Printing always defaults landscape in Safari only

Only in Safari, printing always defaults to landscape.  My printer is Brother HL-4070CDW series CUPS.  It will print portrait, but I have to tell it every time.  And selecting a preset that is set up for Portrait does not change the orientation - I have to click the radio button for Portrait mode.
Other applications defaut to portrait.
Anyone else had this problem?

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Now type of copy paste the following:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs.plist
Click Go then move the com.appl.print.PrintingPrefs.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac. Turn off your printer then turn it back on.
Launch Safari and try printing ...
In the Safari print window, make sure Default Settings is selected from the presets pop up menu.

  • HT204135 My printer always defaults to "Scale = 150%" and prints oversized. I always have to set the scale back to "100%". Is there any way to change this default setting?

    Hi
My osX Lion loaded iMac always prints with a default "scale" of "150%" and consequently won't print anything on a single page. I always have to go into "Printer Settings" and change it to "100%" to print properly. Is there any way to set this up to default at "100%"?
    Thanks!

Hi,  just a note that might help.  I notice in baltwo's screen shot of the print dialog, that the Preset titled "Plain paper, best" is selected.
anderdan33316, if you have selected a preset, and that preset was created with the "Scale" set to "150%".  I suspect your issue is related to this.
    for a possible solution,
    1. in Safari, open the Print dialog (by cmd-p, or choosing "Print..." from the File menu, either way works).
      2. in the dialog, manually set the Scale to 100%
      3. in the "Presets:" pull-down menu, select "Save Current Settings as Preset..."
      4. enter a label that is meaningful to you, such as "Standard", "Basic", "Default" - it can be modified later
      5. print that page from that dialog, and the customized Preset will be one of your choices until you decide to delete it.
    hope this helps,
    Roy

  • User Agent issue - Always defaults to non-Safari user

If I try to access my www.me.com site, I am told I am using an unsupported browser. However, I am using Safari 5.0.3 on a mac running 10.6.5. When this happens, I have to go to Safari Prefs/Advanced and activate the Developer Menu, then choose either Safari 5 on a mac or the top choice, Default. Then it will recognize the browser correctly.
Yet, if I open a new tab or window, the user agent pops back to an old Mozilla string and I again cannot access pages correctly.
Is there a way to force Safari to report itself correctly, or perhaps there are files in the library somewhere that need to be deleted and rewritten by Safari to get out of this loop?
    Thanks!
    Hopa

    Hi,
    on a mac running 10.6.5.
    www.me.com site
Update your system software. v10.6.6 is available. Very important to keep your software up to date if you have a MobileMe account.
Click the Apple () menu (top left in your screen) Software Update ...
    Then repair permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done.
If you see any warnings re: SUID messages, they can be safely ignored, information here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US

Restart your Mac then navigate to your .me account.

  • IP4500 printer always defaulting to "Pause printing". I have to open Print Queue and de-select pause

My iP4500 has started to always switch to "Pause Printing". I am prompted to open the pring queue and uncheck the pause printing box. It then prints, but goes back to pause when it is done. What changed, and what do I change to correct this???

Have you tried removing the printer from System Preferences and then adding it back?

  • PSE 8 always uses landscape as printer orientation by default?

    Windows 7x64.
I have a number of multi-page docs created in PSE. No matter what printer I select, and despite them being in a standard portrait size/orientation, the print options ALWAYS default to landscape. I've checked the actual printer under "printers and devices", and the actual settings there are portrait.
This is worse because I must actually use the print options dialog box to move manually through EACH PAGE of the document to be printed, and set the printer options to "portrait" on every page. If I fail to do even one page, the entire document is printed landscape, cutting of page contents.
The preview shows each page is indeed landscape until I do this procedure, at which time it flips the page to portrait, one at a time.
Doesn't matter what printer is used.
Also, once printed, if I immediate open the print dialog again, same printer and everything, once again it has landscape.
There seems to be no memory whatsoever for orientation (other settings, like resolution, are maintained during the run on PSE, but are always lost when PSE is closed). Again, in particular, orientation for every page, individually, on each print attempt, is always set to landscape, no matter that the document is not in that orientation.
Is there even a way to specify document orientation? Is there something PSE does to attempt to determine orientation that might be wrong? Can I make PSE remember printer settings, or at least use the system defaults for the printer?

Tried that (remember, I have PSE8, and the post you referred to is PSE11).
Anyway, started app, used ctrl-alt-shift, held down while clicking organize. Waited for organizer to start. Then started PSE, loaded last file, clicked on print.
    Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd....
Preview is still in landscape mode.
So nope, no benefit. In fact, I can open the print dialog, change to portrait (and the preview does change), close it, reopen it immediate... landscape again.
So, I figured out that in addition to PSE 8, I still also had PSE 7 installed. I'd assumed that installing 8 would upgrade, or uninstall, the prior version, but both are there. So I uninstalled 7.
I noticed that the 7.0 settings directory, well hidden under AppData, still existed, and had several DAT and a settings file, which I moved elsewhere, with no change.
So I did find wher 8.0 keeps its preferences:
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\8.0\Editor
File is Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 Prefs.psp
This is an encoded file, so it can't be directly edited. I renamed the extension so the program wouldn't find it, and fired up the editor. Predictably, a new prefs file was created, and was smaller than the original (166KB vs 176KB). So one would guess this contains default settings.
I then tried the same print experiment. Sadly, absolutely every symptom was identical.
So here's what I think is really happening. This has nothing to do with settings or printers. I think PSE tries to guess the orientation from the size of the page/image/whatever. I created these pages from scanned images, and they are not EXACTLY a standard size. They are clearly portrait (size is 8.25" by 10.667" - very, very close to the 8.5 x 11 standard page size, and very, very obviously portrait).
To test the theory, I resized the first page of the 6 page document to exactly 8.5 x 11 inches. (But note: the proportions I had were identical to the proportions of 8.5 x 11). But no joy - still portrait when printing. I verified the printers themselves had system defaults for portrait, which they did.
Now my theory was that the print orientation had been set when I created the document at not-quite-exactly 8.5x11.

  • Outlook 2007/2010 only prints to default printer

We use the following command to add network printers to XP PCs' (this saves each user of the PC having to find and install the network printer themselves)
    rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /ga /n\\machine\printer
This adds the printer for all users of the PC, however Outlook 2007/2010 only allows the user to print to the default printer, regardless of which printer the user selects.
When printing from Word/Excel or any other application the print goes to the selected printer.
Has anyone else had this problem, and found a solution, or know why Outlook only prints to default but other office applications print to other printers correctly ?
    Thanks
    Steve

I am having a similar issue to ferdz2013.
I am running terminal services on server 2008 R2.  This is in a domain environment, the user has permissions to the color printer in question and can print to it using Word and notepad.  However in Excel, it will not print to the color printer.
Even if I select the color printer as the default printer, it only prints to another BW printer.  In fact, there are .......
Well, as I was writing this, after troubleshooting it for an hour, it fixed itself.  I was going into his control panel to count the network printers installed (about 5) of which he could only choose from 2 in excel. Suddenly, he has only
two installed.  We can print to it, but we can't choose color now.
I believe this is a domain controller issue, where he is attached to one DC, and I am attached to a second DC, where I change the AD permissions.  It took an hour for them to exchange this information.
Just something else to think about.
Now I need to figure out why he can only select BW.

  • One Solution to Safari Issues Printing PDF's (Landscape)

If your combination of hardwar and software leads to the following trouble:
You are trying to print out a PDF from Safari, and
The document is in Landscape orientation, and
The print dialogue from the PDF provides no method to switch from Portrait, and
You try printing from the Safari Print menu, which does allow choosing Landscape, but
It results in printing extraneous garbage, and
It all prints out in the wrong size and won't fit properly,
and, If you also happen to have an iPad, then a solution exists:
    Print from Safari in iOS!
It all works fine, even double-sided. You're stuck with Long-edge Binding, which is NQR for Landscape printing jobs, but that's a separate issue for the iPad/iOS forums.

That was very hard, and very good work. Well Done !

  • MIGO - NDR print indicator default to unchecked

We would like to default the 'print' box in MIGO to always be unchecked when a user goes into the transaction.  There will be times when the user will check the box to print a label; however this will not be often.  Today, if a user checks the box, backs out of MIGO, then goes back into MIGO the box remains checked.  It's like it remembers whatever was set in that box previously.
We've tried playing with the user parameter of NDR being set to 'X' (capital), or being set to blank, but it's like the parameter is not being read at all.  The screen is only remembering what we did last when we re-execute the transaction.  We've also tried playing with the GET/SET parameters in SE51, program SAPLMIGO screen 0110 - but again no luck.
Am I missing something being set somewhere for the NDR parameter to be read?  Any tricks to get this to always default to unchecked?
    Thank you for the suggestions.

I worked with ABAP'ers and it looks like this change was already in the enhancement section:
    Program: LMIGOKH1
    ENHANCEMENT-POINT HEADER_DEFAULTS_SET_02 SPOTS ES_SAPLMIGO.
    Set print indicator
GET PARAMETER ID 'NDR' FIELD ps_gohead-xnapr.
    We also have this:
    Program: LMIGOHG2
        CHECK lcl_migo_globals=>kernel->s_action-create = abap_true."       307284
         REPLACE
SET PARAMETER ID 'NDR' FIELD gohead-xnapr.
The even more strange (frustrating) thing is that if we set a break point at the SET indicator in program LMIGOHG2, then the logic is picked up based on the user Parameter - not based on the last value that was entered.  However, if a breakpoint is set at the "get" section - it does not work.
I may be sending this one to SAP. Thank you for your suggestions.

  • Built-in Fax and printing to default paper tray

    Gentleones,
I have a HP LJ1320n which is connected to my iMac. The problem is that incoming faxes, when printed, cause the printer to request paper and the only way to make the printer continue is to go press the green button on the printer.
I cannot find anything anywhere which would allow me to tell the built-in faxing capability of 10.4.10 the default paper tray or page size. None of the options in printer setup affect the behavior. It always makes me press the green button.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Bill

    hi again!
just had a look at my print n share app on the ipad. select your document, tap the printer icon on the top right and a new Print option box will open with all the print options, the paper tray option is at the bottom (I have attached a screenshot below) :

  • NI Reports print function default printer behaviour

Just an FYI... Using the NI Reports Print Report.vi without wiring the printer name does not always work as expected at least for Excel. If you do the following with an Excel worksheet:
    1) Print to "Printer1"
    2) Print to "" (default)
The second printer operation will print to "Printer1" because it is now set as the 'Active Printer' in the open Excel workbook.
The Print Report.vi does not actually write the name of the default printer to the Excel _Print.vi PrintOut method. It passes an empty string, so Excel will print with the current active printer which may or may not be the default printer.
The Print Report.vi documentation should probably be changed to reflect that passing an empty string to the 'printer name (default)' terminal will not print to the default printer in all cases.

That is all good information - and all information which I already know and which does not answer my question.
The issue that I am having is that Safari and Safari alone is ignoring the printer setting. Could be something in the Safari plist file or somewhere else in Safari that is not working correctly - or at least I am assuming that it is a problem that Safari is not doing what it is supposed to for some reason - rather than Safari deliberately being programmed to ignore the system pref for printer setting.

  • IPhoto Printing and Default Settings

Help would be appreciated.  All of sudden, with no other changes to my computer or my printer, when I try to print a photo to 4x6, 5x7, etc sized photo paper, the print is oriented to portrait, rather than to landscape.  Can't find any settings to change the orientation.  I've reset my printer to default factory settings.  I've noticed that all of the print pre-sets in my computer are set to portrait, and I can't find a way to change the pre-sets.  Very frustrating as I print quite a few pictures this way and have never had a problem.  The only way I could print a 4x6 and get the whole picture is to print it on 8x10 paper.  Thank you for any suggestions.  Using MacBook Pro (2011), HP Officejet 8500 all-in-one, and iPhoto 9.5.1.

That indicates that the problem is limited to your account on the Mac.  Since deleting the iPhoto preference file didn't help it could be another pref file that's messing up the process. Here's a way to determine if that's the case:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
    1 - close all applications.
2 - open your Home/Library folder and Option-drag (copy) the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
3 - select the contents of your Home/Library/Preferences folder and drag them into the Trash bin in the Dock.  You will be asked to provide your Admin password.
4 - reboot. Be sure to know your account's username and password as you will be asked to log in with it.
5 - run the application again and determine if the problem(s) is fixed.
6 - If the problem is fixed:
    A - open the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.
B - Open the Preferences  folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace or Skip button.
    D - reboot.
7 - If the problem is NOT fixed, drag the contents of the Preference folder on the Desktop into the Home/Library/Preference folder and replace the entire contents that were created by clicking on Replace.
8 - reboot and you're back as square one.
Note:  keep the Preference folder on the desktop until you're sure all registration info for your apps are working.  If not you can copy the required files from the desktop pref folder to the working one.

  • IMac Lion login defaults to incorrect Safari home page and emails

When I log into my iMac running Lion, the following programs startup automatically - mail, safari and iTunes.  In mail, an old email is always highlighted, always the same one...I want it to default to the newest message.  In Safari and bookmarked page always starts up instead of my homepage - I want my home page to start up.  And iTunes always starts up and I don't want this to happen.
If I go into my System Preferences -> General, I've unchecked the box "Restore applications ..."  but when I exit and go back in, it's rechecked.  In my login applications the only application listed is "iTunes Helper."
It appears my login preferences are always defaulting to the incorrect (but always the same) settings for iTunes, Safari, and Mail.  Any way to clear this all out?

    Preferences may be corrupted...
    Go to ~/Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
    Open System Preferences > General
Make sure the box next to Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps is deselected.
You may also need to move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the Trash as well then reset your Home page in Safari > Preferences - General.
    Same path as the systempreferences.plist

  • Printing F&^$$! up through Safari

Hi. New Ibook user. Love it but printing web pages and maps and stuff has been completely unreliable. More than half the time, pages come out blank or partially printed, or printed all weird. Plus, my printer will kick out extra blank pages every time I print. Please help! Thanks in advance.
    Keith

    Hi Keithr2334,
    What are your computer specimens??
This behavior is not a Safari issue, but a setup in the Printer settings.
    Check your printer settings.
    * Is your printer running okay in other Applications ?? Ore is this issue only when you printing from Safari.
    * There also problems at the way the Internet pages are developed, I also have sometimes a blank page coming out my printer (always the last page), even do my printer settings are okay. There is nothing you can do about that.

  • How can I get my printer to print in color? I can only print black and white

HP Officejet 6500 E710n-z-------windowsxp      My printer will not print anything in color.   How can Iget my printer to print in color?  I can only print in black and white.    It is a new Printer and we just installed it 2 wks ago.

I am not sure I understand ''it still will not print. ''
If you cannot see any content on pages you printed or in print preview, the cause might be margins which are set too high.
#In order to check the margins, we need to go to ''File'' > ''Page Setup''.
#Once this is done, switch to the ''Margins & Header/Footer'' tab.
#Check what's set there under ''Margins''.
The following are the default values for ''Margins'':
    '''Right''': 12.7
    '''Top''': 12.7
    '''Left''': 12.7
    '''Bottom''': 12.7
Check these values accordingly and change them if necessary.

  • In Full Screen mode Safari only opens new tabs?

Safari 5.1 has a preference that lets you set whether or not targeted links open into new tabs or new windows.
In regular screen mode, this preference works as expected.
In Full Screen mode (Lion), this preference seems to be ignored, and Safari always opens targeted links into new tabs.
Is there a preference I'm missing to set this behavior for Full Screen mode?
The reason I ask is that I would love to use the swipe gesture to switch between different web pages I have open, and so far Safari only seems to use gestures in Full Screen mode to switch between windows, not tabs.
