Printing alignment issue

Hi,
I am using inDesign CS3 on Windows XP. On the computer screen, my layouts look exactly how I want them to. However, when I print my document, the alignments are not correct. In particular, the master page spread seems not to line up with marks that I have made on individual pages. How can I fix the alignment issue?
The printer is a HP Laserjet 9000 dn -- an industrial strength behemoth.
Thanks,
Liat.

The master page content seems to be off by a millimeter or so when I print.
The "marks" I've drawn on the actual pages are lines and rectangles. These lines and rectangles are drawn so that they fit within certain areas of the master page content. When I print, the lines and rectangles are 1-2 millimeters off from where they are supposed to be with respect to the master.
In particular, my master page contains a theater seating chart. On the individual pages themselves, I "highlight" a certain seats in the chart by drawing a gray rectangles over these seats. When I print, these rectangles are shifted 1 mm to the left, and no longer fully "cover" the seats they are supposed to, making my publication look a bit sloppy.
Besides this 1-mm alignment issue between the master content and the content on individual pages, all other content is printing just fine.
I do not think that this is an issue of the page position in the print dialog box, since that would make a drastic alignment problem, not one as small as I am getting.
I thought about converting to PDF, but: I am printing my document as a booklet. I am working with 2-page spreads, each page being 8.5 by 5.5 inches. I have been using inDesign's "print booklet" function (2-up saddle stitch) to print my double-sided booklet. I have not yet figured out how to either (1) print PDFs as booklets or (2) export my inDesign document to PDF so that all the booklet-printing properties are preserved (i.e. page order, etc.), so that I can simply print the PDF normally.
I think you're right that PDF might be the way to go, since usually PDF's talk to printers better than inDesign seems to.
Thank you,
Liat

I just purchased an HP Photosmart D 110 series. I am trying to print envelopes. When they print, the text prints on the left of envelope. I need to to print in the center of the envelope. I am printing from Microsoft Word 2007. I have tried rotating the layout. What am I doing wrong?

Check your "Feed Method" in Word, should be on the right side.

  • F4280 Print Alignment Issues on Business Card Card Stock

I have a Deskjet F4280 All-in-One series printer.  Two weeks ago I printed 250 business cards (front and back) on the printer and everything aligned perfectly.  Today I've gone through page after page trying to print again and every time I print a page, the alignment is different!  It seems to work properly on regular paper but when trying to print on the same exact card stock I used two weeks ago, every page starts in a different place and / or is skewed on the page.  Any suggestions?

SOLVED! Try this fix! The key is to fool the printer software into thinking it's printing on plain, not expensive glossy or heavy weight paper.  http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-printing-questions/Solved-All-in-Ones-Misalignment-on-Costco-or-H...

  • Indesign CS3 printing alignment issues with Konica Bizhub

    Hi,
I am designing documents in ID CS3 to print inhouse on our Konica Minolta BizHub 350 through a Fiery. I will set up a document with at least .375 inch border all the way around. I'll print it, sometimes the documents are duplex, and it's all good. A month later I will go to print this document again, same print set up options and everything is shifting to one side, sometimes as much as .5 inch. Our printer technicians have been out here and found that we did not have the appropriate Fiery driver. So we downloaded and installed that and everything seemed to be fine until today, I go to print a document that had previously been set up and everything is shifting to the side. I went in and selected the paper size rather than let it be defined by driver and it helped a little but it's still off. Same thing happens on business cards. I'll set up the business card template in InDesign, futz with it to make sure it's printing within the card size (I can't tell you how many sheets of business card paper I've had to toss trying to work this out) and works great. Next time I go to print the cards, everything is shifted up by a quarter of an inch.
This makes no sense to me. Am I doing something wrong in InDesign? Has anyone else had this problem? I just can't spend hours realigning every document that I've already created every time I have to print them. Please help.
    Mina

You may see about getting upgraded to the Creo print management software for the BizHub over the Fiery. Despite it having its quirks it does pretty well.
We have had great luck with our BizHub though it only runs 6 hours per day. Only have to have service for PM kits. I don't know about those who require so much more service on theirs, perhaps they aren't built for 24/7 continuous operation. Ours certainly has no trouble being ran through the little one shift routine we put it through. Again, we don't really push the thing, just a hair under a quarter million impressions a year with a variety of odd stocks. For a specialty machine that does our short runs and one offs it is a really nice machine, though not something I'd just hit "print 1000" without reviewing an initial proof.
If you need to have it serviced that frequently and are getting inconsistent results that you speak of I think you are running the machine incorrectly. The gentleman that runs our was previously running a hand crank letter press for the last twenty years. It and a couple black and white production printers are his only exposure to computers at all. You should have someone educate you on how to properly run the machine if you are continually running into these problems, or get a $300 PC and a copy of Adobe Reader to do the printing for you like we do.

  • Double side printing alignment issues

I have a officejet pro 8500a plus.  I have Windows 7 and have gotten all the updates that have been sent.   I am having trouble with the alignment of the back pages.  It cuts off about and inch at the top.  How can I get the back page aligned?  I try to double side everything, but certain documents are worse than others.
    Thanks,  Shelly

    Shelly,
It sounds as though the Back Side, Top Of Form is shifted down an inch when duplexing.  It also sounds like the shift is dependent on media type and size.  Here is my suggestion;  remove the cables (Power Cord & possible USB or Ethernet cable) from the rear of your unit.   Then, remove the duplex module in the lower rear face of the device.  There should be a set of pictorials (stickers) displaying how to do this.  Once removed, open the doors on the duplexer (there are 2) and make certain no foreign debris or other contaminants are present.  You can wipe the elastomeric rollers off with alcohol if they are white colored with paper dust.  Replace the module in the rear and reconnect the cables.  Then, open the ink supply access door prior to powering the unit up and inspect the other elastomeric rollers. If they are white as well, clean them with a few Q-tips wet with alcohol until the traction returns to the roller.  Lastly, check the top cleanout and make certain all the small rollers (which are held in place by small springs) are intact.  If you can, whip any paperdust out from the top cleanout and the recess that it fits into.  Power the unit on and try a simple duplex command with A size media (81/2" x 11").  Let us know if this fixed your problem.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8000 -- keeps printing alignment page

I was having troubles with the black ink not printing correctly so after doing many cleanings I decieded to manually clean the print head. I took the printhead out of the printer then wipped the part where the ink comes out with a most paper towle. After I put the printhead back in the printer printed a print alignment page. OK. Now when ever I print anything the printer will after the print job is done print another alignment page. Is there a way to make it stop? Thanks for you help.

  • Hp officejet pro 8500 will not print alignment page

Hi, I saw that others on this thread where having similar problems and I was wondering if anyone could help.
I have been having trouble with my HP Office Jet Pro 8500 Wireless (A909g series) printer with the print heads. Initially, it stopped printing in blue so I followed all of the steps for cleaning the print head ect.  At one point I had removed the print head and reinserted it and at that point, I started to get the "alignmnet failed" message.  I just purchased a new M/B print head, and while it now prints in blue when a test page is printed, I still get an alignment failure notice when it tries to align the print head.  In addition, it does not print the full alignment page, only the top colored lines.  While I can print, it always runs an alignment afterwards, again failing.  I would apprecaite any help you could provide.  This printer has been great until now, and I do not want to waste anymore ink trying to print and it failing the alignment everytime.  I am running Windows 7 professional.  Thank you.

Hello , Welcome to the thread!  I understand that your HP Officejet Pro 8500 All-in-One A909a Printer is experiencing Printhead and Alignment failures. Because you have already replaced both the Cyan and Magenta Printhead (twice) and Black and Yellow Printhead in the past and the issues continue to occur over time I believe that the Printhead sensor or print system within the actual printer is going. Should this occur then print system issues, such as Alignment, Printhead, cartridge, quality, etc issues will occur and will usually become worse over time. Therefore, rather then replacing the Printheads it may be time to replace the actual printer. With that being said, there are a few troubleshooting steps that I would like you to complete to resolve this issue.   To start, please click here . Once the support document opens please review all of the listed Solutions and sub-steps to ensure that all steps have been completed. Should the issue persist, then a Firmware Update may be needed on your printer. However, I do need to know what Operating System you're using on your computer in order to provide you with the correct Firmware Update. The Firmware is the internal programming within your printer. It controls what your printer does and how your printer does it. If there is a corruption within the internal programming in your machine, your HP Officejet may not respond correctly.   Please respond to this post with the result of your Alignment Failed troubleshooting. Should the issue persist, be sure to include your Operating System in your response so I can provide you with the additional Firmware Update. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • Printing CM Issue

I was pleased to find that I can now print from LR 1.1 directly to QTR using CM and QTR Create-icc RGB profiles without crashing (always crashed in 1.0). However, there is still a problem with CM in LR 1.1 when using these profiles. Prints are flat and muddy with low contrast (using either perceptual or relative intent). Same file and profile produces perfect prints when printed from CS3 with perceptual intent and BPC on. I can also get a good print by first converting the image file to the QTR Create-icc profile in CS3 and then printing from LR 1.1 with CM turned off (eg. "printer managed"). It seems to me that LR is not using the icc profile correctly when rendering for printing. Is there a CM fix in the works for the next release?

Hi there @comicsans , welcome to the forums!
I am responding to your post about the printing issue you seem to be having, as your print outs seem to offset by 5cm when printing in landscape, and all print settings and the print preview are and appear to be correct.
I am going to let you know what my personal suggestions are and some steps you could try that might help you.
To start with, you can use this troubleshooting guide that will bring you through steps to help with print quality issues. I am thinking that the printer may need an alignment. The test print you'll print out will show you the results if the printer itself has an issue.
Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP Photosmart Premium All-in-One Printer Series (C309)
If the test print from the above guide shows no issues, the problem could be within the program you're printing from or a driver conflict.
You can try Uninstalling the Printer Software , restarting your computer, and then reinstalling the printer driver and software. To get the driver you need, click this link, select your operating system, driver and download: HP Photosmart Premium All-in-One Printer - C309g Drivers
It's also a good idea to try printing from another program, which will rule out if one program is solely the problem.
Feel free to let me know your findings and results!

  • Alignement issue when exporting to PDF

    Hello,
I'm having some alignment issues when exporting an InDesign file to PDF.
I have a couple of square pictures, touching eachother at the edges. These are aligned bang on in InDesign (the lines overlap), but when exporting to a PDF and viewing in there, it seems that some seem to jump up slightly.
Is this just a display issue or a setting issue when exporting to PDF?
    Thanks
    Benny

The detail is cropped too tight for me to tell how many photos are intersecting there. Is there a vertical intersection as well? If not, I think you're looking at a very slightly non-rectangular frame, if there is, then you might still be looking at a non-rectangular frame, or the frames are not perfectly aligned, which doesn't surprise me if you snapped to a guide -- I find that less than 100% reliable since CS6.
Presuming that you've zoomed in to show us the problem, that's probably a single pixel misalignment and you'd be very hard pressed to see it in printed output without a loupe.
You can check the bottom edge of the top photo, and the top edge of the bottom photo(s) for being out of horizontal by using the direct select tool to select the corner points and seeing if the y-coordinate is the same on both sides of the frame.
My printer tell me to always overlap frames, rather than butting them, for trapping, for what that's worth, but I don't always do what he says, and I've never had a problem.

  • Print Alignment

I am having problems with my printer printing the images crooked. I have a HP Photosmart C4680 and I have tried all of the maintenance tools available in the program that came with the printer. I was printing several pages and in the middle of the process it went out of alignment and can NOT get it to print straight. Print quality is fine and the does seem to go in straight as well. I have also done several of the "Alignment" tool in program (printing a new test sheet every time). I am running Windows XP. There was a paper jam a little prior to it doing this and I just opened the back to remove the paper, as told to do by printer.

Hello @ma2ck , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you're having alignment issues.  I would like to help!
I'd first recommend performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
Second, I'd suggest this document on an 'Out of Paper' Error Message Displays and the Product Does Not Pick Up or Feed Paper.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Colour alignment issues with CP1515n

I'm having some colour alignment issues with my Color Laserjet CP1515n.  Lately, I've noticed that the 3 colours go out of alignment from the middle towards the right of my printouts.  Alignment at the left towards the middle half of the page is ok but gets progressively worse towards the right side of the page.
Nothing in the user interface allows me to reset the colour alignment.  What can be the cause of this and what's the remedy?  This printer is slightly over a year old and has only just gone through its first set of toner cartridges.

I am also having alignment issues to the same nature as the post below. I have just replaced the Black, Magenta and Cyan toners. After doing this the alignment goes out of register from left to right (left edge fits right edge all colours are out of fit by 2mm).
I have also found nothing in any manuals as to how to adjust or fix this problem. This is the second time I have replaced these colours. I have re-calibrated and taken the cartridges out several times but it is still the same.
Any advise would be helpful. As it is at the moment the printer is unusable for my job and it's the only one I have.

  • Can't do printer alignment test

I changed out the ink in my printer and went to do a printer alignment test and I am not able to perform the test.  A message comes up that says my printer is in an error state and it has to be fixed before I can do the test.  I am not sure what the error is, so I don't know how to fix it.  I can print pages, but I need to do the test because there is a little bit of smearing of the ink when it prints.  Any suggestions?

    Hello jazzy3,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that after changing the cartridges for your printer, you are trying to get the printer to do an alignment but can't due to an error state message. I will do my best to help you with the issue.
Where is the message coming up stating the printer is in an error state? If this is on the computer, have you checked the printer (provided it has a screen) for a message, or even blinking lights?
Which printer do you have? If you could provide the model number that would help greatly. (Finding Your HP Product Model Number)
That information would help me with providing you more accurate steps and suggestions for your issue. I look forward to your reply.

  • ALV Grid - Alignment Issues in TOP OF PAGE.

    Hi,
We have a requirement to right align text in the report header.
We are using REUSE ALV GRID DISPLAY, but using TOP-OF-PAGE event - the whole text is left aligned.
I tried using Class CL_DD_DOCUMENT which solved the alignment issue, but I am not able to see the header while printing/downloading to excel.
I want the header to be available while downloading/printing the list. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Harveen.

    Hi
The ALV download only the grid into the file, so not the data you're writing in TOP_OF_PAGE event.
If you need to do that, you should create an your own buttom to download the file.
