Printing a selected portion of a webpage in Safari

I just gave my old iMac G4 to my husband (a previous PC user) when I got my new iMac G5. He is now starting to cruise through the Mac world, and he has this question, which I don't know how to answer.
He wants to select only a portion of a webpage and print it. In his other world, that's all he had to do. When you select (highlight) a section in Safari, and go to Print, it wants to print all the pages, not just the selection.
I've looked everywhere else for an answer to this. Thanks
iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I just found the answer to the same question someone else asked in October. For those of you who don't want to search for it again - it is fairly simple!
Command-Shift-4, then use the mouse to highlight want you want captured. It take a picture of it and puts it on your desktop. You then open that file and print it.
A full screen capture is Command-shift-3
Thanks to whoever it was that answered this!

Does anyone know how to print only a section of a webpage in Safari?
An example of what I mean is in Internet Exploder under Windoze, you can highlight a section of a web page and then select Print Selected to get a printout of only the information you want.
Anyone know if Safari can do this task?

    Brien,
The Safari>Services>TextEdit>New Window Containing Selection will open TextEdit (or any other Services aware text editor) with the text you have selected.
You can also use the Shortcuts for taking pictures of the screen, or the Grab Utility to take partial (no text edit available) screen pictures.

  • How can I print a selection in Firefox 11 without it wasting paper and printing blank space in place of the non-selected material?

In Firefox 10 and before, I could select a small portion of a web page and it would print the selected portion on a single page. In Firefox 11, it prints blank space for the portion above my selection before printing my selection. This blank space could span several pages, and my printer prints those several blank pages with only headers and footers.

Still happens with Firefox 12. I wish they'd just fix it, the way it used to be in Firefox 10, without the complicated workaround suggested above.

  • How can I print just a select/highlighted portion of a webpage/email? FF prints EVERYTHING on each page, wasting ink.

I switched form IE to FF. In IE, I could select text (or photos) and print just the portion of web pages and emails that I wanted, thus saving paper and ink. I have not been able to do that with FF. I have to print all of each page, so text, ads, and whatever other extraneous material prints. What a waste! Is there any way to select and print just what I need using FireFox? Currently I have to run both IE and FF to handle my printing and documentation needs. Thank you!

    SurfsideSeven,
I am still unsure of exactly what you are attempting to accomplish, but based on your description I will offer another possible avenue for you to attempt to control printing of the desired text.
Open the message that you wish to print your most recent response, and then from the Mail menu bar select View>Message>Raw Source. As you can see there are several other choices under the "Message" submenu. Experiment with the choices available and choose the display that best fits your needs.
You can then use the technique which I previously posted to print the desired information.

  • How to print a selection in Numbers

Using Numbers in Yosemite, I would like to print only a portion of a larger spreadsheet.  This is easily accomplished using Excel by printing the selected cells.  How is it achieved in Numbers.  Thank you, Scott

Actually, I just found this explanation from Jerry that works; however it is a little circuitous:
" but you can duplicate the Excel process with just a couple of extra keystrokes:
Select the Area to be Printed and Command-C to copy your print area to the Clipboard.
Switch to Preview.app or Acrobat Pro and Command-N to create a PDF document containing your selection.
    Command-P to Print.
It takes only a matter of seconds and the result is nearly identical to what you would get with Excel. If Preview is already running, you can Command-Tab to it to make the app switch. If it is not running you can launch it from the Dock, or use my favorite way, Spotlight. To launch an app from Spotlight, without taking your fingers off the keys, type Command-Spacebar, pre, and hit Return.
Give it a try and you may forget about this difference between Excel and Numbers."

  • I can't print only selected text since upgrading to Firefox 8.0. Using Mac OS Lion

Until Firefox 8.0, I could select text on any webpage and print only that text. Now, I can't even get a print dialog box with an option to "Print Selection" only.
I also recently upgraded to OS Lion (from OS Leopard) on Mac. Any chance that that is the problem or is it in Firefox? I've seen lots of help requests on this site from other people with problems printing selected text from websites.

Firefox hangs the same way in safe mode.
There is no such thing as a Firefox program folder on a Mac, nor is there an "uninstall" to do, so these directions are not relevant to a Mac user.
    The problem remains.

  • Trying to create new DVD from selected portions of existing DVD

I have a DVD I created of my son singing from a video we copied into the Mac several months ago. I can't find the file on the MAC and I'm not sure it would help with my objective if i found it. The video tape has been taped over.
I want to capture selected portions of the old DVD onto a new DVD.
Using a camcorder and a different tape, I learned tha I-movie lets me capture clips directly from the camcorder.
How do I create clips from the old DVD and import them into iMovie like the camcorder allowed me to do. Once I create the clips, is it difficult to create a new DVD from the clips. This is a new process to me. It may be an easy step I'm missing, but missing that step is a show stopper. Can someone help. -- thanks

    Hi
Tapeing over an old tape - has it's major disadvantages. You'll never get that
same good quality again. The DVD disc has a very much lower quality than the original
    what ever way You choose.
Easy: Connect Your Camera to a set-top DVD player and copy to a new tape.
    Best quality I've got.
More elaborate (read pricey) use a video-bridge (some Cameras can do this)
Lazy and not that expencive: Buy Roxio Toast™ and let it convert back to streamingDV
that iMovie can handle. Probably about the same quality as copy to tape.
And don't put a mini DVD disc into Your Mac. You need a trayloaded DVD to do this.

  • I installed 4.0 and cannot print anything. I uninstalled and installed 3.6 and cannot print anything. Everything has a .tif extension and wants me to save the file and I just want to print a selection from my email!

I have had nothing but grief since I upgraded to 4. It is hateful. I can't print anything. If I highlight something from a website or my email and tell the printer to just print the selection, it doesn't print. It wants me to save the the file and they all have a .tif extension and nothing will print. I have uninstalled 4 and gone back to 3.6 and the problem is still there. If I highlight the desired selection and copy it to Word 2003, it will print what I want, but I can't print anything from the browser itself. That is the only problem I'm aware of so far. I upgraded about a week ago at most, maybe less than that. I'm so sorry I did. Why can't I print anything? I don't want my selection to be a file, I just want it to print!

Thank you, but it didn't work. My printer stays on away, independently of the PC. I can print from Chrome and IE7 with no problem but not Firefox. The .tif extension refers to a tagged image something. I went looking around in the control panel and I found that Microsoft Office has it's own Access Snapshot Viewer. My company installed Office 2003 on my PC but I only use Word in my work. This snapshot viewer was listed in the control panel under Printers and Faxes. It was not the default anything but for some reason, Firefox 4 installation must have kicked it into gear. I've had the Office software for several months with not one problem. I have Firefox4 for less than a week and everything becomes difficult. I deleted the Office snapshot viewer (hope I don't get fired for it) so my little HP printer is the only one listed and now things seem to be working okay. I have FF 3.6 back up and running. I didn't lose any data and I hope the support and security updates stay available for a long time because it seems like there are plenty of people who aren't in love with FF4. Thank you so much anyway for your help.

  • Print/Save Selected Text to PDF

I want to use Mozilla Firefox very much for a long time. I like it because the UI is very clean, easy to use, the icon vey pretty. When I use in my Android Mobile, it is very easy and intelligent to select content of page site. Very good!
But I had to install Chrome instead so I've always been using "Print a selected content to PDF" but I couldn't find ways to do that with Firefox. Chrome is doing very good.
I searched all add-ons, pdf printer software but they are only saving or printing all the page (website) to PDF.
Please help me the ways to save a selected content to PDF. Thanks very much.

    Hii hanh01001..
I think i know one solution to the problem

  • E72 - Unable to select portions of a received emai...

    Hi all,
I recently purchased an E72 and am surprised at how the device will not allow me to select text from an email I received so I can copy and paste a small snippet of text from that email to forward along to someone.  It's like the original received email is locked and the only dynamic portion of that email is any URL link.
BEING ALLOWED TO HIGHLIGHT (SELECT) AND COPY TEXT IN A RECEIVED EMAIL IS SO BASIC I CAN'T BELIEVE THE E72 WON'T ALLOW ME TO EXECUTE THIS FUNCTION!
This issue is actually a deal breaker for me and I'm considering returning the device.
    Am I missing something here?

You're right, selecting portions of text in an email and copy/pasting them is a basic function... I wonder if this feature is supported by other phones (eg. Blackberry / iPhone).
Anyway, I think a workaround (may not always work and is not exactly ideal) would be to select "Forward" the email message, from the "forwarded" email, one can now edit / select & copy/paste the needed portions of the email.  This procedure isn't exactly ideal though but I suppose it works if really needed.

  • How can I print a selection in Apple Mail?

I need help in printing selections in my emails that I recieve in Apple Mail Software. Can you help me on that please? I only want to print a selection of it, not the entire email.

    Hi s,
One way would be to copy and paste into a text document. Another would be to do a screen shot (hold command shift and press 4, then drag across the area you want to capture and print it). Another would be to start a reply to the email or forward, then delete what you don't want and print it.
