Printing accuracy help

A little background first, I've printed 1000's of pictures on many different printers, calibrated monitors and worked with PS for years. So I have a lot of experience. When I have a issue I usually work it by googling and trial and error. However, when it comes to ICC profiles, color space, etc., I'm still not as good as I should be........
I created a painting in Sketchbook Pro. I moved it to PS6 to print it. ( it looked good in Photoshop ) The printed image didn't match my painting as viewed in Sketchbook or PS6 and they both looked the same. It was harsh, colors didn't blend together and looked very crude. I was at a complete loss. I'm using an Epson 4880 with Enhanced Matte Paper and letting Photoshop manage the colors. I did a soft proof using the paper's profile, calibrated my monitor, changed printer cartridges and still after each adjustment it looked harsh. I then decided to print it to my Epson 4880 directly from Sketchbook instead, with all the same settings as in PS6 and it came out perfect, just has I hoped. My question is what I'm I missing in Photoshop that I still need to learn so I don't have to stumble around trying to match my image to print. Obviously my printer is working fine when paired with Sketchbook but the communication between my printer and PS6 is screwed up somewhere. I would appreciate any and all advice. Thanks

Thanks for your reply. The site was down in my area last night or I would have responded earlier. At any rate, here are the two screens I go through to print my image. I didn't want to offend anyone so I strategically blurred the image. However I still think you can tell how smoothly the colors blend and that the transitions in her back are not obvious. For some reason PS6 is distorting the transitions. The settings you see below are the same for printing out of PS6 or Sketchbook Pro.
Update: I've noticed that the printed images from PS6 have gotten better as I have reacted to the other post here and kept trying to make sure everything was set correctly, but still my best effort isn't as smooth as the one printed from Sketchbook Pro.

I see no printers available in the Print & Scan area. If I click "+" it seems to see the scanner, but never the printer. HELP!

The printer component uses a different protocol to advertise itself on the network compared to the scanner component and it can take several seconds longer to appear after the scanner has.
That said, with the introduction of AirPrint, the MG should be seen as Bonjour Multifunction in the Add Printer window, as shown below.
Selecting this Bonjour Multifunction entry will create a printer using AirPrint and a scanner using the iCA driver.
So do you see the MG5220 as Bonjour Multifunction or just Bonjour?

Printing SAP Help (using PDF or anything except HTML)

Printing the HTML version of SAP help is time-consuming and the pages don't come out correctly. There used to be .pdf versions of all of the help files at help.sap.com/docuprint, but that seems to have gone away. How can I print SAP help topics quickly and conveniently?

if you have access to SAP Service Marketplace, you can download the CD/DVD image of more or less all of the documentation CDs/DVDs. All these CDs contain the SAP Library in HTMLHelp format which offers a functionality to print all topics starting from the selected node in the structure tree.
Proceed as follows:
1. Goto http://service.sap.com/swdc
2. In the tree, choose "Search for all categories"
3. In the search field, enter the material number of the desired CD (this is the only reliable way to get the desired results; searching for a string contained in the material name yields unpredictable results!)
4. If the image exists, you will be presented a link for immediate download, or you can assign it to your download basket.

I see those are old posts above but I'm just now having the same problems. I have the original software CD that came with my Photosmart D5160 printer but I can't load it. I get the message "You can't open the application "HP Installer" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported". So I don't have that going for me, which is not nice! But I couldn't really care less about that if I can just find a CD labeler software that will print from my Mac to the D5160. I'd rather by new CD labeler software than a new printer. I've tried a few free CD labeler software downloads, including iWinSoft Label Maker, but nothing has worked so far. I think there's an answer somewhere; I'm able to print documents on regular paper using this printer, but I only bought it (many years ago) to print CD labels and some pictures. It's been used only sparingly and it's been in storage since I bought my Mac 3 years ago, mainly because a I got a free printer with my purchase. Any help is vertainly appreciated!!!

I'd suggest a Preferences reset.
Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Photoshop. You are prompted to delete the current settings. The new preferences files are created the next time you start Photoshop.
(If this solves the problem, mark the answer as correct, otherwise report back with your OS and Photoshop version, and printer model.)

I am legally blonde and not very tech savvy, so I don't really know how to do that. I know ur time is valuable, so could u possibly give me a short tutorial? I would b very grateful! I use the camera kit to get my pics from my sd card to my iPad and also from my iPhone to my iPad. Had I known I would have this problem, I would not have transferred my pics to my iPad until after I took the sd card and had my pics printed.

Do you even know how to nuke and re-set Photoshop's preferences, colorplak? Your last post seems to reveal that you don't understand what I'm talking about. Here's a link you can click on:

To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
Important: If you re-create the preferences by deleting the Adobe Photoshop CC Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.
Note for Photoshop 14.1 and later: If you use Generator and reset your Preferences, Generator is disabled. Choose Preferences > Plug-ins to turn it back on.

How can I easily print the Help files for an app?
Many new apps don't have pdf manuals any more; Apple's Help has what I seen called the "fascist" behavior of always being the top window, so you have to open and close it to see fully the app underneath; and paper is easier to flip through and compare, than screens. So I want to print the Help. And not by copy pasting each page!

Send bug reports and enhancement requests to Apple via its Bug Reporter system. Join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. If you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. You'll get a get a Bug/ER ID number; thus, starting a dialog directly with engineering.
Alternatively, send Feedback, but that usually goes through support and marketing, although when it'll get to engineering is anyone's guess.

Print settings help please!

I recently upgraded to Photoshop CC and now when I print on my Z-3100 44" printer, the colors are all blown out. It looks like a nuclear bomb went off, vice a landscape scene. If anyone can point me to some print configurations help, I would appreciate it!

More and more users of our WebHelp would like to print out help chapters or generate PDFs.
Does anyone know if this is possible with RoboHelp10?

Theoretically it is possible with Microsoft HTML help. Try it though and you will see the output is pretty horrible.
The only solution I have seen is for you to generate that output and then provide a link to the PDFs.

None of those things you mentioned were what I suggested.
I'm guessing the "ctrl click in printer preferences" means you Reset the Printing System?
If so, that is what I would have suggested if deleting it by selecting the ( - ) button and then adding it with the ( + ) button.
But, if HP has a fix, it likely needs to update its drivers.

Printer Profiles Help Please

Hi all, hoping to get a bit of help understanding printer profiles, the benefit of using them, how I know which profile to use etc etc. Would obviously like to get the best prints I can and if changing these setting will help it makes sense to get to knw how to use them. Just got a new printer too, so makes sense to start off on the right foot with it.
Using a Mac with OSX 10.9.1
Lightroom 5.3 Camera Raw 8
Canon Pixma MG5550 Printer. (new)

Printing using profiles has the potential of greatly improving your color accuracy and optimizing the results. I don't have the same printer you do, I have a Canon Pixma Pro-100. On the Canon website, under support for my printer, there was a download available that installed printer profiles for all of the different Canon papers. Additionally, I use several different Red River papers. And Red River provides profiles and instructions telling you what profiles to use to get the best results.
But the profiles alone will not guarantee that you will get good results. Your monitor needs to be adjusted to match what the printer produces. Those who are in the know insist that a hardware calibration device is a must in order to get accurate color. So far, I have not purchased one. But at the very least you should make a print and then adjust your monitor using monitor controls and operating system controls to match that monitor as closely as you can to the print. This is not the ideal or recommended way to set up your monitor. I'm still deciding whether or not to purchase a calibration device.
Once you have got your monitor adjusted to your satisfaction the process to set up your printing requires careful attention. It involves choosing one of the Canon papers that is closest to what you are using if it is not Canon paper. You make this choice in the Canon driver, and you choose from one of the Canon papers. You turn OFF color management in the printer driver. Then in your software that you will use to print you will instruct it to manage the color. If you are using third-party paper and have profiles for that paper, the manufacturer will tell you what profiles you should use.
Printing with profiles proved to be a bit tricky for me when I first started. I made several mistakes. But once the process sank in I found that my prints improved significantly.
