Printing configuration can be a nightmare

I thought many here would be interested in reading this post by Grant Taylor[1] regarding the difficulty that one can encounter in configuring CUPS. He describes some of the reasons printing systems can be so troublesome and gives Apple plaudits for their GUI configuration tools.
[1]Grant Taylor is the founder of the Linux Printing website and original author of Foomatic, a print driver configuration tool.

An agent can only be assigned to one team; however, their team assignment has no impact on how the Resource Groups or Skills and CSQs function. The team is used primarily to group agents and CSQs together for supervisors when using CSD. Other less common purposes are to group what agents can chat with one another using the intra-team chat button in CAD and the QM/WFO products.
While an agent cannot be associated to more than one team a person can be given supervisor rights to see more than one team. This would allow supervisors who need to support/backup their peers to see other groups.

  • How to Sent Printer Configurations while Printing in SMARTFORMS for PO?

    Hi,
I took PO Print Out on LIPI Dot Matrix Printer before 10 days. At that time our Basis Consultant kept Some Configurations for that Printer. After some one changed the Configuration Settings of that Printer. Now we took a print but it is printing differently.
Is it possible to send printer Configurations while calling PO smartforms in my driver Program so that while taking PO Print Out my Print Out Specific Configurations will set automatically if antbody can change the printer Configurations.
can anyone suggest how to pass printer configuration through smartform or driver program .

  • How to avoid print configuration screen

    Hi everybody,
I'm executing a program which has to print two smartforms, one followed by the other, but I don't want the printing configuration screen before printing each one, I want it only to appear in the first one and then inherit printing parameters in the next smartform and avoid the screen.
How can I do this? I think that is by using output_options parameter but I don't know exactly how.
    Many thanks,
    Cristina.

    hi,
I understand that you have your own program that triggers both Smartforms, one after the other, right?
    Try this:
In your program trigger the first smartform (and have the print config screen popup)
WITHIN that smartform you trigger the second Smartform and suppress the the config screen.
Since the output options are know at this point you can pass them to the second smartform.
    I hope it helps,

New info : Hi Oracle Support,
I found that the ORARRP works fine and submits report to the Printer if the

But if the same printer is defined through I.P address directly as a local

Does it give us any clue to solve this issue ?.

    23-MAY-02 13:32:25 GMT
    Hi,
My understanding is that you where trying to print using ORARRP utility on the web
Since you are trying on an muti-tiered server(that is web is 3-tier)
by default this report will be printed out to the default printer assigned to
the application server machine , NOT to the client machines default
    printer.
    For example,
Machine 1 - the application server machine
Machine 2 - the client machine
Machine 2 submits a request to run a report to the multi-tier server with
DESTYPE set to PRINTER; DESNAME is left blank.
Printing will be on the default printer of Machine 1(Application server)
and not on Machine 2(Client PC)
If I am wrong inmy understanding, please eloborate

New info : A Big No. We are running the 10.7 version of Oracle applications and
there is no middle tier per se.
All we have done is to define a new printer called "LOCAL_PRINTER" and when
users select this printer the initiaization string which the Print command
sends to the printer before sending the file gets added to the output file and
the output file is stored in a directory which is accessible through a web
    server.
Users invoke the browser and point to the website where the output files are
avaiable. and then click on their request ids. Since the extension of the file
is .rrpt the ORARRP utility brings the Printer dialog where we have select the
    printer.
This setup was working sucessfully till so far. ( Past 1 year).
Now it suddenly didn't work for a user's printer which was connected to her PC.
Since I had windows 2000 on my laptop and I tried the same and found that the I
select a PC which is defined through I.P Address then it is not working. But
if I select the same printer defined through Novell Netware it is working.
Please let me know if you are getting the picture. if not may be we can do a
webex session or something like that.

    Hi Radhakrishnan,
ORARRP doesn't actually do any printing itself. Via COM/Active-X, it calls the appropriate program that corresponds to the type of output, and then this program does the actual printing. For PDF, it calls Acrobat Reader to print the document. Acrobat Reader displays the printer dialog to let you choose which printer to use, and then when you click OK, Acrobat Reader prints the document and sends it to the printer.
I expect that you'll find that when you use Acrobat Reader yourself on this machine it has exactly the same problems with this particular printer configuration. If so, you'll need to contact Adobe for further assistance.

    Stewart

After upgrading to CS5, printing PDFs has become a nightmare!
    For example,
    1. It would never finish printing the file, just the first so many pages. So...
    2. I updated the driver, and then I could print one copy only without problems. But...
    3. I can never print more than one copy of a PDF without collate mis-sequence problems. It just does not print one whole copy before printing the next copy. And it goes back and forth printing some of the first copy, then the second, then a few pages from the first, etc. Eventually it all prints, but they are mixed up sequentially. But some pages are in order.  And...
    4. It prints soooo slow compared to before.

But now, since I upgraded to a Master Suite of CS5, at first it would never print the whole file, even once. And when I upgraded to the Universal Print Driver, and or any other drivers, it will only print one copy of a PDF without mis-sequencing the printed pages, and it is so slow. It is worthless.

P.S. I think I need to try to call Ricoh or something, but will that work? Sigh!
Yeah, this sounds like a general print driver problem with the newer versions of the Adobe products, not just Acrobat or ID. Ricoh may or may not have an updated driver, but theyare definitely the ones to ask.
You haven't told us the OS... Some Mac users have had good luck, I think, using the CUPS drivers with problem printers when the manufacturer doesn't have a solution, but I'm a Windows guy, so don't do much with Mac printing.

In general use a property node with nothing attached to it in LabVIEW with the property Printing >> Default Printer or Printing >> Avalaible Printers to return the printers configured with Windows. One of these string items can be wired into the printer input of the report generation Print Report VI to select a printer.
In regards to the Microsoft Common Dialog 6.0 ActiveX controls, the printer selection from the dialog seems to be determined by the hDC output, which stands for hardware device context. If you modify the demo posted above to send in the appropriate flag value, either an informational or a direct hardware device context handle is returned in the ICommon property hDC. Input the flag value 512 to the ICommonDialog property Flags to return an hardware device context handle from the hDC property, or 1024 to return an informational device context.
More information about how to extract any meaningful information from this I32 number can doubtlessly be found at msdn.com, but I'm not sure personally how to do it. Specifically, here are a few posts to start your search at:

  • Retrieving detailed printer configuration

Hi, I have installed on my macbook a printer physically connected to a linux machine and shared over samba. I have understood how to enter all the configuration parameters (IP address, user, etc), but I cannot find any way to retrieve this information if I want to change it.
For example if I enter a wrong IP address and I want later to change it, I found no other way but removing the printer from the list and adding a new one. Any help is appreciated.
Another question: is there any way to access printer configuration apart from the graphical interface? (for example like in linux where it is always possible to manually edit configuration files)
    Thanks

You can make IP address changes using the CUPS web

    http://localhost:631
(you can probably use the command line lpadmin, too,
just like in linux, but I don't use that.)
Very cool information to have. Do you happen to know where I would find the username and password needed in order to configure a printer?

    Hi SCheyne,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having some issues when attempting to print from your computer.
I do have a few steps that we can take to troubleshoot this issue.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
I have also found a document that deals with the 'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Will Not Print: Windows Vista.
If you are still having issues or if you have any additional questions, please feel free to write me back.
    Cheers,
