Printing a .pdf in CMYK not working??

Hello!
I need to create a pdf of an advert that I am having printed in a magazine. The Ad is about 10cm X 10cm so can fit onto and A4. The magazine say they need it with full printer marks inlcuding density bars and registration marks.
As far as I can see, the only way to get these marks on a colour advert is to go to Advanced Print Settings > Separations > Output: Composite CMYK. Then go to Page Setting and check all the Printer Marks.
I then put the name of the printer as Adobe PDF (with property setting "Press Quality" preset chosen) and then click print. It seems to print but then nothing happens! It doesnt come up with a dialog box to chose a file name or anything, even though I have selected "Prompt for Adobe PDF filename".
If I do the exact same thing with composite greycale chose, or composite RGB chosen it works fine! Why wont composite CMYK work?
Any ideas?

I realise I wasnt very clear (probably because of my frustration!), but I am actually making the advert using Microsoft Publisher (not very hi-tech I know, I wish I could afford InDesign!).
I tried to add the printer marks using Acrobat X Pro after printing the .pdf from the publisher file, however the printer marks are not aligned with the advert, which sits in the middle of the A4 page. I tried to change the Crop Box to fit it, but it wasnt very accurate and was difficult to use.
I think the problem is to do my postscript options but I just dont understand it.
I dont understand why it is just the 'Composite CMYK' that it struggles with, and not any of the other options.
Any other ideas...?

Print to PDF 9.0 - NOT working QuarkXpress

I recently got a new iMac and also purchased the CS4 Design Premium Suite (including Acrobat 9.0) and QuarkXpress 8. I am having trouble "printing to PDF" in QuarkXpress. I tried printing to PDF in other programs, like Word, Excel, etc., and they all work fine. But when I try to create a PDF from Quark, no file appears. I am able to open the print dialog box while it's saving, and it all looks fine... the file pops up in the progress list, opens distiller, and disappears from the progress box. When I view the Completed Jobs, the file even shows up there. But when I go to the destination I chose when saving the PDF, nothing shows up. I tried typing my chosen file name in the search spot of my Finder, and no PDF of that name is located anywhere in my system.
I AM able to File > Export Layout as PDF, and the PDF shows up. But that is an annoying and slower method, and doesn't allow me to save my PDF presets of choice. Plus, it leaves a stupid .log file along with the pdf file that it creates, which clutters up my folders.
I just want to do want I've always done, which is Command+P, and choose "Adobe PDF" as my printer, and get a PDF.
Interestingly, I still have my old laptop, and I installed the new version of QuarkXpress on it, but kept the old CS3 applications (i.e. Acrobat 8.0). And I have no trouble printing to PDF on it. So the only differences are 1) the version of Adobe, and 2) the operating systems.... my new computer has Leopard, and the older laptop has Tiger.
I've tried uninstalling Adobe Acrobat and re-installing it from the disk. But no difference! PLEASE someone help!

Are you able to print the webpage to 'Adobe PDF' to convert it to pdf.
Which Browser version, OS version and Acrobat version are you using?

Print icon on toolbar does not work

Recently bought new computer running W7
Use acrobat to print postage labels on royal mail site
Have latest version of acrobat and when screen comes up showing label to be printed the 'floating' toobar appears but clicking on print icon has no effect
I am forced to used 'CTRL P' and then 'enter'
Occasionaly CTRL P gives me another toolbar at the top of the window which also has a print icon, this does nothing either
Can anyone suggest what is going wrong, should I go back to an earlier acrobat that worked fine on my old XP PC ?

Yes you are correct using a PDF in browser to print post labels.
Running Windows 7, Internet explorer 9, Acrobat Reader Version 10.0
CTRL P brings up dialog box OK and I can print from there.
Cannot comment if problem happens outside of browser as it is home
computer and do not have need to view PDF's offline but will find thsi
out if important.

My Time Capsule expired and no longer works. My printer (a HP) will now not work as it still wishes to connect through the Time Capsule. It will not allow itself be recognised through a USB connection to my Mac. Anyone got any ideas?

You will need to install the printer on your Mac
Open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock
Open Print & Fax
Click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list
Wait for your printer to appear in the next box, then click it to highlight it
Click Add at the lower right
Be sure to select the correct printer when you try to print as you will see your printer listed twice. Good idea to make the printer now installed on your Mac the default printer so you do not have to choose which printer to use each time you want to print.
You can also go into Print & Fax, select the printer associated with the Time Capsule and click the - (minus) button if you want to delete that location.

PDF Portfolio does not work with iOS Reader 11.3.2 on iOS 7.1.2

Well this is upsetting. I created a PDF form with several pages of the same form (it's a travel log).
My hoping to use Adobe Reader to complete the form and save back as a week at a time won't work.
I created the form using Acrobat Pro 9 from CS5.
Does anyone know if a PDF form in a Portfolio should work with Adobe Reader on the iPad2/
Also, what can I use that works with forms as a portfolio?

Pdf object postMessage not working in FF 22

Hi,
After updating my FF to 22, i seen pdf object postMessage function does not working. We used adbove livecycle intraactive pdf forms to collect the data from the user.
When user click the save button from the pdf, postMessage function called, but after update this not getting execute.
For your reference i include the URL which also had the same problem. I also tried without addons.

This is likely the fault of Livecycle Interactive. Most likely, Adobe has not yet provided an update for supporting Firefox 22. I would recommend informing adobe support about it.

The pdf security is not working in Flash Paper

Is anyone facing a similar problem.
The pdf security if applied with a passsword to select the

I have the same issue. My phone says the files are corrupt and they stay corrupt if I forward then from my phone. It like the phone checks for something in the PDF, when it never did before.

The printer page size setting is not working in Photoshop 5.1 with Xerox printer

I am attempting to print an output size larger than 8.5 x 11 and Photoshop will not change the size even though the printer setting is now at the larger size. Illustrator and other programs will print but but Photoshop fails. This is an issue in both the 32 and 64 bit versions. Help!

We have a Xerox WorkCentre 7435 PCL6, and I have been having a similar problem. I found a workaround in Photoshop CS5, which I will describe in case it is helpful to others. I just upgraded to Photoshop CS6 however, and the workaround no longer works with it. Instead I get an error message if I print a Job History Report. The message is partially cut off at the right margin of the page, but the part I can read says, "Completed with error(016-799): Print Instructi...on Fail detected in Decomposer." (The ellipsis indicates the part of the message that is cut off. What follows it appears on the next line down. I downloaded all updates to CS6 to see if that would help, but it did not.
Here is the workaround that worked for me on CS5:
1) Click on "Print Settings" in the Print dialog
2) On the pulldown Paper menu, select "Advanced Paper Selection"
3) Select the tray where your tabloid (or legal) sized paper is loaded
4) Click on the button at the right end of the "Paper Size" field to display the Paper Size dialog.
5) Click on the down arrow button at the right end of the "Original Document Size" field and select "Tabloid" (or "Legal") from the menu.
6) Click OK to close each of the open dialogs til you get back to the Print dialog and then print your document. The print preview should update to show you a preview reflecting the selected paper size. (This may take a few seconds to happen.)
This worked for me in CS5. Unfortunately, as noted above, it does not seem to work in CS6. The only workaround I can come up with for CS6 is to save the file as a PDF and then print it from Acrobat. This works without a problem, but it's a lot of trouble to go to every time I have to print something other than letter size.
If anyone finds a better workaround in CS6, please let me know.

Cannot print in Adobe 9 it will only print to file which does not work

I cannot print a PDF file that is in Adobe 9. It is not the file, I opened several other files and they all do the same thing. INstead of printing. When I click OK after choosing the printer, it goes into a print to file mode. The print to file always fails and then it will nto print. This morning it was working fine. Now it will not print. It may have installed an update to Adobe 9, I do not remember it being 9 before. I am in trouble if I cannot print tonight. Any ideas?

Printing To Knoica Minolta 7222 not working

I have two mac pros configured in a Microsoft small biz server network.
I have tried to add My Konica Minolta 7222 multi-function printer to the macs but wont work.
Using microsoft smb printing I get logon failure.
I have also tried lpd to the ip address of the printer (I installed the latest driver from konica minolta) I get some success this way in that I get about a dozen blank pages and two pages with random characters on it .
Can any one point me in the write direction

What I'm hearing you saying is that it works without Printopia, if the the printer is attached directly to the network, not the computer via USB. All my printers are attached via USB, so I need Printopia. Works fabulously. Printing to my iMac yields an almost instantaneous display in Adobe PDF reader on the iMac.

Printing a PDF in Captivate (not a certificate)

I hope you all can help me. I'm working on a CBT in Captivate 4 for a brief tutorial. At the end of the course I need the employee you print out a PDF file that they sign and turn in to their manager. The employees taking this course are not computer savvy at all so I want the PDF to print automatically or at the very least automatically bring up the print dialogue box like it does if you use the certificate widget.
I've figured out how to add a button that opens the PDF file, but I couldn't figure out how to get it to go straight to print. The trick is that I'm only working in Captivate and don't have Flash. Is this possible?

I almost repent having made it sound really simple. There are so many variables, such as how different browsers handle such events, client side security settings, javascript being disabled etc. It's a convoluted process and it's not guaranteed to work. I feel your pain but then again, If your audience cannot print a pdf file, maybe, they shouldn't ( I know I'm being acidic) . However, believing that good design should not stop at such hinderances, I can probably offer this: if you have Acrobat Standard (or Pro) you can provide simple instructions from within your pdf so that your learners can manage to print it.

Printing the document grid does not work

I got here a lot of master documents. The design is built with a squre document grid. I need to print or export it as PDF. But activating the checkbox does not work. Is it possible to print it? Ruler guides and the base grid are working. But I need to print the document grid.
Is there any possiblility to to this?

Printing the document grid is not an option, but you might be able to work around it by creating your own grid using Layout > Create Guides... then printing the visible guides.
I'd do that on a separate layer. If you want the grid, but not other guide, make a real grid with colored strokes using step and repeat, again on a separate layer.

You get out your printer manual and check if your printer will do this or not, if it does, then look up the codes that the printer requires to do that task. If it doesn't do it, then go buy a printer that does support it and look up the codes that the printer requires to do that task. Once you have the codes that are required to do that task, then check if there are any special signals (pin activations and etc) that need to be sent to enable that mode. If there are no special signals that are needed to enable that mode, then send the codes to the printer. If you need special signals, then your probably looking at a JNI module for your project to generate the special signals needed.

Link in pdf-file does not work on Ipad

With my site www.bartkuijer.nl I offer visitors the free possibility to see (and download) sheetmusic, from music written by me. These are pdf-files. But they can not only SEE the sheetmusic; the music on that pdf-files can also be PLAYED. That's done bij clicking on a link in that pdf-file to a mp3-file of the music on my site.
This works fine on a pc. When I try this on the Ipad of my wife it DOES NOT WORK!
So my question is: how come? And what to do to make this work also fine on an Ipad.
This is important for me, because I want this sheetmusic to place as Ipad-apps for free.

It works!
But not with a pdf-file. The Ipad does not recognize links in a pdf-file.
Te solution is found by making a htm-file with emdedding a quicktime-player and images of the music. This is my first Ipad product. On a pc the player starts immediately; on the Ipad it has to be started.
Now I have to work on a solution to change this to an app
