Printing black and white with color accent

I am trying to figure out how the make a photo black and white and just have a flower colored.
I have Photoshop 9 and am a beginner. Please help!  Thanks.

1. Open your photo in Full Edit.
2. Find the smart brush, the one with the gears on it. Choose a black and white style from the thumbnails in the options bar and turn on the Inverse checkbox.
3. Drag over the flower that you want to keep in color. The rest of the photo will turn black and white.

My hp photosmart 7150 only prints black and white with mac.  I have tried installing and uninstalling, installing drivers, but no change.

    Hi,
You did not mentioned your Mac OS X version, however I assume you have one of the latest versions.
The Photosmart 7150 is not supported on Mac OS X v10.6, v10.7, v10.8 or v10.9 and therefore it is more than likely that there are no drivers for your OS and the used Generic Driver only provide B&W printing.
Although it is not officially supported you may check 3rd party solutions such as the 3rd party HP-IJS print drivers which list your printer as supported.
Be sure to install any of the 3 required downloads, then click the plus sign under Printers & Scanners, click the Use drop down and click on Select Printer Software.
Search for your printer model form the list and select the driver, I believe that may work:
    http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/hpijs
Although it only list up to 10.8 (Mountain Lion) it should also work on Mavericks from my experience.
    Hope that may help,
    Shlomi

  • Black and White With Color Not Working

I am trying to have the background of my image black and white with the person in color.  I turned black and white on then tried brushing black and white away from the person.  Instead of the full, vibrant color coming back it was a dull color.  Instead, I tried turning black and white off then brushing black and white into the background.  This time, instead of being pure black and white it was black and white with an obvious hint of color.  I have watched plenty of tutorials and know that it is possible to have it be pure black and white in the background with the person in front appearing in full vibrant color.  I just don't know what I am doing wrong that either my vibrant color is looking washed out in one method or my black and white isn't pure black and white in the other method.  When I first turn black and white on the image does go to pure black and white.  Any suggestions?

    See what happens after re-booting.
Is "Brush Range" set to "All"?
Try the same adjustments on another Image.
Try the "Color Monochrome" adjustment and see if it works as expected when brushed in/brushed away.

  • HOW TO PRINT BLACK AND WHITE ON HP PHOTOSMART 7510 USING MAC?

HAVING SOME PROBLEM TO PRINT BLACK AND WHITE WITH MY HP PHOTOSMART 7510. SPENDING MONEY BUYING EXPENSIVE COLOR INK BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT TO DO TO PRINT JUST BLACK AND WHITE PLEASE. I HABE A MAC OS X 10.10.4 THANK YOU.

Welcome , I would be happy to provide you with more information about printing with black only on the Photosmart 7510. First, here is how to make sure you are changing the black only settings; In the software program that you are trying to print from, click File, and then click Print. (or Command+P)I have put a red box around the drop down in the image below, from this menu you want to choose Paper Type/QualityIn the Paper Type/Quality tab, click Color Options, (usually you have to click the little arrow, again outlined in red on the image)If you want color printouts, make sure that Greyscale is selectedChange the Greyscale mode to Black Ink Only or Black Print Ink Cartridge OnlyClick Print to try the print job again.   Next you might want to read about how your ink supplies are used; The following information is from this article; Ink Usage in Inkjet Printers - it discusses several aspects of ink usage with HP printers. Ink is used in a number of ways throughout the inkjet printing process. In general, ink in an ink cartridge is used for printing documents, photographs and other such materials. Some ink, however, must be used to maintain the health of the print head; some ink is residual; and some ink evaporates. HP offers two general inkjet print head designs: integrated into the ink cartridge (Integrated Print Head: IPH), and a long-life print head integrated into a printer which has Individual Ink Cartridges (IIC). Just so you know, your printer is an Individual Ink Cartridge (IIC) setup. Some color ink may be used when printing black text-or-graphicsThere are several circumstances when color ink may be used—primarily to improve print quality, and sometimes to improve printer reliability—even if the document appears to be only black text-and-graphics. Many HP printers utilize chemical interactions to improve the quality and permanence of plain paper black text-and-graphics by adding small amounts of color ink to certain black areas. Some dark images which look black may contain a combination of black and color inks. For black and white images and photos, a blend of colors called "composite black" may be used to achieve significantly better image quality and smoother gray tones than can be accomplished with black inks alone. Some inkjet printers utilize pigmented black ink, which is incompatible with some inkjet photo paper. In this case, dark or black areas are made up of color inks. Page yield testing is conducted with all cartridges (black and color) installed in the printer. For more information see Inkjet page yields . For users who wish to print utilizing just black ink (despite the reduced print quality), many HP printers offer options. For example, a driver color setting (by selecting "print in grayscale with the black cartridge only" in printing preferences) specifies printing using only black ink. In addition, many IPH printers can operate in "reserve mode," which allows the user to continue to print with just the black cartridge when the color cartridge is removed or not installed. In HP IIC systems, all supplies are required to be installed in the printer for the printer to function.  So your IIC unit will use those colour inks to maintain itself, keep air out of the printhead and keep your print quality legible.    Please let me know if these steps resolved your issue, or if there is anything else I can do to help.  I look forward to hearing from you!   Thanks,

  • Pages 09 poster only prints as black and white but color looks fine on the screen

The original template my poster was based upon prints in color, I can print other documents from pages in color without issue, and even if I print to pdf (which looks fine on the screen) and then open the pdf in preview and then print, it still prints black and white.
Um, and yes, it's a color printer and it's a standard 8.5x11 paper, so there's nothing too weird there.  It looks totally fine literally everywhere except paper, and I have no other issues with any other documents, even really similar ones, that I have sent through the same printer.
I sent the same pdf file to a local copy shop and it printed just fine.
    ACK!  Please help!

I can't find anything that is print to black & white or grey scale in the document rules or anywhere else, and since the printer prints it as a pages document AND a pdf as black and white--but someone else can print the same PDF file in living color on their printer without any issues, I'm stumped.
Without changing anything, I can print any other document, jpg, web page, or anything on the same printer (including the same apple template) and the colors are fine...but then this one prints in b&w.

  • My printer is Hp printer 932C it will only print in black and white not color

my printer is Hp printer 932C it will only print in black and white not color I got a new color cartage nothing still only printing in back and whit what can i do

There are a few things to check:
Make sure the blue tape has been removed from the nozzle plate.
Print a diagnostic page as shown in method 4 here.  Does this page print color?  If so the issue may be your driver settings.  Check for a "Print in grayscale" setting and uncheck this box.

  • Print black and white only, on Hp photosmart 5514.

    Hi,
I dont like it at all that i have to contact support forums for something like this.
it use to be so easy to choose color or black and white printing.
Why have you made it so difficult ? Totally pisses me off but i leave that for the feedback section.
I have seen others with the same problem so it is not only me. now it has taken more than 20 minutes and i have to get to work soon.
So, how do I print black and white (or greyscale) using my newly bought hp photosmart 5514 ? ( is it smart ???)
I have been wasting a lot of ink now, very unsmooth not having it available in the ordinary printing window.
Like it matters, i use win 7 blablabla

I also hate that there is NO WHERE to find a simple answer.  I have a "HUGE" XL cartridge of black only.  Then I have to buy all the stupid little tiny color cartridges AND another little black cartridge.
Here I suppose: when I print in color, I use the color + small black cartridge.
When I want to print BLACK ONLY or GRAYSCALE, I choose that and it only prints using the XL big black cartridge.
WRONG.  And no one can seem to answer this correctly, t but I know it does not work.
Remove 1 empty color cartridge whole printer won't work, even if I want black print only.
If all the small "color" cartridges + small blk cartridge is low but the BIG BLACK cartridge is showing full, still won't print BLACK ONLY.
I cannot PRINT with this stupid printer unless all cartridges have ink and are inserted.  STUPID
I am now late to work simply because I cannot print a document PERIOD unless I have full color sitting there.
I just tried it multiple ways, grayscale, black only blah blah and it ALWAYS came out too- light, ie the sm blk cartridge was being used and it is admittedly LOW ON INK.  WHAT is the big black cartridge doing there, saying it is full and not printing "black only" or "grayscale"?
The only article I could find that halfway enlioghtened me to the problem was HP page stating that "black"  is never really black, to improve quality (thanks for making the decision for me) HP adds just a bit of color here and there to make black really black for paper quality paper.
SO SNARLING.  Going to *bay to get refilled cartridges so I can print in a week.  SNARL

  • Trouble printing black and white

    Friends,
I'm trying to print black and white on an imac i7, snow leopard, hp premium plus all in one (309g) printer. The prints have a slight purple cast. It is highly noticeable when the prints are placed next to older black and whites printed with an HP 8450. I print out of Aperture normally, but I'm having the same problem printing from preview. I use hp paper and inks, and the hp printer profiles.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I used all current profiles for the printer. However, I just tried something different:
I turned off colorsync and let the printer manage the colors. I got a MUCH BETTER
black and white rendition. Who woulda thunk it -- all this effort to manage colors,
and the printer does a better job than we do. Go figger.
    Thanks for your help.
    Steve
You have the right idea, at least in some respects. The trouble with Apple's color managements system and pretty much all graphics programs these days is that those who coded them haven't got a foggy idea about black and white nor even grayscale. For instance the color filter for "black and white" is not true black and white, it is RGB gray; in other words it is using three colors to produce gray (or black) and that is just not the same. RGB gray images are still 24-bit images whereas true grayscale is 8-bit and true black and white is 1-bit. True black and white images can be very high resolution yet be very small files because of the phenomenal compression that's possible. Only those of use who actually work(ed) with black and white film and black & white ink on presses truly understand black and white color. Which is unfortunate because RGB gray is so poor and the files are just HUGE!
I've encountered the same problem, and am trying to solve it also. Perhaps I can find a profile for true black and white. Or create one? For instance, as I mentioned above, Preview has a filter for black and white, (but only to save a pdf file) and if you then save the pdf file as a TIF via that black & white filter and then load the resulting image into a program that's actually capable of black and white, you will find that the file it created is actually RGB gray (24-bit) - it LOOKS gray but it's not. Whereas if you load a true black and white image into Preview (Preview unfortunately has no means of creating true black and white, nor even to convert back to color) then you will discover that now you have the option to save as 1-bit or 8-bit gray (1-bit being true black and white with no shades of gray and 8-bit being grayscale with 256 shades of gray i.e. 0 to 255).
    So while PAHU writes...
Black and white printing of photos (aka grayscale printing) uses other colours,
not just black, to make grays. If you can see a purple cast, this could be a result
of the magenta not printing in the correct spot or being too prominent in the print.
...that is correct insofar as what printers/programs typically are doing with the given color profiles, but it is not correct. Grayscale should NOT use other colors; grayscale should use only black (which is also more economical). By turning off colorsync you likely enabled the printer's color management system to take over and print true grayscale (black ink only).
So I don't yet have a solution, but I do agree that you've touched on a glaring deficiency in Mac OS color management and probably a great many graphic programs today, and likely the same goes for many printers.

  • Photosmart 3210 only prints black and white??

    Hi everyone,
I have an HP Photosmart 3210 that I just installed the lastest HP drivers onto my up to date macbook. Once finishing the install and completing the setup, I can only print in black and white / grey scale. Is this driver issue? Has anyone seen this before and can it be fixed?
    Thanks!

Yes, this is a color printer and has 5 color cartridges and 1 black. All of them are full except for one which happens to be magenta I believe. Anyway this printer works fine with a Windows XP desktop and prints in color. I'm not sure if it's a driver issue or the fact it is connected to an Airport Express.
As a test I hooked the macbook directly to the printer by a usb cable and it still prints black and white only. I checked the settings and see nothing defaulting to print black and white. Also, now that I have this hooked up to the airport, now the Windows XP box will only print in black and white. This is really weird and think it's either an OS X issue or HP mac printer dirver issue.
    Any other ideas?

  • Print black and white on HP Officejet 6700

I have an IMAC operating system 10.8.1.  I can't get my HP 6700 to print only black and white.  Even when I choose fast print black and white, it won't print that way.  I can't set up any new print preferences.  Now I am out of yellow ink and can't print anything.  Went and bought brand new black ink, and printer recognizes that black ink is full.
I'm sure just something I am doing wrong.  Can anyone help?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hello again Qwert123,
This may be a combination of a couple of issues, or more to the point, a timing issue. You mentioned being out of Yellow and cannot print. This pulled from the User's Guide, page 74. I hope this helps........
Print when one or more ink cartridges are depleted
The printer can still operate when the black ink cartridge or one or more color ink
cartridges are depleted, but it will print more slowly. Also, the quality of printed documents
    might be affected.
The printer will not be able to print when both the black cartridge and a color cartridge
    are depleted.
    • If the black cartridge is depleted, any black color in printed documents is created using
a combination of the remaining colors. As a result, blacks might not appear to be as
    dark.
    • If a color cartridge is depleted, the printer will print in grayscale using the black
    cartridge.
When possible, replace any depleted ink cartridges. For information about how to install
new ink cartridges, see Replace the ink cartridges.
CAUTION: While ink cartridges are not damaged when left outside of the printer,
the printhead does need to have all cartridges installed at all times after the printer is
set up and in use. Leaving one or more cartridge slots empty for an extended period
may lead to print quality problems and possibly damage the printhead. If you have
recently left a cartridge out of the printer for an extended period, or if you have had a
recent paper jam, and have noticed poor print quality, clean the printhead. For more
    information, see Clean the printhead.

  • Printing black and white when colour is out of ink

I am currently wanting to print a doc in black and white. The YELLOW is out of ink. it will not allow me to print in black and white. I have changed the printer setting to defalt to black and white but it still will not allow me to print cause of the empty YELLOW ink. Is the a way to bypass the colour ink and just print black and white?
    Thank you for your time!

Hello @tanabs , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you are looking into printing with empty cartridges. Due to the design of the printhead, it requires cartridges with some ink in each slot to ensure there is no damage caused to the printhead.
I am including some info on this:
