Printing a Brochure

I'm getting ready to send my brochure to the printers, and they are telling me that I need at least a .25" border and a .125" bleed around the edges to ensure uniform printing. Can someone explain this to me and what I need to do in my brochure to ensure that I have this spacing? I don't want to pay any additional setup fees. One side of my brochure is all black, and the other is all white with text and pictures.
I've tried to follow the rulers at the top and the bottom to align my text and/or images, but the guide does not have an arrow to follow like Pagemaker, so its a bit difficult to align to the size that I need. I'm also having a problem finding out where to set the default margins on my page to accomodate for the proper spacing/bleed.
Thanks for the help!

hi, I'm a graphic designer and send a stack of pdfs to printers... bleed is where the printed items 'bleed off' the page edges, such as a large image or coloured panel etc. The amount needed is so that when the printer trims the paper, there's enough 'extra print' - ie the bleed, so that if the trimmer moves a bit, you still get your bled image off the edges as desired.
A border usually means that this is the area inside the edge of the page where the trimmer might get chopped off - so text and things like that need to be inside - so they don't get chopped off.
The black side will need bleed, the white side not. As they are back to back, the whole document now needs bleed.
Pages isn't anywhere near as high-end (ie trims and bleeds etc) print friendly as say Indesign which does all these things, but looking at it just now, it is possible, but quite fiddly.
Go to the page icon, click on inspector, click on page setup button. Scroll to bottom to 'manage custom sizes'. Here you can add your bleed amount to your page. That is, create a new page size that incorporates the bleed measurements. Click the + button, name it, then change the page size to what you need - add .125 x 2 to width, and .125 x2 to height. You can also enter the border as a printer margin here as well for the white side.
Then go back to page setup and select this larger page size that you just created and named. When you go back to your document, it has moved to top left and the extra space added to right and bottom. Add guides - ie .125 each side and both top and bottom. Move the items on the page within this. You now need to stretch the black background to fill the larger page size - you have added the bleed for the black! Check anything else that may need adjusting - a large pic etc
Once everything is where it should be, do the same to the white side - except nothing bleeds off here, it just needs positioning correctly. Fiddly, but possible.
(These things can all be set automatically in InDesign)
good luck and please let me know if that works for you

Internet Explorer,  Firefox , Opera and Google Chrome are Browsers. Yahoo and Google, unless you are referring to Google Chrome are not browsers. The browser is what you need to change. there are three images below of three different browsers. You are probably using Internet Explorer. Switch to another browser for a test print.

Do you understand the term browser as an interface? It is a graphical user interface through which you connect to MSN and Yahoo to browse the internet.

  • How to print a brochure in pages?

I created a brochure in pages using a template and when I try to print it, a big white margin in the right hand is created.
Can someone help me to create the real final print format for my brochure?

Pages '09 is the better option and yes it can do a (3 fold?) brochure.
Pages 5 is missing most of the requirements of good DTP, like linked textboxes.
There is quite a range of software available for producing such material. If you need to send it to a commercail Offset Printer, you really need Pro software such as Indesign and Quark Xpress, which are expensive but complete.
All the other cheaper alternatives lack the full features you need for quality work:

But given a great deal of effort, experience and sometimes luck, you can make do with some of the amateur apps.

  • Printing a Brochure problem

    Hello,
I am trying to make a brochure using Page's brochure templet. I managed to make a very nice one (first Time). However I am having a terrible time printing it. I Have an eMac with 10.4.6 installed, HP Business Inkjet 1200 and I am using Pages 06' version. The problem is I have no control over the margins and I have tried page set up with no luck. The printer is cutting off the right side of the brochure. I have tried to make it a PDF and print it that way but I am experiencing printing problems there also. The PDF will not print both pages or multiple pages of the Brochure and the margins are screwed up as well. I can print other PDF documents just fine.
I have tried printing out other templets with success in Pages, however both the Brochure templets tht Pages provide do not print correctly. This leads me to believe it is a page's templet problem. I need some help!
    Thanks
    Mat

Hi. I’m using Pages 2.0 with Mac OS X 10.4.6. Tried to print the Classic Brochure on an HP Deskjet 940C and an HP psc 1210xi. Am having the exact same problem as Matt Y mentioned. The printer is cutting off the right side of the brochure.
I’ve tried everything I know to get this to print correctly, including saving as a PDF. Strangely enough, the right side of the brochure is cut off when I print from PDF as well! First time I’ve seen that happen.
I should mention that the brochure looks perfectly fine in print preview, both in Pages and in the PDF.
I should also mention that the comments were hidden.
I tried scaling the brochure down from 100%, but this just makes all the text in the brochure completely out of alignment and spread out everywhere.
I do not have this option: “Choose your Paper Size; Select US Letter Borderless.” So, I’ve created a custom Print setup using US Letter with 0.00” border left and right. Still cuts off right side of brochure (no change).
Can’t find anything to do with “Set the "Amount of extension" or stretching in your borderless option to the minimum.”
Any other suggestions, help, or patches to fix Pages software, would be appreciated!

  • Lose transparency when printing a brochure on publisher

    Hi Guys,
I have designed a brochure for my company in which i have used publisher and have used such designs in which i use fill effects and increase the transparency in order for a picture in the background should show through. on the screen in looks really good
however when i print it i lose the transparency, how can i avoid this?
    any help is appreciated,
    Joe

    Hi
The object uses a transparentcolor for a line or fill. When you print to a PostScript or PCL printer, you may see the object olsing its transparency. You can print the transparency as it appears on
the screen to a color inkjet printer, and the transparency will be displayed correctly when you publish the publication as a Web site or send it as an e-mail message.
For detailed information refer to the article below:

  • Printing PDF brochure from Preview and only graphics print, no text

Spent 30 minutes on the phone with Lexmark. They said with Windows, you would select "Print as Image" under the advanced printing dialogue. I don't see anything like this in MacOS. If I save the PDF as a PNG, then open the PNG in Preview, it prints fine.

I also had this "no text"-problem with a Lexmark C530dn when printing some PDFs from Preview on 10.5.2. The problematic PDFs all were datasheets and papers I downloaded from sources like SAP. I installed the newest version (2.0) of the C530 printer driver, but it did not help.
Using "Generic Postscript Printer" works, but I loose duplex printing, for example. But printing the documents from Adobe Reader 8.1.2 works, too, and I can use the Lexmark driver and have duplex printing etc.

  • I'm trying to print a brochure but it is upside down on one side

    question above

If your printer does duplex printing you may have a setting in the print diallog. Your best option for finding the answer is likely in the printer documentation, either a paper or online manual. My Brother color laser does duplex & I don't have to change anything.

  • Printing matterial brochure on-demand while delivery in selected language

    Hi,
We have a requirement in our Distribustion Center (Warehouse). They want to have possibility on selected documents printed automatically during pick/pack.
The scenario is to store product/spareparts document in multiple language in document management server. and when creating pick list in SAP, system should look for any materials in the delivery document which has such stored document and print the document in relevant language.
Also, this printing should happen automatically in the background without having to manually open the document and print.
I think the first part we can achieve using SAP DMS solution and storing document via material master (MM02).
But, we are wondering if anyone came across such requirement ? and how eventually solved it ? Is it possible in standard SAP or some minor development ? Also if any third party product exist as out-of-the-box ?
    Any input, most appreciated.
    Thank you with kind regards...

  • Weird print job (brochure on web)

    Here's a challenge...
I discovered a "how to" installation flyer in PDF format on the web.
The web-page it is found is here...
    http://www.jameshardie.com/backerboard/homeowner/hardibacker_installation.php
The actual PDF URL is here...
    http://www.jameshardie.com/pdf/backer-install-new.pdf
The page size for this PDF is very unusual. Each page of the 2-page document is like 2-3 Letter-size pages put together, side-by-side.
Is there any way to tile this so it will print out at a readable size?

That was actually it, the images from the top pages/history. I'm a little paranoid with safety, so I got worried when I saw these images with my personal information (address an stuff).
If there is a way to make Safari stop taking these pics, please let me know..

  • How to Print A4 from Brochure Template

    Hi all,
First time using Pages so hope my question is not too dumb.
I have used the Brochure template to create a brochure for my company. However when you look at a PDF version of it the first page is the front and back pages of the brochure and the second page is the 2 inside pages of the brochure, which can be confusing for someone receiving it by email.
How can I print the brochure into 4 pages (as a PDF) and not 2 as it is laid out. During editing I can see the "fold line" down the middle of the brochure which is great but i wayt to be able to print seprately either side of the fold line.
    Appreciate any help.
    Thanks

    Hi Jason,
The template is for a 'single fold' brochure, using a single sheet of paper, printed on both sides. Changing this to a four page email version is doable, but a bit tedious. You do have one advantage over a North American user trying to do the same thing—your next smaller page, A5 has the same aspect ratio as the current A4, so you won't have as much fiddling to do to make the copy and illustrations fit in the right places.
Here's the process I went through, using the "Local Caterer" template. (Mine starts out as US Letter size, so there are some proportion issues that I ignored as I wasn't going to save the finished piece.
    The New document
Open a new Blank Page layout template.
Go File > Page Setup, and set the Paper size to A5
Use the +Pages button to add three Blank pages to the document.
    The Original document
    Open the Brochure document.
Set the view scale to a size where you can see all of one 'page' (eg. the front cover) in the document window.
In the View menu (or the View button) choose Show layout.
The elements of each page are a set of graphic objects and text boxes containing all of the text. On this template, each text box is independent (not linked to another text box). If yours contains linked text boxes, you may need to experiment and make some adjustments to the procedure.
    In the Old document:
Place the mouse pointer in the grey space between the A4 pages, and just to the right of the (vertical ) blue layout guide line.
Click and hold the mouse button and drag up and right across the front cover page unntil you get to the top right corner of the page.
Your result should resemble the image below:
    Copy.
    In the New document:
    Click on the first page.
    Paste
Use the mouse and/or the arrow keys to move the still selected objects into position.
Repeat for each of the other three pages.
    Save.
Option: You may want to Group (Arrange > Group) each pages objects before copying them.
If you are preparing other brochures, you may want to save the result as a template. See Chapter 13, Designing your own Document Templates in the Pages '09 User Guide for instructions and how to prepare the document for use as a template. You can download the guide through the Help menu in Pages '09.

  • Creating PDF brochure for printing: Remove white margin

    Hi guys,
I created a brochure in Idesign which has a black background color.
In order to print the brochure I want to create a PDF (with the right order of pages, e.g. page 1 next to page 8, 2 next to 7 etc.) via the "print function".
The page order is not a problem, but unfotunately I always get a white margin although there is no such in the original indesign document.
(When using the normal "export function" of Indesign there is no white margin, but then I cannot create a PDF with the right page order for printing...)
Has anyone an idea how to solve this?
Thanks for your help in advance!
    Best,
    Chris

In order to print with bleed you generally need to print onto a larger sheet and trim. I'm guessing you are trying to print this on a desktop printer of some sort, and unless specifically designed for "borderless" printing they always have a border along the edge that cannont be imaged.

  • Printing double sided brochures with InDesign

I'm trying to print my brochures double sided with InDesign but I'm really having a devil of a time doing it. The brochure is 8 pages long (each page is 5.5 x8.5 therefore two double-sided 8x11s).
The problem is that my printer does NOT print duplex, so I can't just leave it in there and let the printer do it.
I had hoped that I could print pages 1 & 8, then stick those pages into the printer upside down and print 2/7 on the other side.
Then i could repeat it for 3/6 and 4/5, but when I print out 1 & 8, it prints them on separate pages.
Anyone know who to format it so that I can print one piece of paper (with two pages on it) at one time?

    File > Print Booklet
Booklet Type > 2 up Saddle Stitch
From that Print Booklet dialog, click the Print Settings button (bottom the the Print Booklet dialog) and modify the Print dialog- you will probably have to select Orientation rotate.
Select ok from the  Print dialog, returning to the Print Booklet dialog.
In short, you jump between two dialog boxes, until the preview looks correct in Print Booklet. I would suggest setting the printer to Adobe PDF and printing from Acrobat.

  • Creating PDF brochure for printing: Black color adjustment

    Hi guys,
I created a brochure in Idesign which has a black background color and in addition also some pictures with black backgrounds.
In order to print the brochure I want to create a PDF (with the right order of pages, e.g. page 1 next to page 8, 2 next to 7 etc.) via the "print function".
The page order is not a problem, but the black background color is rather gray instead of black - so there is quite a difference between the black background color of the pictures and of the whole background.
(When using the normal "export function" of Indesign I know how to solve the color problem, but then I cannot create a PDF with the right page order for printing...)
Has anyone an idea how to solve this?
Thanks for your help in advance!

    Chris

Your images all use some form of Rich Black for the background, and that prints using all 4 CMYK inks. Your 100%K background will almost always seem gray next to that because it is, in fact, lighter. This will be true even if you use a profile conversion to make it also a 4-color black.
You can make your own rich black swatch and use it as the background (sample a few of the images to get some idea of a good mix), but in truth your images are still  probably not going to match all that well. Images tend to have color variations across the background, and your ID background is a flat color, so even a slight mismatch can cause the edges to be obvious. There can also be differences in color on some printers caused by differences in the way raster and vector content are processesd.
I prefer to embrace that, or at least admit it is going to happen, and either use a completely different color for the background so the mismatch always shows, and looks deliberate rather than like a mismatch, or I add a stroke to the image frames, often paper, to break the continuity and disguise the mismatch.
As far as imposing the file and exporting, there are a number of free scripts, and an actual plugin, IDimposer which is also currently free, that can impose your file for you before you export. You can learn more about the plugin at Overview | IDImposer

  • How do a print a PDF of a brochure that the printer can use to print from?

I have a brochure that is in color .... I want to print it in brochure format as a high quality pdf and then send it to the printer ... he will then use it to print the brochure.
    How do I do it?

From the File menu, choose Export. Choose PDF and the type of PDF you desire to create on that dialog box.
PDFX-1a and PDFX-4 are safe bets for your job. If your job has elements that bleed off the page, make sure you look at the section for printers marks, and that crop marks is set, along with any other options your printer specifies (like page info, color bars, etc).
    Take care, Mike
