Printing "child" names from Address Book on address labels

When I put selected "child" names on Address Books entries and try to print address labels including the kid's names, they don't appear. Example: I add "Jim" as a child name to an Address Book entry for Mike Jones. I try to print the Address Label: Mike Jones and Jim. Jim will not print. "JI" will print. "Jimm" will print. Anybody else have this problem? What's going on?

From another thread:
If you have a spouse or child listed on contact card it will print them all on the mailing label IF the first name of each person is unique to your entire address book. For example, if the contact is John Brown and the spouse is listed as Susan Brown and the child is listed as Chester Brown, the expectation is that the label would print as:
John, Susan and Chester Brown
This assumes that there are no other contacts in your address book with the first name of Susan or Chester. However, if, for example, you have another person in your contact list named Susan (the last name could be anything), Address Book will print:
John and Chester Brown
This is because Address Book looks at all the first names in your contact list and if it sees a first name that is also listed in one of the spouse or child fields then it looks to see if the the other contact shares the same address as the contact you are trying to print. If the address is the same, then it prints properly on the label. If not, then it doesn't print on the label. So if you have two Susans - Susan Anderson and Susan Brown - Address book looks at the address on each card and determines that Susan Brown has the same address as the contact you are trying to print (John Brown) and therefore prints her name on the label.
So, to make a long story short, if you want consistent and predictable results when printing your labels you should assign a unique card to each person that you want to appear on the label and make sure that the individual cards have the same address listed on each. So, in the above example, there would be a card for John Brown, a card for Susan Brown, and a card for Chester Brown. On John Brown's card, Susan Brown would be listed as spouse and Chester Brown would be listed as child. Print John Brown's card and you should get:
John, Susan and Chester Brown
Although this makes logical sense, it's not incredibly intuitive and not very well documented by Apple. I was hoping they would enhance Address Book in Leopard since this seems like a feature that a lot of people would use around this time of year. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case this time around.

  • Using Address Book for mailing labels

I know how to use the address book for mailing labels, but when I went to print I had children's names appear on the labels. Is there a way to request souces, but not children. In other words can you select specific information to appear on the labels. Or do you have to go into address book and delete the kids names. Any advice would be great.

There are several 3rd-party applications which will print mailing labels from your address book data and give you greater control of what is printed.
Roll Call Directory and Imprint have both been mentioned.
I don't know how they handle linked cards, so if you try either you might let us know.

  • Why Address Book email addresses without first&last name stacked up under random names when moved to Lion?

Often in Snow Leopard I would add an email address to my address book wihtout filling in the name fields. For example, Iif I got an email from [email protected], I would "add to address book but never fill out the card completely with the first and last names. The card showed with just an email address. Just left it as the email address. I never had any problems doing this and it always showed up as a single email address on a single card. Oh woe is me! When I moved to Lion I now have multiple unrelated email addresses under some of these "email only" cards. These seem to be the folks who were cards as an email address w/o first and last name fields. Not only that, I have multiples of the "email only cards" and each one has a different set of mutliple "email only" addresses under it. But, at least one of the "email only cards" just has the desired email w no other info. Can I fix this other than manually?
I now have a disaster of an Address book.

ok, I've spent some time doing various scenarios.
I have managed to replicate one scenario which does as you say.
If my contact in the address book:
With name details as Peter Foo
    email address: [email protected]
where there is an inserted space before the name peter, of course this is not instantly noticeable, but it is as if you hit the space bar just before typing the email address.
Then when I use the Contacts Sidebar in a Write message, it will add the email address like this:
    Peter Foo <" peter"@somewhere.com>
    which of course in invalid.
but in the address book, if highlight the contact, in the section below the email address in blue -if I click this to send an email the email address is printed exacly with the space and it will send as if nothing is wrong.
So i'm asking you to check those email addresses which insert incorrectly via the Contacts sidebar. They only do this for me if there is a hidden inserted space at the start of the email address.

  • Address book and dymo label writer

    Hi there,
I've come across the following problem while trying to print labels from my Dymo. With the help of a tip from 'the divining ape' somewhere on the discussions forum I am able to print to my Dymo printer with the help of some custom shipping label settings.
However I can't seem to print the organization name and the persons name. It will only print the top line and the address field below.
So I get or the persons name and the address or the company name and the address. This is not very practical because often one needs the both on an address label.
And since I don't like working with the Dymo software (no searchfunction, and no company recognistion) I would really like to work only with Address book.
Has anyone got a solution or work-around for this?
Or is there a dymo plugin somewhere?

    Dear Mulder:
I have a Dymo Label Writer Twin Turbo, with Dymo 30252 labels loaded on the left and 30915 (stamps) loaded on the right. I would like to use address book to print mailing labels on the 30252 and can't seem to configure it correctly (read here I am not pleased with the software from Dymo).
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

  • Address Book multiple addresses, some blank?

Since switching to iCloud, I discovered I had triplicate email addresses for every single contact. A number of contacts retained a name, but all other contact was missing? Aside from deleting two of every three contacts, is there anything I can do to recover my lost contact info?

Thank you, V.K. The good news is that the group is large and the email addresses are hidden in the BCC field so Jane won't know that I have two entries for her in my address book. (And yes, I know I could call them both "Jane Doe" but at some point I would probably shoot myself in the foot by deleting the duplicate without realizing why it's there.)
I was surprised that whoever coded Address Book and/or Mail didn't use the usual convention of being able to select multiple entries in a list. This would be a nice enhancement for a future release; it's really not that unusual for someone to request that mail be routinely sent to both a home and work email address.

  • Address Book - email address sorting

My own entry in my address book has 11 email addresses (I added most of them after they were automatically added to separate entries). The one that appears on the top is the one I want to appear on the bottom. How do I tell Address Book to keep them in a particular order?

I've never used the TrueSwitch software, but I've never had to. You can export your contacts from Outlook, Outlook Express, etc. into a .csv file and import them directly to your verizon.net account. If you log into your verizon.net account and go to your contacts list there's an Import Contacts button.
If you need any assistance with that process let me know, I can try to provide a step-by-step for your client.
As for sorting by name, this functionality does not appear to be available in the "Basic Interface" of Verizon's webmail. Switching to the "Rich Interface" causes the name to be displayed in a Last, First format and sorting by name is an option.
    Hope this helps!

  • Address Book-Same Address Again and Again

I am trying to figure out how to NOT to retype the address for several contacts at the same company address. Not finding any help yet in address book help.
    Any suggestions?
    TIA

If the additional contacts do not yet exist, copy the one that does and paste to make duplicates, then change the personal details.
If they do already exist, there is no shortcut that I know of to do it. You could copy the mailing label from one and paste it in another, but everything will go into the first address field. If there were a lot to do you could write a little applescript for it. Unless you are planning to produce address abels at some stage, why bother? Just note the company name.

  • Mail Addresses and Address book Email Addresses

    hi all,
i wasnt sure how to search this problem, so i thought just make a new post. do apolisge if this has already been answered somewhere.
i wanted to know are the addresses in mail directly linked to addresses from Address book. because the two applications seem to be doing a few wierd things.
    1) when i type a name, it begins to come up. but then it comes up with a surname. and when i look in address book its there also. so i delete it but still find that the surname is still there.
    2) in mail - the surname gets filled in somehow. dont know where it gets the information.
is there any way to reset the addresses that are saved in mail. and make sure it only gets the names in address book.
note: i also sync the address book with my Nokia N70.
any suggestions or help will be appericated.

  • Address Book - Return Address & Mailing Labels

In trying to wean myself away from using Appleworks, decided to give AB a try for labels. Had good success in doing routine labels for lists/groups of recipients, but no luck so far in trying to do return address labels or any other type which features multiple copies (an entire sheet, say) of the same address information.
I looked through Help already and ran several searches in these fora. Is it even possible to do this? I came up with a sort of kludgy approach of just making multiple copies of the same card in a group but wasn't able to do that either.
    TIA for any insights.

To update: Seems impossible in normal means to make multiple copies of a single AB entry, meaning you really can't do things like return address labels (among other examples).
I don't see this as a huge indictment of either Address Book or of Pages, and it remains almost ridiculously easy to do in Appleworks and, with a bit more tedium involved, in Word. In fact, I just went ahead and completed the project in AW while continuing to play with Address Book, during which I did stumble into at least one kludge approach which works just fine.
    Steps:
    1. Drag the selected v-card to the Desktop
    2. Copy/Duplicate it enough times to wind up with the number of records that you need, which is often going to be the number of labels per sheet.
    3. Create a Group for the labels, then drag all of the cards from Step #2 into it. You'll have to step through the process of using all of the other copies; left to its own devices AB will detect that they're all identical and will only use one of them.
Now print the group, using the print dialogue boxes to set things up for the type cards that you're using.
This is neither faster nor necessarily better than AW or Word, but it does work. It strikes me as something that AB should be able to do easier than this, though, and I've submitted Feedback to Apple about this. Perhaps if others would do the same we'd see this added in, eventually.

  • HT4489 How can I synchronize contacts between Apple Address Book/iPhone address book and Outlook (I'm on Mac OX10.7.4 and using Office 2011)?

I appear to have done what I should to move to iCloud on my Mac, MacbookAir, iPhone and iPad.  Using Outlook 2011 on the iMac and unable to sync contacts between Outlook and my Apple Address Book and iPhone over the cloud.  I gather lots of people have the same problem but some appear to have solved it... any ideas?
Also, in some sync, I managed to duplicate the entries on the Address Book on my Mac, whereas the iCloud Address Book is ok.  How can I replace the Address Book on my computer with the one on iCloud?
    Thank You for any help!

Hi Lucy, I had the same problem with Outlook data sync. Once you've enabled iCloud all your contacts are moved to iCloud and are no longer stored on Mac, that's why Outlook cannot reach them - there is simply nothing to reach as data physically stored in cloud.
I use SyncMate to solve this problem. This app allows connecting and syncing numerous devices and accounts with your Mac and they have recently added iCloud into this list (here the page where they describe sync with iCloud http://www.sync-mac.com/cloud-sync.html ).
This is how I established sync of my Outlook data with iCloud via this app.
    1. SyncMate syncs only that data which is located on your Mac so you will need to move your contacts back to Address Book on mac from iCloud and disable iCloud for contacts (in order they were stored on Mac, not in iCloud).
    2. You install SyncMate and add iCloud as a new connection (depending on data you want to sync you need to choose "Cloud contacts" or "Cloud calendars" connection in SyncMate wizard and log into your iCloud via SyncMate). Once you've done this, you can sync data on Mac with iCloud via SyncMate.
    3. I may assume that automatic sync option is enabled in Outlook preferences (as previously your contacts on Mac were synced with Outlook). If no - please, enable it (got to Outlook preferences).
    4. Once all this done, data will be automatically synced betwen Outlook and iCloud (latter via SyncMate). The trick of SyncMate is that data is physically located on your Mac (thus ensuring it will be synced with other devices and accounts SyncMate supports, as I said before, SyncMate works with data which is located on Mac), but you still can have it in iCloud (sync will be performed via SyncMate, no need to enable iCloud itself).
    5. And of course, you will be able to sync your iPhone contacts with your Mac (SyncMate supports sync with iPhones also). These contacts will be also synced to Outlook.

  • Address book email addresses don't get removed

When I write a new email, old, deleted email addresses for people still appear as addressee options. Why are they still listed when they have been deleted from the Address Book?

They are still listed in previous recipients if you have ever sent an email to that address.
Mail > Menubar > Window > Previous recipients.
    Remove them from there.
    Have fun

  • Importing new Address Book into Address Book but keeping it separate.

I have an existing Address Book on my MacBook Pro and would like to import my office Address Book - BUT keep it as a separate group.  The office Address Book has over 1,000 names so it is a lot of work to import it and then, one by one, find, separate and add the names to a New Group.  Is there a way to import the new Address Book directly into its own Group?
    Both Address Books are Apple.
I understand that the new names will be a part of my existing Address Book when I am in the ALL Group.

Well you are correct - you cannot import into .Mac mail.
What you can do is import your .csv file into Address Book on a Mac and then Sync that Address Book with your .Mac information.
In Address Book the Import function is under the File menu.
To Sync use the .Mac preference pane in System Preferences.

    Steve
