Printing causes Application Crashes
Hi,
I have a Macbook that I hook up to my Lexmark 5300 series printer via USB to print. The problem is that when I print (PDF or Document) it causes my application to crash. It does not even bring up the print option dialogue box. This includes Adobe Reader (Professional and Version 9), Preview, any Office program. I thought it might be the default PDF printer, so I deleted that. The only printer in the queue is the Lexmark. Is there anything else I should try?
I am able to print from InDesign oddly enough, but it isn't a PDF it's a .indd format.
Thank you!
Updated drivers are a wonder.

Network printing causes application crash
I have a iMac G5 with a HP Deskjet 3930 printer hanging off of it. It's networked with my MacBook Pro via a 802.11b Linksys router. Whenever I attempt to print off of my Macbook Pro, there's a 50% chance that whichever application I'm running will immediately crash. The other 50% of the time, it will spend several seconds thinking, then reluctantly allows me to print. I've seen Safari, Pages, TextEdit, Preview, and TextWrangler all crash this way. There's never an issue with my iMac printing.
This is a really strange issue that really bugs me. It may have something to do with Bonjour or my router but I can't really tell. I always have full signal strength on my network but routinely see the DHCP error that seems to have started with 10.4.7 (both the iMac and the Macbook Pro are running 10.4.7). Any suggestions would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!!
MacBook Pro, iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.7)I am experiencing continuous problems with printing to a WINDOWS networked printer (HP color lasarjet 5550). All MAC apps crash instantly, including those in OFFICE for MAC, even though I can install and see the printer. I have pinged te printer, and even printed a test page from the FIREFOX window that opened after PRINTER SETUP UTILITY/UTILITIES.
I cannot access the network thru FINDER. Yet, in PARALLELS, I can access files on the network and print successfully from all windows apps.
I tried the solution that Pere Phil described. The only difference is I am trying to print thru BUILT IN ETHERNET using IP address. When I tried a test print from FIREFOX (I WAS ON THIS PAGE), it crashed.
Can anyone help?
P.S. I am a newbie to MAC and my workplace is remote and I don't have access to phone support except thru a satellite phone (i.e. excessively expensive). A direct email to me with solutions that have worked will be most appreciated. If this continues I will soon be an ex-Mac newbie. -
HP Printer Software Update 2.10 causes application crashes
Installed the above update two days ago. Since then whenever I try and print from an application e.g Mail or Firefox, with my HP2550n colour laser the application crashes and says "'Application' quit unexpectedly while using HPPrintSettings plugin.'
Have reported directly to Apple but any thoughts/help appreciated.
Hp Photosmart Premium 309a ok?I agree. But as I said in my first post, my HP Photosmart Premium All-in-One c309a continues to work fine. But I have had this kind of issue before. Last time in what I think was HP 2.6 update it was the c309a that lost the ability to scan (the tab disappeared from the print preferences for the printer). At the time I was advised that HP had messed things up. There were pages and pages on the HP support website devoted to trying to sort the issue out. But it took about a year for a further update to surface.
I am away for a few days now but will try your suggestion as well as a re-boot of everything on my return and then see if moving to Mountain Lion sorts it. -
AIR installer causes application crash
Hi all,
I'm developing an AIR 2.0 application and it appears that the AIR installer is causing an application crash. Here's what the person who is experiencing the crash is reporting:
I installed the software per instructions. However, when I attempt to launch Eye-Fi Center the Adobe Air License Agreement window is displayed. I click the "I agree" button and at that point, both the Adobe Air License Agreement window and the Eye-Fi Center app silently quit. No error messages are displayed.
and here's the crash report:

Software Updates causing application crashes
Hello,
I just installed a group of updates including security 2010-4, safari 5, itunes 9.2 and java 7.
Immediately I am having issues with application crashes. I am trying to run inkscape which runs under x11.
Initially it wouldn't even start up. After I repaired permissions and verified the disk and did a couple restarts it will start but crashes as soon as I try to use it (perform a copy and paste for example).
I am desperate to get back to work and I really do appreciate any help.
ThanksSome general advice on updating:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.5.8 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3606
More information on using Software Updater here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.5.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
Now proceed as follows:
4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 4.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party add-on.
Additional tips on software installation here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
• /Library/InputManagers
• ~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later). -
Photoshop cs4 photomerge causes application crash
When I try to use the photomerge tool from photoshop cs4, under file->automate->photomerge, before the box appears which allows you to select the photos to use, an alert box appears saying that photoshop has stopped working, and then the application force closes.
I tried uninstalling, and then using the CC cleaner tool, then reinstalling, but I still have the same problem.
I installed it on a windows 8.1 x86-64 machine with 16GB ram. Both the 32 bit and 64 bit photoshop applications have the same failure.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? I haven't been able to find anyone else who has this issue.I can't find the new thread, and I assume there is no solution yet, so I'm replying here...
I can say that I have an Alienware 18 with switchable graphics - low power, built-in Intel HD-4600, or twin nVidia 770M cards - and when running in the Intel graphics mode, photomerge works every time, but recently (AFAIK) when running the nVidia graphics mode (in single mode at least - I will try dual/SLI later), I can say photomerge crashes every time.
I'm fairly sure my PC used to to do photomerge running in nVidia mode, so it maybe the latest, or recent driver, causing the problem; I'm running drivers contained in "340.52-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql.exe" on windows 8.1 64-bit.
My suggestion therefore is to try older drivers with nVidia cards, at least to get some data about what works/doesn't work and report it to nVidia. Even though the root cause could be in Abode software (nVidia may have tightened up on some issue that conceivably manifests an Abode bug), I'd bet money Abode no longer care about supporting you if, like me, you are running old CS4, paid for at great cost - they will likely just say buy an upgrade to the latest s/w (which may or may not work)!

Printing causes application to freeze
When I try to print from my Macbook the application I am trying to print from freezes and I have to "Force Quit" it to get the Macbook to respond.(I have previously had the Macbook printing via my desktop Mac and wifi network)
The System Profiler shows no printers in the printer area.
Any ideas would be appreciated.DaddyPayCheck,
Thanks for the reply.
I am using an Epsom Stylus Printer through my desktop iMac. All applications freeze when I try to print from them (even emails).
The "System Profiler" under Printers shows no printers found, although I have reinstalled the software a couple of times.
It has worked in the past but I think may have started with this problem after updating NeoOffice.
Cheers.

All things related to printing causing applications to freeze
I would love to uninstall my printer and reinstall it, however when I try to access Print & Fax from System Preferences, it locks up and I have to Force Quit. When trying to print from any application, the application freezes and I have to Force Quit. Help!
Next on the list is to do an Archive & Install, saving user and network settings. See http://www.apple.com/support/leopard/install/ for details.

OS X 10.10.1 update causes application crashes
Since installing OS X 10.10.1 earlier today some of my applications/utilities will not open So far it's: Audi Midi, Disk Utility and System Report from "about this Mac". And that's just the ones I've tried. I went to Time Machine, but it does't allow me to reinstall the previous version. I might try re-booting from backup, but 10.10.1 had already backed itself up to Time Machine, so I'll probably not get the original version. Any suggestions please?
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

BUG: Gallery 'Edit Together' causes application crash.
When I try to edit an item in the gallery widget, a crash dialog appears:
I am running the ABSOLUTE latest Muse CC update.
Please fix! I cannot continue my work until this is fixed!
I am running Win8.1 64Hmm... never seen that error before. I expect we'll need to take a look at the file to understand what's going on. Please send us the .muse file at [email protected] along with a link to this thread and pointers to the page and slideshow that are triggering the error. If the file is larger than 20Mb you can use a service like Adobe SendNow, Dropbox, WeTransfer, etc. (If you use a service, please include your return e-mail address in the body of the message, since not all services include it in the sharing invite they send.) Thanks.

Java print caused JVM crash on Vista platform with JDK 1.5.0_14
Platform: JDK 1.5.0_14 + Vista
The issue didn't exit in windows XP or 2003. It's only Vista specific.
I found the bugs (6358747/6574633 and 6395356) in SUN’s official site. SUN developer only fixed the bug 6358747/6574633 for XP (fixed in JDK 1.5.0_11 and 1.6) and marked the bug 6395356 for Vista as duplicate, that is, the bug for Vista was not fixed at that time. In the meanwhile I ran the code posted in the bug report (6358747/6574633) with JDK 1.5.0_14 on vista. The issue still occurred. That means, 6395356 was not actually a duplicate of 6358747/6574633.
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6358747 or http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6574633 - For XP
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6395356 - For Vista
Currently I knew the bug for vista has been fixed in higher JDK version (1.5.0_18 or above). But our application is based on 1.5.0_14 and we didn't solve the issue by upgrading the JDK version because some other reasons. So I would like to know if there is a workaround?
In addition, the bug for XP has a workaround posted in the bug report link. But I didn't find the similar settings for Vista. Anyone could help me?
*[Workaround for XP]*
Control Panel->Regional and Language Options->Lanuages Tab-> Pressed "Details..."
to bring up the "Text Services and Input Languages" dialog and there select
the "Advanced" tab and CLEAR the option to
"Extend support of advanced text services to all programs".
Edited by: 815150 on 2010-11-23 下午11:34The only solution for a bug is to install a version in which it is fixed. In this case I would highly recommend making the effort to upgrade to Java 6, as Java 5 is end of life already and with good reason: its ancient technology. What are you going to do otherwise? Keep using Java 5 until you phase out your software? The problems are only going to grow as time passes and will ultimately cost you a lot more money than it will do right now to make the upgrade efforts.

Application crashes when printing
hi, whenever i try to print, the application crashes. this is the same regardless of which application im using,(opera, acrobat reader, neo office, etc.)
im using a lexmark z1380 printer and an iMac with 10.5.6.
any help greatly appreciated!
danI bumped into at least a partial answer trying to figure this out. It seems like the System/Library/Frameworks directories may have been corrupted. I recently installed the 2009-001 Security update (too soon to tell if that was the culprit). What I did to fix the printing problem was to Archive a copy of the System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework directory from my wife's MAC. I made an acrhive of the same directory from my Powerbook. I then deleted that directory. I copied the archive of my wife's MAC to my Deskptop and unzipped it. Then I MOVED - not Copied (Copy will not work) that entire directory from the Deskptop to the System/Library/Frameworks directory. This not only solved my problem with the Printing Crashing - it also solved the problem of my MAC not responding to either the Shutdown or Restart Options. Something definitely corrupted this directory structure. Note: You will need to supply the Authentication Password when you Move the Directory. Hope this helps.

Printing causes Office 2013 applications to crash
We’ve a fresh installed Windows 8 Pro and Office 2013. Printing works correctly in every application but Office 2013.
Word, Excel, Outlook … printing causes the application to crash.
Any idea if this is a known issue?
Regards.
Peter
Peter Van Keymeulen, IT Infrastructure Solution Architect, www.edeconsulting.beThis is the answer that fixes the problem every time, based on my experience and that of others. It works for both the 32 & 64-bit versions of Windows (I'm one of those odd ducks who runs 32-bit Windows 8.1 Professional and it worked perfectly for me).
The problem is not Windows, either 7 or 8, it's Office 2013 and a variety of unique HP LaserJet printers. By the way, the glitch occurs whether you use networked printing or a USB cable; I discovered that early-on when I
was trying to troubleshoot the issue. Also (and it should go without saying), always reboot the computer after you make the change to the driver. Thanks to Shane, who apparently was the first one to discover the solution over a year ago, right
after Office 2013 came out and the problem manifested itself.
After lots of testing I have found a setting that has fixed all my HP CP5520 and HP M4555 printers that were crashing when printing from Office 365's 2013 pro plus.
It's the driver setting in Device settings -> Installable options -> Printer Status notification, this needs to be disabled.
I hope this also fixes other peoples problems.

All Applications crash when I try to print (2)
I have and epson EPL-6200L b/w laser printer and an epson 1270. the 1270 s fine. the 6200 crashes EVERY application, from text edit to adobe inDesign. In text edit, I can open the 'page setup' dialog box and edit, but clicking the 'print' button causes a crash (if I change the default printer to the 1270, it will open the dialogue box, but crash when I select the 6200L). The message I get is "the problem may have been caused by the EPSONPagePDE plug-in" (verbatim). In console, it shows a bus error.
18/11/2008 17:19:47 com.apple.launchd122 (0x0-0x39039.com.apple.TextEdit402) Exited abnormally: Bus error
I have deleted the epson folder; reinstalled the driver from a fresh download;
reset the printing system in the print & fax preferences.
I have also typed the following in the terminal window (based on another post):
rm -rf ~/.lpoptions ~/.cups
…and this:
1. Go to Terminal
2. Test the permissions on your temp folder by typing:
touch $TMPDIR/foo
3. It will say 'permission denied'. (it didn't say this for me)
4. Change the permissions on your temp folder by typing:
sudo chmod 775 $TMPDIR
You will need to enter your password.
None of this has made a difference. Anyone have a suggestion? You could try removing the EpsonPagePDE plugin from /Library/Printers/EPSON/LaserPrinter/GD2/PDE/ or renaming it. You may lose some functionality, but it shouldn't crash.
This crash could be because of missing string or something similar, so reinstalling the driver wouldn't help unless there is an update that contains a fix.
If after trying this you are still crashing, please post the entire crash log. -
Printing causes macpro to crash/restart
printing causes macpro to crash/restart
OK, I understand borderless printing is not supported on plain paper, but I don't think a hard crash is an acceptable result.
I can live with the minimize margins turned on but that opens up another documented bug where the last line to line and a half are not printed on the last sheet in a print set, If you are only printing one sheet at a time than every sheet will be missing this print. Has HP come up with or even looked into why this is happening?
Thanks,
Don
