Printing A Report Causes The System To Reboot / Crash
Post Author: rhavlick
CA Forum: Crystal Reports
Hello,
I'm not even sure where to start on this one - I built a few reports in CR XI, and deployed them to the customer's machines. So far 2 out of the 10 at 2 seperate locations will have no problems displaying the report on the screen in the screen in the print preview control for .NET. However, when the user presses Print, and selects just their normal HP Laserjet 4240n printer, it actually goes to the blue screen of death, and then reboots. I upgraded to Crystal Reports 2008, and it's doing the same thing after installing the runtime on the user's machine. Next I tested on another computer at the same office, with the same results to the same printer. Next I tried to print to the Microsoft Office XPS Document Writer and that works from Crystal and then printing to the printer from that. I also tried exporting from Crystal to PDF, and then printing from that which works too. I updated drivers with the latest drivers, one is a HP and one is a Lexmark at 2 different not related locations. It appears to be report dependent since some other reports work.
Is there any way anyone knows how to trouble shoot this issue?
Thanks.

It's taken me about a month and $600 to purchase printers and return them, etc. to finally get this figured out. What is happening is if you have color on a report, and then print to a printer that doesn't support color printing it actually crashes the O.S. I can't recreate this on all B&W printers, it only appears to happen on some, even though they have the same drivers, etc.
I can strip out colors, and just leave it black white and grey and everything works on the one that was crashing. What I am wondering is if anyone knows of a way I can force CR to print in B&W on a printer that only supports B&W either when it's printing or when it's rendering the report? I do need the reports to be in color for the users with a color printer and it renders fine in color even if you don't have a color printer, but it blows up when you print. Does anyone know if this is possible or have any suggestions regarding this? Thanks.

Hello, Currently we are seeing this issue with a couple of our Lenovo T420s laptops with a Solid State Drive. ruffly about 10 or so. The Reboots happen randomly and do not create a dump file. We have contacted Lenovo and they are
not sure why its happening. Since this Crash I set it for Minidump this did not work my next steps will be to Disable Automatic restart on System Failure to see if it brings anything up. I am also looking at using Procmon to dump to a file as well.
If anyone has any other ideas please let me know.
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Thank you.We have tested and checked both the Bios and firmware of the SSD Drive's
Bios was up to date and no issue
Firmware was also up to date as well.
Users are still experiencing random Reboots. I tried to capture the issue with Procmon but since the PC shutdown (Goes to a black screen no power at all even when turning the "Automatically
restart" off under Startup and Recovery) No dmp files as of yet. Unable to configure Procdump due to not knowing where the issue is and what is causing it to happen.
Going to replace one of the PC's with a New one with different hardware to see if this resolve the issue. If anyone has any idea's to be able to capture what maybe happening that would
be great.
Thank you. -

Schedule a report with the system date imbeded in the file name
Hello,
Could anyone tell me how I can schedule a crystal report with the system date imbedded in the file name (FileNameYYYYMMDD) through BOE? When I scheduled the report through BOE, I gave a file name and selected Attach Date Time, but the file name is coming out slightly differently and with the time imbedded as well (FileNameYYYY-MM-DD-HH-MN I think). Is there a way to change the default system date time format in BOE so that the date stamp comes out the way we want it?
Thanks!%SI_STARTTIME% will add the time the report ran too.
Adding onlt the date will necessarily have to be done via the appropriate SDK. -

You could repair disk and permissions, but I suspect a corrupt OS X. I would reinstall the operating system.

Why does printing a PDF cause the CrashReporter to go into a loop?
Saving a file as a PDF from any print dialogue causes the CrashReporter to take all CPU cycles. Seems related to the Image Capture Extension. Anyone else seeing this issue? This just started happening post Mountain Lion update.
It doesn't seem to matter which printer I select; physical Lexmark printer in my case, or render as PDF. Same result. I have inlcuded a report below. If I quit the app that started the process it appears to end the loop and the CrashReporter stops.
I have deleted my Lexmark printer from my system to see if that would resolve anything but no change.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. It is this Image Capture Extension that keep looping.

Printing TIFF files hangs the system, is there a workaround?
When printing large tiff files (e.g., exported layout images from CAD) the system becomes unresponsive and it takes time to print. Even after the image is printed, the system works very slowly.
It seems to be a bug, or is there any workaround to prevent the system to hang?
Thank you, JanThere are two similar bugs:
The LPC+crop bug started with ACR 6.1 and was fixed in 8.2.
The LPC mystery bug started with ACR 7.3 and was fixed in 8.6.
Both bugs cause repeated thumbnail extractions in Bridge on some images with Lens Profile Corrections enabled.
As you are on ACR 6.7 it can only be the first bug. The only workaround I know is to ensure that the crop does not touch the edge of the corrected image. A few pixels gap will do it. Also, it helps to keep less images in a folder--but this can't be avoided when using Collections or Finds.
I'd imagine that Adobe won't fix CS5 just for this. Presumably there's something in the smallprint which admonishes them from responsibility after the shelf life of the product ends. To be fair, it's not like they fixed it straight away in CS6, unlike the Bridge CS5 database bug (thanks, Adobe). They were only able to reproduce the fault in summer 2013. -
Why is my report causing the server to crash?
When I run the report in developer it runs fine but when the webserver runs the report the webserver crashes.
I've checked all my fonts to make sure I'm not using a font the server doesn't have. I'm using Arial so I know that's not the problem.
Can someone tell me what the problem could be?Brian,
Hard to tell you what the problem is based on the information given. Depending on the version of reports,
in 6i, the builder does not run through the server, but in 9i, all reports run through the server.I am running 6i. That would help explain why my builder works fine but the server doesn't.
You need
to try several reports to determine if it only happens with certain reports or all reports. Try creating a simple
default report and deploy it on the server and see if you get the same results. This server runs around 100 reports, most of which I've authored. Only a few reports seem to be causing this problem. I've only found one so far.
Also, you need to determine
if the web server or the reports server is crashing and what the error message your getting. This could
range from something as simple as a configuration change, maybe no temporary disk storage available or a
corrupt installation. Normally a font not available will substitute fonts or return an error message. When running the report through the browser the page just hangs. The server brings up an error message though:
rwrun60.exe exception: access violation (0xc0000005), address 0x6c627772
Also, depending
on the format your creating. PDF has some unique characteristics over say generating html. Suggest gathering
this information and posting another question or contacting Oracle Support for further help - make sure you also
identify which operating system you are using. All of my reports are generated in htmlcss.
The operating system is NT 4 Service Pack 6a.
Patchset 9 is loaded. All environment variable have been checked in the registry as well. -
Every time that I try to print a page from the internet, My Mac (Maverick 10.9.4) crashes and I see a "Crash Reporter" icon. Any suggestions?
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful. -

NistPSHi,
See the [Rules of Engagement|https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/HOME/Rules%20of%20Engagement]
What version of Crystal Reports are you using?
Visual studio version you have?
Have you applied any servcie pack?
Is this on your development computer or on a deployed computer?
If on a deployed system, how was the CR runtime installed to that system?

NidhinYour RMI server invokes a JNI method as you mentioned. It seems your system resource is become very low as from the exception from "ZoneInfoMappi"
(Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service...I would suggest the following
1- remove the JNI method invocation and replace by a simple method which does nothing special ( counting etc..)
2- Run the RMI sever and stress test it again
If you see the RMI server is working well after 12 hours, then your native method is leaking i.e consuming the system resources ( RAM etc..)
You should profile the running RMI server using jconsole

JavaScript Printed After Reports Causing IE GUI Delays
I am seeing the following code output after a report region. I assume this is output when a page has a report that has a row selector column on it. However in my application it is possible that a use will want to retrieve and see 1-999 rows in a report. When the 500-999 rows are retrieved, this little block of code will create 3 arrays. The arrays have the same lengths as the number of rows retrieved. And then has sequential code output to setup initial values. (see below)
In FireFox this is fine as the code runs quickly. However in IE this code can cause the page to stall for a good 3 or more seconds depending on the machine (the page loads cleanly and fully however the IE GUI will not respond).
I am wondering, if there is any way to mitigate this problem as it would appear I have no control over it. My reports aslo do not use the row highlighting provided by APEX so I don't need it to output anyways.

</script>Well, I found MY problem. It was a center tag. I had <center></center> around my Flash movie. So I put it in a table and now it's works. I looked over your code, but I don't see a center tag so maybe this won't help you. You did help me to fix mine so if I can help in any way let me know.
Update: I noticed that you centered your data cell, maybe you could try centering the whole table. -
Hello,
When I use a WAD report and do an operation that takes the system a lot of time to calculate the system is stuck and even if I regret that I did this operation and wants to start the report from the beginning the system will be stuck. Just when I logout from the system and enter it again I can continue to work.
Is there a way to prevent this behavior?
Please Advice,
Davidhi David,
in sm50 you can see when accessing which program/table it's stuck. you may also activate trace with RSRTRACE to see in which step it's stuck, base on this we may check what's the problem.
meanwhile, try to run the query with RSRT,
- also try in RSRT 'execute+debug' mark database->display query, after execute check the sql statement, char/kf selected if make sense or unnecessary char/kfs have been selected.
- try menu environment -> delete old abaps, 'generate query'.
- click properties, try read mode = h ...; cache mode '1 - without swapping'
hope this helps. -
The location of the crash reports on the system?
My Mac Pro failed to wake up from sleep (not for the first time), when I pressed a key the monitor did not show anything (apart from a black screen) and I decide to restart it. There was a crash report which appeared after restarting which I was going to post on here, though I clicked the red button.
Are the crash reports located any where on the system in a folder? As this type of crash has happened a couple of times before.
CheersOpen the Console application in the Utilities folder, click on the Logs icon, look for the various log files in the sidebar. There's a console log as well as various crashreporter logs.
