Printing 6.5 x 9.5 problems on Brother MFC 8840D

In the Pages Page Setup, I have created a custom page size of 6.5 x 9.5 and formatted the document appropriately. But when I try to print it using the preset that I created, I get extra space at the top of the paper. Its as if it thinks it is printing on an 8.5 x 11 paper and is printing in the lower left corner of the paper. I have gone round and round on this and can't figure out the problem. I have even called Brother tech support and they say that if it is printing correctly on a 8.5 x11 page then it is not the printer driver and instead is the software application. Anyone have any ideas on what is going on here? Why is something so simple like wanting to print on a custom size paper so difficult?
Thanks
Steve

OK, I have saved as a PDF from Pages and opened it in Preview and printed it from there. Now I no longer have the extra space on top, but too much left marging and slightly skewed down towards the left. So this tells me that Pages is not talking correctly to the printer driver and now Preview is closer to what I want. But this seems like a longer workflow that it should be if I have to export from Pages everytime as a PDF and then print from Preview.

  • How do I set the FireFox browser to be compatible with my Brother MFC-8840D printer so it will translate color into grayscale when printing from a webpage?

Hi, I have a question about setting the FireFox browser so it is compatible with my Brother MFC-8840D printer to print in grayscale. Currently, if I print anything in color, like a Google Map, the colored parts of the map show up blank, whereas the color should change to grayscale in a black/white laser printer. Brother tech support told me to contact Mozilla about this issue.
In comparison, when I print a Google Map on my dad's HP printer (also using FireFox browser), the color map prints perfectly in grayscale, so I can see all of the street lines.

  • My printer is a fairly new all-in-one Brother MFC-7860 DW. It is not listed in the iPad AirPrint printers. Can I get it to work with my new iPad2?

My printer is a fairly new all-in-one Brother MFC-7860 DW. It is not listed in the iPad AirPrint printers. Can I get it to work with my new iPad2?

If it's not an Airprint enabled printer, you can not natively through your iPad.  BUT, there are apps you can purchase in the App Store, like Print Central ($9), which is what I use myself and works well for my needs.

  • Driver problem for Brother MFC-9560CDW

I just purchased a Brother MFC-9560CDW and I can't get any drivers to install.  I'm running OS X 10.8.5.  I have been putting off installing OS X Mavericks because of some of the negative reviews.  Not sure if this could be a solution.  Any assistance or information would be greatly appreciated.
    Chris

According to this Apple page, your printer is supported:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3669
Suggest you try connecting the printer and setting it up assuming the drivers are already installed.
Is this is a wireless connection you want to create?

  • I am unable to print color photos from i photo using a Brother Printer

I am unable to print color photos from i photo using a Brother MFC-6490CW all in one.  The photos appear to be in grayscale.  I have checked the printer settings, but for some reason I am not able to access the color management on my printer from printer set up.  It only gives me the standard option.  I have spent hours checking Bother's website and Apple's and I am not able to come up with a valid answer.  I know that the color print works.  If I print something from the internet of from outlook it will print in color.  I know all of my cartridges are in working order, I have cleaned the print head on my Brother, but I am still not able to print photos in color!!!
What puzzles me the most is why I am unable to really access the color management menu on my printer?  It just does not come up.  I have the option from paper handling to print photos, but this has nothing to do with the quality.  I have also tried printing the photo from an Adobe PDF file and I still have the same problem.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?  Thank you.

In the Print dialogue box click on the little triangle to the right of the name of the printer. That will expand the dialogue box.

  • Error message when printing from XP PC to Brother MFC-7420 over Express?

My G4 worked without a Hitch but I cannot seem to get my XP PC to print over my Airport Express network on a Brother MFC-7420 laser multi-funcion printer.
Has anyone been able to do this successfully?

I realize that - but this printer was designed to be used on a network, so you should use it that way. If you do that, I suspect you won't have any problems getting this printer to work from a PC using the setup software provided by Brother. You would also be able to make use of all its functions - rather than being limited to using it as a printer (no scanning ability) when connected via USB to the Base Station.

  • Brother MFC-295 CN printer

Greetings all, I am a fairly new person to Arch Linux, and I've been having some troubles with my printer, which, as the title indicates is a Brother MFC-295CN.  I followed the instructions from the wiki to install CUPS, and then the instructions for installing the Brother MFC-440CN, using the drivers from Brother's website for my printer.    CUPS is working, and when I perform the Add Printer operation, it is able to locate the printer.  However, when I try to print a test page, I receive an error that the printer "lpd://blahlbah/blah"  cannot be found.  Looking for some help, thanks!

I have a Brother MFC-465CN and had the same problem as you. For some strange reason that lpd://address that CUPS find does not work. Instead, go back into the CUPS printer setup (Modify Printer) and choose the device "Appsocket/HP JetDirect" then click continue and set the Device URI to: "socket://192.168.0.10:9100" where you substitute "192.168.0.10" for the actual IP address of your printer on your network.
PS: you should set a static IP address for your printer using your router, do not use DHCP or it may occasionally change the printer's IP address.

  • How do i print using my ipad to my brother mfc-990cw

I have been trying to print from my ipad and ipod to my brother mfc-990cw but it does not let me cause it states that no airprint printers are found, also i have the brother iprint&scan app and it states that the machine and ios devise be on the same network. I do not understand what the ios devise is.

Correcct - your printer is not an AirPrint printer.  Here'a an AirPrint guide, including a list of the printers supported:
    AirPrint basics
So if you want to print to the printer you have, if it's possible at all, you might find a Brother printer utility in the iPad's app store.

I, like the person in link, also ripped DCP7040.ppd and brlpdwrapperDCP7040 from $pkgdir/usr/local/Brother/cupswrapper/cupswrapperDCP7040-2.0.2, and I followed the advice on that thread, but still get the same error messages.
Since I'm trying to connect to a remote printer on a Windows computer via samba, the problem might also lay within that. I've noticed that whenever I try to add the printer from the system-config-printer dialog  and try the SAMBA option, sometimes my wireless adapter shuts down altogether, forcing me to restart, but that may be irrelevant.
Can anyone help me find out what's wrong? I may be too much of a novice to understand what's going on.

Is it 32 or 64-bit. If it is 64-bit, the print driver for AA7 does not work on that system. You can install AA7 except for the printer for a 64-bit system. In that case, you will have to install another PS printer (like the HP 4500 PS) with the port as File:. I also suggest you change the name to be the Adobe PDF printer that you are substituting for. You then print to file and open the file in Distiller to complete the PDF creation (watched folders are also possible from Distiller to automate the process somewhat). You have to provide a folder as well as the file name when you print, such as "C:\adobeapps\test.ps." Then run test.ps through Distiller. You will have to follow the extra steps to create PDFs with AA7.

  • Dark prints using CS5 & Epson R2400 ongoing problem, now new PC and magenta cast

Have tried every combination of set up in trying to solve problem. Had One Eye (now defunct lamp) various experts etc etc but compensated for dark prints by having screen lightened to bizarre point. Now having a new PC am faced with massive magenta cast. I really don't want to buy a new printer but have had the dark print problem since I got it. Have spoken to Adobe and Epson at length but eventually washed their hands. I feel it is something to do within the computer set up or Photoshop - don't think its printer problem. All drivers updated regularly. Thought it could be monitor problem but don't really think this is the case.
Any ideas welcome as I think I have tried everything. Use Windows 7.
Am retired and not very technically minded!  Serious amateur photographer.

I have an Epson 1280 printer, and I have the same problem with prints. Part of the problem are the different color profiles in the monitor and the printer. The other problem to deal with is the type of photo paper used. While looking at web sites, I found that the ICC Color Profiles for the printer are on the install disc and are not automatically installed. One of the links describes which folder to install the profiles on both Mac & Windows computers.
As station_two wrote, calibrate your monitor first.
Below is a link about calibrating.

I do not have an exact answer for you because I have not figured it out myself, but here is what I have been doing on my prints. I might recommend that you work on a copy of the original.
In the Layer floating window, create a New Adjustment Layer by clicking on the half black/half white circle, and choose Hue/Saturation or Color Balance or Selective Color. Because the prints come out too red, you want to increase the green sliders, which is the opposite of red, and/or decrease the red. (Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Color Balance) is another way to do it.
Under the menu item Image>Adjust Levels. Move the center triangle at the bottom to lighten the mid-range, or use the center dialog box and change it to 1.20 or 1.30, for example.
Now press Print with Preview (but you really are not going to print).
When the dialog box comes up, make sure the Print Space: dropdown is set to Epson Paper or whatever you are using.
I have been using Relative Colorimetric. Press Print. Another dialog box will come up. At the bottom will be a button for Preview, which will generate a preview of what the photo will look like if printed.
Keep going back to the original and double click on the Adjustment Layer and adjusting it until the Print Preview looks ok.
Be sure when you actually print that the paper and color settings in the Epson dialog box match your settings in Photoshop. There is a dropdown that has Print Settings or Color. Often they don't match unless you print several photos in a row. I have found printing at the lower settings (less than 360 dpi) also messes up the color.
It is not an excellent solution, but until I can figure out more, I am in the same boat as you.
I'd suggest saving the lightening and color adjustments as two different Actions.

  • Printing problem, can't connect to Brother MFC-7420 and HP DJ130

I recently performed the 10.5.4 upgrade. I believe the problem I am having started then. When I try to print something to my Brother MFC-7420 I get a Printing Page 1, 24% completed message and it never finishes. I am also having issues with my Designjet 130. Both are connected with a USB cord and I have tried the usual powering off, connecting/disconnecting and removing/adding to printer control panel. My Epson printer connects and prints normal. Any suggestions?

Similar problem being experienced here. My Brother MFC 7420 was working fine one day and is lost to my system the next. Any attempt to print just stalls with a message like "Printing 25%" or some such figure.
I've tried uninstalling the driver, updating the latest driver from Brother, updating the Brother driver from Apple, switched USB cables, and finally talked to a helpful Brother phone support technician who got me to try to re-install from the Leopard DVD. When I open the Optional Installs and open Printer Drivers, the Brother drivers are greyed out. He said it was an Apple problem, and thats where I'm at right now.
The G4 is one year out of its 3 year Protection Plan so I presume I'll get no help from Apple.Given the number of posts dealing with this problem, it does seem to be related to the 10.5.4 upgrade but I've not heard anything constructive from Apple on this issue. Anyone got any ideas?

  • Problems printing with Brother MFC-240C and HP 810C

(iMac 20inch 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) I just got a Brother MFC-240C Printer/Scanner/Fax and followed the steps to set it up but my colors are all off. In illustrator Green comes out like mud but orange comes out fine. From Photoshop the Green comes out lighter. I’ve checked the User’s Guide and it has nothing for this problem. I’m also going to check their website’s support section but I believe it’s my computer that’s not working correctly. Before my Brother MFC-240C I had a HP 810C what worked fine until I got the new iMac 20inch 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with Tiger and I had printer problems from that point on.
    Please can anyone help?

I tried the ColorSync first aid and this is what I got,

    Hello:
I must apologize  .  I should have checked here first:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#HP
According to the list, there is no driver for your printer included in OS X 10.7.
There are a couple of options:
    1.  Contact HP to see if they have a workaround.
    2. If the model of printer is not listed but your printer is a PostScript printer or PCL Laser printer, try the "Generic PostScript" or "PCL Laser printer" drivers.  Generic printer drivers may not let you access all the features of your printer.
I have not tried #2, but some people have had success.
