Printing custom size paper

I'm trying to print (via mailmerge from MS Word) name badge stock that is 4" wide and 14" long.  When I try to print a file of 12 sheets, the printer takes about a minute between sheets.   I've tried to find out why it won't print consecutively and the closest relevant info I've found is that there is some default in the printer causing it to go through some type of recycle.   I've entered the custom paper size in the Word paper settings, but this does not solve the problem. I had an older HP laserprinter that worked find cranking out these quickly, but it died.   Any ideas how to solve this?

Hi,
Unfortunately the driver that comes with the Officejet 8600 does not have the customer option. Try the workaround I listed below. This is how I was able to print on custom size media on my Officejet 8600. This is not a supported workaround but I do know that it works at least for my unit.
Download the Photosmart C310a software package using the link below
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=us&lc=en&product=4231205
Double click the downloaded file and follow the onscreen instructions until you see the window where it is asking you how you want to connect your printer to the computer
Select  “Direct Connection using USB” and then Click Next
Place a checkmark on the option “If you were unable to connect…” and then click Next. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the install.
Set your printer drivers to use the C310a driver by following the steps below
Click Start (or Windows Orb) and then Click Control Panel
Click Devices and Printers and then right click on your printer’s  icon
Click on Printer Properties and then Click on the Advanced tab
On the drop down menu for Driver,  select the Photosmart C310a from the list
Click Apply and then Ok.
 Print from your software application
Open the document or photo you would like to print
Click File and then Print (these steps depends on the software you are using)
Click Properties, Click the Features tab, Click the drop down box for Paper size and then Click custom
Enter the dimensions of the media you would like to use. Enter a name for this custom media and then click the Save button. Click OK to continue
Continue to print the photo or document

  • Can't seem to print custom size paper

I'm trying to print addresses on a 4 Bar envelope (3 5/8 x 5 1/8) on an OfficeJet Pro 8000 wireless, from a Mac.  I read all the posts here and nothing seems to work for me.  I keep getting errors like:
Paper Size Error: The paper size selected in the printer driver software does not match the paper size in the printer IN tray.
    PLEASE HELP!!!!

Since I don't have this printer and can't get to the screens you are using, I thought I would pass on to you a couple of things that might work.  If not, I'll try again.
Solution one: Restart your computerFollow these steps to restart your computer.
Click Start, and then click Shut down .
Click Restart to restart the computer.
If you see a message that HP Software installation is running , restart the computer by pressing the power button on the computer to turn it off and then back on.
Solution two: Reset your printerFollow these steps to reset the printer. A power reset drains the power from the printer and returns it to the same settings after restarting. A power reset is a common troubleshooting step, and can be performed for conditions similar to an installation stall.
If the printer is turned off, press the Power button to turn on the printer. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before continuing.
With the printer turned on , disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE:HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
If the printer does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
NOTE:The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed
I hope this helps.  Please keep in touch so I can research more fixes if this doesn't work.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g can not define a custom size paper.

HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g can not define a custom size paper.  I would like to have a custom size to work with a card making program.

    Can you help me out?
I have an HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a
When I try to print to a custom print size (2.75" x 6" in my case), I get the same error everyone else is reporting: "Paper detected does not match paper size or type selected. Make sure the paper size or type is correct to continue the job."
I am currently trying to print using Microsoft Word for Mac 2011 version 14.4.5, but I have the same problem with printing from Adobe Reader 9.8.5 or Preview 8.0.
    I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10.
My printer's firmware is "up to date" as of 28-Aug-2014.
    This is what I did:
    1. Open System Preferences from the Apple menu.
    2. Click on the Printers & Scanners icon.
    3. Click on the + sign under the list of printers to add a printer
    4. Click on IP
    5. Enter my IP address in the Address field (verified as "valid and complete host name or address")
    6. Ignore Protocol field (default is Line Printer Daemon - LPD)
    7. Ignore Queue field (default is blank for default queue)
    8. Ignore Name field (default is IP address)
    9. Ignore Location field (default is blank)
    10. Under the Use dropdown menu, I select "Select Software"
    11. HP Deskjet 9800 is not an option.
I searched for 9800, but there is no HP printer with that number in the options.
I tried selecting "HP DeskJet 980C - Gutenprint v5.2.3" to see if that would work, but I received the same error message as above. I tried selecting other random HP printers, but so far I've had no luck.
I've been googling about for a way to manually add a printer driver to this "Select Software" list, but I've found nothing (apparently, no one else wants to do this). I did not find a driver download for the HP DeskJet 9800 for OS X Yosemite 10.10 on the Drivers & Software section of the hp.com website.
Additional details on settings for Microsoft Word for Mac 2011 version 14.4.5:
Selected File > Page Setup from menu
Under the Paper Size drop down menu, I selected manage custom size.
    - Click + to add a paper size
    - Enter "2.75" in width and "6 in" height in the paper size fields.
    - Enter "0 in" as the User Defined Non-Printable Area for top, left, right and bottom.
    - Double-clicked Untiled in the custom size list and rename the size as Receipt
    - Click OK to return to the Page Setup dialog box
    Under Settings: Page Attributes:
    - Format for "HP Officejet Pro 8600"
    - Paper size: Receipt
    - Orientation: "tall/portrait"
    - Scale: 100%
    - Click OK
Select Format > Document and set all page margins to 0.25"
    Thank you.

  • Hp c4280 photo-smart added to new hp pavilion dv7 notebook. printing custom sized paper won't center

I recently bought an HP Pavilion dv7 notebook and added my HP C4280 printer. It prints normal things fine, but when I try to print with custom size paper (for instance, 5" by 10" notecards) and want my information centered in the middle of the page, the alignment prints it in the middle of an 8.5" by 11," way off center. I've read help on word and hp and can't find an answer. The only difference is an updated version of word.
I did download the patch and had no luck with that. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Hi - It definitely sounds like the SW or printer driver isn't recognizing the paper size.  First thing I would do is make sure that the paper size in both the printer driver and in Word match.  For the printer driver, go into File, Print and you should see an option for Printing Options or Printing Properties.  Click there and verify that you've got the paper size set correctly.  In Word (not sure which version you're using) 2010, go into Page Layout and choose Size to make sure it matches the printer driver.  Try printing again.
I'm assuming you're using the printer driver that came with the printer?  If not, you can download the latest Win7 driver from here.  Once downloaded, install it and follow the steps above.
    Hope that helps.

  • I cant print custom sizes in photoshop CS3. Please help

I am on my Imac G4 using mac os x 10.4.11. I know that it is not my printer that is the problem. I have been told that I should upgrade to 10.5.x, I have also purchased a new CS3 because I dont have the original copy so I cant reinstall it. The trouble that I am having is that when I try to print custom sizes, the printer defaults back to 8.5x11. Only in photoshop does it do this. Has anyone else had this problem or know what I can do to fix it? I would really appreciate it. Thank you for your time. I will check back until this is resolved.

    Russell,
Because your screen shots (they look like you actually shot them with a camera! ) don't show the whole Print Preview panel, I'm not sure at what stage you're losing the paper size, but it's pretty clear that by the time you invoke the printer driver, it's royally screwed up.
    At this point I would:
    • delete the printer from your printer list (in the Printer Setup Utility),
    • re-install a fresh copy of the latest printer driver from the Epson site,
    • then add the printer back in.
This is the kind of consistency you should be seeing (Command Click on each thumbnail to open the full-size image in a new web browser tab) [NOTE: this is CS4 running in Tiger 10.4.11):

  • Printing custom size prints

I am having trouble printing custom size photos on regular size paper. I use the custom scale setting in the layout dialog box. However, the result does not match the requested size in the preview window and it does not print the requested size. For example I would like to scale a photo to print 4x10 on a 8/12X11 sheet of paper. When I custom scale to 4x10 the result is 4 high but 7.5 wide. Any help would be appreciated? I'm printing on an HP 9180.

Have you cropped the photo to your desired 4x10 aspect ratio? If you do that, then the only printing part of the photo is that portion you've chosen in your crop. Then in the print dialog, you can tell it to print to 8.5x11 and set the margins there to .5 inch in order for it to scale to 10". Or have you done all this already?

  • Printing custom size

When I try to print a custom size paper in PSE11, I do not get a window to enter the custom size.

I found this is working fine with  me. I will suggest you to reset the the setting/preferences of PSE and then retry the same.

  • Printing custom size envelopes under Yosemite

Upgraded to Yosemite on MacPro.  HP8600 no longer prints custom size envelopes.  Seems like printer keeps expecting 11 inch long paper size even though the envelope is specified as 5.750 height.  Never had a problem before OS upgrade.  Need to print envelopes for Christmas cards.

    Hey @25172 ,
Thank you for taking the time to post on the HP Forums today! Hope you enjoy the experience.
I understand you are having issues when trying to print an envelope but the printer is trying to print on an 11' piece of paper. You used to be able to change the settings and it would work, now it simply isn't following your instruction.
Have you done all the apple updates?
Did you uninstall and reinstall the software for the printer since the update in OS?
Are you experiencing any other issues when it comes to setting related tools with the printer software on 10.10?
Look forward to hearing back from you! Have a great day.

I've done a bit of a work around that seems to be working. I've put the page set up as A4 and then clicked on the printer utility custom settings and then unticked detect paper width, so I can put through the paper I want just got to tweak the x and y to get it right, its not the best but sitting here for four hours trying to figure it out, it will have to do for now. Thanks Jacob for your help, no doubt I'll be back in the morning, I'm burnt out now!

  • Printing on Custom size paper

I just purchased a HP Photosmart 7515 and I am trying to print on a paper 5 x 6.5 inches. I am doing this document in Word and I have the page set up in word correctly, but when I go to print the printer acts as if I have paper that is letter size (8.5 x 11in). When I go into the printer's properties and try to choose the paper size I get a drop down menu of several sizes, but not an option to do a custom size. Is it even possible to print on a custom sized paper or do I need to return the printer? If you know how to do it please let me know. Thank you.

    Hi,
I afraid the printer does not support using a custom paper sizes.
An alternative driver as the C310 is likely to fail as a such is not supported by the firmware.
You may find the printer specification below, as you may see any custom media size paper is not listed as supported within the Paper-handling specifications, I afraid a such is not supported for your printer:
