my resources for tomorrow.
What can I do to solve this problem?

    @Sarah204, Welcome to the forums!
I read your post about the error code "0xc19a0023" you are receiving, along with the message that there is a problem with the printhead. To be frank with you, the troubleshooting steps you have tried for this type of issue have been all completed. I would next suggest trying to call HP's Technical Support directly again to let them know about the error code and the steps you have tried, and they will most likely issue a replacement printer.

  • Officejet Pro L7780 Printhead Problem

My printer is 2.5 years old and has light home use.  The printheads started failing...I had to run "clean printheads" before attempting to print anything.  HP Solutions said "Printheads OK."  Still, the printer was unusable.
I bought 2 new printheads, cleaned the printhead contacts in the printer, installed the printheads.  Now the printer won't do anything and HP Solutions says printhead health is "bad," and the display window on the printer says both printheads have a problem.
I re-inserted the old printheads and the "problem" messages disappeared, HP Solutions says printhead health is "good," but the printer won't print.
I've done every solution suggested on user forums.
I've done a full factory reset and flashed new firmware.  No help.  Anyone had a similar problem and been able to solve it?
    Thanks.

Sorry you're having trouble with your L7780. HP doesn't recommend routinely cleaning the electrical contacts before you install new printheads. I'm worried that you might have transfered some ink onto the contacts, since your problem changed from a print quality problem to a error message. I would suggest that you try cleaning the electrical contacts one more time. Try the instructions in this document: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01628836&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc... - make sure you let everything dry completely before you reinstall the printheads.
Also, for print quality issues, this is the HP support doc http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01957673&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc...

  • Printhead problem on L7680

We have two of these All In Ones and had "patchy" black printing on one even after repeated head cleaning so we decided to use the Black/Yellow printhead from our "good" printer in the "patchy" one. When we did this, the "patchy" printer said "The following printhead(s) has a problem - black/yellow[K/Y] . We then re-inserted the printhead in the "good" printer only to see the same error so now we have two non-functioning printers.
We have followed all the advice on cleaning the printhead contacts and the contacts in the printer, done a reset, powered down etc. As both machines had been working, we can only guess that as both printheads were past their warranty date (but still showing "fair" prior to this problem) that the printer will not allow a printhead to be used that is past the warranty expired date.
Can anybody confirm this as we don't feel inclined to buy two new printheads only to find that the actual printers have developed faults of some kind and we would be wasting our money. The error message and HP help pages could be a lot more helpful.
It is particularly annoying that the error message cannot be dismissed and thus prevents any scanning to network or faxing.
    Any info much appreciated.

(I know the original post is nearly four months old, but I'm going to reply anyway.)
The fact that a problem in the printing mechanism effectively locks out all the other functions of the all-in-one is way beyond "particularly annoying."  All HP all-in-ones have this designed-in stupidity.  I don't know about non-HP all-in-ones.
As for the two nonfunctioning printers as a result of your printhead troubleshooting:  I wouldn't blame it on your swapping printheads that were past their warranty date.  Our OfficeJet Pro 7780 stopped printing yellow.  We replaced the yellow cartridge.  It didn't help.  We plunked down $70 for a black/yellow printhead, and it worked for about 50 pages, then it started giving us the same error message you saw.  We dug the old printhead out of the trash and re-installed it, and the AIO the same error message.
Rather than spend another $70 on another printhead, we're going to go buy a non-HP AIO tonight.  You can get a pretty good non-HP all-in-one for the price of two HP printheads, and you can get a highly rated non-HP AIO for the price of three or four printheads.  Don't waste any more money on HP.

  • Printhead problem, L7580

My mother has the L7580 all-in-one.  She uses it basically as a photocopy machine.
Yesterday afternoon she got the printhead error message for the C/M head.  I've had this before with my L7590, and I was able to clean the printhead without difficulty.
The problem I'm having is that the error message will *not* go away.  I've held the OK button for the 5 seconds, powered up/down, unplugged, etc.  So I can't actually get to the point where I can print a test page or re-align the printheads.
Any suggestions for how to proceed?

  • Printhead Problem Error

    Hello,
I have an HP 8500 a909g all in one or 8500ag im not sure but it has a touch screen on it and when I turn it on I get the error message the following printhead has a problem Black/Yellow (k/Y)
I tried power resets, pulled the printhead out cleaned the contacts, and even soaked the jets in alcohol solution overnight to clean it. In the morning the alcohol solution was black and yellow so something must have came out of there. I blotted it dry and even saw black and yellow on the paper towel. Plugged it back in did a power reset and still get the same error message.
I saw there is a firmware update but when I can't download it because I would need to do it wireless but i can't hook it up to my network because I cant bypass the Error message that automatically pops up.
Is there a way to bypass that error message so I can access the main menue on the touch screen?

    Hello,
The solution to this issue is to replace the Printhead "Black/Yellow"

So please tell me  do i need to purchase a new black cartidge, will it work? or what shoud i do ?

    Thanks
    Nirmal

    Hi @nirmal007,
Welcome to the HP Support Forum!  I understand you're having cartridge issues with your HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 5525 e-All-in-One Printer.  I would like to assist you with clearing up that error state and have some troubleshooting steps that may resolve the issue.
I recommend you try the following steps before you consider purchasing a new black ink cartridge.  Firstly after you've confirmed that your ink levels are not the problem (example - the level is above 10%), try a 'hard reset':
    Secondly:
Make sure that the ink cartridges are properly vented and seated correctly
If the vent on the top of the ink cartridge is clogged or obstructed, the ink cartridge might not work properly. Follow these steps to make sure that the ink cartridges are properly vented and seated correctly.
Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already turned on. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before continuing.
Open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the access area.
Figure : Open the cartridge access door
Press the tab on the front of the cartridge inward to release it, and then pull up on the cartridge to remove it from the slot.
Figure : Remove the cartridge from the slot
Examine the vent area on each cartridge, above the HP logo on the top of the cartridge.
Figure : Vent area on the top of the cartridge
If the cartridge still has the orange pull-tab attached, pull to remove it.
    Figure : Orange pull tab
If the vent is clogged, use a straight pin to gently remove excess adhesive from the vent.
Figure : Clean the clogged vent with a pin
    Clogged vent
With a straight pin, gently remove excess adhesive from the vent
    Unclogged vent
With the nozzle and contacts facing down, slide the cartridge into its slot. Press down on the cartridge until it clicks into place.
note:Make sure that each cartridge is installed in the correct slot. Match the shape of the icon and the color of the cartridge with the slot that has the same shaped icon and color.
    Figure : Reinsert the cartridge
Repeat these steps to inspect the vents on each of the cartridges.
Make sure that each cartridge is firmly in place in its slot. Run your finger along the top of the cartridges to feel for any that are protruding, and if any are, press down firmly until each cartridge snaps into place.
    Close the cartridge access door.
Figure : Close the cartridge access door
    Source
Thirdly, try cleaning your cartridge contacts:
Manually cleaning the print cartridge contacts
Follow the steps below to manually clean the print cartridge contacts:
Gather the following items to clean the contacts:
Distilled water (tap water may contain contaminants that can damage the print cartridge)
Cotton swabs or other soft, lint-free material that will not stick to the print cartridge
    Open the print cartridge door.
Remove the print cartridge and place it on a piece of paper with the ink nozzle plate facing up.
     caution:
Do not to touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzle plate with your fingersFigure : Do not touch copper-colored contacts
caution:Do not leave the print cartridge outside the printer for more than 30 minutes. Ink nozzles exposed to the air longer than this may dry out and cause printing problems.
Lightly moisten a cotton swab with distilled water and squeeze any excess water from the swab.
Gently wipe the copper-colored contacts with the cotton swab.
caution:Do not touch the ink nozzle plate. Touching the ink nozzle plate will result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until no ink residue or dust appears on a clean swab.
Insert the print cartridge in the printer, and then close the print cartridge door.
    Source
If you've tried all of the above noted steps and you're still unable to use the black cartridge, you may need to pick up a new one.  Let me know if this helps.  Best of luck!

  • Photosmart Plus B209 Printhead Problems

I have the above printer, just over a year old.  My ink was low, so I replaced it, it printed the alignment page, moved it up and scanned it, then it went to " The printhead installed is not intended for this printer or it may be damaged".
I followed instructions for cleaning the specified areas- no luck. Unplugged it for 10 minutes and turned it back on- no luck. cleaned one more time- I Quit.
        Does anyone have a solution?
        Cost of a printhead?

I would start by removing the ink cartridges, then remove the printhead and clean the gold contacts on the printhead and in the printer with a damp lint free tissue.

  • HP Officejet 8500 A909G Printheads Problem

The other night I turned off my printer and moved it to another room while I rearranged the furniture.  When I plugged it back in and turned it on I received the error message:  "The following printhead has a problem:" and it lists both printheads.  As far as I know I didnt hit the printer on anything or drop it so i dont think there is an alignment problem.  I searched the HP forums for some ideas and I did clean the printheads and did a power reset.  Still no luck.  I replaced both printheads a few months ago and the printer has worked great until the other day.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.
